Re: Droid 3 Update Soak Begins TODAY!
Just got an e-mail from MFN (Motorola Feedback Network) indicating that the Droid 3 Soak Test will be starting today. With the subject line stating "Motorola Feedback Network - Droid 3 test starting", the e-mail said "Thanks for signing up for the Droid 3 software test. The software will begin to be pushed out later this afternoon; however, it may take several hours for all targeted devices to receive the update."
So, keep an eye out everyone!
More info please, is it ICS ?

Are you part of the SOAK test?
Latest "official" version is 5.6.890 which you would need to be on to get this pushed to you.

will do.
bout time
Looking at the file the build.prop signature matches the .906 leak.
Installing now..
Yep...."The Installation was successful. Your phone has been upgraded to xxxx.906.en"
Isn't this a confidential test? Aren't you supposed to not publicize that you are part of the test? I remember when I received the email a few weeks ago promoting this the confidentiality was mentioned quite clearly.
I think these updates are to prep the system for ics, like what the razrs and d4 got the past weeks. They had this update months ago but probably added ics prep and it finally passed verizons testing now.

I believe there will be one more, it will update any bloatware we have on the phone, if we don't have any it will add it. This will be in about 6 months.
My question is... the 906 leak was a test build. Is the 906 official any different?

How was the 906 leak a test build. It has release keys. Just like the 5.6.890 "leak" that eventually became the OTA release......the 5.7.906 "leak" has become the OTA soak test...which will most likely become the final release.
Any guesses on how long it takes for release after soak test?

From my experiences, it usually is about a week after the soak test that the update starts getting pushed to all.....if nothing major crops up during the test....
Since the .906 leak has been used for so long by many without complaints, I don't see the soak testers reporting any "update stopping" issues.

Verizon says that they are officially releasing the 905 build... People are saying they are getting the 906 but the morons at Verizon say its the 905.
Alright well I happened to look over this thread; thought I would clear some things up.
Motorola says that any soak test is a confidential test -- hardly anybody listens to that though. The OTA update was scheduled to roll out in February, and the support document for the 905 update was created in February, but Motorola placed it on hold to make room for the 5.9.902 update for the DROID BIONIC and the 6.12.173 update for the DROID RAZR series. Both rolled out and did good on completing during February.
Motorola is just now getting a chance to remember that the DROID 3 exists to all of us. Verizon posted a early labeled document that showed 5.7.905 as the release. Verizon has corrected this error -- a support document for the 5.7.906 update is up now.
The leak has all the same signatures. Everything is the same from the soak test to the leak. If you cannot wait, installing 5.7.906 from me will not hurt your phone, nor will it remove you from the upgrade path.
The long-forgotten DROID X2 is also seeing an update, I am happy for them too since I was a previous owner of the DX2. Ive upgraded my devices to 5.7.906, I got the official soak update. If upon request I will post a link to download the update that came with the soak update and not the leak ONLY ON REQUESTS!!
That's all for now.

I just got this email from Motorola:
Hi.
Thanks for much for siging up to provide feedback on the upcoming software upgrade for the Droid 3. Unless we run into unexpected difficulties, we will start the upgrade mid-day tomorrow.
One warning -- please DO NOT perform a factory data reset in advance of the upgrade. It can knock you off our upgrade list.
You can now enter the private community where we will be expecting your feedback. Get started here [NOTE - I REMOVED THE LINK] and learn more. In the event that you can't enter the community, reply to this email with the user name and password you are using.
Please do not send emails here or PM me if you can possibly help it. Soaks are busy times and mostly I will be in the community.

It was unknown until the soak test actually began whether the leaked update was the official update or not. When it was first leaked, there was no way to know whether or not it would take you off the actual upgrade path for the future. Even after Verizon posted preliminary info about the update with the same build number on their site, it was possible that they would change things and re-publish the page. Just because you jumped the gun and got lucky doesn't mean this is insignificant news for those of us who were patient.
Granted it's all moot now since this is in the past...

Does this OTA break the same things that people reported on the leak? Camera issues, double tappin on keyboards, etc. ?

When 5.5.893, 5.7.893, and 5.8.894 were leaked I jumped on the bandwagon and went to 5.7.893. Then we found out that 5.5.893 was going to be the official patch. And at that point none of us on 5.7.893 or 5.8.894 were on the OTA path anymore. No FXZ file existed back then and the method to put us back on the OTA path was literally just an idea at the time. Well, I wanted to do my part to help out so I jumped on trying to get my Bionic back on the path using the methods. *I* screwed up and ended up bricking my Bionic. For 36 hours I was completely screwed and VZW even offered to replace the phone under warranty even after they knew what I'd done to it. However, someone then posted a FXZ method and I was able to recover my Bionic and get it back on the OTA path. I returned the replacement without even opening it. It was an atypical experience for those off the path, but, with no method back right now, I'm going to wait until there is. Those who updated to the first leak are about to get a lesson in why patience is good with leaks on Moto phones. I feel for every single person and hope to GOD the community gets them back on track quickly.

Ok so on my birthday my Bionic took a dump on me and I had to go to Best Buy to get a new one shipped to me. The question is now should I put the ICS update one it?
On my previous Bionic I had .232 so I could go back to .905 (as far as I know that is the last leak to be able to go back to .905). My argument is that being so close to the OTA.
Having my Mac bootcamped I can go back to 905 if I need to.
I would def go to ICS .232 I haven't heard about being able to go back if needed after that ICS update. I know .232 isn't the most stable/best of the ICS builds but mine works very well and I know I can go back if needed. The update is taking way to long for me I have been on ICS for months now and can't imagine not having it. Funny when I grab my brother's and see GB I think man this phone sucks lol.

Not exactly sure what your asking??
I don't think that you understand the process. Removing the ads means reflashing the entire phone, so any updates that were installed would no longer be there as the images used to reflash do not include any updates.
There was one update that only the amazon version got to make it harder to disable the ads. Both versions of the phone got a July security update pushed but this only works on completely unmodified phones.
The much awaited band 12 update has NOT been released.
Either your source of information is suspect or you are not yet understanding the information. Read carefully in THIS forum to learn what's going on with this phone.

The non prime has not yet received any OTA, only the Prime variant. Non prime still on June security
That's not true. My phone is converted to non-Prime edition and I WAS offered the July security updates. I could not install them because I have twrp, root, and xposed but I was told that an update was available for the non-amazon version. The amazon version of the phone has had TWO updates - the first one to stop turning off the ad server and the second one with the July security updates.

That is what I got after I tried applying the update, just to see what would happen - I knew it wouldn't work with root, twrp, etc. but hoped that I would be able to find the downloaded update file on the phone somewhere. Your the only one reporting it, that I can find. But hey if they released it great. But the only downloads for OTAs I can find are for the prime. If anyone has an OTA for non prime that updates it from 1.2 please post a link. @ColtonDRG is thinking of merging the July security updates to OEM, but if it's already been released via OTA, someone let him know!! I'm not trying to argue with you, it's just people are getting confused and frustrated already with the different flash methods etc... Don't get me wrong, I would be super stoked if BLU actually supported the non subsidized non prime variant.

Yay, someone else finally got it! No, jloh1963, it wasn't the anticipated band 12 voLTE update, it's just the July security updates. But no one can install it unless they are completely stock and few in this forum probably are.
Colton, it did attempt to apply the update after downloading it and prompting me and, as expected, the update failed. That's why I made that post a week or so ago asking where I might find the failed update. I wanted to save it. But I did a search on the phone and couldn't find anything that looked like it.

I understand. Does anyone know how to capture OTA URLs? If so, can you PLEASE look for the update and capture the URL before applying it?

Yay, someone else finally got it! No, jloh1963, it wasn't the anticipated band 12 voLTE update, it's just the July security updates. But no one can install it unless they are completely stock and few in this forum probably are.
Colton, it did attempt to apply the update after downloading it and prompting me and, as expected, the update failed. That's why I made that post a week or so ago asking where I might find the failed update. I wanted to save it. But I did a search on the phone and couldn't find anything that looked like it.

Also, can someone who already has the update please send us their custom build number? Please?

It is entirely possible that this FOTA program actually does know how to do gradual rollout like most other programs. I assume that's what's going on here.

No, as long as the system, boot image, and recovery aren't altered. Re-run the conversion to make sure if you have any doubts

Yeah I did earlier today, reran conversion via spft and reset/wipe to factory. Ran update check but nothing, so I rooted/installed TWRP and restored my current config. I'll reset and let it sit for a day or two, perhaps its a gradual rollout. Will do my best to grab URL
Hi, my phone has the 2nd soak test, and I heard about a 3rd soak test, about a week ago.
My question is:
Someone has the 3rd soak test?

I received it by OTA 1-2 days after it was released, but the 3rd was released about 5-6 days, and my phone doesn't show me the update

If you're part of the MFN, which you should be if you're receiving the updates by OTA, I'd suggest messaging on the official soak test forums. You should have the link in an email if you were selected for the soak test. Maybe they haven't pushed the patch to you for some reason.
