[DEV] [ICS] "Encryption Unsuccesful" solution - Droid Incredible Android Development

After about 2 weeks of screwing around with my phone, giving up and switching back to my old eris, and thinking it was just hosed, I finally found a solution for anyone with the "Encryption Unsuccesful" message in ICS. You must perform the HTC bootloader unlock via htcdev.net. After you do this, you may
./fastboot erase cache
and
./fastboot erase userdata
(or in my case, select "clear storage" in the main bootloader menu)
which will restore your phone to a usable condition.

Nevermind... Still hosed. Admins, you may delete this thread as it is useless, or perhaps it will gain some support from those who know better than I?

thanks ,pyroboy1080
clear storage is terrible to me

The way I fixed mine was to do a complete wipe in CWM (factory reset/wipe all user data, format boot and system) then flash my ROM of choice.

Thanks Pons. For some reason I couldn't wipe in CWM 5 but 3.0.0.8 worked just fine for me.

[Q] Stuck at water motorola logo after unroot

Hey guys, I tried to unroot my XT1097 pressing the button at the SuperSU app, but when I restarted the phone, the phone wouldnt boot, I'm stuck at the motorola "water-ish" motorola logo. My bootloader is unlocked with TWRP. What can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance (and sorry if I couldn't find an answer doing searches )
i have experienced this problem many times when trying to restore the MotoX 2014 from either a nandroid backup, "fix permissions" and even a factory reset in TWRP (when i did not also wipe the user files). it is worth noting that I never had these problems until after the lollipop update. perhaps it is a consequence of whatever they did to allow the option to encrypt bootloader (which is a feature I have opted out of).
the fix is simple but a real PITA assuming you do not have all your files like pictures etc backed up. I will list 3 options below. the first option is an attempt to get it to boot without wiping your files. be aware your options are contingent on the type of recovery you are running (i.e. TWRP or stock). the nutshell answer: In order to restore full functionality you must wipe everything including user files. I do not know what recovery you have, but if runnning TWRP then the basic factory wipe is not enough when running lollipop.
1-in TWRP recovery, go to "wipe" then "advanced wipe," check the "system and click "repair or change file system" then click "repair"
2-in TWRP recovery, go to "wipe" then "advanced wipe," check "dalvik cache", "data", "internal storage" and "cache".....DO NOT CHECK "system"
3-IF the above steps fail or if you have stock recovery, just perform a factory reset. you should be good to go at that point
I had this issue with my Nexus 7 after unrooting to take an OTA to 5.0.2. Unfortunately the only way I was able to fix it was to use stock recovery and clear user data and cache.

TWRP - Not wiping

I've been rooted since I got the Nexus 6 and recently have been having issues with TWRP. I can back up and restore but it won't do a factory data reset or wipe of any kind. I've tried with TWRP 2.8.6.0, 2.8.7.0 and 2.8.7.1. When trying to flash a new rom I select factory data reset, even tried advance wipe and wiped the whole phone including internal storage. After flashing the rom boots up like I dirty flashed it. I've even returned to stock, rerooted and the same issues with TWRP - it just won't wipe. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated as I'd like to flash a Marshmallow rom.

I miss in your description that you format the data partition.

When you have TWRP installed and bootloader unlocked you could follow the instructions in the OP of the JDX rom.
What I would do: fastboot flash M-bootloader and M-radio. Reboot to bootloader and fastboot flash TWRP 2.8.7.1. Than flash the JDX 4.0 rom.
Power off the N6. Reboot in recovery TWRP and wipe cache and do a factory reset.

I thought about that but not sure it would boot if not really wiping.

You need to connect N6 -> PC.
And use a dosbox as administrator.
You have 2 options to boot in bootloader mode.
From the PC or pressing buttons Power + Vol down. So why no boot ?

I've been messing with the phone for about three hours today and got it back running. Will give that a try in a day or two - so frustrated right now may make a major mistake.
I would still like to find out why TWRP has stopped wiping on my phone.

Stuck on TWRP after attempted restore

Hi guys.
So after developing an audio bug on Lineage OS 15.1 (a story for another day) I decided to restore one of my old backups via TWRP (unofficial decrypt-friendly version).
I press restore, get some sort of error about mounting /system and then on reboot I get a message asking me to factory reset which takes me to TWRP. Not too surprised by this point because the Huawei bootloader is quirky.
However, when I go into TWRP, it simply gets stuck on the loading screen endlessly. I left it for several hours and it didn't budge. Rebooted several times.
I tried reflashing TWRP via fastboot, no dice, same result. I flashed the official recovery too. That loads fine, but obviously I can't restore with that because it doesn't support encryption.
So I'm a bit stuck here. I've read somewhere that it takes ages to load when you have plenty in the data and cache folders, which I do, but I really don't want to wipe because I have a full week of precious holiday photos and videos I wasn't able to back up (No access to a PC at the time).
Any advice?
Not sure how to fix the TWRP restore problem, but have you tried connecting to your PC while in TWRP? If I remember correctly, it'll allow you to connect to a computer so you could access your storage and backup the files you need.

Problem is that everything is encrypted, so even if it does show up it will be gobbledygook (nonsense).
Lesson to learn from this: always backup before trying to update ROM or flash something new.
I guess what you can do is to try to flash Lineage again and see if you can make that boot.

Yeah, there's a few reasons that happened. Usually I autobackup everything but I had been away from wifi for a week. I backed stuff up via Titanium but obviously that got encrypted too. Restores also have never given me problems in the past so I didn't expect anything to go wrong (still not sure what did).
Anyway, I'm not sure how to flash lineage without TWRP, especially with everything encrypted. To have any chance of getting it to work I'm guessing I'd need to flash it the same way I did originally, which was with everything decrypted which makes the issue moot. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Try flashing a treble rom via fastboot. Then wipe data and cache.
fastboot flash system "GSI. img"
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot

Thanks, but I'm trying to prevent loss of data. I'd probably just use e-recovery if I don't mind losing data and want to reset to start again from scratch.
Erasing userdata and cache is just factory reset. It won't wipe your internal storage which where your photos are kept.
Ok, turns out once I chose the "download latest firmware and stock recovery" from erecovery it didn't wipe the internal sd data!
Everything is still there and I can access it now from the huawei stock ROM even though I came from lineage OS. It thankfully does not reset the encryption keys or the pattern lock, so you'll be just fine once you do a system boot and go through the regular setup process.
I recommend this approach because it's pretty hassle free.

Boot partition in le2 cannot be wiped. As for your bootloader relocking problem, flash twrp and then allow it to perform system modifications. Then wipe data. Then wipe system. If that doesn't work, then format data to ext2 using mkef2s and then for mat data again using ext4. Then format data ,system , cache and dalvik cache only. Your bootloader will not relock by itself again. If it still does, then flash lazyflasher to disable dm-verity and unencrypt phone

Are you able to boot to recovery(twrp)?
If yes, try flashing the latest twrp image using twrp on your phone. Then repeat steps mentioned. Finally, flash stock ROM Zip
Ive bricked the bastard but will continue
Is the red LED flashing or stuck when you let it charge?

Stuck in recovery bootloop

Hello guys
I tried to flash my K20 Pro today with a custom ROM and somehow ended up with a bootloop (I wiped everything pretty much, Data, Vendor (which was probably the mistake, dunno), System, caches, all that). So, I went ahead and flashed the stock ROM through the MiFlash tool, and I can use the stock ROM. After that, I flash TWRP and repeat the process. Wipe, flash, reboot. And I get the bootloop.
Bootloader is unlocked as should be.
Anyone know what's causing this and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Just noticed that after this last attempt where it bootlooped into the recovery, everything's encrypted, don't know if that helps but it's there.

Had it running on the fastboot MIUI ROM, flashed TWRP, wiped caches, system and data. Then data again. Storage shows up in 3 "partitions" and I can't paste files to them. When I try to reboot back to TWRP it just goes to fastboot and after reflashing TWRP, it still will boot to fastboot instead of the just flashed recovery. Using fastboot oem reboot-recovery if that helps.
After the wipe, doing fastboot boot twrp.img will fire up a "Failed to load/authenticate boot image: Load Error"
Format is not the same that wipe
From MIUI
Install TWRP.
Boot TWRP.
Go to wipe menu and factory reset.
Return to wipe menu and select format data.
At no point do you need to go into the advanced wipe menu.
Return to the main menu.
Go to boot menu.
Select (re)boot recovery to allow TWRP to correctly mount the newly formatted data partition.
Copy across the files you want to flash, then flash them.
