Hey guys, I tried to unroot my XT1097 pressing the button at the SuperSU app, but when I restarted the phone, the phone wouldnt boot, I'm stuck at the motorola "water-ish" motorola logo. My bootloader is unlocked with TWRP. What can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance (and sorry if I couldn't find an answer doing searches )
i have experienced this problem many times when trying to restore the MotoX 2014 from either a nandroid backup, "fix permissions" and even a factory reset in TWRP (when i did not also wipe the user files). it is worth noting that I never had these problems until after the lollipop update. perhaps it is a consequence of whatever they did to allow the option to encrypt bootloader (which is a feature I have opted out of).
the fix is simple but a real PITA assuming you do not have all your files like pictures etc backed up. I will list 3 options below. the first option is an attempt to get it to boot without wiping your files. be aware your options are contingent on the type of recovery you are running (i.e. TWRP or stock). the nutshell answer: In order to restore full functionality you must wipe everything including user files. I do not know what recovery you have, but if runnning TWRP then the basic factory wipe is not enough when running lollipop.
1-in TWRP recovery, go to "wipe" then "advanced wipe," check the "system and click "repair or change file system" then click "repair"
2-in TWRP recovery, go to "wipe" then "advanced wipe," check "dalvik cache", "data", "internal storage" and "cache".....DO NOT CHECK "system"
3-IF the above steps fail or if you have stock recovery, just perform a factory reset. you should be good to go at that point
I had this issue with my Nexus 7 after unrooting to take an OTA to 5.0.2. Unfortunately the only way I was able to fix it was to use stock recovery and clear user data and cache.

Hi All,
I have the VZW DE and was having trouble deleting files when connecting my phone to Ubuntu (when I tried to delete a file, my phone would reboot). I figured I corrupted some files and had a nandroid backup from a few days ago. So I rebooted into TWRP and did a restore of the backup (system, data, and boot). But now when I reboot, my phone is stuck in a boot loop on the bootloader unlock screen. It will stay on for about 30 seconds, the phone will power down and then back to the bootloader unlock screen . I have no choice but to go back into TWRP.
I tried all that I could, I wiped then restored, same thing. I even had a back up from a few weeks ago but same results. Strange thing is, every time I go back into TWRP and click the Mount button, System mount is always unchecked even when I check it and reboot (same thing happens, stuck on bootloader unlock screen and will have to go back into TWRP)
Any ideas whats happening? I thought the restore would work perfectly but has completely stopped me from getting back on my phone.
Thanks guys!

what FW are you on? what twrp version are you using? did you try wiping cache and dalvik before and after restoring your back up?

Sorry about the delay. Thanks for your response jay!
If by FW you mean firmware, I'm on Verizon's 139.15.1_ghost. I just recently flashed twrp version 2.6.3.1 to prep for 4.4 and it flashed successfully. I wiped cache and dalvik before and after (always like to be on the safe side haha).
I tried a few other methods, like wiping the system and restoring, and wiping system, flashing the flashable zip 139.15.1 and restoring just data from the backup, etc.
I'm thinking about just RSDing my phone with the latest firmware (140.45.5_ghost) and start from scratch. Is that tool available for Linux?

thats your problem. you flashed twrp for 4.4 but you weren't on 4.4. I don't believe that twrp is backwards compatible. what you need to do is flash your old twrp back to the recovery. then restore your backup. then flash the stock recovery and system images. then take the ota. then flash the new twrp, then boot phone, say you wnat root. then create another back up of that twrp.

Never even thought about that! I will try those steps as soon as I get home today!
Thanks jay!!
Hi,
I had recently tried to root my Moto G 2014 (running 6.0) so I could install the latest CM13. I followed all the instructions and even came across the red WARNING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED SCREEN every time I try to reboot the device(status code=3). After installing TWRP 3.0.2.3 and making a backup of current state, I ran into a few bootloops which I managed to fix by flashing it back with a stock as shown on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/official-stock-firmware-t3018682 (I downloaded both the download links and extracted everything to a single folder before following all the commands)
The SIM wasn't receiving any signal thereafter, which I luckily managed to fix with help from another thread.
My problem is that I've tried to install SuperSU more than a couple of times with different versions and it almost always sends my phone into a bootloop. The few times where I was able to boot into system, it kept giving me the error that the necessary binaries weren't installed and I was not able to do as well, due to the bootloop issue. Working RootChecker told me that my device wasn't rooted properly, which I wasn't surprised at.
Although I read somewhere that rooting isn't necessary to flash a custom ROM like CM13, so I decided to negate SuperSU (I did the unroot everything option on SuperSU and factory reset the device, cleared data, cache and dalvik too) and try flashing it directly instead through TWRP. It kept giving me the Error 7 even after I had removed the assert checks.
Can someone tell me what I did wrong and what can I do to go ahead? Also, is my bootloader completely unlocked? I tried checking *#*#7378423#*#* but nothing happened, so I rebooted into bootloader and used the 'fastboot oem device-info' command but it said that the command was invalid or something.
As of right now, the phone is running 6.0 with all the stock apps. The bootloader unlocked warning still shows up every time I reboot the phone though.
Boot into twrp and wipe cache , dalvik cache, system and data and flash cm13 and wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot you should be good to go if u want root access flash the latest version of supersu or you can for a rom which has preinstalled supersu such as dirty unicorns.

while @kushal_10 explained most of the things to do, i would like to remind you that CM13 has inbuilt Root. You just have to enable Developer options, then in Developer Options, under Root Access, choose Apps and ADB. Don't flash SuperSu
Hope I helped you.

I read somewhere that wiping the system isn't advisory because in case something goes wrong, there will be no way to restore. Can you confirm this?
So I just recently received a new (to me) Nexus 6. Going through the process of unlocking the bootloader I forgot to do the command "fasboot reboot". I then installed TWRP and then booted into it. From there I rebooted the system and was brought to a screen that says encryption unsuccessful. I hit the reset button which brought me to twrp and asked for a password. I typed in "default_password", it did it's thing and rebooted to the same "encryption unsuccesful". I tried searching XDA as well as Google to no avail. When searching Google I found some threads for other devices but I didn't want to get into a worse situation than I'm already in so I thought I'd ask here before trying anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Update: I flashed the stock image (manually as the flash-all didn't work) and I was able to get the phone to boot up into Android. But whenever I reset the device it gives me the "Your device is corrupt" screen before booting into the system. And it seems like whenever I try to flash supersu or anything I'll get that message and then it just goes to a black screen and never boots into Android. I even tried to restore a TWRP backup and it still just went to the corrupt screen and then black. I was only able to get it to boot into Android after reflashing the stock images again. Is this a problem with the hardware or is there something I can do to fix it?
Edit: I've also noticed under internal storage it's only showing 23 GB available but this is the 64 GB model.

Did you format/wipe the system, data and caches - a complete factory reset ?
There are several things going on here.
1. Your device is corrupt message: This is a normal message that appears whenever you attempt to customize the device. It may also appear if there is an issue with the internal storage in general.
2. SuperSU: What version? You should be using the latest (2.76) or you risk having a bootloop.
3. TWRP: What version? Latest is 3.0.2-0. Older versions will offer to flash SuperSU. Don't accept the offer or you will enter a bootloop.
4. Internal storage: When you flashed the stock ROM you also flashed the userdata image in it, which caused you to lose half your storage. Simply wipe internal storage in TWRP to fix.
Your first thing is to fix your internal storage, which should be done through TWRP. From there, you will need to do a complete factory reset, as the failed encryption is the main reason you're getting a corrupt device warning. After the factory reset, restore the stock image, but do not flash userdata.img.
Thanks guys! Doing the factory data reset in stock recovery fixed it for me. It took about 30 minutes to complete, but now I've got root, twrp, and custom ROM and kernel with no issues.
Hi guys,
I want to make a clean install of Nougat (meaning wipe everything and installing Nougat) via the 1.40GiB full zip I got from here, and since this is my first OnePlus device I would like to know if the process I'm thinking of is correct.
The processes I'm thinking about is:
- Booting up to recovery (stock)
- Wipe data and cache > Erase everything(Music, pics, etc)
- Install the zip with the "Install from internal storage" option
I have everything completely stock and a locked bootloader.
So, would this processes get me what I'm looking for?
Do I need to unlock the bootloader to flash the full zip?
Would I be better of with TWRP?
Just install the 1.4GB zip via settings and do a factory reset afterwards. Be sure to enable wipe internal data or something like that in settings when doing the factory reset.
You don't need TWRP, unlocked bootloader or tinkering in oneplus recovery.

Thank you very much. Just tried it now. Exactly what I was looking for.
It's great that it is so easy and painless.
So recently I bricked my phone and had to flash into a stock ROM, but after flashing the phone worked fine, but the recovery mode I used to have is gone and is replaced by just a menu that offers to factory reset. So how do I get the old recovery menu back?
also how do I downgrade to kitkat?
Not sure if helpful, but the menu offering factory reset is not a part of the recovery and will stay there no matter what. I have TWRP on my LG L90 and still have to "Confirm factory reset" for TWRP to launch.

Did you install TWRP Recovery before and are referring to it? When I want to start twrp I just type yes on the factory image menu you mentioned and TWRP automatically starts up without deleting anything...
Of couse I am not responsible for any data loss that might happen, but if you are in this particular siuation it probably works.
Perhaps you even habe to install TWRP Recovery (or anything similar) again since there is no real bootloader mode (just the download mode) on the l90 and your custom one might have been deleted.
