[Q] The last straw (ICS to GB thread) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After reading the frankly scary things that the leaked ICS kernels can do to the Note, I want to go back to Gingerbread.
I'm currently on ICS Stunner 1.4.19. What is the safest way to go back to Gingerbread without bricking my phone?

Flash any stock gb rom via pc odin.
Pls look here if you dont know how:

Can I flash something like the KJ1 stock gingerbread ROM then? Or only LB2?

Sorry mate, but the easiest answer will be: use the search function! not because I´m a douche, but more because there are a BUNCH of other threads with even the same title

You can choose one.what you prefer.

I was on Stunner too. then disregarded the warnings and flashed Alba using the leaked kernel. I was lucky and no brick. to be safe, i installed Dafuq kernel (I think you really should, NOW).
then i decided enough of all these testing ROMs, i went back to recovery, installed abyss4.2redpill original logo kernel and flashed Rocketromv22 then v23. now i'm back to GB, safely.
so either you install the abyssnote4.2 kernel and flash your GB firmware, or if you really want to be on the SAFEST ROUTE, pc odin the stock GB and start from that.

Download AbyssNote 4.2, open the zip file and extract the zImage file. Put this on your Note and flash it with Mobile Odin. To my knowledge Mobile Odin uses it's own kernel to flash so there's no risk of bricking.
When Abyss is flashed, reboot into recovery, wipe data/cache/Dalvik and you're all set to flash any custom GB rom.

Lol me2 i scared when i see this post " ics leak brick phone " :S
and im do all that step to brick phone :S wipe in CWM when i was in ice cream sandwitch but im lucky and my phone not brick but it's always freeze :S and i want to know if my phone got damage .. the phone will complatly dead ? or got some issue or nothing ?

Perhaps it´s my lack of language skills...but as I said: It wasn´t my intention to play the douchemaster here...sorry if it was the case (not including the link above, it´s not meant that serious!)
But mate, just check this out:

etc. etc. etc.......and realize that none of these threads is older than a few weeks...
Of course, what I am doing here is just ridiculous...posting an answer to your question that doesn´t bring you anything instead of just answering your question. It IS like the old frustrated man yelling at someone who´s stepping on his grass.
But mate, believe me...a few months or years later from now...YOU will be the one, writing similar posts like mine to other newbies

[Q]Should I use CWM or odin to flash 4.0rom like romow?

I know this is a very stupid question but I just want to make sure flashing with CWM is viable.
For the leaked stock ics 4.0 rom I know I should use odin to flash, but how about custom 4.0 rom like Romow? Should I use CWM to flash the zip file?
Thx~
ps: I am currently running rocketrom v19 with CWM
use CWM n flash zip

There are no instructions in romow's thread and that's why i am here to ask for any further instructions. I bet flashing a 4.0custom rom is similar to flashing Gingerbread rom. Am i right?
Also, some ppl claimed that I need to first flash the stock leaked 4.0 rom then have my phone rooted with CWM installed and finally flash custom 4.0 rom with CWM. Is that really necessary?

There are better roms now than ROMOW's one i think, try flashing Rocket Rom, or the new AOSP
From the instructions given in [02/24/12][Team Rocket ROM][open beta ICS v4.0.3][v1.5][15Tooglebar] daily ROM now! , it seems I really have to flash the leaked ics rom first before installing the rocketrom 4.0.3 rom, is that true? That means I cannot directly install the ics rocketrom from any gingerbread custom rom?

Yes youre right, there is a problem with root a cwm in ics, and you need to da that
Follow carefully the instructiones if not you wont hace fullroot
PROBLEMS!
Just have to ask it right here as well...I went to romow yesterday for testing reasons (just flashed the zip in cwm) but I have to go back since there are too many bugs imao atm.
Just tried to go back to my CWM Backup....now I´m stucked at the bootanimation!
Do you guys know what could be the reason here? And what I could do to get my nandroid backup working again?

Did you flash 4.0.3 directly from gingerbread rom? BTW I've heard many people say their phones were stuck in the bootscreen(The samsung N7000 with no boot animation) when they tried to go back from ics to gingerbread. Seems this is a common problem....

Yes, I came directly from GB!
If you can load the boot animation that means ur phone is not bricked. You should try to download a stock gingerbread rom from dr ketan's post and flash it by odin pc.

When going back to GB, i kinda 'restart' the whole process by going back to Stock ROM via Odin, and redo the root and CWM.
Else, there are strange quirky issue ex. CWM just hangs while wiping the phone.
Hey Kelvin Fong & J.wong, thank you guys for your support!
Sorry for noobing around from now on...I´m not exactly the newest guy when it comes to these flash-things, but I have to admit that I´m kind of confused now...

Should be this one(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997).
Firstly, download one of the roms from [Older ROMs (Directly Rootable)].
Secondly, follow the [Installation Guide For Older ROM ], the one using odin pc.
You may see below another flashing method using mobile odin, but that doesn't suit you since that one requires your phone rooted before and will keep your root after flashing. The one with odin pc will wipe out all your data and apps(of course not your SD card) and also unroot your phone. That means your CWM and root will all be gone and you have to follow another post to root it again(now this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360)
this one(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997)teaches you how to flash a rootable gingerbread rom, but not rooted. This one(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360)shows you how to root your phone and install CWM. I think these two posts are the best tutorials you are looking for.
I think you should download this >>http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=907734&d=1329574136
This one is better organized.
Thanks mate! Saved it to my desktop...but finally i was able to manage the problem by simply flashing a *fresh* RocketRom again (?!). I thought it would be worth a try...
Anyway: Thank you very much for your support, it´s good to still meet that friendly kind of people with patience here on the board (it´s getting less these days) hope i´ll be able to return the favor in future

As far as I remember I made my very first steps with odin after I reveived my note (root, cwm)...rocket has been flashed by using cwm. But yes, my binary counter increased definitely...
...I do have a USB Jig, but in some was I am kind of afraid of going trough this! To fumble around in pure darkness...hmmm i don´t know
Have you tried it yourself?
Actually I've got a yellow triangle together with increased binary counter as I followed another tutorial guide(I should follow dr ketan's guide before).
I think removing the counter with a jig is way too dangerous for me so I don't want to risk it. Simply remove the counter only when you really need to bring your phone to samsung because maybe you don't even have to claim the warranty at all.

[Q] plz what ics leak mean ?

plz what ics leak mean ? i am new to android world
what is the difference between ics leak and repack and stock and other expressions?
what is the difference between kernel and firmware expression ?
give me example ( stuuner and canyon and lpy and lpf and gb )...
i asked this noob question as i am noob at flashing and i read alot about bricks and emmc bug for leak and repack ICS
now i am using lpf rooted ics + supersu
Ics leak is when the ice cream in the ice cream sandwich is almost melted and starting to leak. In all seriousness a leak is when a company accidentally loses a firmware version for a phone and it goes public.

The first ICS Roms for Note were buit on a DANGEROUS Kernel which came from a "leak". That kernel was responsible for bricking many devices due to its eMMC bug.
Now all the new ICS Roms are "fixed" by using new Kernels, but the problem continues if you go from an old rom (leak kernel) to a new one. There is a specific way to do it. You can read all about it in many threads.
If you tell me which Rom you want to flash and on which Rom you currently use i can give you more detailes!
Hope i could help!

You can at least post link to other thread with comment moved comment to seperate thread.
Do a flash back to stock gb throught pc odin, perform data factory reset through dialer, google for code ending something like 3855.
Root it and put cf kernel on it, perform factory reset from recovery, wipe caches and dalvik cache. Then reinstall rocket by flashing the zip in recovery.
After this do not recover apps just redownload from playstore. Do it one by one so you can eliminate which one is responsible. If thats case.
You loose data but also lingering crap from past that can cause fc an reboot. Now you can best disable keep device backup in Google cloud.
Last read all post in rocket thread. Should it return, there areprobably others with same problem. Check their fixes lmao

Ok go to first post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
All should become clear reading this thread. Its a sticky in developement with sceenshots on how to install. From development you can also find cf root.
Recap
Download odin, shut down kies and start it on pc.
Download your rom of choice, unzip it.
Turn phone off, turn on and push volume down, home key and buttun at same time, it should go to download mode, Its tricky, may need couple tries.
dont wait to long, connect to pc, watch added in odin, select extracted tar. Md5 file, the largest, put in pda, no repartition no clear efs.
Press volume button up to initiate download mode and select start on odin, if your download was ok, it should flash and show pass on odin.
If I were you I would dl gb rom, because from gb rom the samsung factory reset I mentioned earlier is safe. Usually this fixes bootloop itself, however on ics rom, custom, leak or official this is not safe. (except cm9 with xplodwild kernel)

New n7000 needs a little guidance.

I just traded my i717 note for the n7000. After reading random forums on here, i'm a bit flustered but hanging in there.
Just a question, I currently have this set up on my phone:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: N7000XXLP1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.14-FM-2.0-g399c932 [email protected])
Build: Gingerbread.XXLA6
My questions are:
1) Is XXLP1 an ICS modem?
2) I want to revert this phone back to a good stock image. I was thinking a German image. What do you think? (so I can update to ICS stock/root)
Your help would be appreciated.
Basically I just wanted to know if it's safe for me to flash stock rom/kernel without worrying about bricking my device and can I flash traingleway by chainfire to remove yellow triangle and reset counter without bricking my device. Please. Help
Stock is completely fine. Just the recoveries are giving people problems. Also LP modems are ICS

Stock is completely safe my hairy arse. Even large file deletion can cause a hard-brick.
Stick to:
CM9
Asylum
ParanoidAndroid or
MIUI.
These Roms contain a safe kernel. Everything else carries the risk of a hard-brick.
Be warned.
Alright, so if I flash stock rom and kernel, will it flash the baseband back to stock? Also which stock would you recommend?
ps. There is currently CWM on my phone, should I flash a factory recovery or just leave it as is?

Yep, Sammy did a crap job of official updates. All of them can mess up your EMMC.
However, you have an option to flash any of the CM9-based Roms, and you will be fine (those mentioned in the previous post).
........................
I chose Asylum, but one of the requirements is that recovery has to be:
on a proper working recovery, (DAFUQ, CM9 or a GB recovery ONLY)
The phone currently has CWM 5.0.2.7.

If I currently have a gb rom and kernel, shouldnt it be okay to flash stock gb? Or because I have an ICS baseband it makes it a problem?
If I were to follow the instructions posted here,

Couldn't I be worry free about bricking?

PERFECT! So I didn't buy that much of a crappy phone. All I have to do is flash a stock GB rom and kernel. Then I'm able to install any gb custom rom, but should steer clear of any ICS roms that are deemed unsafe. Cool!

Can't be happier. Thank you all for your help! I greatly appreciate the quick responses I received on this thread!!

[Q] More lost than ever

Guys need some orientation, I'm more lost than ever.
Last monday (June 11th), I received the upgrade from GB (GT-N7000_TTT_N7000UBKK2_N7000UBKK1_N7000UUBKK2) to ICS (N7000UBLPC_N7000WELP7_N7000UUBLP9). I must admit its running great, only complain is GO Launcher its running a bit laggy (I haven't wipe anything my note has a 0x19 code on eMMC).
Thing is I spected more from the ROM, so I'm thinking about going back to GB or maybe trying a CM9 based ROM, but no matter how much I read I can't find a clear "safe" way to downgrade. If any of you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction as to HOW-TO revert to GB.
I know there are lots of posts about it but apparently there is no settling on which is the safetest way, so... any help would be appreciated.
Another thing is (and this is just me curious about it). When i check my phone region (*#code#IMEI#) my note shows as TTT and I can't find that on the Samsung Letter Codes, any ideas which is it?
Thanks for your help.
Hello There
if you are using ics you can instantly got to stock GB by flashing through odin.
Flash GB with Odin (PC), root it and flash CM9. That's safe.
Ok. Then there is no need for any previous steps? Just PC-Odin and flash any stock GB? Its that right?

I'm in a similar position. I'd like to know if it's possible to go from stock ICS back to GB without wiping?
I don't want to lose my saved data (well, Angry Birds progress really) and I don't have root, so Titanium Backup is out. That way I could then get root, save my data then go nuts with updates.

If you follow that instructions you will be fine as long after flashing dont factory reset or recovery data wipe. The only solution to be safe is to have safe ics kernel like speedmod k3-3 or franco r3,r4,r5& r6.

Yes you will no longer get an update. You can always use the pc odin to update dont worry.
If you follow those instruction you will loose your root but you can always get rooted if you flash speedmod k3-3.

If you flash ics your in ics. If flash gb your in gb. There is no dual boot.
Sorry going to bed. Just follow the instruction you'll be fine. If your not sure, just remain in gb, you will get better batery life compare to ics.
ok thanks...battery life is important...oh well i just thought maybe i could run the ics rom but have a safe firmware...
one more question , kies asks me to update my firmware, will updating to the latest firmware which i assume is lc1 , will updating delete all my game data files?
All stock ics is no wipe, it will not delete your data.
If an update im sure it is ice cream sandwich android, if its not then i dont know its a wipe or no wipe but if its a wipe then it will delete all your data better back it up if i were you.
