[Q] Expand Internal Memory of Google nexus one - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Anyone can help me to figure out how can i move all date(applications fails) to SD card? , because I installed some Apps on my sd but phone says that internal memory is low , I guess that some fails of Apps still leaving in internal memory.

can u pls elaborate the condition of ur phone?like whether u r rooted or not , wat rom u r running?
yes eventhough u move apps2sd , some data remains in internal memory...
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk

Yes, it is rooted, android gingerbread 2.3.6

so u r wid rooted stock rom. so in order to increase internal storage so as to install more apps. you got two options.
1. flash a custom rom that supports sd ext ...
2. stay wid stock rom, install blackrose and resize partition.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk

Research Apps2sd or using something like darktremor script and a 1gb ext4 partition on your SD card
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium

Which rom will you suggest?
How can I install rom?
Is it safe or can I recovery current rom after changing?
Thanks

hmmmm. bro u need to do some searching and reading before u do these things...
yes you can restore back to ur previous rom if u had done its backup in recovery... btw wat recovery are u running... stock or custom???
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk

I don't know, I bought phone in new condition and does not change rom. How can I check it?

all those scripts are total crap your best bet is links2sd research it.

Thanks a lot.
One more question, I tried to find info about How can I turn on radio? but nothing exactly I can not Found, can you give me some links?

u mean fm radio right?
insert ur headphone and open that app
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk

Yes I mean FM radio, but it officially turn off, I need some mod for turning it on.

About a month ago I was in the same position as you are. Was really new to all of this and I was constantly running out of space on my N1. All this stuff takes time to figure out, but its really not that difficult if you can follow direction and aren't afraid of typing commands. IMO the easiest way to expand your internal memory is to install CM7 and use S2E. Note that you are not really expanding your internal memory.. it's just a really cool work around. You'll want to make sure you have a fast sdcard, I'm using a class 10 32Gb card and life is good again.

I tried CM7, but with it GPS does not work.

If you've made it this far, getting CM7 on there, then getting the GPS working again shouldn't be too much trouble. At this point you might want to consider flashing a new kernel. I switched to 2.6.38.8 Tiamat_N1-v4.1.0, mostly because the stock kernel in CM7 had low in-call audio volume for me. It's working great so far and I've noticed better battery life.
Just make sure you do a nandroid backup first!!

OK, thanks, but from where I can download kernel and how can I change it?

You can find many kernels in the development section. if you are looking for Tiamat kernel look here http://tiamat-dev.com/mahimahi/

NOOB here please help

so some of these questions might be stupid ill admit it. how big of a chance is there that i brick my phone trying to root it. and if im planning to get a bigger sd card should i get it before i use my original sd card and root it. also if i ever need to how hard is it to put the phone back to sprints os. and anyone one with good advice im open ears guys.
General thread, just for future reference. As far as bricking your chances are pretty slim, just make sure not to flash a GSM radio.

rooting your phone: pretty much no chance. don't hold me to this though, if you somehow manage to do it. even if you do screw it up, the RUU(the thing that puts you back to sprint's os) can easily be run from a computer and it'll pretty much fix your phone.
most important thing: NEVER flash a gsm radio. those things will really mess up your phone because it'll never turn on after you do that.
about the sdcard... it shouldn't really matter which one you use unless you're using apps2sd.
Hey thanks what about the micro sd card thing

With sd cards, there is a 'class' number. The higher number you have, the better it is. I'd go with class 6 or higher. And if you just stay in the CDMA forum, you shouldn't have any problems. Just don't flash any roms or radios that dont mention CDMA
Once again you rock bro thanks I was gonna use the steps that were posted under the rooting cdma hero for Windows does that one look like it would be good for someone like me to follow

Fresh2.0http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643034 or Damage Controlhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656690
I prefer fresh rom
Basically it's just trial and error. It's pretty easy to flashthe ROM's so you can keep changing them until you find something you like..
When you flash any ROM you will usually need to wipe your phone and this will cause anything not backed up will be lost. i make sure I save all contacts as a google type. That way when you flash a new ROM and you sign into google again all your contacts will be restored. There are several apps in the market to back up apps you have downloaded.
But before you do that, boot into recovery...hold down home and power to turn on the phone and do a nandroid. Then mount your sdcard and save the files inside the nandroid folder on your sdcard to your computer. This should be your nandroid of the original 1.5 ROM.
on the roms when it says to save to root folder is that the same as the nandroid folder cause when i mount my sd there is no folder that labeled root
ha im retarted didnt read it good enough you answered that already. on my contacts list if the person has google next to there name does that mean is saved to google and where on google can i see them. i wasnt told or shown anything when i got this phone im sure this stuff is basic
heres a question: If I were to root and do a custom ROM, how assured am I that when sprint releases 2.1, I can do that upgrade?

Next Step For Nexus One

I've had my Nexus One a couple of years and there's not really anything out there I really fancy at the moment.
Therefore, to give it a new lease of life, I really need to get more free space.
I'm running 2.3.6 straight from Google at the moment on a rooted device to cut down on network bloatware.
However, in the UK there's lots of apps we can't use and I don't want to use, such as Voice, Music, Books, Facebook... but these can't be uninstalled.
So what are my options? Do I run a custom rom? Is there a rom that allows me to remove the built in apps?
Any helps or suggestions welcome.
Cyanogenmod
One word, Cyanogenmod.
I'm shocked your phone is rooted and you haven't flashed it by now. If you can get a fresh battery for your nexie, you will not "need" an upgrade for another year at least.
Rom Manager from the market will also make everything go a lot smoother. Also, watch a few YouTube videos to speed things up a bit on your end.
Josh-
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/nexus-one
Since you have already rooted you can easily uninstall your apps like facebook, books by using "root uninstaller".which is available for free in the play store
Use app 2 sd to move apps to sd card
Google's stock rom is bugless but u can add a taste to ur nexus one by flashing custom roms like cyanogen mod, sense roms
if u just want to remove those bloatwares but still stay on stock rom, u can use titanium backup to remove those unwanted apps.
imho there are plenty of roms (even stock based) that are rock stable and more efficient than stock.
i suppose ur warranty shd hv finished and there wont be official ics, then wats the point in staying wid stock. ( jus my 2 cents )

OK, I've decided to take this route, but I'm missing the basics, as I can't seem to get the fastboot to work following this guide to install a custom recovery image.
I keep getting 'fastboot not a recognised command'?
I'm probably doing something really stupid, but I don't know what?
FYI - Running Windows 7 if that makes a difference?
Ignore me, sorted that bit now, so onwards I go...
Managed to get it all up and running, but had to go through installing the app from the market, as the startup option didn't seem to work. I'd select something, but it wouldn't actually do anything!?
So now I've got it installed, are there any key things about Cyanogenmod that I should setup, enable, install etc to get the best from it?
cyanogen doesnt include gapps
by default. u have to flash it seperately. flash the correct gapps provided along with the rom

I installed gapps afterwards without a problem, it was Clockwork I was having issues with, but got around that.
Had a little play earlier today and all seems to be going well with a more space.
More tweaking this evening

[Q] Frozen Launcher Nexus one, now wont boot.

Hi all
This is my first post so please excuse my ignorance and point me in the right direction if I'm in the wrong area. I will try to be as clear as possible.
I have a stock N1 At&T unlocked....
I kept running out of memory (low mem warning) so I rooted my phone.
Using App2sd I moved as many as my apps to sd card ...problem solved.
In an attempt to perhaps gain quicker boots I froze a few apps including the stock launcher as I was using go launcher.. No issues or problems.
However... My problem came when I moved Go launcher to the sd card to gain space....
Now the phone wont boot , it just continually shows the animated "x" nexus logo.
My reasoning is, now the phone cant load the "frozen" stock launcher and cant find Go launcher for booting on the sd card , so It's stuck in a searching cycle.
Question.. Is there a non destructive way to recover from this? I have TiTanium Bkup free which I backed up 2 days ago.
If I do a "recovery" will it un root my phone and unfreeze my apps?
Can I unfreeze my stock launcher from boot mode?
I can seem to find any thread that comes close apart from doing a recovery
I thank you all in advance for your time and your patience in this matter..
I would love your help and advice.
Just flash your ROM again without doing a full wipe. Reinstall apps2sd. All your apps and data should be still there.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA
Thank you
Thank you cpm !!
Again excusing my ignorance....
When you mean "flash" do you mean to use the restore feature on power up?
My next step after this was to flash a CM9 ics rom for a N1 I see U are using one... are there any issues ? could you give me the link?
Again many thanks for you assistance.... much appreciated
I will let you know how it goes
If you want CM9 then look at BCM ROM in the Dev forum. You can download it there.
Only thing not working is video camera. You can take pics, but not video. Might be sorted over time. Otherwise a very stable ROM.
Note you'll also have to install Blackrose to repartition your phone.

Titanium back up question....Storage!!

hey
ive been told when using titaium to backup all apps and system data but when it comes to restoring it all, that it should be installed as apps and data only,is that corrent?
Okay i have a external sd card which is only like 3gb, now when you flash roms etc and have to restore stuff back, what exactly is Titanium backing up? is it backing every single thing except the sd card? will all my data within apps remain when i restore? so all my photos, icons, bookmarks etc etc
iam so confused as the app does not specify things in catogories.
cheers.

Even it remains untouched on internal SD card, it won't erase during wiping cache, wiping data (except you specifically select to format USB storage), Flashing.

TB can even backup your contacts/call history, data usage and many others too, all you have to do is to backup particular app and while restoring, just restore "data only". I have tried it for same ROM version, not sure if it will work inter ROM as well

hey jeetu! lol
you now ive still not flashed rom cause each time i see insructions, someone says somethin different lol. although you guys in this thread have always helped me.
ive had a go with gobackup pro and it really does everything, like contacts and bookmarks, your pictures, music, whatever you select it will back up. now that ive learned that my internal sd and ex sd will not be touched, iam not so paronoid about leaving everything in my internal sd as ive got over 10gb of space their. i just thought once ive backed up, ill have to move everything to ex sd due to me doing wipes and flashing roms, it would all be removed LOL.
BUT i do have a question, when i go into settings and click into storage, under internal storage it says ive got over 649mb of apps installed, now under internal sd it says 423mb. NOW is the apps installed under internal just all the system apps that come with the rom? and is this what will be removed when i do the full wipe etc?

Hey!!
One is system ROM it should be around 900 MB in total and almost consumed unless you remove some apps from system, this space is used by system apps included in the ROM and will stay even if you wipe the device. (you cannot see this in settings, use TB for it)
The one you are talking about is Internal storage (aroung 2 GB) and is used for apps you download from play store or from SD card. These apps will be removed with wipe.
Okayyyy I think I get it now lol...but both the SD storages will stay? They better lol
R u still on stock rom and if so why are you not flashing roms? Always wondered

Yes, SD cards will not be wiped with flashing unless you choose to wipe/format SD cards as Dr.Ketan said. I change ROMS very frequently, tried almost all available custom roms for Note in first 5-10 days . As of now I am using modified version of stock ROM. I have replaced lots of stock apps with modified ones (thanks to the Devs), so no need of custom ROM, but planning to try CM10 soon.
Ha ha ha, i am doing this since long, just difference is never tried custom ROM still.

So what are the best Rome to try??? Rocketrom v10 seems good and that criskelo one but will I loose all system apps? Also can I use netcore v13 with both Roms if I choose to try both of them...or do I need abyess kernal?
I don't like the look of the stock launcher icons in TW so I guess ill have to change launchers unless I can find a rom where I can change my icons and stuff

Both of these Roms are good and include almost all stock apps, you can use Notecore with them, no need to flash Abyss kernel. You can use Go launcher EX if you don't like the icons as these roms are also TW based and will have same icons .
Try CM based roms if you want to try something new.
CM roms OK I will look for v9 since 10 is not out yet. So netcore I can use with also but I must perform full wipe etc...reading all this info just makes my brain go crazy lol your truly helpful

CM10 is out but not stable yet, u can use notecore to wipe and then flash cm9 but do not flash it once you are on cm. Cm uses different kernels and will come with its own.
But better you read rom threads for flashing instructions, either with Notecore or abyss gb.

Yes it can be removed. You gotta have root though. After u rooted your phone, just download SystemApp Remover from playstore and install it. It's a paid app btw.
Try using link2sd.. it more simple..
but you must root n partition sd card before..

surprisingly, the phone still works.. left with no alternative..so was the previous post.
