[Q] 2.3.3 via ODION - KIES "This device cannot be upgraded"

Hi,
I uploaded the 2.3.3 firmware as per this post by Ramad - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901 using ODIN.
However KIES takes forever to connect to the phone if it connects at all, and gives me the following message "This device cannot be upgraded"... why dows KIES suck so much and are there any workarounds besides using ODIN?

Because you have updated to the latest firmware.
PS. I never use kies to upgrade my phone

You updated your phone through Odin using stock rom .
Kies does not work with stock roms it works with the network supplied roms .
Buy a O2 phone it has O2 firmware use Kies and it reads O2 product code hardware ID and firmware version and upgrades if their is a later firmware from O2 .
Stock rom does not match product codes hardware id and firmware codes = no upgrade .

Now that JVK is official, it can now be downloaded through Kies (yep you heard it right) reconnect again your phone and check the message. Last night I get that message. Now the message is "This is the latest firmware", it means Kies now recognize my F/W firmware and hence available for download
EDIT: I updated through ODIN a couple of months ago, was one of the first who flashed GB. Kies can still recognize my firmware

Well KIES is now recognizing my phone... after i rebooted my laptop. So i guess if someone is having problem, reboot your laptop and reconnect with KIES.

[Q] Can't update via Kies - i've done my reading

I'm helping out a friend, and we are having some troubles being able to update via Kies.
In Kies, the firmware is listed as: (blank field/none)
And we get the message "no update available"
1. USB debugging is disabled (tried enabling)
2. Tried editing Regedit

Nothing seems to work. Are the any edits in the above shown tutorials which could lead to succes?
It has taking quite a lot of time and searching and googling, and we are close to giving up. We are 2 android well experienced android users, one of use mobile supporter, and we can't get it to work. All of our experience combined, didn't fix the problem.
What to do?

Why do you want to upgrade via kies??? Just use Odin to go to whatever firmware you want... what are you running now?

Because the owner don't feel safe using Odin and want's the function to be working.
Running stock 2.2.1 XXJPY now
We tried flashing different ROM's via Odin

Kies updates official firmware that came with the phone .
You have flashed stock firmware Kies cannot update that .
Only update path is now via Odin .
You can try spoof firmware to correct product details .

Other question is are you trying to upgrade too a firmware that does not exist
that is 2.2.1 is the very very very latest firmware .
Gingerbread 2.3 has not been released by Samsung yet .

The problem is that the firmware field is left blank...
it doesn't recognize the firmware I guess, but it should be stock 2.2.1 and then it would be able to recognize it, but it doesn't.
Are there any known problems regarding x64 windows?
Will try the spoof, but I think it is the same as altering Regedit
Howcome, Kies can't update that stock firmware we have flashed? the system files should be the same, as of modem, PDA and so on.

Kies spoof method is your only choice .
Stock firmware from samfirmware etc is not the firmware that came with your phone so IDs do not and will not match .
Below an example of legitimate O2 UK firmware ID upgradable by Kies .
Replace that with stock and codes change and fail to match anything on the server .
KIES does not recognize stock firmware .
Stock is not what comes with the phone .

[Q] unable to uprgade firmware with kies

hey guys,
im using roto's rom for 1 month now, but when im connecting with kies
i get the message that my version can't get updated.
i think the problem is my csc.
PDA: JMI
PHONE: JMA
CSC: JMG (KOR)
i don't know if KOR stands for korea, i guess.
but is there a way that i can get back to stock CSC?
im using the SGT: P1000 euro model.

Just flash a stock rom via Odin and you're good. Then connect to PC and update with Kies.

I've downloaded the latest euro firmware from samfirmware dot com and after the installation, my tab is at stock rom with the PHN csc code, this is the one that i needed for the dutch country and im able to receive update's trough kies.
Only kies is showing u have the latest firmware already, thats okey.
But im sure when 2.3 GingGerbread comes i'm able to get it with kies.

[Q] Kies Update only in region of GT?

Let me get this straight- Kies can only update Galaxy Tab Firmware if it matches the region of the previous firmware with the region where you are at present?
-I mean if I bought my GT in Hongkong and bring it to Dubai I have to go to hongkong to use Kies to update?

i believe it checks your tab's current configuration of the firmware via PDA PHONE CSC versions. if it matches a configuration found on the server it checks this if its the latest firmware for that said configuration if not you will be prompted with an update notice. if your configuration cannot be found on the server you would get a notice "tab version cannot be upgraded" or something along those lines. i think this is regardless of geographical location.

Does it mean that there is a record in Samsung server of the fw that is associated with my GT when it left the factory?

i don't think so. it just checks for the proper firmware configuration.

If so then how come Kies states that the stock Italian GB cannot be updated? It should instead state that it is the latest......
In another post you stated that the DX firmware you installed was recognized by Kies as the latest firmware.I am assuming you are in the Philippines. If I flash this fw on my tab will it still be recognized by Kies as latest even if I am in the Middle East?

way back when i tried taiwan rom P1000ZTKC1, kies was able to detect it as official though...

But AFAIK, Taiwan is in the far east so in the same region.
Ahh well, weekend for us here, I might try out to flash the DX firmware later. Thanks for patiently answering.
I do not like to flash/update to the Arabic fw though-I don't read arabic and also not a Muslim so I don't need the Quran , Qibla direction and the prayer times.
BTW, what is the difference between the DX and the Italian GB?

I tried the dx fw and was able to boot successfuly.noticed the extra icon on the home screen-I think it was readrs hub cant recall now. But when I issued *#1234# i only got.the phone part.pda and csc were blank. Of course kies will not see the fw if blanks so I reflashed with the same result-BLANK PDA ,CSC.
At this point I made a decision to give my tab abreak and reflashed to the latest Arabic fw JM5. The process was succesful and Kies saw the fw as the latest. This reinforced my suspicion either the tab is registered with samsung to have arabic fw when it left factory OR that Kies will only update if the tab is within the region.
No rom flashing for me for now. Thanks for replies.

try flashing to xxpq1 first then to dxjpc...
i was having that error with *#1234# when i manually updated through odin

Yes I thought of the csc file you gave me. There is another issue, when I rooted using CF ROOT my dx fw and rebooted the sound which plays about same time as the samsung logo plays about few seconds AFTER the samsung logo disappears. So there was an issue I cant see. This happened also the second time I flashed.
I will wait for the official JM5 update thru Kies and rest my tab for the moment from the stress of flashing.

To put this at rest. It happens via CSC. Sammy doesnt care where you are located. CSC is Country Specific Code. Kies checks phone pda and csc to check the device has an official untouched firmwarr. Then checks the server against the CSC for instance if its ITV italy. It will find the GB update and roll it out.

Then how come when I flashed italian gb fw with itv or xeu csc kies says that it cannot be upgraded? Maybe I the stock fw from xda is not official?
Then the froyo I got from samfirmware happens to be official?
Samfirmware also does not guarantee kies will recognize the fw they provide.

Simple. Sammy pulled out the italian firmware I know what I am talking about. My tab updated numerous times from jj4 to jk5 to jmg with DBT CSC since i got the tab from germany.

Ah ok. Thanks for the explaination. Now only the Asian dx gb fw is official, according to noxxious info.

here in malaysia ( ASIA ) no update via kies or samsung , only for the galaxy S via samsung , samsung announcment that in their facebook to visit them for the update for Galaxy S users

I can now conclude that region where I am in now does not affect Kies. I have since updated my tab to the latest Asian GB even if I am in the Middle East!

Unable to upgrade firmware via Kies after flashing to stock rom

I flashed my SGS to CM7 and don't really like it. I have downloaded the firmware ( I9000DXJF4 )from sammobile and flashed it. However, I am unable to upgrade the firmware using Kies to the new firmware available thru Samsung.
My current version is as followed
PDA: I9000DXJF4
PHONE: I9000DXJF4
CSC: I9000OLBJF4
From the look of my phone, everything seem to be back to its original setting, with all the singtel (my telco provider ) apps. Now I am trying to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 (I think) using Kies. Kies prompted that it is unable to update the firmware. I tried the latest version of kies and also version 1.5. Both are unable to do so.
Anyone can kindly advise?

Try changing your CSC code to XEU. I encountered some issues with KIES updates when having CSC code KOR.

Thanks for your help. I got my IMEI code. It pop up in a small window. Then I tried to change the CSC using the method u mentioned. But nothing happen. When I press the call button, it say "USSD code running..." then follow by "UNKNOWN APPLICATION"
I also tried to install the software, but it is only for android 2.2 and above. I tried to find the crack version for the premium version but cant find any. Do you have the premium version? Can upload to mediafire and send me the link?

Never try to install via KIES ..
Install via ODIN the Firmware you want it's simply better, even if ODIN is unofficial.
Introductions you will find by googleing I think .. it's easy.

Ya, using Odin now. But still prefer Kies over Odin. A lot of stuff become automatic with Kies.
I just flash to DXJG4 hoping to be able to link to kies but it failed.
I read that once the lagfix is fixed, there will be problem with kies. Am I fixing the lagfix in anyway thus leading to this problem?

Did you get solution to your problem? I had the same problem with a Galaxy Wonder... when i tried to upgrade via kies i got this screen..
That I cannot post actually because the forum prevents me from doing it...
BUT...
I tried OTA upgrade with perfect results... And the funny thing is that I NEVER before could start OTA...
BTW everything's fine now and I bumped to 2.3.6 ggbrd

You can download all the recent firmware from sammobile and you can flash it via odin. Flashing stock ROM via Odin
