[Q] 3g/2g Data Connection problem - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't known what happening with my phone, everytime I enable data it doesn't connect immediately to internet (3g/2g), I need to enable/disable airplane mode to get internet works.
It's sucks, I don't known If it's rom, phone, network related issue. I'm thinking to sell this phone just because this. It's really bother me.
Is there any way to known how to causing this, or any workaround for this?

Just don't use that particular miui. Use another stable rom. MIUI always has new betas with buggs. Normally u could just update, but they stopped supporting Gingerbread roms. Or downgrade.

[Q] Wi-Fi To 3G

Hi,
Got a really annoying issue with my Nexus One that has been happening since the Froyo days, when I leave home to go to work I turn the Wi-Fi off on my phone to save battery. Sometimes I use the widget sometimes I go through the settings.
The problem is that the 3G doesn't alway's kick in, the only way for me to get 3G working is to turn my phone off and on which always works.
Any suggestions on why this is happening and how to resolve them?
I am running Stock Ginger Bread on my Nexus One on the the Vodafone network in the UK.
Try checking your signal strength: *#*#4636#*#*
You can try to enable 3G only and see if you can keep a signal.
My signal is sometimes intermittent due to topography. Stupid flat Ohio. Haha

Thanks, it won't be that though because once I turn the phone off then back on it's there. Also once I turn W-Fi off and 3G doesn't kick in, then it won't do untill I restart. Also another reason why I know this isn't the case is because even when I do this at work 3G doesn't kick in and there is a Vodafone 3G mast on the roof
never seen this problem before, but it sounds like something that might have to be fixed by doing a full wipe and reflashing your ROM. i know its drastic, so maybe do a nand backup first. then flash and see if the problem remains. if its still there, than just go right back to your backup and no harm and nothing lost. worth a shot.

I'm on a stock Nexus One unrooted so I shouldn't have to Root to fix an Android problem. Never Rooted before but considering it.
I got the exact same problem with Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs, can't remember if I had that issue with MIUI ROMs, but definitely with CyanogenMod ROMs.
Instead of rebooting the phone I suggest switching flight mode on/off it's faster than a full reboot
Haven't found any real solution yet and always thought I'm teh only one with that problem as I couldn't find any other person with that issue. Right now I'm testing different Radio/ROM combination and if that doesn't work I'll need to check if any app is causing the problem.
Any chance you are using Tasker?

I used to use Tasker but uninstalled it when I thought that it was causing this, it wasn't. Thanks for the tip about airplane mode, worked a treat.

Connection drops when switching off wifi

Here is the deal,
Phone worked pretty well since I bought it. I changed the ROM a couple of times and everything went fine.
But at some point, something changed and when now I switch off the wifi, the data connection doesn't work anymore. Also, as other users complain, it occurs when the phone enters in sleep mode.
Entering in Airplane Mode and exiting seems to solve the issue. Also, switching from 2G to 3G (and viceversa).
Things that might help:
I did some research and it seems strongly related to the Android 2207 Issue (you can google it, I can't post external links yet sorry)
It happens with every ROM that I try: CyanogenMod, MoDaCo and now with MIUI.
Also, it happens with BB 622 & 725 (with respective RILs). With 502 I don't remember having this problem, I would try again.
If someone else has this problem, share it with us. And if anybody knows how to solve it, it would be great
Thanks!

[Q] Completely Disable Radio

Hello all,
I have an old Samsung Captivate laying around that I have turned into a media center remote control. There is no SIM card in the device and there likely never will be in the future. I have loaded Slim ICS (gotta love ICS!) on it and it runs great, but what I would like to do is COMPLETELY disable the cellular radio. I have no need for it and I know that having the radio active, even if it is not connected to an AT&T network, is still draining battery slightly. I want to know if there is some modem out there that I can flash that will be able to shut the cellular radio off totally, or at least give me the option to turn it off. I know this may sound dumb, but please bear with me. I basically just want to eliminate unnecessary hardware. I would also like a way to physically disable GPS if possible, but that's another topic for another day.
Thanks in advance to anyone who even takes the time to read this thread
-Steve
You can use airplane mode.
Or can't you just delete the modem?
Sent from my ICS Samsung Captivate
Here is a ROM that was the same idea.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093696
A guy on the last page says he just uses TiBu to freeze all the MMS and Phone stuff in Sliim ICS.
Just deleting modem will probably disable the wifi. That rom listed above had the basic idea. You could just use airplane mode and have working wifi.

Wi-Fi poblem in JB ROMS

After the wifi fix ( thanks to all devs who worked hard for that ) I am able to connect to my wifi.
But the problem is, I am not able to access my internet. The problem is the same for all JB ROMS(CM 10, miui v5). All I get is short bursts of access to internet during which webpage loads for a bit and just sticks there. Can't access the playstore too. It just gets stuck at signing in.
My wi-fi is good as I am using the same on my laptop.
Can't seem to figure out what the problem is and am sadly stuck on ICS.
Any help would be great...

That's what confuses me...How come is it only me having this problem..
I have tried flashing the ROM for 4-5 times now but each time it's the same...
Have tried doing complete wipe, with and without wiping /system, tried both prometheus and NOPE kernels but the problem persists.
And its the same for cm10 and MIUI v5...haven't tried any other JB based ROMS.
Maybe i shall try to turn off security in my wifi..(can that by any chance be causing it??)
Tunring off wifi security can only cause people freeloading on your wifi. I dont know about the problem.
You could turn off password authentication and filter by MAC address, just to be safe and be able to test at the same time. Although, I had no problems on connecting to secure networks. There is an authentication problem on reconnect, though.
Finally solved..
Got my wi-fi to work finally....
The problem apparently was with encryption....got an idea from this HOX thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989203
I earlier used to have a AES+TKIP encryption with WPA-PSK authentication....changing network authentication mode to OPEN made it work instantly.
But open connection = freeloaders...so tried a combination of WPA-PSK and TKIP and it worked too...haven't checked it with AES...
Finally wi-fi is working...
Thanks to everyone who tried to help out....i really appreciate it...

Further the wifi now disconnects only if no wifi related task is continuing and the phones locks up.
If a download is going on, it continues even after phone gets locked.
Just thought I should share that...
EDIT: airplane mode trick + wifi keep alive app (kudos to webhijacker for finding it out) does solve the Wi-fi issues..

Your model is a d400, d400h or d400hn?. I have the same problem with the wifi
If going back to stock it is still the same after a factory reset (deletes all data, backup first) and with different routes then it's a hardware issue, no matter what model you have.
My sollution
My problem was an update and restore the last version lol
