Installed the official ICS rom, rooted, but I cant get used to the 320 DPI it has, tried to change it with DPI Changer but my note won't restart and keep stuck in the Samsung logo, is there a safe way to do it?
Use ROM Toolbox or do it manually
u can use root explorer/root browser under system/build.prop
long press, open in text editor, search for lcd density. edit both of them...
I changed it manually with root explorer and worked like a charm

If you're asking about how to do it manually:
Use a file explorer app with root privileges like Root Explorer and navigate to /system/buil.prop, long-press on it and choose open in text editor
Search for a line that reads:
ro.sf.lcd_density=320
Change that value to what you wish, don't go too low or you might end up with a bootloop

I did it using ROMToolbox 220 DPI
Hi guys, i managed to change the DPI of official ICS using ROMToolbox 220 DPI. OOh and im using apex launcher btw. Here's the screenshot
postimage.org/image/6bl219ezh/
Where to find the 240 DPI version of S-Memo (ICS version)
Yepp, I can confirm: 240 DPI works great, changed using ROM Toolbox!
Now the question is: Is there a working 240 DPI version of the new (!) S-Memo anywhere here on the board? I can just find the old one from GB...

Does any kind soul mind doing a 280dpi version? My old eyes cannot cope with 240...
What's the purpose of changing the DPI?
I just want to ask if what's the purpose of changing the DPI?
What DPI is the most ideal for Samsung Galaxy Note?
Thanks.

i tried 280, and it works well.
dived to 210 dpi, not softkey like in CM9 and loads of UI crashed message. guess the key is part of the status bar with touchwiz even I am on apex launch. guess we need to get a port from the galaxy tabs :/
yeah i tried to change to 240 and am now stuck at the start up screen
Is there anyway I can repair without redownloading the ROM? The ROM is on my internal SD as I used Mobile Odin?
Any help would be great

Have you tried pulling your battery for 10 seconds and reboot your device?
I've tried 240 dpi, stuck on start up, pulled the batt for 10 secs, reboot device, waited until it boots up. Try that

Made this for people who use custom DPI like myself
I set 240 threw the market app so you wont get incompatibly issues with apps
for anyone interested on how to do this i followed instructions here
everything so far so good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20624277&postcount=13
install like normal .apk
removed link
stopped working
also if you have issues down the line
go to
settings/apps/google play store
force stop, clear data and should be all set
Cool, thanks for this.

There is simple method:
1. Rename MarketUpdater.apk in \system\app\ to MarketUpdater.ap
2. Replace Phonesky.apk with the attached one
3. Done
Tried it but hasn't made a difference. Is there a step missing? Have rebooted phone but still same.

I found that the modded file is not necessary.
Follow these steps:
1. Upgrade Market to latest version
2. Make the Market function normal with default DPI
3. Rename MarketUpdater.apk to MarketUpdater.ap
4. Change to any DPI you want
5. Done
This works to me.

Hmm still having problems with some apps like "Dead space", "Need for speed hot pursuit", "Froad" (all in the 49p deal section) saying "Your device isn't compatible with this item".
Other apps which were saying this but worked at 240dpi are ok though, not sure what the problem is here....

How long have u had this going this work also with old market but temporary even with renamed updater or freezing with titanium backup
that's why spoofing the market app to desired DPI was necessary
anyways the market you posted works so far

When you say the "file" you mean the image or the apk? Because I don't think apks for ICS can work on a phone with GB. :S
I want it to look like this....
There is a tutorial here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494271
But it is for Galaxy Ace so I don't think it would fit on my screen.... Please help me, is the only thing i need to make my phone look 100% ICS.
EDIT: Actually I check on google and I noticed Galaxy Ace's screen is HVGA too.... (320x480) Let me try this to see if it works... Thanks anyway
EDIT 2: It doesn't work... after applying it it reboots and then i have a bootloop. Any way to make this work? Please help!

What you mean by "dpi"?
My phone is a Live with walkman (320x480) resolution so this images posted on the thread have to work on my phone.
Here is what I did:
Installed Ninjamorph
Copy framework-res.apk to SD.
Open apk with Ninjamorph.
Replace png files posted in the thread I just mention before.
Finish project
Replace original framework-res.apk with the new one (new pngs) with the right permissions.
And that`s it. But it doesn't work.

firstly tell do you have root
if so then go to /system there you will find a build.prop named file open it with the help of any text editor which supports root
then search for the line something like ro.sf.lcd_density and change the number according to your liking

Yes, there is, but they doesn't work for me, so I used es explorer then I went to /system and opened build.prop with an editor and looked for
# density in DPI of the LCD of this board. This is used to scale the UI
# appropriately. If this property is not defined, the default value is 160 dpi.

I can't locate / folder too with cm file explorer, so I downloaded es file explorer. I don't know if the build editor works only on pro version of rom toolbox (I have the pro version, of course).
For open / folder you have to open es menu, then select "Local" and then tap / icon. Es will ask you for root, then open system folder and look for build.prop file and edit it.
Well I use the BuildProp Editor from the PlayStore to change the dpi
