Every once in awhile my texts will seem to get lost in space and not arrive at my recipients phone for sometimes a few minutes, but sometimes hours after I've sent it. It *seems* to happen more at night, but that could be because I only get into longer texting conversations at night. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I'm still trying to figure out whether it's a problem with my ROM, my radio, my phone or AT&T.
Has anyone had any problems like this? I'm hoping it's AT&T since I've used many different ROMs, radios and recently got my phone replaced under warranty, but I'd still like to find out.
i doubt this has anything to do with the phone itself and more the network you are on...
You can always update your roaming settings with *662 on ATT I think that helped my problem with MMS getting sent in a timely manner

Could you elaborate on this? Do I just dial *662 ?
Its the network, and believe me its being worked on.
Im not sure its *662... Any ATT store should be able to tell you...
KD8DNS- You know its the network? Is it just an ATT thing?

Its a ATT situation that is being worked out. You dont have to believe what I say, but you can take it to the bank.
KD8DNS is 100% right I have already talked to AT&T about this and it's not your PDA I've had the same problem with my Razr and several other phones. Every so often I will have a delay in voicemails arriving as well but not real often.
same problem here too. hopefully they work it out soon

They are, I see it first hand.
KD8DNS I believe you 100%, but I'm of course obligated to ask the question-- how well is it being worked on? As in, when can people stop yelling at me for responding like 3 hours late to their texts?

1. The tech's are most likely upgrading a tower around you or building one, when I say upgrading I mean 3G. Now when this is done they have to intergrate the new tower/technology into the network so the "hand-off" works. Usually the tower/towers in the area have certain features shut off so network intergration goes without fail. This can take time, and usually takes place at night when there is less network activity. Also the time the features of the tower are shut off like sms, they are being received by the tower and stored, then when the tower is turned back on they get sent.
2. "how well is it being worked on?" I wouldn't have a job if it wasn't
3. Just tell the people what is going on. As for anything that is being developed or upgraded, there is an initial downside.
met3ora-----pm me the city you live/use your phone and ill find out whats going on.
Well, that would explain it pretty nicely and I'm actually kinda mad I didn't think of it! I go to Purdue University, so out here in West Lafayette, Indiana we got 3G pretty recently, I wanna say maybe 3 weeks ago. I really hope AT&T hurries up and gets the towers working correctly (not to yell at you, of course KD8DNS). But the thing that worried me was that I was in Chicago and I was still having this problem. My friends would tell me they only received page 1 of 2 of my texts, some would come through later and some would come throug on time.
I live in Phoenix and have 3G just about everywhere in town no problem, but this explains weird SMS problems at night
when I was in the US last week, I had to use the AT&T network and holy ****, the delays in the messages were horrible. Sometimes my wife wouldn't get them for hours....When I changed it to T-Mobile, at least she got them within a minutes or two...Don't know what carrier I am going to use when I come back to the US....
The other option is try a new sim card, i know it sounds like the typical att b.s. story, but it could help, any ATT corporate store will do this free of charge. Also if you go into a new area like another state. Try resetting your device "power cycle" that will d/l all the up to date provisioning from the tower to your device.
The other idea i just had, is you might have the wrong sms gateway number, this you would have to call att for because there are thousands of them and they are area specific.

Does the gateway matter for both receiving and sending? Here in Central KY SMS are 15m-2h delayed every time for weeks now. We have had 3G for about a year, maybe HSUPA is in the works.

Typically just receive. Also att has been upgrading the "short code" network witch also has a major part to do with send/receive txt mess. I would really suggest anyone with this problem get a new sim card.
Since getting my Droid 4, I've had issues with not receiving texts, and sending texts but the recipient telling me they never received it. Upon calling VZW TS, I was told its something on the other person's end as their system isn't registering my texts at all. Given that it is consistently happening with only me and random other people, the problem has to be happening on my end. They've replaced the phone three times at this point, so it isn't a phone issue. I tried using GhostlySMS to make sure it wasn't the old SMS bug, but if the texts aren't even registering in VZW's system, I'm not sure why that would have worked--just shooting in the dark. Any thoughts?
I recommend requesting a replacement SIM card. I had some 4G connection issues and that solved them. The card if free from a VZW coorporate store or customer service, but some retail stores may charge $10.
This may or may not help you but -- something similar happened to my brother, on his old Droid X. The culprit? He had synced with Facebook, which added a '1' before a few phone numbers. The 1 stopped the texts from going through.
That was a REAL PITA to troubleshoot, because one of the people who couldn't get texts was me, and we don't live in the same geographic location
-I will keep this pretty simple because I was going insane over the last 2 days with my brand new HTC ONE acting sporadic on the network.
-On select models of Sprints HTC ONE there is a incompatibility update with Airaves latest push update especially texts and SMS. This issue could effect Samsung Galaxy Note II.
-Problems are as follows; not receiving calls, texts, mass floods of texts of the same message, and delayed texts. This will occur in out of Airave coverage range as you need to profile update depending if you have exited or entered your Airave coverage.
-This is a known Issue with versions 2.0 and 2.5 Airave boxes.
-If you have a similar issue or think your phone is not activated properly and are using an Airave device please call them at U.S. #1-866-556-7310.
-What is required is a MEID # change to your phone and a Profile update immediately there after. The tech will also update the Airave box.
-What I hope if any one else is was in my situation they can see this post and make the necessary call instead wasting 2 days of troubleshooting my phone rather than enjoying it. Also i do not work at sprint or have any affiliation with them. I am just a paying customer.
-If anyone else has experienced this problem or think they are please post if possible to get the word out.

Thanks for the links I did some searches earlier but I appreciate that. That usually happens when I can't find something I must be blind
Edit: I didn't see any mention of the MEID phone update in those threads so I will leave my Thread
Got today's update BQJA AT&T Note 8. Update completed and my phone came back fine.
After an entire day, I realized that I'm not able to make or receive calls... I'm so frustrated.
Anyone else having this issue?
Please help.
It may not be the update. My family down south has been having problems all day on AT&T. Family and friends up here in the Ohio valley area have had same problems. I think AT&T is having large-scale network problems. Didn't they have some across California last week?
why wouldnt you just call ATT and ask them to fix it for you???
AT&T just released a press update an hour ago telling everyone to restart their phones to make calls now.
I didn't get an update but I was not able to make calls so I rebooted. But now I don't have VOLTE.
Issues with towers. I work for att and have had customers coming in all day with calling problems still not sure what exactly the problem was or is.
Thanks all... As that night progressed, I did find out that it was indeed AT&T network problems nationwide. I attempted several restarts. One finally took and my phone is acting normally now.
Thanks again.
Please excuse me if this post is a bit off, this is the first time I have posted here.
I really didn't want to pony up the $1000 for the full version of the ROG Phone II, so I got the Tencent version. I didn't realize it had band compatibility issues with T-Mobile. After having the phone activated, I was told I probably wouldn't be able to get 4G or LTE on it. Not really the end of the world for me as I don't stream video and don't pay for lots of mobile data anyway.
Then I started to have some weird issues. I don't regularly receive SMS messages. If I do get them, they come hours or days late. Sometimes I get them instantaneously, but 2FA has been a real pain in the ass as those messages usually don't arrive. SMS from another phone pretty much never arrives.
I also don't receive phone calls. I will just get notified that I have a new voice mail and that's about it. Sometimes the phone calls go through, but I can't even estimate the failure rate on that one as I don't get allot of phone calls and most don't leave voicemails. I do get phone calls more often than I receive texts, but my wife did call me 11 times before see just got a hold of me via a non-sms messaging app.
As T-Mobile likes to relay heavily on VoLTE, and I know it doesn't work on this phone, I have tried taking it off of Wi-Fi just to see if I can get something to go through. I haven't been scientific about my testing, but I have yet to notice a difference on Wi-Fi or off.
I really don't know how to proceed about doing diagnostics on this phone. I really don't know enough about how SMS or Voice works to go forth and work it out. It is not beyond my ability to root my phone or proceed with using non-carrier distributed Android, I'm not just not certain I want to take that plunge without knowing more about what I have to do.
So here's my quandary:
Should I abandon the Tencent ROG Phone II and just sell it at a loss? Or should I troubleshoot this problem, and dive down the rabbit hole of custom Android, rooting my phone, attempting to get back VoLTE, actually getting updated to Android 10, and being able to use the LTE bands?
Thanks for reading this far. Do appreciate any help you can give.
