I just installed the [Stock Official ICS Firmwares] N7000XXLPY (4.0.3) mentioned elsewhere here and it works like a dream but I was wondering if that means it makes all mods null now, I like the CyanogenMod & CriskeloRom but I'm not sure if they can be used now

Cyanogen is not a mod. Its the best open source software for android.
I'm not asking this to belittle anything I'm just asking if anything can be put on the official to alter it, as in when I used GB I used to put Kingdroid Elegance over it mainly for the looks and for the JKay abilities. So is there anything that can be done to the new official or are they made void until new ones come out?

There are some mods like 15 toggles... battery percentage. Look for them in the Development section.
The visual changes are more with themes. Right now no themes have come out so you will have to wait for them. Let the development begin in full force !!
thanks for that, appreciated

Very nice. Now I know where to start messing with my Vibrant some what.
Very nice, thank you.
Thanks for the list
don't forget the best "stock like" ROM ROM - Deodexed with root, full busybox, and data2sd(update.zip)
Thanks for the list, tho
Thanks, just added!
now if only cyanogen were on that list, id root my phone right now...
Would really be nice to get all of those into the Rom Manager so they are easily found and downloaded.
Hah no kidding. Do it anyway, just being able to have root apps makes it worth it.
I agree, I would really like to see CM6 here soon.
Thanks for this, man!
+1 vote for sticky!
I'd like to thank Swype for all of my typos.
+1 vote for sticky as well
Anyone using any of these ROM's?
I personally am not. I think that the stock rom is just fine. I will wait till the official 2.2 comes out, then there will be no need for a custom rom, at least for efficiency. What I have noticed though since I rooted was the more apps I have installed to make my phone "better, faster, more battery efficient" just seemed to burn up my battery. Not sure exactly what apps were doing so but since I have deleted all of those types of apps and are using nothing now.

should i install a froyo rom before i flash cyanogenmod 7.1???
No, cm 7.1 works better when your install base is Samsung gingerbread because of the bootloaders.
P.S. you don't need to create a topic when there is already thread for Q&A regarding CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067074
okay i tried to install it on jvs 2.3.5 now the phone shows cyanogenmod icon and keeps rebooting :S
Known issue. Flash it again from recovery and it should work.
Dont forget to clear dalvik cache.

It runs great, of course.
CyanogenMod is by far my favourite ROM. I highly suggest it if you're a fan of power and awesomeness.

The very same thread u're referring to says one needs to running rooted Eclair/Froyo Bootloader.
My question is, Do i really need to Downgrade to Froyo if I'm already on stock Gingerbread?
and also, How would we know if Gingerbread bootloader becomes "safe" in future, if ever?

No need to downgrade, GB bootloaders are safe.
In the early(er) CM7 days Froyo bootloaders were needed for CM, for the last couple of months both bootloaders are supported, and GB bootloaders are preferred because of lower batt drain.
If needed you can always go back to Froyo bootloaders using Odinn/Heimdall.

Can't find a source stating this, but i'm running CM7 with GB Bootloaders. Only risk you were running installing CM7 on GB was that your external SD-Card wouldn't be recognized, and there was a Loadscreen glitch when the phone booted.
Those issues was fixed a couple months ago, so there is no problem flashing CM7 over GB Bootloaders.

Have fun flashing
Morning guys!
Yesterday I installed the Criskelo ICS ROM. I also installed the update, from v1.3 to v1.4. But when I installed this, my loved S-Planner disappeared.
So the question I have now for you is following:
How do I get my S-Planner back, or where can I download the .APK for installing it manually?
This is my first post here on XDA, so I hope that you can understand if this thread is placed on the wrong place or similar.
S-Planner not Included

Bub S-Planner is not included in this ROM as if now!! so if you want it, then you can flash some other compliant ROM.
IMHO all ICS ROM's demand high maintenance and have some functionality missing or broken.
Would suggest you to switch to any GB ROM, all are perfect for daily use and have all the functionality.
Suggestion : Rocket Rom V22
Press thanks if it helped

No need to be sorry bruv, we all start from scratch right???

Mate before you take any steps I would suggest you to do a lot of reading.....a lot !!!
If you have questions then try to use the search function!!
Rest if you dont understand anything all you gotta do is ask!!

Thanks for the encouragement!
A few month before I bought my phone I did a lot of reading about rooting and instaling ROMs. But I´m still today doing my homework about this subject.
By the way, when do I flash the Kernel, before or after the ROM itself? And do I just choose the "Install Zip from SD card" function?
first read and finalize which rom you want to install........we will take it from there then

ICS is not stable as of now. Better start with GB roms and wait a lil longer for a stable ICS leak or official build!!
My recommendation is go ahead with the rocket rom v22 and (later can flash ICS theme if u so like) as suggested by Samuel. Use the Franco Kernel 9 and BOOM you will jump in AWESOMENESS !
Search button is your another friend
Cheers!

My torrent is a deodexed but unchanged version with PhilZ Kernel (technical nearly identical to eybee's deodexed.
For the official you should use the download from sammobile.com and install it with PC Odin. Maybe there are links to torrents for this in the General forum too - but I didn't make one. You have to search there for it.
Why not use one of the new Custom Roms for XXLSZ?

mmmmmmm cuz i feel the official better, smooth and bugs-free than the custom
is that right..?
- what the difference between your rom & eybee's rom..?
& (deodexed) what that mean..?????!!!!
official roms are odexed and lot of mods cannot be applied to it. as ThaiDai said.. its almost identical

No, I will not explain every definition of a word. You are in a developer forum, so please read and search a little bit yourself.
If you do not want to do this (ok for me) then you should stay on an unrooted and odexed Rom from Samsung.
Especially when you "feel" that the official is better, smooth and bugs-free.
But then I might ask: Why do you visit a developer forum where Custom Roms are made?
Many members here use CR, so I think it is a hint that you can try yourself and maybe stability and features of these handmade Roms will convince you.
thx man....
i flashed your rom.. & it's very smooth & stable.. like (official)
thx ThaiDai..
and sorry for my opinion.. i didn't mean what you understand..

Like many others on here, I have a stock, unrooted, old su660 (new bootloader) that I would like to install CM 10.1/2 on. I have read many of the forums on here but am confused about:
1. How exactly should I root? Using this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
2. Should I do this to install? CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954903 Or should I use a newer version of CWM (and if there is one where is it)?
3. I understand Kowalski kernels is the way to go (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441519) for the Cyanogen Mod p990 nightlies (http://get.cm/?device=p990) which is the way I would like to go.
If someone could walk me through this it would be amazing :good:.
Please help! It would be great if we could get an updated sticky.
