[Q] opera mobile wont work with any ics build? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I like opera but it won't work on any ice build I try. Does any body know why?

Im guessing its because the ics roms don't have hardware acceleration ... I could be wrong.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2

The ICS CM9 ROM on DROID Hive has HW acceleration...but doesn't work with web browsers I believe. Haven't had a chance to try it since registration isn't working properly on their site.

Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully they can get that worked out soon. I knew about the acceleration problem but it doesn't seem to affect the other browsers I've tried, like dolphin, boat, etc... Sooooo I'll just have to cross my fingers.

Yes, please. (Honeycomb)

Honeycomb SDK preview is out
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/26/android-3-0-honeycomb-sdk-preview-goes-live/
Amen to that. You know - i ahve seen other phones have semi-working rom builds created from the SDK images. I am sure its just a pip dream, but damn it would be sweet if we could be working on honeycomb now....
it's possible to extract a image, but then it would be slow as hell.
not worth the trouble porting it

I dunno.. doubt it would be slower than Froyo on an SD card.
I made a zombie out of the honeycomb preview and one of the nook kernels.
Touch input doesn't work, no hardware acceleration etc.
Well then get to work dblue.....
From the nookCOLOR
If we can get the Nook Color running gingerbread that would beyond awesome, honeycomb and I might just piss myself.

I love it (and thanks for trying exactly what i was thinking of)! Sure, it isn't fully working, but it provides a TON of hope that with some work, Honeycomb can be made to work.
Once the source code is on AOSP then getting working ROMs for other platforms should be much easier. I think one of the problems we might see is driver support since the underlying kernel for Honeycomb might be different.
It does indeed run very slow so far.
Touchscreen is working now. I'll try to get the graphics acceleration running over the weekend that should help with performance.
(and I think it's stupid that I can't post or reply in the development forum without having more than 10 posts.)

If you get a bootable SD card out of this, you'd become a legend on these forums (At least in my eyes)
If you don't, you still get huge respect for getting this working on your device.

It is an effort to keep people from finding out about XDA on yahoo or something and then coming here and going into the dev section saying make it work for me...NOW!!
Which sadly happens a great deal. Seen it many times in my years around here.
I'm sure that you will appreciate it when you have less of that to deal with when you hit another few posts and can start your first thread in the dev section.
You obviously have something to contribute so just post replies to a few posts in the general section here and you will be on your way.
Looking forward to the work you have started!!
Agreed - please keep up your work, and hit up the dev section after 10 posts. I would LOVE to see work progress on honeycomb!
Awesome. I may be wrong but isn't this the first HC port?

Done. He is already working for an OEM
Damn, makes me regret returning my NC. Awesome job!

Amazing. The OEM still hasn't released Froyo and there are devs working Froyo, Ubuntu, and now Honeycomb. I didn't see Gingerbread, but I bet that has been done as well! Congrats!

[Q] n00b Questions about HoneyStreak

OK, I'm a n00b to this forum, so I can't post in the development forum yet. So I guess I'll ask here.
I have some questions about HoneyStreak.
Is everyone's screen in HoneyStreak kinda off? (See image below)
Is there a way to make the font larger?
How come everything is so tiny? (fonts and icons and everything)
What launcher should I be using with HoneyStreak?
Will a different launcher make a difference with the icon/font size?
Is the answer to all of my questions just that its a Beta release of Honeycomb, and that they are working on all of that? (or is it supposed to be like that? or did I mess up my install?)
1. Yes.
2. Yes, but you lose the HoneyComb Google Apps if you do that (you can bump the screen density up).
3. See #2.
4. Stock is probably best.
5. Not to my knowledge, but I could be wrong.
6. Yes.
Most of this has been covered in the HoneyStreak thread. I know it's a bit to read through, so I'm not annoyed; just saying you could probably find the answer to these questions and more on there if you're willing to put some time in.
Honeycomb isn't ready for primetime on the Streak 7, yet. This is more of an early beta, but it shows a lot of promise. Once AOSP drops, it ought to be significantly better (though that may not be until Ice Cream Sandwich). Keep watching.
Thanks Zandar, once again.
It is definitely a very promising beta. I can't wait until it's ready for prime time. Until then, I think I'll go back to the stock ROM, but rooted. I don't see too much advantage to StreakDroid, so I'll just wait for HoneyStreak.
That's exactly what I did. StreakDroid doesn't have functioning bluetooth, so that was a no-go for me. Try Gingerbreak for rooting stock 2.2.2; easiest root I've ever done.
I got excited when I saw a post about GingerStreak, but that's for the Streak 5. It kinda stinks having Gingerbread on my old phone and Froyo on my new tablet. LOL
I guess no one is interested in working on a Gingerbread ROM while Honeycomb is in beta. I don't blame them.
GingerBreak was an easy root. The hardest part was getting the .apk file onto the Streak and running it - which wasn't hard at all.
Another off-the-wall question for you:
How come none of the ROMs for the Streak 7 are Cyanogenmod based? I'm curious because I've gotten used to a lot of the Cyanogenmod features on my phone and I miss them on the Streak.

There aren't the devs for that, right now. There's a thread over on the Cyanogenmod forums asking for develops and even offering money for a port; no response, yet. I loved CM on my old Droid, but this device simply didn't have the dev support that the OG Droid had (not yet, anyway).

Hey Steve! Thanks for all that you do for our Streaks!! You are the man.
I do hope that recent price drops for the Streak 7 bring on some more interest. The more popular the device the more people will want to work on it.

First off, I love what you've done for the Streak 7. You're really the only one pushing the device, and I know you're also busy with the Streak 5 (and, you know, have a life and stuff, too). I'm very grateful to have you developing.
That said, you're only one man (though a very talented one). I'm pretty excited to hear that some other devs might join the team. This device has so much potential, and it would be great to see people working to unlock it.
Any other info you can share, or is it all top secret, hush-hush right now?
another noob with question
i am ordering a streak 7 from t-mobile and will have it next week. in the mean time reading this forum and ready to get on honeystreak.
Do i just follow step by step direction in DJSteve honeystreak thread? is there anything i have to do before that, like root, fastboot,....?
thanks in advance,
You'll need to root your device in order to install honeystreak.
I wouldn't mess with the SuperOneClick method of rooting. GingerBreak is the easiest method. Check the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105165
Since I don't have enough posts I wasn't allowed to post in the development Honeystreak thread (10 posts required) so I figure I'll post here.
I just installed Honeystreak RC2 and so far it's GREAT! Thanks to DJ_Steve and others who made it possible!
My question though is regarding Facebook. I'm unable to find the FB app in the Android or Amazon marketplaces. Is this an issue for anyone else?
I searched for the .apk, but could only find version 1.4, and I know it has been recently updated. Anyone have the most recent apk?
Thanks for any input!

Not to provide a non-answer, but the Android FB app sucks. I'd just use the mobile site.
No arguments there. But I do like having the FB widget on my home screen.
Also I figure I'd do my part to help point out any bugs or what-not with the RC build.
Facebook mobile shows up in rc3 and you dont need to be rooted to flash honeystreak.

If you'd just read the instructions then you wouldn't have asked your question I guess. LOL.

Facebook mobile and the official Facebook for Android app are two completely different beasts. Facebook for Android does not show up in the RC3 marketplace. I had to push it from my phone to my HoneyStreak 7. Doing that though doesn't allow it to integrate with your Gallery and therefore can't share photos and videos on Facebook via RC3 unless you use the mobile site, which has intermittent issues. I'm pretty sure I could in RC2 as I had Facebook on there working properly. That's an Issue for me since technically it's my wife's streak 7 and she uses it primarily for facebook and surfing the web... oh yeah, and Angry Birds, gotta have Angry Birds.
Bear
im wondering if the facebook app doesn exist on honeycomb. i havent got a native hc device to try it

Dolphin Spy?.

Okay so whats all this i been reading about dolphin browser that spys on the urls the user visits?
Is this true? Or just a rumor or some stupid topic someone decided to open?
anyone know?

Why don't ask this question in the according thread instead of creating a new one?
BTW: I use Opera Mobile and think it's far far better.
1. Versions 7.0 and 7.1 report the URLs that you visit to some server. After much complainnig from users, the programmers fixed this in Version 7.2. I downloaded it yesterday.
2. What is better about Opera Mobile?
Rendering performance, scrolling and zooming speed is the fastest available yet.

Would you like to see AOKP for the optimus 2x?

Well like the title says, would you like to see it happen? We already have the g2x added to the build bot and I would really like to add the o2x as well. If you don't know what AOKP is then google it. None of us in Team Kang have an o2x. If I was to start making builds to try to get them added to our build bot I would need a couple of testers to help troubleshoot issues.
As we all know there is minor issues with ICS based roms on tegra devices. I am just trying to help, if you are interested pm me. I intend on making a initial build in the next couple of days.
Please do, and fix Bugs.

There's an AOKP port already for our O2X made by Owain in the Development forum. You might wanna try there for feedbacks as it appears there are a few people using it already.

rom is quite stable and very smooth, but there are some bugs:
- reboot w/o recovery doesn't work: if you press normal reboot, smartphone goes in recovery mode
- settings-->rom control--> performance doesn't work because crash
The rom is very smooth, I also found the roblema regarding the application Rom Control> Tools> Performance.
Then performing the pinch to zoom into the gallery you can see that the Touch has some problems in the touch would need a fix.
SD Card Problem
I like the ROM for O2x so much!
But there is one big problem for me! The SD Card doesn't mount right!
So, there is no music and it can't found with player, only with explorer!
Same with my pics! Some pics are shown, but i only can see all with other
gallery app (quick pic)!

ICS Rom?

Okay, so I'm a little confused by this. After doing a lot of research on roms for the Droid 3, it seemed pretty conclusive and well known that ICS roms would never fully work on the Droid 3 because of the amount of ram it has - only 512MB. The developer said ICS was made with 1GB in mind.
However, it seems there are some ICS roms for the Captivate, which also only has 512MB, but they seem to work perfectly?
Now, am I just reading things wrong, or is this true? And if so, what would be the best ICS rom to use for the most stability?
Or do some of the ICS roms have various problems? If that's the case, is there one with basic things like Wifi, Camera, Music, etc working that others don't have working?
Thanks, and if you need clarification on my questions just ask. I'm tired and might be typing confusingly.
ICS Roms do work on the Captivate, but not without some risk...see This Thread and This Thread also .
As far as what is best or most stable or...whatever, u will just have to do some reading on ur own in the Development Forum on the several available ICS Roms there.
Preference is subjective to each individual Developer and End User.

ICS ROM works well on the Captivate, but there is a chance to ditch the internal sd. I recommend you try CyanogenMod 9 and Slim ICS. You can find them in Captivate Development Forum. Also, you can try ROM with /data on external sd and do not fear losing their internal sd. And of course will soon be a new version Jelly Bean.
Sorry for my English .

I understand that, but I don't really mean which do you personally think is best. I mean more like, do you know which ICS roms have the most working features, if there are any that don't have things like bluetooth or camera working? Or if some are known to freeze occasionally or force-close some apps?
Pretty much everything works on all of them. Some have a lot of added features and others have a minimum amount. Happy flashing.
Cappy running Slim 4.2 and Devil .98
I haven't experienced any major issues with ICS roms on my Cappy. You should be fine.
That's good to hear. Thanks all.
Same here. I installed the Team Nyx one and it's very stable and very fast.
Much faster and smoother than 2.3.5 / 2.3.6.
The only downside being there isn't much you can configure/modify.
