I rooted my Nook to CM7 a week or two ago using what was the latest stable build at the time. I also tried to install dalingrin's OC kernal so I could reamp the volume and make it louder. I have since been told that kernal won't work with the stable build that I used, only the nightlies. So, is there another way to do it? I am not really concerned with over clocking at this point. I just need to be able to hear the dang speaker.

I really would just update to the next nightly or wait a bit for 7.1 to be released. We are mostly in a feature freeze at the moment so the nightlies are stable.
If you decide to go for a nightly then I'd suggest you wait for nightly 132, which should be out tonight.

And when you get that, install the Nook Tweaks app which allows you to boost the audio.
How well does this work? I've only tried using an eq to try and boost the audio with horrible results.

As good as it gets. With my app you can actually adjust the DAC and analog gain. So you can increase the volume and increase the sound quality.
Another app to look at would be Volume+. It's free on the market, and works beautifully at making the nooks speaker loud enough to be heard.

I used one of the apps that came with cyanogenmod 7... I think you can control the "phone" volume with nook tweak... You can overall gain sound by a LOT till you blow your speakers ( I used 40% boost), but you have to reduce your lowest bass and highest treble (left most column, and right most column) in the program where you can change the bass boost and equalizer? (Starts with a D.... )
Turn off bass boost too......
Hope That helps.
Hello everyone,
I am a newcomer to the O2X world. My previous device was an Xperia X10 and having that device for a long time it was fairly easy to follow the forums and know what route to go, which rom to get or kernel, etc.. Now being introduced to Rom Manager, and this phenomenal (to me) device its like starting all over again. I flashed to CM7.1 nightly (yesterday) and the device just only seems to get better and better, although being honest, I truly loved the Music App 2.2.2 had, as well as the camera. I tinkered around a little to get those to work without any success yet.
In any event, my real question is about the kernels... running CM7.1 nightly, what is a recommended Kernel to switch to? I am not looking to overclock the device as I feel it just isn't necessary (used to the Xperia), so Im just looking to get any fixes, tweaks, been hearing about Voodoo Sound etc to just solidify the phone.. might someone be able to point me in the right direction? I had been reading the forums for days now since I got the device but still haven't found what route to go as all the features are completely new to me.
Any help would much much be appreciated! and I must add, there are mixed reviews on the O2X but my take thus far, Im completely blown away.
vorkkernel and swiftextreme
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059910 - vork
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325183 - swiftextreme
vork is good in ironing out cm and showing off large score in tests like(quantrant etc.) while
swiftextreme is very good on batterylife
but I still prefer stock cm kernel
welcome to the o2x forums btw

hi, welcome
i stick to vorkkernel(normal version), you can get app to install in market for free.
i run it on 1,2 Ghz, with sleep profile in setcpu with 816Mhz.
gives me about 35hrs battery life and great speed in everyday use.
I am on CM7 with swiftkernel, [email protected],2GHz and I am really satisfied. I get 36-48h of normal use with 3G on and the 2x runs as hell.
Only drawback from the swiftkernel: You get a wakeup delay (1 sec.) because the kernel locks the cpu down to 256MHz when the screen is off. (Which results in a higher standbytime.
Hah, I remember my X10, used to run TripNraver MIUI on that does he even still make roms?
Anyway would stick to the stock CM7 kernel if i were you, least problems with that (no SOD, BSOD etc). On vork / swift problems keep popping up (for me at least). CM7 kernel no problems
I really dont have any knowledge about kernel!! pls help me
i am using cyanogen mod 7 and i installed swiftkernel by overclocking to 1.2 ghz wont it damage my phone??? pls do reply thank you very much in advance .....

You always take a risk when overclocking. With 1.2 it's not a big risk, but there's always one.
Thank you so much!!! can you pls tell me which kernel is good for daily use ??? i am using cyanogen mod 7 ??? when i installed swiftkernel .. i realized that it was automatically overclocked to 1015??? is this fine???
Yo...
I'm using CM Nightly's, in last week I did the install the Vork Kernel, I think so good to diary use.
Now I'm using the #201 with Vork Kernel, all ok. No BSOD and others bugs.
You can use SetCPU with personal profiles.
I'm using max 1216mhz and Profile's Screen Off: max 816 min 216. All ok in this time.
Already did one week, no problems with this.
Just had problem with #202 CM, in #197 and #201 all ok.
so bro if i am running MIUI , what do i need to do to overclock it??
sill any of these kernals be good enough or is there any specific kernal for miui??
Big thanks to my friend who upgraded his phone and gave me his Atrix. BIG THANKS to my wife for giving me a quad-core CPU to upgrade our desktop (after I replaced the starter and alternator of her car) and also allowing me some time off from the kids to give me some time to build this combo. Big thanks to Blades, pershoot, koush, faux123, cyanogen, the whole Atrix-dev team and the Cyanomodgen Team, and other devs whom I might have missed , to all users of Gtabs, Transformer and Atrix for testing out my work and giving back their precious input.
WARNING: ONLY FOR ELITE TEGRAS!!!
To find out if you have an elite tegra, please flash my Elite kernel on this link

and see if you can boot your atrix and it works. If my kernel don't boot, then this combo is not for you.
Updated: 1/30/2012
1. Added some OpenGL changes in the ROM
2. Added memory tweaks in the kernel

UPDATE: 1/28/2012
Changes:
1. Played with some voltages making changes within Nvidia requirements
2. Increased overclock to 1.5 ghz (YAY!!! It's going to be pretty hot in there)
3. Increased audio bitrate for HD 1080p (since the older one had a lower bitrate)

BTW, I would like your opinion in HD 1080p recording. Thanks.
----------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------
Changes:
1. ROM changes made to optimize overclock settings. This ROM will have a maximum speed of 1.4 ghz without the use of overclocking apps. If you wish to undervolt, then you can use PimpCPU, SetCPU, CPUMaster, System Tuner and etc....
2. Modifited bitrate and FPS for 1080p video recording for better result (IMHO but your input on this will be greatly appreciated)
3. The rest is regular Cyanogen gingerbread with fingerprint mods by the dev team
Your input will be appreciated
BTW, if you like my work, please click on the donations button under my signature or

Glad to see you here. I am one of the few who had boot problems with your other kernel.... but I'm still gonna try flashing this one.
I keep a backup of my current kernel on my ext-sdcard, so I'm not worried.
Do you know what what causing the issues with some phones not booting on your kernels? I can't remember what the problem was. Is it possible to fix?

It's the same kernel so it will not boot Didn't have time to play with the kernel because I was excited in compiling cyanogen mod in my new quad core which compiled in 23 minutes (last time I tried it on my laptop which was a core duo, it took me 7 hours).
It could be a couple of reasons.
1. GPU, AVP etc where overclocked
2. Memory timings where pretty aggresive
Exact same kernel? No changes to it? (Like patching to .53 from .48)

That are some of the uv options in mv, on the faux kernel I can get the 216mhz down to 300MV so I was just wondering what I can expect from UV kernel with elite.

Obey the 100mv/step rule.
Feel like a NOOB
I was under the assumption that this was a combo and would work for either Cyanogen or a Gingerbread ROM but i can not get it to work with Wet Dream. However the ClemsynATT1.4elite works flawless.

This is a combo. Rom and Kernel. LOL.
New thread to house the custom kernel built with linaro's gcc 4.7.1 toolchain
This *should* work with any AOSP ics rom.
Just because this kernel is built with the linaro toolchain it does not mean the rom needs to be compiled in a certain way.
Download here: http://tinyw.in/gnOy
I'll add more details when i have some more time.

General question on this--is this kernel intended to be used with the nightlies in your testing folder only, or are its benefits universal? I'm a little confused by this whole toolkit thing...

Good question. This *should* work with any ics rom.
I tested this out last night (been running mamarley's kernel) and I ended up switching back for two reasons: first, this doesn't appear to have the 128MHz CPU speed - I'm not sure if that's intentional or not. And secondly, my phone apparently couldn't handle this kernel on 1113MHz - I got lots of FCs. And the rating on Nenamark was essentially the same as my baseline on other kernels.
Just some observations - and your mileage may vary! I really appreciate the fact that this is even being worked on, invisiblek.
EDIT: Totally meant AnTuTu, not Nenamark.

Great to hear feedback. Thats all im looking for here really.. It doesnt have 128mhz because its the same voltage as 245 hence no real benefit to having it. Plus some devices are unstable there. I never overclock but i can look at the voltages and maybe get 1113 stable
I can say it works on the new ICS TW rom, drains kinda fast although I think its rom related only.
I had only one reboot, got a freeze and then 10 seconds later a reboot. Its the only one I've had since reapplying new settings.
On freeze I was running SAv2 1113 Max/245 Min.
I have now lowered it to 998 and its running fine on that rom.
Other than that, its amazing.

i take this back, 128mhz is 25mV under 245mhz here
never mind
Can you clear up the linaro tool chain for me, I'm confused as to if the ROM currently utilizes it... and if so is there a certain kernel you have to use along side it. Sorry if that's a stupid question...

add smb329.c for fast charging when plugged into usb

Q&A for [KERNEL]Forest-CM11 (V5 with OC CPU-GPU)
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Any updates?
hello i am using your kernel now for some month and it was really nice. but since some months there is no progress here. are you working on it anymore? an update would be nice after over 3 months now. I would have really some "good" additions und suggestions for the kernel. Furthermore, philz touch has a new version out. would be really nice if you could update it to the latest version. the cwm integrated to the cm11 stock kernel now is newer as the base of your last released forest kernel. Also some here have deep sleep problems. Also it would be nice if you could look for sabermod/Linaro und archi optimizations or -03 optimization of the kernel in general. thanks for your great kernel!
would be nice if you could comment short here so that your fans know that you are working on this anymore or not

For those who has deep sleep prob, should try disabling the sync. Use synker app to manually turn sync on/off.

The one that has TRIM has TRIM. The one that doesn't have TRIM doesn't have TRIM. You can choose which one to flash by searching and reading what TRIM is, understanding the risks, and then deciding whether you're willing to take on the risk or not. Simple as that.

I used v3ts until now on rr528. Since theres no b4 i switched to nightowl b4. And now Raw4 ist out that offers trim, gpu driver upd, oled oc and fpbug. I used to use forest because of cpu oc. Now that it is gone i wonder if there still is any supremacy of ur kernel that i dont see.
So what is ur problem with this question?
Why don't you just use whatever kernel you like and stop trolling?

English is not my first language so i might not see the intentions of ur answers. I dont mean to troll. I want to continue using forests kernel and was wondering what the current state in comparison to raw it is in as these are the only custom kernels available. Since this is somehow an offence to someone dont mind anserwing this anymore. Its not an issue.

A Little Request and Questions
Greetings Forest! I am a new user of XDA, so forgive me if I made mistakes in presentation or in technical accuracy.
I am currently using your Kernel with CM11, and as far as stability goes, everything is working fine, although I find myself facing instabilities using the PegasusQ governor. Looking at the governer closely through ROM toolbox lead me to realise that there a hotplug settings existent for 4 core devices, while the Galaxy Note only has 2. Is this an issue? As far as it goes, I find myself waking up to a device showing the bootanimation continuously, but very slowly and choppy, forcing me to restart the phone. Luckily I wake up on time for work via instinct. Apart from that, the phone crashes except when using ondemand. Is there any explanation for these crashes?
Now for the requests. Since ondemand is not really the best, as I have seen more responsive and effective governors like SmartAssV2, which is personally my favourite. I've also read up on Interactive being a more responsive version of ondemand, I was wondering if you could include more governors for the kernel. Unless of course, governors are limited to CPU types which I hope not, then probably this post would've been written for nothing.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Do understand that I am not in the field of programming, and I apologise if I made any mistakes. I look forward to your reply.

Thank u for investigating the bug and helpful report:good:. I am also testing with stock cm kernel using pegasusq and also got a freeze. Now i can recalled similar problem faced by Slimsaber. On the other hand, my kernel run well on omni and omni based. So there seems to be some issues with some governors but only happen in CM and CM based rom. I will try to fix or remove/add some new governors when I can.
For now should use Ondemand!
