[Q] Galaxy Note Retail Store - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys,
do you know where I can buy the galaxy note international version (preferable white color) in a retail store ?
I live in Chicago, IL.
Note: Primary, I prefer not to buy online so I can inspect for the screen quality before buying it. Secondary option is the Amazon. but if possible I hope there is still an online store that is more cheaper than what Amazon currently offers ($533 dark blue and $544 white)

Those are some pretty good prices in the US. I bought mine when it first came out and it was $730. As for the screen, you won't find a better looking screen on any device made before February.

I'm here looking for the same info as you.
I bought my last phone off of eBay.
It had problems that would have made me return it if I bought it locally, but since I would have to wait for all the shipping I just lived with the issues.
I considered buying the ATT version from BestBuy but they still want $750 for it and it doesn't have Exynos.
If the only USA option is buying online the best price I've seen is $499 + free shipping

Have either of you ever had any serious hands-on time with an N7000? The reason I ask is because I am also a resident of the United States.
I purchased my blue, 16GB, unlocked GT-N7000 on Amazon for $730 at the beginning of January this year. At the time, it was the best price I could find. However, I was making a rather big leap of faith when I purchased my Note. I had never used, touched, or even seen a Galaxy Note in person before. To make matters even worse, I was transitioning to the Note from an iPhone 4. So I was really worried that selling my iPhone would turn out to be a ginormous mistake. I had just ordered a $730 device that I had never even been in the same room with. My decision to purchase was based solely on an Engadget review, a few YouTube videos, and the generally positive customer reviews I found in a Google search. Oh, and don't even get me started on the whole PenTile RGBG debate. I was coming from a phone that pioneered the extremely high dpi display. Honestly, there wasn't much that didn't worry me.
So anyway, I obviously went ahead and ordered it. Waiting for it to arrive was nerve-racking; but after three days, it showed up. I popped that sucker out of the box, fired it up, set the language to "U.S. English" and went to town. It was the most amazing device I had ever used! The Exynos 4210 is a beast. With "Chainfire 3D" installed, the Exynos blasts through any game I can throw at it. It truly is the best mobile phone I have ever seen!
Now, the screen issue. I have to be honest about this. At extreme and uncomfortably close distances to the display, the eye is barely able to detect the nature of the display's color matrix. Under normal circumstances, ALL normal circumstnces, the PenTile RGBG disadvantages are not detectable. I believe this is due to the fact that the Note's display is 285dpi. With pixels that small, the advantages/disadvantages of PenTile RGBG versus RGB stripe begin to disappear. In my personal opinion, the Galaxy Note's display matrix isn't even worth discussing. It is absolutely beautiful! I've yet to see a phone with a display that can match it. Aside from a couple of Samsung's other offerings, like the Galxy Nexus, there is no other phone with a comparable display. As a matter of fact, I'd have to say that it's PenTile RGBG color matrix is the display's ONLY shortcoming. If it were a Super AMOLED Plus HD display, it would be absolutely perfect. Anyway, I should go ahead and wrap this up. If I don't, I'm likely to rant myself a novel.
I decided to type this lengthy review/opinion of the GT-N7000 because, like I said, I am also from the U.S. and I wish that I had been more informed when I purchased my Note. If I had been, I still would have bought the Note, I just wouldn't have nearly had a heart-attack while waiting for it. Overall, the Note is a fantastic phone. I just upgraded mine to the official, German ICS build. That's another advantage of owning the GT-N7000 and living in the U.S. People in India, for example, are physically able to install the new German ICS build. However, the German build is missing all of the region and carrier specific software and settings for them. Living in the U.S. though, there are no carrier-specific settings for me. There is no U.S. build of ANY firmware for the GT-N7000. Strictly speaking, I can install any region/carrier's build without worry. All I have to do is change the device's language to "U.S. English", setup whatever APN(s) I need, and I'm all good to go. I also have a couple of other steps to "domesticate" the GT-N7000, but they require root, so I'll leave them out of this. Anyway, the bottom line is that the GT-N7000; no matter if you purchase it through Amazon, Expansys, Negri Electronics, or somewhere else, is a fantastic device. Look for a seller with a good price and a good return policy; but I seriously doubt returning it will ever even cross your mind once you've had a chance to use it.
I hope this has been both helpful and informative.
Thank you,
Ed (Mister_Mxyzptlk)

[Q] G-note for $750 or SGSII (ATT) for $500

Guys, I need advice please.
Right now in Russia I can buy an ATT SGSII for $500, and it does not have warranty, or I can buy a Note for $750 with 1 year warranty. I can inspect both phones before buying.
So, in you opinion, which is a better buy? Is the $250 difference worth to get the Note?
Thanks

As you are in the Note section people will off course say to take the Note. I have had both and they`re both good. The big screen is really a pleasure to use while browsing, gaming and watching youtube. The S2 is smaller and easier to put in your pocket, is a bit snappier at the moment but it has had more updates than the note.
It`s hard to choose but i would go with the note, it`s getting faster and faster with every update. And the note has about 3 times the pixels the S2 has!
If you haven't had a 5" screen, hard to make a determination, but I had a Dell
Streak...hard to go back after you have a big screen.
The other thing to consider, I don't know your age, but the older you get, the better you will appreciate the LARGER screen
i've had both... Note is a better phone solely for the browsing experience

F*** AT&T!!! Regardless of whether you ultimately get a Note or an SGS2, never, never, never, (!!!)NEVER(!!!) buy a carrier subsidized device for ANY reason whatsoever!
Here's why:
[ANGRY RANT]
Ok, yes, the unlocked device will cost more up front. HOWEVER, provided you take very good care of your device, chances are, you can probably sell that device for ~$200 less than what you paid for it in about a year anyway. Seems awfully close to what you might have spent on a carrier subsidized device right?
The other thing is that you will never have to deal with carrier limitations or bloat. The AT&T version of the SGS2 will be tightly locked down and monitored. The IMEI will be in their database. AT&T has admitted to putting Carrier IQ on their devices (if you don't know what that is, I suggest you find out!), so they can basically see everything you're doing on the device right down to key presses!
If you buy an unlocked device, it's yours; you can do whatever you want to with it, and whatever the device is capable of; nothing locked down on the device by the carrier. Also, you won't have to deal with pre-installed carrier apps that you'll never use because you don't want them, because they're crap anyway, and you can't (easily) remove. Yeah you won't be dealing with any of that with an unlocked device either.
Oh yeah, and what about software updates? Carrier subsidized devices run slightly different hardware, so basically they're in a niche market; they're in their own little bubble of the world, subject to the whims of the carrier. So, while everyone else around the world (or those that bought unlocked devices) are enjoying their lovely Ice Cream Sandwiches starting in Q1 2012 (according to Samsung), you'll be stuck with the same old stale moldy Gingerbread from 2011, until MAYBE sometime towards the end of the summer of 2012, you'll get some hateful, melted, neutered, bloated, hacked up custom build of ICS designed more to meet the requirements of AT&T than to be a pleasant user experience for you...
Do you really want that? I sure as hell don't...
Basically, we consumers in America need to change this paradigm of seeing the carrier as a retail outlet. By allowing ourselves to be herded like cattle and sheep into carrier "outlets," we are locking ourselves in, and relinquishing our consumer freedom of choice, and thus inhibiting competition and innovation. More and more we see adverts for carriers (and the devices associated with those carriers), and less and less do we see advertisements from the manufacturers themselves, with no carrier affiliation whatsoever. This is sad... This is sad because the fierce competition and innovation that would otherwise draw us to one brand or another, is being lost to indirect association of a carrier instead.
Let retailers focus on selling us the devices we want, and let the carriers focus on providing us with the service we demand. No more of this "mixing church and state" if you will; that **** has GOT TO GO!!
[/ANGRY RANT]
Buy unlocked. It's just better, period.
You'll thank yourself (and me! ) for it later.
You're welcome!

I`am not on AT&T off course but i would never buy a carrier phone. Most sold phones in Holland are simlockfree (unlocked), even the carrrier phones! Carriers should take care and improve their network, not mess with phones that are payed for by their customers.

Yea, I forgot to understand that iam posting in the Note zone
Thanks for so many replies.
There are also rumors that a new SGS will be announced in February, and the Note is much newer. And sim locked devices are not an option for me.
Any mOre opinions? Thanks.
I got my Note today, and before my Note I was using the SGS2 for about 7 months. Fantastic phone (the SGS2) and much MUCH more pocketable.
If you don't mind the larger phone, you're going to be getting something very similar in specs (internally). the Note has a faster CPU, but seems a tiny bit slower due to all the pixels. Also, I've had 7 months of updates, which is different than the 1 day I've had mine and I had 2 updates to install! Regardless, I like the Note It's a keeper The screen is just GORGEOUS.
You will miss out if you don't get the Note, its every ways better than the SII.
This thread should persuade you: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406255
I think OP wants to know if it's worth spending the extra $250 on the Note. The answer lies on how you use your phone. Most Note owners use their device mostly for browsing and watching movies and for that, nothing beats the Note and definitely worth the $250 upgrade. Games are also great.
I got mine getting an Iphone 4s through a carrier ($199) then unlocking and selling on ebay for $500 more to finance my Note. I dont mind the contract since i cant lose my unlimited data plan anyway.

A damn proud Galaxy Note owner.

$250
Will get you:
1 year warranty
Bigger screen
Better battery
Cool factor (results may vary)
Responsive stylus capability
Among a lot of other points
Now don't get me wrong, the sg2 is a beautiful phone, but after I bought myself a note, I can't look at my sg2 without thinking what a little toy it is compared to this beast.
Im in Russia too and I just got the Note for 750$ a few days back. Are you in Moscow to be exact?
Just an update, I got a Motorola Razr for $600, and I am happy with it.
I wanted the Note badly, but a friend with the Note (he just got it) looks very funny, especially during business meetings, where some old guys stare at the him as if his hair are pink.
Btw, The Razr also has dark marks under the screen, visible in a dark room.

note 4 saudi users

Finally laid my hands on a white note 4 in jarir. Sadly out of stock in less than a day. Also out of stock in extra stores. I have to say a very beautiful phone my note 3 looked ugly next to it but I dont know why samsung didnt stock up there were a lot of potential buyers looking for it. Also did not notice any gap or color shift in the screen. Looks like I will have to stop fantasizing over the edge hehe.
Any saudi owners with one?
Sold out in all stores in mall of dhahran why is samsung sending limited stocks they should know itll be a huge seller here in saudi
I got one from a shop in King Fahad street with an extra SR100. He had 3 sets at that time.
I love it, I root it to change the ugly font and bought an orignal s-view cover (perfect). Now I am happy (CHEEEERS).
hi what colors do they have? will they sell the gold too? whats the name of the shop everywhere i go they have no stocks
There is more stock in almursalat in riyadh from 2800 to 3000
all of them is vietnam made
I'v got black one for my brother priced at 2750 SAR because it's opened box
I will wait for snapdragon version as it seems to have slightly better battery life
riyadh is too far. well more time for me to wait if saudi will release the note edge here or the note 4 gold lol
Great to see thread from KSA....... It is 'OUT OF STOCK' in almost all dominant sellers in KSA (i.e. Jarir/Extra/Al-Haddad etc.) but it is available in local market with little extra price. Battery preformance is excellent on Exynos version. I hope this time Exynos version will have better Android development since it is the International one and distributed on large scale throughout the world.
do the local markets sell out fast too? gold is still not making an appearance
Yep! They are.... Even some of my local friends (Saudis) have told me that executive working in jarir are selling note 4 out in local market with high rate say 100-150 SAR extra ..... And people are buying them like flies over food..he he he.... Gold version is still far away and I believe edge will also take some time. I don't why Samsung has not allocated sufficient amount of set in this region although they have a big market out here.
i think they will sell a load of gold note 4 and note edges here in saudi if samsung did their research lol
They are leader in marketing tricks by promotions and road hoarding. But should keep KSA/Gulf region in their prority list.
Just to update u guys jarir is selling the gold notes but beware coz they sell out really fast (white ones too). Even new note 3 ' s are sold out wonder why samsung is not restocking
pink note 4 available in extra
edit: just now i checked it sold out but you know now where it will be sold lol
Lulu Supermarket Khobar
Lulu supermarket Khobar
Black, white and gold available for 2699.
Made in vietnam i bought a black one..
I got my Note 4 in Jarir, Jeddah a couple months back.
I receNtly wanted to get the new Samsung Smart Watch, but the Saudis took one of the friggin cameras off it! WTF.

Good source for US 3T (A3000) without markup?

Hi folks,
I had just about finalized a decision to buy the US 3T (A3000) but then realized it wasn't available for sale from OP anymore. Looks like the usual outlets such as Amazon are selling them at a marked up price ($493 at the moment) or a bit cheaper but with no warranty (forget that).
IS there a place to get it without markup?
Or is it generally better to wait for support for the 5? Rooting / being able to mod is important to me.

I Suggest u to get Oneplus 5 with the warranty . TWRP for OP5 was released, u can use magisk to root the OP5 . OP5 has also got some custom ROM also. Initial u can use OOS its very awesome ROM, if want u can flash the custom ROM later. :good:
press the thanks button if i helped u.
Thanks for this. Looks like the 5 has slightly smaller battery than 3T which worried me. But I will look for some comparison reviews.

To add my two cents, I was in the same boat as you were. I went with the OP3T (128 GB) as I got a used (but in mint condition) one for around $390 on eBay.
Sure, I could have spent around $150 more, but my budget was a hard $400 and I just came under it and I'm happy with it. Both phones are great (at least, I assume that on the OP5 based on most reviews), and the OP3T is still quite relevant.
I like to tinker for sure, but I also need a daily driver with a little power and this is it. It's got the same CPU as my wife's Pixel XL, and her phone is fantastic. If I can get similar performance for around $250 less (hers was also used hence the smaller gap), I'm game. Maybe when OnePlus adds water and dust resistant certification, then perhaps I'll go brand new (OP7 someday?). Until then, I've realized my wallet and mind are happier with saving some money and getting damn good performance.
So check eBay for sure...you'll find a bunch of auctions for the phone. eBay Buy-It-Now listings might still be over $450 for the 128 GB though. Swappa has some as well, but the 128 GB goes over $400 there. Unless I missed it, you looking for 128 GB or 64 GB?
64 GB would be plenty. I don't carry much music around. Might go with 128GB for resale value. The 5 looks nice but I am quite concerned by the reports by some of jello effect scrolling. Seems to be controversial. Never held one in my hand so can't comment whether it would be an issue for me.
Will research while on vacation the next week or so... That delay may push me to the 5 by default as 3T gets scarcer.

I would say dont take reviews to consideration too much as they review the phone from top to bottom with standard user dont do. Jelly effect hardly visible but lets say you will not like your OP5 because of that you can always return it within return policy. Technically you are losing nothing. If I didn't buy OP3T few month ago I would get OP5 with no questions asked. Your choice of course. Also if you dont want to spend a lot of money and 64gig is enough look into Honor 8 or LG G6 it is 500$ on US T-Mobile
Used is just as good these days...

Try swappa.com, new and used phones for good pricing... In my opinion, better way to buy a new/used phone than ebay.
****, I bought my Midnight Blk 3t on there for just around $400... and of course youll still get warranty since theyre not even 1 yr old.
Thanks guys!
@emarq286, thanks for the swappa recommendation. I've bought and sold a number of phones there. A mint 3T from a rated seller goes in the low $400s, with uncertainty about warranty since I wouldn't have the original receipt. I've had mixed experiences in the past claiming warranty repairs in situations like this. I would have paid the $439 to OP, but not sure I want to pay that much for even one described as mint. I'd rather just get a 5, for a little bit more (except some jelly-related hesitation.... I probably wouldn't notice/care about the visual artifact but have some concern that the resale value of the phone down the road if this is an unfixable thing that bugs a fair number of people.
One other thing: my current phone is a G3, with a QHD display... do you think I'll dislike the somewhat lower res full HD display?

I've had several QHD phones (GS7, HTC10, still own G6), and the 1080p AMOLED of 3t/5 is still AWESOME!
In my honest opinion, only reason you should "need" QHD is for VR... AMOLED makes up for the competitive advantage that most LCD-QHD displays hold over it.
Just my take.
Having had the Moto X Pure and it's display spoiled me a tad, but the silicon (Snapdragon 808 I think) wasn't the greatest (too much lag and both my wife and I had the issue...myself much more than her), so I went back to the OPO. I noticed a difference the first few days, but after that not so much. OP3T is better obviously, and with the OP5 as well, you might see a difference compared to QHD, but it's not that big of a deal.
As for that jelly scroll...personally I've seen it and I don't like it at all. That and the cost is what sealed the deal for in getting the OP3T. Of course, you could have a different experience.
I honestly have not worried about warranty coverage on any phone as I've never ever needed it...though YMMV obviously.

Very tempted for the Best Buy offer + my birthday coupon, but is it worth it?

I got my Note 8 last year through Best Buy with Verizon, and there was a sweet promotion that pretty much rendered my Note 8 to only cost $306 by the end of my two year device payment plan. It's my main phone use of today.
About 3 weeks ago, I found someone selling a Galaxy S8+ of a few month's use with LOTS of charging accessories for only $200! I went to pick that up because it was such a steal and it would be cool to have a backup phone to say the least.
So now it's the month of August, and Best Buy awarded me a 10% off coupon on select items. Apparently, it works for the Note9! And the trade in they're offering is $450 for an S8+/Note8 towards the new Note9. So $100 off + $450 = $550 off a $1000 smartphone! And if I am able to sell the AKG headphones, this new phone is practically a few hundred dollars!
But then I'm thinking to myself...is it really worth it to switch to the Note 9 as my main? I can sell away my Note8 for extra money back in this overall "dilemma" and I'll just continue to make payments as if nothing happened because I doubt Verizon will know whether I have the phone on hand or not. lol
What do you guys think? I have until Thursday evening to jump in on this. Is this worth it for the amazing deal I've found here?
Some speculation, but the terms on the Best Buy trade-in offer mention it's via a gift card and coupon. I'm not familiar with how Best Buy applies coupons, but it could be that the two coupons might not stack if this is the case... unsure. Otherwise, I think it's a decent deal, yes.

I was on chat with a Best Buy representative last night for an hour to verify everything, and he told me to keep screenshots and come into the store to place the order while having them process the trade in so it would all work.
A Note 9 for sub $600.00 is worth it, just from a math perspective.
Here is the breakdown you provided. You paid $350(Note 8) + $200(S8+) = $550 All-in.
If you got the Note 9 it would breakdown $1000(Note 9) - ($100(coupon)-$350(S8 Trade In))=$550 for a Note 9; if you sell your Note 8 for more than $550 you profit.
If not you still win because the most you will have spent for 2 banging phones is $900.

Oh uh, the Best Buy deal only allowed one trade in device, so it would be the S8+. That phone is eligible for $450 towards the Note 9. The birthday coupon takes off 10% from the regular price, so that's $100. That's how it came to be 550 off the phone. The Note 8 could just sit with me or I can sell it either way. Hehe
Of course it's a great deal! This phone is substantially better than the Note8 in my opinion (as a Note8 user/lover), if nothing else just for the battery! Although there is a lot more I am excited about (pen with BT for photos, more storage, more RAM, new color, contrast with signature ink, improved camera, stereo speakers, etc.).
I'm not 100% sure how it works, but you may have to pay off Verizon for the Note8 though. I thought I had heard that if you try and buy a phone that has not been paid off, it won't work. In other words, you could not sell your Note8 and have the other person stick their SIM in it. I could be mistaken, but I would look into it!

Nice to hear from a fellow Note8 user. I was debating about if it is really worth it, but I would really like a fatter battery for sure!
I'm not going to do anything to hand over the Note 8 though, so passing up the S8+ is my full intentions.

I actually also have an Orchid Gray Verizon model. It is easily my favorite phone that I've ever had. The ONLY things keeping it from perfection (in my opinion) are: (1) battery size, (2) lack of stereo speakers, (3) fingerprint scanner annoyance. Those have all been fixed (along with the obvious processor upgrade and camera upgrade and pen upgrade), so I am 100% positive this will be a dream phone for me. There are literally no other phones I even care about or am jealous of (I often get phone envy...). This thing is going to be amazing, which is why I splurged and got the 512GB model to make it the ultimate dream phone, future-proof phone (in case I keep it for a long time!).

I think I'm going to do it, just hoping I won't get screwed over in store saying it can't be applied even though it shows it for me online.
I loved my note8 until it was stolen...
Anyway, I pre-ordered from Samsung. I drove over to Costco and they are giving away some type of $70.00 charging kit with your purchase but you must finance the phone which means a query to your credit report. For some reason you can't just purchase the phone outright.
Bestbuy did not have any deals on this phone. I spoke with their Samsung rep who demoed the BT from the other side of the store and took photos... Pretty damned amazing!
B&H Photo/Video has a pretty nice deal but I didn't see any way to trade in your old phone with them. + they are charging you NYC Tax which is pretty damned high!
Anyone know where the best deal is on this phone? For now, I'll stick with my order from Samsung's website. They still haven't charged my CC as of this time which makes me think that maybe I won't be getting my phone on Friday. UGH! Since my Note 8 was stolen, I've been without a phone for the past month and it's been a pretty damned painful month but I survived .

Where are you located? The deals I'm trying to take advantage of is available through Best Buy themselves.
How did your phone get stolen? You can't track it?

I tracked it then they turned it off. From here, I went online and hopefully deleted all of my stuff that was on there. Unfortunately, my micro-SD Card was not encrypted so if you see me on Redtube be forewarned, it might not be pretty...
I went into a local BestBuy store. The sales guy didn't have 1 deal for me other than what was already on the Samsung website.

I have written this before and will write it again. You guys and gals in the USA are spoiled with Smart phones. The deals you get are amazing. No such deals exist in Southern Europe in fact I may add the whole of Europe.
In this country we have to pay top price for smart phones.
My note 7 (both of them) came with nothing. S8+ came with nothing, Note 8 came two months later with a DEX. This time after numerous complaints to Samsung in this country we managed the amazing deal of trading in our 12 month old Note 8 costing 1,020.00€ for the Note 9 costing 1,030.00€. We got 500.00€ deducted. Never known such a deal and probably never will again! :highfive:
In your case you should jump at such an offer. :good:

Alright, just to update:
I went to my local Best Buy to do the whole process in store, and the employee helping me was confused at my coupon code working for the unlocked Note 9. He called the manager and 2 other employees came and huddled up to see what was going on. They were calling me out about the Unlocked Phones being in their exclusion list, but I told them it worked in my Cart online, and showed them all the screens and from the app. Then I told them to try using the code on another unlocked phone they have available in store that was regular priced. They pulled out a Galaxy J7 phone that was $220, applied the code.....BAM! $22 SAVINGS! THE CODE WORKED!
The reaction on all their faces were priceless! So I go ahead and placed my order for pickup, and they processed the S8+ I had on have for $450. Now I just have to wait for tomorrow to pick up!

The taste of victory is pretty sweet! ?
And I asked them about my Note8 currently being in a device payment plan. Really, I could still sell the phone for profit and still continue paying it off at the end of the two years because it's easy to just switch Sims and just go on with your day.
My Best Buy order switched to "Ready for Pickup" today, so excitedly, I drove into the store to, you know, Pickup my phone.
However, they said I wasn't able to pickup until tomorrow. Kinda frustrating to say the least.

General [INDIA] Galaxy S21 Ultra news, pre-order, offers etc. discussion thread.

Too early to believe, but Samsung Opera House(Bengaluru) has started taking blind prebooking for the Galaxy S21 series already as per THIS article.
Unsurprisingly India would get the Exynos 2100 SoC in this series and I just hope it performs on par with Snapdragon 888.
Why would they make the screen smaller for the s21 ultra than the existing one ? No one seems to have mentioned this.
yeah its only .100" smaller, too me that`s not a big thing for me, but the thing is it will have the LTPO display which I guess is supposed to give better contrast to black colors, also I`m not sure but i have heard talk of the fingerprint reader being 2x faster...... so well see, I`ll be ordering one in the unlocked in black the 512gb version
In the USA you can register for your S21 in the Samsung Shop app. Looks like you get an extra $70 store credit for registering. Can't wait to get the S21 ultra!

The thing I like about Samsung out here in India is that with perks of cashbacks & coupons(if prebooked) the pricing becomes eqivalent to the USA pricing(has been so far) ..
I'm finding the news [email protected] S21 series interesting too. Will get "Exynos" but highly it feels like it would be on par this time around, if not better, excluding the GPU.
I seriously hope the LTPO on the S21 series is far more superior to the one on Note 20U.
I had serious banding/green tint issues and a horrible battery drain problem due to it. The 60fps video recording also had hunting issues even with laser auto focus.
I'm back to S20U, the display feels a lot more stable and a long lasting battery.

We're coming from S10+ getting the Ultra cause of the specs and my husband likes the camera features. It'll probably be to big for me but I am getting it. We won't upgrade for a while so I want the best of the bunch.
Do you think there will be any discounts with pricing if you don't trade in? I have a S9+ right now and am waffling back and forth between getting the S21 Ultra or getting a Note 20 Ultra ($800 thru work).
Have pre-reserved for S21 series because I thought we'd get the Buds Pro and Smart tag as preorder offers alongwith the free case. That is what the leakers had said a few days back but not it seems Buds Pro won't be part of the offer. Also coupled with missing charger and possible missing SD card and extra charges for SPen, will it be worth spending so much extra to sell my Note 20 U for the S21U?
P.S. The only reason I was willing to upgrade was because my Note 20 U is getting heated up a lot + because of the Exynos 2100 finally catching up to SD.

You got the VIP pass for the next Galaxy after you pre reserved it?
In India prebooking is of no use, last time for the Note 20U the cashback and freebies were offered even to customers who did not prebook and bought the phone well after the prebook purchase window. (craze for flagships in India are at an all time low, thanks to OnePlus and Samsung themselves).
Also the Note 20U was up in the corporate program with 5% discount in a matter of few days including the 9k cashback and freebies.
I will get the S21U only during the first week of Feb.
I'm expecting the price to be around 90k for S21U 256gig, anything more than that, I might as well wait for Z flip 2/3 later in April.

No I didn't get any VIP pass. Was I supposed to? If I don't like what I see tomorrow, I am going to just refund my ₹2000 and wait for Feb/March to buy it. The only thing keeping me from the flip/fold is that the camera is always a generation behind in these devices.
I for one, do no find these "pre-registering"(or any other name) hulabaloos fascinating at all given that it's a Samsung flagship.
Irrespective of card/cash or other payment methods, I've been getting Samsung flagships on the very 1st day of market release buying from small retailers for a much lower price than the price quoted by bigger retailers or the biggest retailers with a fixed price or buying directly from Samsung online or offline for quite sometime now. The cost everytime turns out to be the lowest this way in comparison to the cost combined with any other CC/DC cashbacks/corporate offers/exchange offers/finance schemes etc... you name it.
Samsung tends(or "pretends" to be precise) to be strict with such retailers but being consumers all we need is a genuinely sourced product and a proper invoice. It makes sense because once we want to sell it later, the resale value will not at all differ based on which store we bought it from.
+
In my case, prebooking offers are always applicable in the first place as one or the other re-seller does pre-booking taking the required credentials after me getting bombarded with calls soon after official announcement of the flagship.

Smaller retailer like non Samsung but authorized dealers like Sangeetha Mobiles, Chroma, Reliance Digital?
By how much you get a discount on the selling price, I have never tried this as I always get it from the Samsung Cafe.
I kinda feel awkward asking for a discount in Samsung Cafes

No not those big formats, they don't as they don't need to and they can't either. Smart cafés can but they will not.
Instead, approach a few small multibrand players if you have time for it. They need flagship buyers to stay alive in the eyes of big brands for their own promotion/survival and to do so, they let go of it for extremely thin margins.
I happened to purchase two N20U units costing 90k each from two diff. sellers(when it was 1st released) - that's one example.

AFAIK, Samsung smart cafe franchises actually get the highest profit margins for each product they sell compared to other resellers. And it's the marketing skills and subsequent illusions created by the staff that make one feel awkward to ask for a discount.... Nope? The one running the franchise CAN give big discounts, but doesn't want to. They actually ended up giving me discounts a few times in the past but then I stopped visiting them lately as altogether I don't find it worth it.
