Is there a software that was supposed to come with the phone to make it easy to connect to the computer?

Its on the phone, if you want to go that route. The first time you connect your phone it mounts itself as a cd iso and you run the install from there, unless you checked off "Disable Software Install" under settings -> Storage.

FYI, since this is a big reason to need root... I got Bluetooth tethering to work out of the box on Windows 7. Heres to hoping todays(?) patch that contains blutooth "fixes" doesn't break it.
I thinkyou will get charged for that

From what I've heard that's not getting charged.
Using what app?

Not an app. From what I understand you turn on Bluetooth on your cell phone and laptop and connect them and your computer will think it's linked to an access point.

Can someone confirm or deny if vzw can tell if you're tethered or they think its just regular phone data usage?

Still works after the update.

Yes, they can tell. Also, these instructions were posted in the Eris forum on AF--don't know if they'll work on the Droid X.
Has anyone figured this out? Connect usb and surf internet from the pc on the note and not vice versa. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, i knew this. Trying to do it using usb. some of the other samsung phones can do this.
What this would be good for.
1) no wifi router
2) connect phone using usb to pc
3) then using the internet from your pc
4) phone becomes wifi hotspot and wont affect data usage
5) use ipad or tablet to connect to phone and surf.
Get my drift?

Yes I get you, been doing the same thing on HTC phones
However, if you have a laptop with Windows 7, you don't need a wifi router
I use that method and turn my laptop to a wifi router and connect both my phone and tablet to it's network

Apologies, my mistake, read it fast
However, did you try reverse tether? see it here

I really like this idea. If anyone tries this please let us know if it works on the Note and If phone calls/sms are uninhibited during reverse tether.
Hi there. I am trying to install LG's On Screen Phone tool (Download here), and connect it to my Verizon LG G2 (VS980). I first saw this in DeamonFish's root guide tutorial here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Y45SXPRb31o
It's what he used to show the phone screen on his PC. Basically a VNC setup made by LG.
In order for that software to connect you have to switch into "PC Software" mode under USB connection Mode. Check my attachment for what that looks like.
However, it seems Verizon doesn't have this option!
Can anyone confirm? and if so is this something that could possibly be remedied via a rom?
It would seem that internet connection Ethernet would allow you to vnc over network. Bit maybe not.

I have tried every single mode available including the Ethernet mode and still nothing
I talked to lg. Only the at&t and T-Mobile devices support this. Just another reason to get the hell off verizon....

Bummer, I just saw this feature now & am realizing its not going to work for Verizon...
I also would love to see this option with the VS980! I could understand that in stock ROM's that Verizon would block this or something but this is XDA we have OPTIONS! Currently running Cloudyflex 2.0 and loving it and would really like to see this feature ported over to these semi-custom LG ROM's.

Are you by any chance using the one that's white? I've read a handful of threads on other sites saying the White LG G2 are having problems.

I wish I could help you mate, but I can't find anything. I guess I'll just see where the update is at tomorrow.
I have a fresh install of windows 8, no drivers. Attached the phone, drivers updated automatically and everything worked. Maybe if you delete all the old LG drivers and start again, then put in internet/Ethernet mode, see if that works. i couldn't get the OTA to work, got error messages, but the upgrade assistant did.

Hello evryone. I had the same problem. I went on the computer side into Device manager and clicked portable devices while phone was connected. Clicked on my phone (samsung sm n910v) and then on the second tab that say Driver and 5 tabs show up, clicked on ROLL BACK DRIVER and that did it for me. Thank you everyone for other helpfull info i have gotten from this website
I purchased an LG G2 on ebay to get me through until my iPhone 7 ships, had the same problem. I don't know if the USB debugging step is necessary, but here's what I did to get the app to recognize the phone:
1. Enable Developer Features (Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Tap Build Number like 5 times or something (it tells you how many after several taps) to enable developer features
2. Enable USB debugging (Settings > Developer options > USB debugging) - note that you cannot enable while the phone is connected to PC via USB. So unplug first then enable.
3. Start Software Upgrade Assistant software on PC.
4. Plug phone into PC and choose install/media sync mode.
5. Then go to phone and change the connection mode to internet > ethernet.
6. Update software started reading my phone status.
Unfortunately my device is 4.2.2 and software version "VS98008U" and says that it's up to date. I can't find any information about this software version anywhere, so I'm not sure what I got sold on ebay but it aint friendly. And all I want to do is upgrade to current Android version so I can install the latest ESPN Fantasy Sports app until my iPhone comes
Hey all I'm trying to tether/hotspot my nintendo switch (happens to any device as well that attempts to connect) to my V40 but it fails at the internet connection test basically "connected to phone no internet connection" I know it's not my cell provider (AT&T w unlimited data) as I did this with my samsung SM-G9650 and didn't have any issue... And my V40 can access the internet itself via cell data just fine so I'm not sure what is going on I'm hoping someone might have some tricks or a solution or something.
Device information:
LG V40 Unlocked V405UA20a
Android 9 Stock w/-(Magisk, Edxposed, TWRP)
Kernel 4.9.112

Sorry lol try these.. Or :
Can you go back one menu before 'set up hotspot'? Look for 'Manage Connections'. Our screens don't seem identical from either software version or cell carrier.
