I assume you are wanting to disable the capacitative buttons all together, to which you just got to settings-> advanced-> disable capacitative buttons. Hope that helps.

But, if you are trying to only turn off the lights and still using the capacitive buttons, hold the "menu"button for 3 seconds,
The lights go off and still work.

That's a neat trick. My G-Tab's captivity buttons has randomly light-up in the middle of the night since I installed the CM9 (and AOKP) ICS.

In settings > display > notification lights = left disable.
It's a setting to blink capacitive when you have email, SMS, or missed calls, or other notifications.
I don't like, so i left my disabled.

The correct way to turn the lights off for the capacitive buttons is this:
Settings -> Advanced (under device) -> Screen tab -> Backlight (under touchkeys) turn it off.
Note that here you can also change the timeout if you wish to keep them on but for a shorter period of time

I know there are a few in the market made just for that...
Sorry I don't recall what the names were.
Just spend some time searching in the market.
Widgetsoid 2.x
It's a custom power control widget. Has support for lots of things like the aforementioned shutdown/reboot, brightness control, mobile network toggle, flashlight mode, usb mass storage mode, and has some themeable elements.
I'm pretty sure Widgetsoid has the ability to reboot, power down, reboot to recovery, etc. It doesn't use the menu though.
+1 for Widgetoids. Works great.
You can choose which power off options to include.
Um, if you lost your power on/off button, how are you going to turn the phone back on?

I didn't physically lose the power button. I just lost it while the phone is on. I have to physically pull the battery to turn it off or to go into recovery.

Softkey lights are breaking?

I've had this phone for a while, and I've noticed that the softkey lights have started to go out. It started with the menu key, then the home key went out, then the search key. Now the only working light is the Back key, sometimes the search key comes back on. I'm wondering if anyone would know if I could take apart the top part of the phone, and fix the LED's myself, since they don't appear to have fried.
I'm also wondering if this may have had anything with me leaving it outside the shower so many times (sometimes I would look at it and the screen/back would be covered in the humitidy).

My home key and search key back light became a little dark, but I turn off those key back lights.
Is there anyway to turn off only the softkey backlights?

what you could do is buy a new "top part" and open the phone up (BTW its really complicated past the motherboard) and just replace the light bar under the soft keys. i had this same proble, on account i have a frankinstein droid, which means i bought four broken droids, and parted them out to make 1 working droid. i call it... FRAKINDROID!
I ALSO bought a droid 2 motherboard and im getting ready to put it in the droid 1...

yes, you could use the CM setting, custom the light level to turn off only the button lights.

[Q] Power key performance

How does your power key performs? I mean mine responds only when hard pressed or pressed by the right side part of it.
I asked this because all my LG devices have these pretty hard to press hardware keys in contrast to my SE devices.
Comes on at any sign of a click, can do far left, far right etc. Button itself is perfect.
How old is your phone? Worn out over time a possibility ?
there's a mod that lets you wake via volume buttons if you're into that.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
can u tell me what mod. u mean exactly? any instructions?
Use widgetlocker and in use easy-wake mode. It lets you wake up the phone with any hardware button.

Or in case you're using CM or MIUI, theres an option to enable that in the settings menu.

Capacitive Keys no longer vibrating?

Hey, randomly- I can't really remember exactly when it happened but my capacitive keys no longer vibrate. Any where to check to ensure it's not a hardware problem? I'm not rooted or anything. I checked "Sounds" and "Vibrate on touch" is still checked. I toggled it a couple times and still nothing. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Any chance your power save mode was on?
What is your battery level? At a certain point (20%?, 15%?) the phone goes into power save mode, with disabling vibrate among the settings.

[Q] Capacitive Buttons Light Randomly

Running the 1.08 DeOdexed ROM (rooted & s-off) with Facebook & AT&T "stuff" removed.
When using the Amazon Kindle app I've noticed that the three capacitive buttons will light periodically for a few seconds (causing a slight screen dimming) and then go out. Then repeat some seconds later. I haven't noticed any particular pattern or that this happens in any other app.
Any ideas?
Thanks, -- Larry

Thank you. Interestingly, the app works great, but the /sys/class .... hack did not stick.
