Voodoo Louder on ICS, Only 3db? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this is the only thing annoying me with the new ICS. I can only boost my voodoo louder up too 3db, before on Gingerbread it was at least 9db. anyone know a fix?

Looking for one as well

9db Isn't every 3db is double the output? My ears are ringing thinking about it. Maybe the Note's audio circuit is not capable of more output and your other phone initially was not pushing out as much.

Um no. Gb went up to 10.5. Ics only goes to 3. Truly defeats the purpose of the app

Same here. 10.5db on Gingerbread/Galaxy Note. 10.5db on Honeycomb/Galaxy Tab 7.7. But only 3db on Ice Cream Sandwich/Galaxy Note. What gives?

Supercurio has said that for ics its just 3db for now so he will prob update soon with more DB as I too also have voodoo louder

I guess I'm lucky to have a Tab 7.7 running HC. So I can still use Voodoo Louder on it. I used to use an iPhone 4(S) with a dock-to-line out adapter and a Fiio headphone amp. Voodoo Louder made that unnecessary. I'd hate to go back.

Glad we are not all you... a response from the "respected" dev is what I'm after considering I paid good money for the app like others here. App description in the market has not been changed to highlight the app's gimped features in ICS
Besides, going from 10.5db to a recommended 1.5 in ICS is more than pathetic... I switched to Volume+ but just boggles my mind the lack of support this dev gives

Even when i enable the app and it shows 3db, the slider is only at the Half way mark. It never goes to full 3.
Another thing is that i have not seen any volume increase. Is every one seeing an increase in volume.
@Galaxy Note™…

i too am hoping that like in gb, the db goes as high as 10 because the sound really differs. i used senheisser hd 449 and i can't bring my note and galaxy s at the same time. i have purchased the voodoo sound plus which is compatible only to the original galaxy and the sound really impressed me.

+1... after flashing ics and reinstalling voodoo was sad to see only a +3db volume boost instead of the 10+ with gb... hope a fix/update is available soon...

Audio Mod for the Nexus One?

Is there a mod for the nexus one that actually works for increasing the volume? I'm sick of having the superior phone but the lowest volume. I can hear these flip phones alerts or playing music over industrial fans and I can hardly hear my own phone when it's quiet.
right this sucks!!! please anyone knows of any kind to increase the volume really??
as in speaker wise not by ear??
We just need to be careful with how much increase we add. People will go and start blowing up their speakers
The music player Lithium has a volume increaser, but only works whilst playing music
Many of the custom kernels you can install will include the Audio Boost hack. Take a look at Wildmonk, pershoot or intersectraven's kernels.
Umm cyanogen ROM like doubles call volume with the hack and you can't turn it up past 50% or it blows your ear hole off. Have you never tried the cyan hack? It solves this issue long ago.
I have his rom. And Froyo. I still find it very hard to hear anything on my phone. My phone is a freaking Nexus One. Why is the volume so damn low? This is embarrassing. If I need something extra then please tell me what I need to do cause enough is enough. The phone ringing is so hard to hear I damn near miss calls. Meanwhile a flip phone boost mobile outranks my phone with it's volume? Tell me someone is kidding?
mine has always been quite loud, almost annoying, with notifications, when its stock or with cyanogen
maybe try amping up the volume of the ringtone file or notification with an audio program like audacity?
i also got the same problem. the volume is too low. a lot of times i missed the notification because i can't hear it. even in quiet room.
and i stumbled into this web. androidaudiohacks.com
the guy provided an apps to crank up the volume. but it still won't work on nexus one. the guy said it's WIP though. maybe someone can take a look at that web and figured a way to do it on nexus one.
If my phone is in my pocket, I simply do not hear it ring or notify no matter how loud i have it set, period. The sound is pretty good quality-wise but i can only watch a movie with ear buds or if its absolutely silent in the room.
I tried showing off my phone to a friend, he really like the picture but didnt understand the point since we couldnt hear the damn thing!!! He said he'll stick with his stupid iphone, and based on the piss poor performance he witnessed i honestly cant blame him. It is odd that the stock volume made it through testing the way it is, it actually makes me question whether or not the finished product did in fact get tested...of course i have the exact same problem with my $2000 vaio laptop. It plays blu-ray dvd's beautifully you just cant hear anything. So im not all that upset at htc in particular, perhaps there is validity to the blowing speakers concern....

I mean on cyan 508 the volume is insanely loud. Like 60% and the speaker distorts. Maybe this was cyan 507 I'm thinking cause I remember reading him say it was too loud so he was gonna reduce it a little.
But I mean the hack was like purposely over the top loud, like silly loud.
People might not realize that if they're using the original protective pouch - it'll eat 3/4 of what the speaker puts out, because it isn't holed in the right places.
The OP might be using one?
wasn't this the same problem plaguing the g1? just wanted to point this out but the iphone can be "loud" but it actually isn't. trying talking or watching a vid in a room with more than 4 people.

what happened was cyanogen added the volume increase into his ROMs. back in cyan 5.0.7 the volume hack was so ridiculously loud that it couldnt be turned up past around 60% cause it would just kill your ears. then i remember him or someone from the team posting that they were thinking about reducing it in a next version.
so i guess i'm saying you could switch to cyan 5.0.7 if you want to see what the speaker volume really could do and how loud it was, its capable. but it seems like he reduced it in newer cyan version. and nobody wants to use an outdated version, so i guess that doesnt help you. perhaps someone could get them to increase the hack volume again.
Got a link to it? Is there a downside to going to a older version? I have cyan 6.0.0. Is there anything different from this version other than volume compared to 5.0.7?

Well all previous versions of cyanogen ROM are available, but I don't have the link handy. It's on his site or maybe even in ROM manager. If you're really gonna go thru this, I would install cyan 5.0.7. The downside is its a 2.1 based ROM, when 2.2 froyo is now the norm. But that older ROM actually had the 720p video hack working which still isn't fully available on froyo ROMs yet. So that's another advantage of using a 2.1 based cyan ROM, in addition to the audio hack it has.
I'm sure this audio hack could be applied to the new cyan ROM if someone could tell us how to do it.
I sent him a PM but no answer. Its frustrating but also apart of the game. I just want volume.

[Q] Call audio through headphone out

hey guys,
first off i wanna thank all you awesome devs for making the android platform and the sgs the awesome experience it us i switched from iphone about a month back now and i have no regrets.
well maybe except one tiny one? when i was playing music in the car.. and i got a call.. the call audio would come through the same headphone jack and i could hear it through the car speakers while speaking through the phone mic.
is such an option possible on the sgs? also does anyone know of a way to lower the mic input volume for video so as to be able to film in loud environments such as gigs?
im running the megatron rom with froyo.
thanks for your time guys!
zorran
I would love for this to work too. I do a lot of work in very noisy areas, and use noise cancelling headphones to deaden outside noise. On my iPhone I could answer calls using the phone mic and headphones for the speaker. It's driving me insane that I can't do this on my Galaxy S.
search.. is that so hard for everyone .. i have posted solution to this multiple times.

[Q] bass boost?

sup people, im using revolution rom and it is very good but the sound with my headset is not as good as when i was using cyanogenmod with that dsp manager that had bass boost..
is that possible in my current rom, ive read something bout voodoo an galaxy tuner but galaxy tuner just freezes when i select the sound option..
thanks in advance
Voodoo has bass boost, just download Voodoo control app from market and try if you have voodoo sound on your kernel.
If not, then flash kernel that has Voodoo sound.
Yeah, use voodoo control app and a kernel with voodoo sound. Or buy the voodoo control plus app and load the voodoo module - you need root. Voodoo has pretty nice bass boost.
Voodoo in conjunction with power amp pro.......awesome!

Well, you should get the free voodoo control app from the market and flash a kernel with voodoo sound. If you want to just install the plus version of the app and load the module, you shouldn't pirate the app but buy it. If you had done that you would know that the current version of voodoo control plus is 3.0.3 and you need at least version 2.1 of the app to have the bass boost option.

I saw it yesterday. I just hate Beats and all their overpriced junk. Anyway, if you value quality sound you're will be more satisfied with the sgs. Its wolfson sound chip makes it one of the best DAPs out there. You just need voodoo and enable the options in the voodoo control app (did you check your inbox?). SGS just sounds amazing - I doubt that any Beats improvement in the dhd rom can make its sound chip better. Wolfson and SGS is the way to go - believe me. Almost no other phones come even close to the sgs with voodoo sound and a nice quality pair of headphones.

Well, I'm using the ROM from my signature. Anyway, voodoo is not not just "good enough" it is awesome. You should know that 50% of the sound quality comes from the Hardware and the software of the device and the quality of the music files - and the other 50% come from the headphones. The voodoo bass boost together with sennheiser ie8, for instance, will blow your mind. If you're using cheap headphones yo can use cyanogenmod or whatever and still complain. Just my 2 cents
edit: about the market - which version of the market do you use.? Are you using the new market or the old one?

[Q] App stopped working

I was using DSLR Remote by Bitshift with GB 3.6 until upgrading to Android 4.0.4. Now, the app no longer works and I'm wondering if it could have anything to do with the upgrade. My question is a long shot I know.
The app is a DSLR remote control which requires a small DIY circuit (just 2 x transistors and 2 x resistors) to be put together with a cable between the camera and the Note's audio jack. Audio signals from the Note drive the interface circuit to activate focusing and shutter release on the camera.
With the help of the app developer, I've established that there's nothing wrong with the circuit or cable. What seems to be the case is that the phone's audio jack is no longer putting out enough current to drive the interface circuit. The only thing I've changed is the upgrade to ICS 4.0.4.
As I say, a long shot but I thought someone might have an idea about what the problem might be.
Thanks in advance.
Trevor

Baseband version N7000DXLR1
Kernet version 3.0.13-N7000DXLR5-CL968032

It may be so as the unrelated Voodoo Louder app (that increases max jacked volume) had a major decrease in max loudness after upgrading to ICS.
I think it may be related.
If no one else has a clue, I believe you may have to ask Supercurio (voodoo dev) for his feedback.

Thank you for the reply. That makes sense. However, I'm not aware that the volume decreased after I had upgraded to ICS. If there is a difference, I can't hear it.
Just for fun, I tried installing Voodoo Louder (Paid) since it was only a dollar or so but, again, it made no difference that I could hear.

I'm not sure on now to respond to your question, but have you tried asking back the app developer if his DIY app supports the new ICS firmware also?
The reason why I'm asking this is that, your app developer might have develop his app on GB platform and inasmuch, if that's the case, then that app cannot and will not work with ICS anymore.
ICS is a sort of a leapfrog from GB you know.. It's a case of you-win some and you-lose some functionality thing. You lose some of the basic GB functionalities and you gain some new ICS ones.
Well, thanks for responding anyway.
Yes, of course I asked the app developer. I mentioned in my OP that he'd helped me test the DIY hardware and cabling and we could find nothing wrong. My first question to him was if he knew of any issues with ICS on the Galaxy Note that might be the cause and he said he wasn't (there was one reviewer who said it didn't work on his Galaxy Note but this could mean anything).
The output from the phone appears on the audio jack as it should but the question of adequate AC voltage to drive the app hardware came up and I can't verify that without a scope which I don't possess.
I'm used to finding that with any hardware/software upgrade you lose and you gain. I was just wondering if any of the experts here, especially those developing sound related apps, could throw any light on it. If I have to live without the app it's not the end of the world. It's just a very useful app for a photographer with a DSLR - and not only is it free, it's ad free!
Markuzy suggested that the max output had been reduced with ICS and referred me to the Voodoo Sound developer website. What I read there seemed to suggest that there had been some reduction but that this was later fixed by Samsung. Who knows?
Thanks again.

Nexus 5 Speaker Mod!

So I know I'm very low profile around here, I've never really posted much, sorry for that, I just though people might be interested in this beautiful mod me and my co-worker did to my Nexus 5 to make my speaker volume louder. First I need to say a huge thank you to AdamOutler , you can see full instructions to do this modification (minus the extra touch) over at his thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529878and also a big thanks to my co-worker and good friend Jake! Now anyways, on to the pictures!
So in the first picture is the hole mod in the speaker, then in the second and third shots you can see the little speaker hole with mesh made for the back cover to let even more sound out of the device, it's nothing special but I'm super pleased with the way it turned out, my volume is much louder now and it looks simple and clean. Again a huge thanks to Jake for the help and idea and AdamOutler for the original mod, go shoot this guy a quick thanks. !

There is some sort of mod or app that you can use once rooted to increase the decibels. I can't vouch for how good sound quality will be once increased since I'm not rooted but you can always test it out.

And many custom kernels have this option to increase volume output (like faux or Franco). Pretty useful imo...

There is some sort of mod or app that you can use once rooted to increase the decibels. I can't vouch for how good sound quality will be once increased since I'm not rooted but you can always test it out.

That's alright, I don't really use my phone speaker for anything besides my ringtones honestly.
