[Q] During touch input "P" key not working - HTC Incredible S

Hello,
I'm having a serious issue with my Incredible S. I bought it 8 months ago. Until last week everything was just fine. I'm using "RCMix3D Runny v4.0" ROM for last couple of months with no problem. Suddenly whenever I wanted to type the "P" key it doesn't work in touch input. All other key's are working fine. But specifically "p" not working. I tried "GO keyboard" as well. Didn't work. But the "p" key works if hold the phone horizontally. So does that mean that specific region of my phone touch screen damaged? But i can scroll up and down over that region. During game play it also works. Any idea folks? Anyone else having this trouble?
Regards.

Try rebooting your device
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk

Try rebooting the phone, or try restoring a nandroid or try re flashing the ROM (clean install).

I did hard reboot couple of times. But still no luck.

Download "touch test" from the market to check your digitization.

I also had a problem.. my ph crashed (force close) a lot of times. it came out of nowhere.
so, I cleaned everthing on my ph ( factory reset /wipe data,partition/format )and flash new Rom.. . and got it fixed.
So, u should try that. ( at least factory reset thing.. )

As a simple test if you have a Bluetooth keyboard can you pair it with the phone and see if you have the same problem? This will tell you whether it is the touch that is causing the crash or the key 'p'. HTH.

Well, with "touch test" i can draw line on all portion of the screen except on the right most side... i'm not sure if it's default...

Well, if I type in by holding the phone horizontally.. i can type the letter "p" just fine because the keyboard is in horizontal mode that time... it only doesn't work if i wanna type in holding the phone vertically (normal way)..

I bad that problem with nik's rom, with different keys, but rebooting solved it

I have a similar problem, some keys dont respond when I try to type something, it happened after a phone restore.
I heard about this problem very often, is this an hardware fault or can be fixed in some way?

Partial Screen Death
From what i see, it could be a case of partial screen fault, where the screen is not able to sense certain part of the screen as it is faulty. Download a touch screen test app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.the511plus.MultiTouchTester&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50aGU1MTFwbHVzLk11bHRpVG91Y2hUZXN0ZXIiXQ... Go through from top to bottom, and at the faulty part it would "jump". If so, you need a repair.

[Q] ATT auto update recently?

Did ATT release some sort of stealth patch over the weelend? As of Sunday morning my home button now links to Desktop Home instead of the standard Android home. My phone also gets stuck in landscape mode.
I am running stock froyo with root and clockwork only installed!
The funny part about this is I can restore to a previous saved backup and have it start in non landscape. But once I reboot, say goodbye to portrait mode. You get stuck in landscape.
Anyone else had this issue and fixed it?
Highly doubt it, not their speed.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
No att did not send some update to you.chances are it is a messed up accelerometer for the rotation problem and possible a setting change or random bug that has affected the homer button
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well the funny thing is I do a factory reset and things are fun. No problems and every thing works perfect. Once i reboot after re-setting things up, it forces landscape mode and changes the home button. The accelerometer isn't broken. The reason I say this is because i can switch between between landscape and portrait just fine until I reboot the phone for the first time. If it was broken, it would not be able to do this.
One thing I am going to do is try and go back to factory in an area there is no service and see what happens. If it still does it, then I may be infected with something. But would be interesting since I haven't installed anything in weeks!
If ATT is sending stealth updates, then who knows what the heck they are doing with our phones!
There are no stealth updates. Recalibrate your accelerometer and it will work fine again. I never had the problem on my Captivate, but once I upgraded my brothers to KB1, his had the accelerometer issue. Horizontal calibration in Settings>Display fixed it.
I think I had the same problem.. Everything became landscape...
I just rebooted and it was fine..
Sent from my phone
Well recalibrating did not work. Still stuck in landscape mode. Rebooting does nothing. Still trying to find a place to test the theory that I was on first connect with ATT.
One other thing. If I clear the delvik cache, it rests the portrait mode and switches correctly from there until I reboot the phone. Then it switches back to landscape only. This is driving me nutts. I can not get this crap to top happening.

So does anyone have any ideas on what to do with this? If I factory reset and clear delvik, I get the screen to work fine till I reboot. Once I reboot the phone, it gets stuck in landscape mode. I have tried everything on this and still can not get this to work. I am just about ready to ODIN it and see if that resolves the issue.
I have re calibrated about 50 billion times and it does nothing! Its not the exceleromitor since I can factory reset and it works till I reboot.

[Q] display keeps freezing

Hello all,
My incredible s freezes, I would then need to press the power button (to put screen into sleep) and then wake it up then it's good again (not restarting).
Any idea whats this all about?
Did someone else have the same problem? what should i do next, how can i find out if its software problem or hw?
thank you all for the help
PS: i tried soft reset and hard reset, nothing helped, could it be that i need to change the touch screen DIGITIZER?
PS2: i was searching how to do a factory reset....
From the main home screen, tap menu
Tap Settings, then Privacy
Tap Factory data reset
Tap Reset phone
Enter your password if required, then tap Erase everything to confirm
in my Privacy menu i dont have Factory data reset, whats wrong with this phone? i just did upgrade, using Adroid 2.3.3, Sense 2.1, SW no 2.30.405.1
found out that the factory reset thing is in SD & phone storage menu
i did a factory reset but its still happening
help please
maybe a new display would fix this?
what else could i try before i spend money on this issue?
HBOOT: 1.13
RADIO-3805.06.03.03
Android 2.3.3 official ROM
should i try to S-off it and install a custom ROM?
im afraid that it might freeze and break

Is it under warranty?
If so I'd bring it back, if not i'd go the custom ROM route.
The fact that you can turn it off/on again and the issue is fixed makes me think it is software related.
I agree with scoobysnacks, i would do the same
most probably software related. i normally use "keyboard from android 2.3" app from the market, back in those sense 3.0 days it worked brilliantly but when i flashed any sense 3.5 roms, the a and k keys become not very responsive. the result?
my texts turn into something li(k)e this. no (a)'s and no (k)'s.
in the end i changed to go keyboard and everything works well again
thank you guys for the advice
as i sad before i hard-reset the device, and the problem is still there, even more i noticed that in some cases the upper part of the display gets numb, doesn't respond to the touch/finger ... again after i turn off the display and back on it works... also when i write texts (horizontal aligned) the left part of the keys aren't working or it just pushes the wrong ones.... i tried to do the calibration thing, but no change
i installed go keyboard and no change,
i just cant write 'w', when i touch the W in the go-keyboard it will write E or Q
whats wrong whit it?
i did S-OFF, and rooted the IS, now ill have to find a quick/light ROM to run on it
any suggestions? for a stable/ light and quick ROM?
ill do this test and if still nothing works ill changed the display, right? any other suggestions?
i did it, i flashed a custom ROM, Android Revolution HD
problem still exists
some more details:
when i keep it in landscape position, and try to write a message
the keys: w d x , are not responding, so every time i try to touch them, a neighbor key activated
any other solutions? before i go and order a new touch screen digitizer?

Wondering what will you get if you use swype keyboard..
perhaps touch screen digitizer really need a change then if all not working.
I've got the same issue. The freeezing happens in all screens, and requires the power button to be returned to operational state. This is on a stock IS 2.3.3 ROM.
next i will try S-off, rooting and custom ROM, and see what happens. I can't see how this would be a hardware (digitizer) issue as it comes and goes. Is a little frustrating, and since I bought it used, I have no warranty.
Same issue here too i thought i was alone with that issue, posted in trinity forum.
I'm getting some random lock-ups even sensitive buttons and touchscreen don't respond, It goes away going to sleep and going back, it's so frustrating while web browsing for example
Am I Alone with that issue, or this is sign my CPU is dying?

Let's fight together with that problem
Well, completely wiped and installed a new ROM, still the same freezing issue. I've oredered a new digitizer, so we'll see if that works.
New digitizer didn't work either. Gonna try a new kernal, after that, I give up!!
Hi amigo, I face the same problem, maybe this rom is not very stable.
Tried a different Kernel, and still the same issue. I've tried everything I can think of and this phone still seems to randomly lock-up.

Odd Touchscreen issues

Hey,
I have Verizon droid 3 running up in Canada, and its been working fine...however it recently started having issues with the touchscreen.
Basically the screen works normally 3% now, otherwise it only works when the keyboard is open to just above the first row of keys.
If I touch the screen while the keyboard is fully open it wont respond, but when I go back to the working position it will respond to a touch made while fully open (ie; I pressed ok after typing, it didn't submit until I closed the keyboard to the working position, like a delayed response).
It seems like a software issue, but I already hard reset.....
Any ideas? I don't want to change this phone after only 5 months (no Verizon warranty here!)..
Thanks,

Which ROM are you on, stock or a custom one?
Its a long shot, but I have odd touchscreen issues when plugged into cheap power sources (inverters, etc). You may want to check the battery - pop it out for a bit, put it back in, maybe try someone else's, etc...

Oh ok, then I'm not really sure. I would, if you want, try and flash right back to complete stock and see if your having the same troubles. If you are then it's almost guaranteed to be a hardware problem. However, if the problem doesn't persist then it could have just been some weird bug or glitch that happened. I've had some weird things happen a week or so after a flash and it was software related.
But all this would be having you do a reflash either through CWM/Safestrap or sbf and then you lose everything you have (Though you can backup & restore apps via Titanium Backup). So if you don't end up reflashing I understand
Also does this happen only at certain times/intervals say when your charging? Hope this helps!
Edit: I looked at the orig post at work and forgot to look at it again. A hard reset should be able to fix it, but you never know. I would recommend a reflash and see what happens. Sorry I can't be more help
I hate you. I read your post yesterday and thought "huh, that's really weird and unfortunate." I woke up today and the same thing is happening to me. I haven't flashed anything since April. It was totally out of the blue.
Mine only works when the screen is slid open bout half a centimeter, not even enough to force the screen to rotate.

That's exactly what's happening....It's been like this for a week. However, it sometimes works when I left it for the night to charge...or randomly, but full functionality lasts only a few minutes.

It's strange.
Yesterday my touchscreen it was completely unresponsive the whole day.
stock rom, everything untouched
i rebooted it a million times. closed or open make no difference.
today, it is working amazingly
what was the difference? nothing at all! it layed on my desk all night
i don't understand how the digitizer can go between perfect condition and not working as it wish.

[Q][SOLVED]Weird camera problem (image but unresponsive buttons), any ideas?

Hello to you all,
I've looked and couldn't find a similar thing happen to anyone else!
So, I have a X8 with locked bootloader and stock Ginger DX 29, and although it used to work fine, I now am experiencing this problem with my camera.
Basically, the camera button isn't recognized to launch the app from the homescreen for a start, and then if I do open it from the app drawer, I can see the image fine, but nothing works (accessing the settings, changing from camera to video, taking a picture, etc) and after a few second I get a Close app/Wait kind of dialogue and I'm back to square one.
this is annoying because I tried pushing older camera.apks that I knew worked with no problem, no change. I tried doing a factory reset, no luck, flashing gdx again from scratch (didn't try the SEUS reset because it's a pain to root again and all that, and gdx used to work fine) I've also checked that it wasn't a hardware problem by mapping the camera button to an action in snesoid and it worked fine.
I don't really know what to do from that point! I was thinking maybe it's got to do with my image folder on the sd card, or something like that since it's the only thing that stays there throughout the wipes? Anyone knows what could be at fault? It's annoying not able to use the camera!
Thank you in advance.
Re: [Q] Weird camera problem, any ideas?
Settings ,applications, manage applications, find camera.apk and wipe cache and data.
If it doesnt help, try to download a camera app from play store and see if it works.
so, wiping the data didn't work, however I did two things : download a third party app and renamed my DCIM folder to another name, and one of them worked!
I'm suspecting the second one because as I tried my original app again, everything worked as well...
It must have been write protected for some reason, and that's why my camera app would be stuck at the begining I guess...
I'll try to copy my files back in the new folder that was created and see if it happens again.
Thank you!

phone vibrates even when switched off! - please help

ok so i got my htc one a couple of days ago and it sees to have a serious problem!
Basically the phone goes through stages of random vibrating every few mins to full on constant vibrating like there is a fan or motor buzzing in there. It even does it if the phone is switched off! Ive just had an episode of it vibrating no stop for 10 mins, didnt make a difference when i switched it off or when i factory reset it!
It seems to overheat or something and only stopped doing it after i had just left it for a while. I have tried to speak with htc about it but they were useless and had no suggestions what soever.
I really need some help here, i bought the phone privately and to all intense purposes it seemed like brand new

No cant exchange it, only option i might have if i cant get the problem ressolved on here would be to send it to htc for repair but can take up to 2 weeks.
when i got the phone it was still on 4.1 and told me update available to 4.2 so i did that. Thats all i have done , apart from unlocking it from 02 using a code.
its almost like on a computer when its being worked hard etc that you here the fan cut in, thats what it seems like except it sounds like the buzz you get when you first start the phone. sometimes it does this just once every few mins or so, other times it will start doing it and not stop...even when switched off.....everything else on the phone seems to work fine

Did the device get wet at some point? Sounds like a hardware problem if a factory reset didn't solve the problem.
There's a slight chance it could be a real bad app or an issue with the rom. Maybe running a stock RUU for your device if you can find it might help.
Pretty sure it hasent got wet .
Would be happy to put stock Rom back on it but not sure how I go about reflashing it .
Don't know if this normal or not but when I did a factory reset I thought the device would be wiped completely, all my pictures and videos etc however when I set it back up again I found some videos on there still that I had downloaded to the phone off the net.
Maybe it's not wiping itself correctly either?

Resetting the device should wipe everything and bring it to the same condition as new.
Go to settings>>Backup & Reset>>Reset phone>>now check "Erase all data", then tap "OK".
If that doesn't work, try to do a factory reset from the bootloader.

Factory reset will wipe the device but leave the contents of the sdcard untouched which explains why your vids are still there
Appreciate the help guys, thankyou
So, is there any benifit to wiping the device completely over and above what I've done allready?
Today the phone has just done the odd sudden vibration as if you were just booting up, around 5 times in total, nowhere near as bad as last night, don't know why that would be.
Would it be possible to reflash standard firmware?
Is so how would I do it. Phone is completley standard and was in 4.1 prior to the ota update to 4.2, could 4.2 be the problem?

I'd try it. You can back up your pics and music on your PC via HTC Sync first.
Ok so I have tried it but no joy
Still getting the random buzzing/vibration for no apparent reason.
Could it be a bug with the update to 4.2.2?
Can I go back to 4.1?

Don't think it's a bug with 4.2.2 but a hardware issue.
Couple of other things to try ; download "CID Getter" from the play store, run it and find out your device's CID number. Now search on Google or xda for the RUU for your device's CID number. Download the RUU.exe to your pc, connect your phone to the pc and run the RUU.exe. This will bring the phone back to stock 4.1..
Or you can unlock the bootloader and flash another rom. Step by step instructions can be found on xda
Sorry, don't know of any easy solutions.

ok so just to update this....

You tried everything so it's has to be a hardware issue. Maybe the vibration starts when the device gets warm. Sorry we couldn't fix it.

My HTC one has been doing the same thing. Vibrating randomly even when powered down. Brought it back to Sprint and had them order me a new phone. The only way to stop it from vibrating when powered down was to bang it on a hard surface, then it would stop. Crazy!
Vibrating non stop
My HTC One had been vibrating cotinuously too. I kept slapping the upper part of the phone to stop it from vibrating. However, this worked for the initial few days only. Later, it continued to vibrate continuously without stopping at all ! In the night I left the phone in the other room while it was still vibrating and the next morning the phone wouldn't charge at all! Now the phone is not booting/ charging. It is dead! Any leads?
EDIT: I slapped the upper part again, it suddenly woke up from the dead! It is charging now, the LED is red too!! But it is still continuously vibrating. I have left it to charge as of now, but please help with this vibrating problem. Any ideas?
I've had the same issue with my M7 today.
There were no software updates or any new apps lately.
It all emerged when i was pressing the home button (to exit from some app) and at the same time an incomming call started.
I have tried:
switching it off - did not help
Changing volume setting silent\vibe\sound a couple of times - no effect
Soft reset - no help
Hard reset - no help
Slapping with upper side of the phone against my had - helped for some time, the it started again
Seems like hardware issue.
Currently working solution for me:
Switch off the option "Vibrate on keypress" in Settings ==> Sound & notification
UPD: had to turn off all the vibrations
So far so good. Apparently there is some issue with vibe motor, and it just does not stop. I assume that by disabling that option it is not getting started and thus no constant vibe follows.
UPD 2 Fixed:
Issue reoccurred on hitting the device against my palm.
Had to disassemble it, there are a couple of instructions on youtube, i used plastic cards.
Motor was spinning even with a switched off device. Had to unplug and plug the motor a couple of times and it helped.
Turned on all vibrations in settings, no issues so far.
Hope that helps.
