any way to fix hairline scratches? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just had my note about 2 weeks, never dropped it and i dont keep keys or change in my pocket been sick and been carrying a paper towel with me, today i noticed a scratch on the screen and its starting to annoy me its about the length of an eyelash i can only see it when the screen is off and at an angel where the light hits it
dropped my infuse on the screen many times and never got one scratch

You could put a screen protector on to hide it. I had an fine scratch on used ipad I bought, put a screen protector on and could not see the scratch.
Also google iphone scratch removal, there are plenty of YouTube videos about it.

Learn to live with it, have plenty of these hairline scratches, at first they really annoyed me, but I cant actually see them when the screen is on, so no I don't care.
But, a few weeks ago I read a thread about some 3M polish stuff that actually removed the scratches, there's some aluminum stuff in the fluid that also is present in the Gorilla Glass, so I suppose it should work.
Google is your friend, have a nice day

you can get an antiglare screen protector those usually hide small scratches. i had it on one of my blackberry. and you couldnt see the scratch after that.

Anyone prefer not to use screen protector?

Does anyone use the X1 without screen protector? Does the screen scratch easily from normal use?
I had mine for more then a year and don't use screen protector don't have any problems
guess it depend on if one keep it in a pocket with keys or a lit cigar
I gave up on a screen protector ages ago, main thing is to never put keys in the same pocket, another trick is to make sure the screen is always facing towards your body when in a pocket, so if you lean against something the screen does not crack. There are a couple of tiny scratches on my screen, but don't affect performance, would only be a problem at resale time, but i tend to hand mine on rather than sell them.
If those digitizers (4$ from DealExtreme) works as expected, you won't need to use a protector for 2$
My screen protector basically looked like crap (peeling & mad scratches) after almost a year so I took it off. I ordered a few screen protectors and they will be arriving shortly. So for the time being I'm not using any protector and the screen looks awesome and doesn't scratch easily at all. It's been a week and no scratches yet (knock on wood). I generally follow the same rules as post #3 and am very mindful in what pocket I put my phone in. I kind of feel naked w/o a screen protector though, so I definitely need one just for the hell of it.
I prefer to have a screen protector for any phone (or any portable device) with a touchscreen. In any case, I am careful what I keep on my pocket.
Currently I'm using the Brando Screenprotector Ultra Clear which cost me €18 euro After about roughly 5 months of use it only contains a few VERY MINOR scratches which are hardly visible at all. No pealing issues either so I'm happy, lol.
i played around with screen protectors for a while and finally found one i liked. i tried a bunch of cheapo ones, they would scratch easily, and impaired the touchscreen's responsiveness. i finally shelled out $6 a piece for a super high quality one, precut for the X1, and it's amazing. you can't tell it's on, and the phone acts as if it was never there. you can literally rub knives on it and it will never even show a hint of a scratch.
up until i found this high quality one, i settled for using the phone without a screen protector. i figured a new LCD was $100, and with those $4 digitizers, who cares right? well, the high quality screen protector i use now resists fingerprints and dirt like i've never seen. after a day of using the phone naked, it looks like a 5 year old rubbed his morning grease pile of eggs and bacon all over it. now, i can use my screen for weeks and it still looks cleaner than anything i've ever seen.
I hate screen protectors xD My screen is without any scratches...for sure with the a screen protector its saver, but they always look: Uaaagghhh...hate them^^
Some little scratches look better then a screen protector. But my x1 looks very good
If you want to sell your phone after a year and you want to get as much as possible, then use a screen protector

I use an foil from Vestas. Its about 1mm thick and self glueing. I did cut it by myself. 2 weeks ago i had to send in my phone, so i removed the foil and no scratches at all.But the Cover of the phone did look like an Battlefield. ( the Phone did fall aprox. 40 times to the ground, also an hardone with little sharp stones directly on the display). Also no problems using the touchscreen.
recomendation: handle the phone with care, and the advices given in posts above.
I for my part know i am not very careful with mobile devices, so i carry it alltime in an belt bag with bt headphone, so i dont need to put it out all the time.
i use a screen protector called "durasec" from a company called hightec. had one on my X1 for nearly a year and still not a mark on it. its some kind of self healing pvc or something. its also the perfect thickness to bring the x1 screen flush to the body of the phone. cost me about £9. theyre of extremely high quality, very precisely cut. i got mine from ebay but they also have their own website.theyre a german company and provide screen protectors for almost anything and ship worldwide. highly recommended.

i bought some screen protectors from chinese ebay some time ago. until than i used X1 for abouth half a year and it was withouth scratches on the screen. then i put this screen protector on my phone in a couple of hours it was all scrached because of the stylus it was all marked with lines and gestures. this ****ty screan protector was demaged more in a coulpe of hours then X1 screen was in half a year... then i got the well known issue with th phone when sliding out the screen it faded black. i send the phone back to the shop to repair this dreadfull issue now im gettin a new X1 for free. Are screen protectors somehow related to this issue? This post makes it sound like there is a connection. If so, I'm not going to bother with a screen protector.
I use an invisible shield screen protector, been on a year now and looks perfect. I used a cheap screen protector first and that lasted about two weeks before being covered in scratches.
I put Zagg on mine not just the screen but th back too zagg shields are scratch proof and it will give you better grip too.
I used a screen protector for months. Didn't get scratched up, but it was annoying for a few reasons:
There was a sub-millimeter gap around the screen. So now it wasn't just the bezel, there was a tiny valley which was a magnet for dust and gunk.
In spite of my best effort on application, a piece of dust got under it and was forever annoying me.
The clarity of the screen was noticably reduced, even when the screen protector was brand new.
Though it was a pretty high-spec one, it still made the touch-screen slightly less sensitive than before.
It kept my X1 pristine for a few months - and so was hardly a waste of money; but having removed it, life is so much better.
I use my X1 for 10 months now without any screen protector -- I really hate those.
The screen does have a few tiny scratches, but only visible under proper light and proper angle (one has to look for them to see them). Absolutely invisible when the back-light is on and during normal use.
I'm careful to carry only soft things in the same pocket as my X1 and that's the only screen protection it needs
Why don't use screen protector for your phone, for me, it is a must to have items. Protect the phone well for long term using

my x1 is over 1 year and a am not using screen protector... my screen is really messed up and a lot of scratches, but only visible under proper light and proper angle!!!
1. Don`t have it in your pocket whit out a screen protector or ....()
2. Don`t drop it to the ground
3. Don`t point at the screen whit a burning laser, bot whit a 5mw OR 200 whit the lens in not in a burning posision you can control the screen white the laser...
I don't use a screen protector because it looks so obvious that you have one. I just take good care of my phone and I put it in a case when not in use.
I personally never used screen protector, and despite little scratches you can't even see, the display is fine after year of use (unlike the housing... damn cracks )

[Q] Do i really need a screen protector?

Im super, super careful with my phones and i did carry my Nexus One with case but without a screen protector.
why? because i knew that accidents happen and a good looking case will help in case i drop my phone.
now, talking about screen protectors, i really dont like them.
takes away the beauty of the screen specially S screen.
i never got a scratch on my nexus one, carry the phone is my pocket by itself or on my bag when going to work.
can u guys tell me if im safe not using a screen protector.
This is not the nexus one, there our people that got their phone's screen scratch by staring at it.
get a screen protector - clarivue is what im using, no orange peel nor touch issues. Screen looks great! couldn't notice a difference with the naked glass.
(Had also the cheap ones from ebay - yaak!)
I don't think anyone has reported that they scratch their screen YET. The battery cover is a different story tho....
IMO, I would not want to use screen protector. I have used my Hero for over a year without screen protector. Due to it's chin, it never touch the surface. The screen is coated to reduce finger prints (though it does not eliminate finger prints totally it is still pretty good compare to my friends' i phones with screen protector) and since it is curve screen it should not touch the surface when you drag on the table, face down just like my current hero. My nexus S will be arriving in a few days and I don't inted to get one.
+1 for clarivue, you forget it's on your phone after a while.
The Nexus S screen scratches as easily as any other screen, Gorilla Glass or not. If you thought you were safe with the Nexus One, don't buy one for the Nexus S.
It is not the screen that scratches while you look at it, it is the battery cover. So I would recommend a case, but you were already going to buy one I see.
If you really want a screen protector, go with a super clear one like Clarivue or Seidio. But I won't buy one. It is glass after all, and the anti-smudge layer won't work when you have a screen protector, of course.

Quoted for truth.
Recommend you guys read about the oleophobic coating... I'm sure the glass is quite scratch resistant but the coating seems to be easily worn off:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902132
Pics on page 2 and 3. I've seen this first hand with my first Nexus S. I've since exchanged and my new one hasn't shown this problem so it might have been a defect from the factory since I don't actually know if mine wore off while I had it or if it was like that the whole time and I just noticed it later.

Well the guy who started the topic and exchange his Nexus S three times
was using rubbing alcohol to clean the screen.
i dont know what other chemical he used.
personally I think screen protectors are one of the biggest scams in the cell phone industry

Lol, why would you clean your phone with alcohol or any other chemical, when there is an oleophobic coating on the display? I mean, that's the purpose of the oleophobic coating, right? It is there so you don't need to use chemicals to clean your display...
I don't like to use any case for my phone. I have not been using any case for 3-4 previous phones. Normally the back of the screen start to scarch due to vibration. I never put my phone into vibration when I place it on hard surface. I never put my phone together with other object such as key or coins in same pocket. The only time I use vibration when the phone is in pocket.
Some time I even joke to my friends that hero does not need screen protector because it has built in screen protection (chin that make screen never touch the surface) and even drag it on the table. My NS is arriving in a few days time. I don't think I'll be using any screen protector.
When I bought my Epic 4G a few months ago, I got talked into getting one of the screen protectors they sell at the Sprint Store. I hated it. It made the screen look dull and made it feel not right to touch. I took it off and decided never to buy another screen protector.
Then, I got my SNS and I got a case for it but I was amazed how quickly the screen accumulated fingerprints. I broke down and got Ghost Armor and now, I don't even use the case I bought for it. I love it. The phone feels so great naked and I love it.
The case with the coating coming off isn't necessarily due to using chemicals. If that were the case, the whole screen would've been affected, not just those few spots that were pictured.
My first NS had similar spots being affected and I never used anything on the screen other than a microfiber cloth.

Hiding a scratch on the Note's screen.

Hello everyone!
Well, to make my sad story short: My Note fell gently on the floor with the screen down and it slid around 20 cms on the floor. I guess there was sand on the floor because when I checked my screen had a ~1 cm scratch, thick as a strand of hair (God, I hate to remember that moment... ).
So well, when I use my Note I can see a rainbow effect where the scratch is, it isn't very noticeable for other people but I do see it when I use it, specially on white backgrounds or high brightness, AND I can also feel it with the S-Pen. When I got home I immediately started reading about screen protectors and ordered an SGP Ultra Oleophobic one, I'm still waiting to get it next week .
My question is: Some people claim that some screen protectors with wet applications (like XO Skins) can hide these scratches and I'm wondering if some of you guys with scratches on your Note have successfully hid them with these protectors. I'll try with the SGP one when I get it to see the results but I'm interested to know if the other ones work also.
Thanks a lot everyone!
I have used a Skinomi and it reduced a scratch significantly on 2 phones- I never thought that the fact it was a wet application may have helped a bit.... Thankfully, I put a crappy protector straight on my note..I scratched 2 gorilla glass phones within 3 days of getting them...I am a slow learner.

Here in Canada there are kiosks in the Malls for a company called "Ghost Armor" and the screen protectors they apply (you can get them full body skinned as well) cover and fill scratches (or at least the appearance of them anyways).
Its a good product but I dont know if you have them in your country...
ZAGG Invisible Shield will totally hide it. The adhesive fills anything. It covered a noticeable gouge on my old S2.

People should always use a screen shield/protector. I have the SGP Glas.t on my Note. It's also scratch proof. I tend to leave my phone in the same pocket as my coins.
Thanks for all your replies, guys! I'll see the results when I get the screen protector shipped and I'll post the results. If it doesn't work then for sure I'll try to get one of the ones you mentioned.

How does you S7 edge looks like now after not using any case?

Hi!
I am planning not to use any protective case/covers etc. accessories for my phone. Is it bad idea? Will Samsung S7 edge look like crap soon or it is scratch resistant and will keep nice look even after few months?
How does your phone looks like now after not using any protective covers? Could you post pictures and aprox time of usage?
Thank you, deff_ins
2 months - no protection , I'm carrying it in a pocket without other things like money or keys . No scratches at all , only fingerprints all over
Im a diehard screenprotector and case guy. Since I had been having so many problems finding a curved protector that sticks, and the ones that dont cover the edge looked like crap, I decided 2 months ago to go without a protector. I have a case that shows the edges well, and covers the frame nice.
After two months I finally have a 1/2 inch scratch on the face...nothing too bad and I will live with it...not sure how it happened but the glass has held up pretty well considering I am not a desk guy and am always using and doing things with my phone outside.
Overall Im surprised the glass has done well. That being said, and now that I have a scratch, I will be looking to get a protector again.

Well, good luck with living dangerously. I have my S7 Edge with the LED cover now for 8 months. During that time I dropped it 3 times. The first time the screen and digitizer were broken. The display replacement cost me Euro 260. 10 days after the repair, it dropped out of my pocket again. Invariably, it always lands on the screen because the LED cover flips open when it falls. Display glass cracked but digitizer still intact. After the first accident I had ordered a tampered glass screen protector from Hongkong. It arrived only 2,5 months later. When I finally got it and tried to fit it, half the display was unresponsive. When I tried to remove the glass protector the phone slipped out of my hand and dropped on the tiled kitchen floor. Guess what happened. Part of the display AND the glass protector shattered. The lucky part is, the upper right corner of the display which was cracked before got shattered. The display is still useable. I actally got used to the broken display. My hope is that in the new year the price for a new display might come down a bit. As I'm not planning to buy another expensive phone anytime soon, a second display replacement is probably the cheapest option.
Bottomline: Yes the S7E is a bloody fragile phone! Depending on the individual clumsiness, it is virtually impossible to assume that you will never drop it over an extended period. If you want to have solid protection you have to go for these hideous army style covers but they make the phone look like a monsterous thing. I like covers with functionality like the LED or S View covers but they only protect the edges and backside of the phone.
The Bottomline of the bottomline: Maybe I shouldn't have bought such an expensive and fragile phone in the first place. End of story. Cheers LJ
Back near camera cracked on mine even though I've never dropped it, had to put a skin on it to hide the crack. Also it has a mark on the main screen, suspect coinage in my pocket done that
Never used a case, I've had mine since two weeks after the release. I always carry it in my pocket with my keys and other stuff. Dropped it only once, no scratches cracks or any other damage.
Been using Carol Blue for 2 months. I slapped a dbrand skin on the back the 1st week so I can use it naked and not worry about back glass scratches.
At office and work, I go naked. Out and about, I put on spigen rugged case. Very easy to put on and off and slim enough and plenty protection.
The front screen now has few minor scratches on it. No idea how that happened. I'm very careful with my phone.
I just put armorsuit screen protector on it and it works PERFECT. loving the phone and how it feels in the hand. Amazing. I now have dbrand skin on back and screen protector on the front. Totally protected from scratches when going with no case at home and office.
i never ever used a case in my life. it hides the beautiful lines of the device
Take it from someone who has been through the process of having the screen replaced - use protection!
I dropped it on its face, from toilet height (yes, I was on the bog after a long night shift!) and before turning it over I just knew it was bad. You hear 30 seconds of cracking noises as they tear through the display glass slowly whilst you contemplate your stupidity at the 'oh s**t' moment you just found yourself in.
Cost me £50 in excess as I was insured luckily, however with no insurance you're looking at £200 ball park.
I actually had the LED case on at the time. That did naff all in protecting the screen. Flip cases really should have some sort of auto close feature! Might have been enough to save the screen if so!
I always thought about going without anything, but I love the led case to much. I don't know how so many people have broken theirs while also using this case, I've dropped it more times than I can count. Even especially since I typically keep the phone on my lap when driving, so I tend to open the door, stand up, and find it on the asphalt ground.
I still even have the square sticker on the back of my phone. No scratches, no breaks, perfect.
Update : just wanted to update my previous post with this new information. I ordered and received the ArmorSuit screen protector for my S7 Edge. I have never used a wet screen protector before and I have never found an edge screen protector that sticks or works either in the dry form or the tempered glass.
I watched the video on installation. it took me about 10 minutes to put it on. I let it air dry for another 15 minutes then using a hair dryer on low setting I got the sides to easily adhere to the screen. Left it overnight, put on my I-Blason edge case. I have never been so happy as I have with this screen protector on it looks amazing. Edges stick perfectly.
I'm glad to have my screen protected again and the case on ..I just don't think it's worth taking the chance with such an expensive device. I lived on the edge for a few months with nothing on it, but I'm glad I have something back on it now.

I wish I took a picture of the device I just returned. Dropped it and it fell on a rock. Ugly circular crack and a first the phone still functioned but after about a week my screen just went haywire and would only turn on after multiple power on and offs.
It was all bad lol

Screen Scratches?

Any one else notice how easily the screen on this phone scratches? I have 3 massive scratches and lots of small ones.
Screen protector is a must. I have not noticed as I wont even touch a phone without at least film on it.
Gorilla glass always has gotten micro scratches so that is my reasoning.
I have not had a screen protector on any or my phones till now this Ive had the phone like 2 weeks it looks worse then phones I have had for years
I've never had a screen protector on a phone, mainly because I suck at putting them on and even a speck of dust or a small air bubble will anger me. This phone, though... I've heard a lot of issues with micro scratches. It seems to scratch very easily. I thought that Gorilla Glass was supposed to be scratch resistant. I had my Note 4 for three years and had one minor scratch the entire time.
I am totally babying this thing. I barely touch it lol. I am really rethinking the screen protector thing.
Everyone is different. Screen protector and case is a must if I don't want damage.
My wife uses phones for at least 12-15 months and most of her stuff look brand new.
House rule, I can't leave carpet without screen protector.
In the note 7 forum, there is the same exact topic, then, it was exacerbated by the faulty jerry rig miscarried test, later it was overly accepted that the screen was not the problem, that people tend to not recognize when the scratches were made, I do not know if that is the case now, with the note 8
I've had my Note8 for a month now with a screen protector on and off of it. No scratches on the screen yet (fingers crossed) and I'm switching between the Alcantera and Plastic Samsung cases. But my girlfriend's phone got super scratched on the back while in a case no idea how it happened there was no debris and the case is TPU. Her screen protector is already showing scratches as well but that's what it's there for.
Composed on Galaxy Note8
No screen protector since release day, all is good on my end. Was the same with my Note 5 for the entire time I had that phone. I guess it's just a personal habit/luck/environment factors that play into it. Sucks that you're having to deal with it. Maybe a screen protector can help hide some of the effects.

Same here. I never use a case or screen protector. My Note8, like all my previous phones, has no scratches whatsoever on the screen; the back is scratch-free as well. I've been using the phone extensively for more than a month.

Yup. Many people report scratch-free unprotected phones, while others report being as careful as they know how but still getting scratches or cracks.
The note 7 and note 8 I believe use gorilla glass 5.
It is more shatter resistant, but seems mote prone to scratches. Corning disputed that stating it was material transfer.
For me, it doesn't matter what you call it if I can't wipe it off.
I started using screen protectors when I bought the Note 2. I didn't want to take a chance in damaging my s-pen then using it and scratching my screen.
I've never used a screen protector until the Note 7 with Gorilla Glass 5. I tried the film protectors and they turn my flagship phone into a K-Mart device. I was going to spend the $$ on the protector shown here.
http://www.mobilezap.com.au/64792-w...galaxy-note-8-full-cover-screen-protector.htm
Before I spent the money on this I thought I'd try a cheap one and make sure I didn't hate having it on there. I ordered one of these cheap protectors from eBay (link below) for $10 and it is actually decent. I don't think there's any reason to get the nicer full adhesive loca glue SP. One thing I like better about the cheap eBay SP is that it is truly full coverage without the notch at the top. Sensitivity is great and not a speck of dust in over 2 weeks.

I've had the Whitestone dome on for a week now and I love it.
I got my original note 8 on October 1st and left the original protector in place, until the Dome came in. After the second day the factory protector started to peel. Once I peeled it off there was as scratch within a day. I started a warranty exchange to get it replaced. The replacement had a bare screen for less than 5 minutes before I installed the Whitestone dome.
I also left the temporary screen protector on until my actual screen protector arrived. It's odd that the Note 7 had a screen protector installed out of the box but the Note 8 didn't.
I pull my pocket out and Flick all that I can off of it in the morning before I put my phone in...seems to work.
So I thought it would never happen to me! Pull my phone out my pocket, check the screen and bam, two nice ugly glaring scratches.
What's going on?? I have babied this thing since I got it, even putting napkins down on any surface before placing the phone down. Pockets had nothing but the phone in.
Very sissapoonted, especially after having to return my 1st note 8 because of insane bezel light bleed!
NEVER have used screen protectors either, as I dont usually keep phones longer than 3-4 months. However, I did notice minor scratching on my S8+, were I never had scratches on any phone before. Going to throw a protector on this as I agree, as mentioned earlier, these screens lately seem to be way more prone to scratching...almost like they are going backwards, shouldnt they be getting less prone??

What's going on?? I have babied this thing since I got it, even putting napkins down on any surface before placing the phone down. Pockets had nothing but the phone in.
Very sissapoonted, especially after having to return my 1st note 8 because of insane bezel light bleed!

Ouch. Is there any way to fix or minimize that, besides getting a new screen put on? I'm getting nervous to even touch my phone.

NEVER have used screen protectors either, as I dont usually keep phones longer than 3-4 months. However, I did notice minor scratching on my S8+, w[h]ere I never had scratches on any phone before.

I too had retired my unprotected phones in pristine condition until the S8+, which somehow accumulated several small scratches on the rear glass (but none on the front). But my unprotected Note8 is still scratch-free, front and back, after almost six weeks now.
I've seen speculation that the oleophobic coating may be too thick on some of these phones, and the coating may be what's showing shallow scratches. That sounds plausible, but I don't know how to tell if it's true.
Lol... there is nothing wrong with the Note 8 screen nor the 8/8+. My son has the 8 and no screen protector. And. .has dropped it.. in his pocket all the time..with keys.. and I just checked it yesterday.. Not ONE TINY LITTLE scratch. So.. if there is some scratch.. you/i did it some how. Like so many things in life its ALWAYS someone else.. not just .. I did it. There will always be some that drop the phone get a crack on the screen and then post and blame Samsung. Yet..happens all the time.
I have had this phone since September 7th with not screen protector on it with not one scratch on it. But my phone only goes in one pocket my left pocket always and nothing else goes in that pocket ever. That pocket is for phones only. Now I do have the Nano liquid screen protector on it. So maybe they work really good. Look on YouTube and see the scratch test on this phone. It is the same as any phone with Gorilla glass 5. The glass on this phone is so slick surprised that anything scratches it.
