[Q] Infoalarm.apk and JW5 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All!
I have had installed infoalarm.apk with official JVH (XEN) last year following the procedure of rooting and installing in system/app and it worked.
When JW1 came to Kies I upgraded and rooted but there was no way to reinstall infoalarm.apk nor samsung_weather_widget.apk in the system/app. Last week I upgraded to JW5 and it is still the same, no way to install it.
I have been searching in the forum and there are hardly no quotes about this problem. Anybody has an idea why and is there a way to fix that? thanks in advance for your help

Help, Anybody?

I think your problem is related with odex. If your ROM is deoxeded you may have problems with this kind of apps. Just investigate around and check that you are putting the file in the right path.

No my rom is not deodexed, it is the stock rom with semaphore kernel. I already searched all the forum and it seems that nobody report this kind of problem. It happened since the JW1 update

[Q] After JPK Swype no longer works

Hey guys,
Tried to search but didn't find anything, hope this isn't a dupe.
So after I had JPK for a while I noticed that Swype didn't work anymore. I figured it was because it had no languages. I tried the Swype 2.4.44.110814 technique described in the Themes section but I just ended up with the same issue.
Is this a know problem I didn't find? Is there a solution? If no current solution, can someone think of one? Would getting the files off someone's I9000M running JPK work?

[Q] Rooting or Flashing 2.3.3

Hello,
I would like to try flashing my rogers captivate to ICS. Nothing fancy just a astable bug free ICS. However I am on 2.3.3. I updated through KIES a while back and now I have no idea how to root my phone or install roms. I am afraid the last time I looked into this everything was very different. I have read the forums but am still a little anxious.
Is it possible to root and then install CWM or something to install roms from my current 2.3.3 version? If so how may I do it?
Any help is greatly appreciated
Christopher
By reading all the stickies and reading some more info, you will be a genius at this stuff by the time you're done...
Yeah thats what I am kinda trying to avoid. I have to hack and read so much already it gets really tiring having to keep up with it all. Add to this work and school and its like info overload. I was hoping there might be an easier way than earning another mini phone phD. Thus far I have determined I have to change my kernel... I think? My phone is unrooted. Stock 2.1 to 2.3.3 KIES.
This Site is mentioned for developing. That being said for the rest of us, we are supposed to learn. The reason it's important to read and understand is you can potentially kill your phone.

What was your ROM before, stock ? custom? please be a little more specific. If it was a stock ROM you shouldnt be flashing custom ROM's without the knowledge of how to return your phone to its original firmware. Search the xda forums for your answers as there are many good threads, I would recommend starting with this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551156 to help arm you with some knowledge. Goodluck.

Use Odin to flash to stock firmware. And next time make a backup from your stock ROM using CWM.
