So, I bought a new router a few days ago. Installed dd-wrt on it, got everything hooked up, PC, laptop, PS3, etc. Everything seems to be running smoothly except forum apps on my D4 and Nook Color. I cannot figure out why. Web browsing seems to run quickly and smoothly, but when I try to open up the XDA forums app or DroidForums app it takes FOREVER to load. If it loads at all. Switch to 4G and loads up fast. Speedtest app shows 9.21 Mbps down and .98 Mbps up so speed is not the issue. Netflix streams find on PS3. It really seems to just be the forum apps that have a hard time. Both on the D4 and my Nook Color. Any ideas? Is there a dd-wrt setting that I screwed up that could be causing this?
Just for kicks, did you setup the same subnet (network addresses)? I bet if you clear the app cache for the forum app it will behave after. Unfortunately you will have to start fresh, but it will likely fix your issue. I suspect DNS cache or something similar.
You could titanium backup the settings proir to wiping if you find cleaning the cache doesn't change things.
This is really not the forum to discuss ddwrt, but I don't think you could have a layer3 issue that would cause slowness in just one app on a device.

Thanks! I actually posted about the issue in the forums over at dd-wrt.com but haven't received a response over there. I will try you suggestions. I'll let you know what happens!
So i have now tried clearing cache, clearing data, uninstalling and reinstalling the apps. I even tried factory resetting the phone. Nothing is working. Can't understand it.

Fixed!!! I had to change the encryption settings from tkip to aes. Everything is connecting flawlessly now!

I'm having the SAME exact issue. A few people here have offered advice which didn't work for me, but mostly I'm ignored because it seems to be "my problem" since not enough people seem to be having this issue.
If I flash back to stock using ODIN market downloads are snappy again.

Clearing data didnt work

Is this happening on 3g or wifi connection?
I have seen this issue..i have three captivates all running cog5.5 and only one seems to have occasional problem with market...not sure exactly what causes problem but toggling wifi, clearing cache or rebooting seems to correct it
I am not patient so I don't wait an hour for a download....if it does not work I just try the above in that order and usually one of the first two works but reboot always fixes

It happens in 3g and its all the time, each and every single download. In wifi its normal and snappy. I know its not my network coz web is fast and everything. Rebooting doesnt work too, clearing market data too so what else could I do?

Just because your browser experience is good does not in and of itself completely eliminate your 3g connection a being the cause. One thing to try is attempting market downloads from a few different locations - this would help eliminate your data connection if your experience was the same at different locations.
I have a few more questions. have you flashed any custom roms? if you have flashed did you restore apps and data with TiB? Are you running any lag fixes? Are you using any task killers?
The downloads are the same everywhere and with browsing its faster than the iphone 4 I even compared them. Im runing the cognition 5 beta I think, I never restored anything and never screwed with the one click lag fix

Settings» About Phone - the build number at the bottom wil tell you which version of cog you are running.
When you say the market is slow everywhere - does it always everywhere jump out to a certain percentage than drop off to a slow crawl? And when you say everywhere - how many different locations and how far apart were they?
When you cleared the market data cache did you force close the market app first before clearing the cache?
And are you using any task killers?
Im actually runining cognition beta4, and im using the defult tast menager that came with the rom. Its all over the place, I could be 30 miles away from home and the downloads speed for market are slow. Usally it jumps to 14% or 33% and than just slows down like crazy and goes by 1%

It sounds like something is corrupted that market uses on your phone that is causing your network connection to crash while downloading. If the following does not clear it up you may need to reflash cog
go settings» wireless and network and put your phone into flight mode.
Then go settings» applications» manage applications - go to the "All" tab - scroll down and select the market app - here select force stop - then select clear data.
Then reboot your phone.
Turn off flight mode and retry your market.
Ok so I did what you told me, with no results. Still the same. How would I flash to beta 5 cognition? Can I just install it using rom menager and install it over the version I have now? Also how would I do it without losing anything. Also thank you for trying to help me!

Unless you go through the kernel swapping steps rom manager will not work with COG 2.2b4. Secondly - to be sure and get rid of what ever is causing your problem you wil be better off doing doing a full wipe anyway.
I use google contacts (www.google.com/contacts) and google colander (www.google.com/calendar) and then sync my phone with those each time I am done flashing. I move any pics, movies, and documents I want to save to my external sd card - and then I remove my external sd card for the flashing process (i also keep a backup copy of all these things on my pc). Any apps can be re downloaded from the market even the paid ones as they are linked to your google account.
I seem to gave a rather interesting issue with my phone. Firstly, I'm running Cognition 2.3b6. When I first put this ROM on my phone I could install apps from the market over WiFi, but I'm now unable to. The last program I install was FTPFileTransferFree and used it to transfer a file over WiFi from my computer. I can still install apps from the market over 3G, and presumably EDGE as well. When I try over WiFi it'll download the file, but then won't do anything with it. Never seen, heard, or had this happen on other builds so it seems like it's just me. Anything I can do to fix it other than wiping my phone and reinstalling? That is rather drastic for such a trivial problem.

You changed your android id? Try clearing the market cache and try again.
Swyping...please read slowly!
Any app I try to download is telling me I require wifi. Anyone have any ideas what's going on? I'm kinda kicking myself for rooting now.

hmm my apps are working .. can you give an example of an app? i will give it a try..
Movies app is just 1 of many.

Right after rooting I tried downloading "QuickPic" and it did nothing. It said downloading app but it just did nothing. After I rebooted it started up again. Just a fluke maybe? Seems okay now.
EDIT: Tried downloading something simple like "Target" app. It froze up again for a couple seconds, started downloading at 5kbps and they shot up to complete. Laggy for sure.
hmm i am installed just fine in 4g areas... i did notice it seemed slow in a 3g area though...
just downloaded movies without issue.. rebooted and still there... are you in a 4g area? decent signal strength? otherwise i am out of ideas...
I'm in a pretty solid 4G area. Can I factory reset while rooted? I read that someone has done it.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
i had to do a factory reset root was still there and it solved my contact problem i created
Just rooted
Just rooted, downloads and installs fine from the apps market with both wifi or 4g.
Factory reset corrected the problem.
I just completed the Root'ing of my mobile. At first I tried getting on to the Market and using the browser, but couldn't get a internet connection. I powered down the Bionic and then turned it back on. Everything worked like a charm after that.
I've been having problems with my mobile data working properly recently. The strange thing is Tapatalk works fine. But all browsers, Friendcaster, etc. will not connect. I've tried toggling Airplane Mode and Mobile Data, resetting default APN, changing modems/kernels/ROMs...no dice. I've even tried yelling at it and cursing it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Edit: Could something I'm restoring in TiBu be messing things up?

To test the second question, do a fresh flash and don't restore anything...
This is a weird issue, and I can't seem to figure it out. When I'm on my home network, I have really, really terrible lag with Facebook's mobile app *only on my phone*. I mean, it takes about 10 minutes for a pic to load. Any other app (on my phone) that connects to Facebook will lag really bad connecting to FB, as well. I've got Comcast and Speedtest will give me >100Mb/s on my desktop, hardwired to the router, and my phone will usually give me >50Mb/s. I've got an ASUS RT-N56U router, so I don't think that's the issue. I've tried both 5GHz and 2.4GHz, and they both have the same issue.
If I use the FB app on any other wifi network, or 4G, it works just fine. Any other tabs, iPhones, laptops, etc. work fine on my home network.
The thing is, it wasn't always like this... When I first got Comcast set up, everything worked fine. The problem seems to just have happened one day, and the only thing I changed on my phone was installing Transparent Weather Clock. Of course, I tried uninstalling it and seeing if anything changed, but no luck.
I am on 4.3 NB4, rooted.
Any help is appreciated! TIA!
Have you tried wiping the Facebook app data or uninstalling and reinstalling it? I've had funky problems with the Facebook app in the past and wiping the data or a fresh download from the Play Store always fixed it.
Thanks for the tip... I tried that, but ended up with the same results. Did a data wipe, then tried erasing FB completely and then re-installing.
I mean, the baffling part is that the app and all things connected to it work fine everywhere else... Even on much, much slower internet connections. I can't figure out why it works so poorly on my home wifi, when all the other devices work just fine.

You have a external sd? If so go in there and go to Android/data/ and see if files left over for Facebook in there. If so delete them. Then in app manager go to Facebook and clear everything you can. then uninstall. Clear cache. Reboot. Reinstall. See if it works

I do have an external SD... However, I checked and there is nothing about Facebook in there.

An update... I don't believe the problem is isolated to Facebook. Facebook just happens to be the most bandwidth intensive app on my phone. Other Internet services run more slowly on my home network than elsewhere. Maybe this will solve some mystery. I am starting to think it's a router setting.
