Word of caution........ No one has proven that this or any other method.. is without risk...... The Risk of Bricking is still too High..... please consider that before flashing something to see if it really works..

Hi guys....
finally Sammy gave us a real ICS bootloader, and a new kernel (LPF), I managed to flash it to my Note and all went fine....
I'm nearly sure that THIS IS THE KEY, no more BRICK, no more deep sleep problems, no more "failed to restore" nandroid....just flash THIS with ODIN 1.87, run "download mode" on your Note, open Odin, select "bootloader" and flash it....then flash CF LPF kernel with mobile Odin
I'm preparing TMT1.3 to check if I'm right...
first successfully nandroid restore (combined with LPF CF kernel) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26245707&postcount=190
and TMT1.3 beta testing

May i flash new bootload with mobiOdin?
I'm not that brave to try it first but i'll follow the thread with feedbacks
Who have lpy stock firmware and have ballz of steel please flash this bootloader and try to do wipe data at cwm recovery >
Many thanks maxicet should we expect new rom from you

i feel so naked without knowing i can trust my CWM in flashing, restoring and wiping
I'm looking for that guy I've read a few days ago here on the forum, which has a "business" GNote and had no problems even if he brick it...
The ULTIMATE test will be to restore a nandroid backup..
million dollar question:
does the bootloader solve the brick phenomena? waiting for elite developers to dig and give their observations...
has anyone tweeted CF?

yes, and apparently his device is in the repair centre from the lp5 brick and wont be able to confirm until he gets it back
Somebody posted in another thread that Chainfire has got his Note bricked because of LP6 kernel so he can't test if bootloader is fixed and free of hardbrick
Anyone try flash it already? Any outcome/feedback?
Sucessfully Flash it using mobile odin pro. Will see if the deep sleep problem goes away
Currently on LPY stock with CF-Root LPY kernel

Would someone tell me if I can flash this via mobile odin? and what is the exact process that I have to do with both PC and mobile odin? I appreciate if someone can tell me and maybe others would need these instructions I'm currently running rooted stock GB LC1.
Thanks in advance

Hi Maxicet,
What would you require someone to try would it be flashing the new bootloader and then try restoring a nanadroid backup. Would this be a nandroid of gingerbread or ICS LPY rom. I would have a go at it for you. Im at work at the mo but let me know what you want me to test and I will do it. I can get my note replaced no problem.

ok, best test is : starting from a LPY ICS rom with CF root LPY kernel, flash OP bootloader with ODIN PC (I did it with 1.87 version)
Try to do a nandroid backup (with CWM recovery) and after reboot, try to restore it.
Second test will be to restore a GB nandroid backup....

Hey Guys! Im going to explain how i got my self in this situation
I got my new Note 2 days ago and decided to root it at first. (KK4)
Which i did but not with CWM Manager so i used the InitialCFRootFlasher to get CWM Manager working.
Then i used Odin to flash the XLA4 on my device so i could get the RocketRom after that. But now when i want to go inte CWM Recovery mode to do a Nandorid backup i just get to the original recovery mode. And when i open CWM manager it says that i need a CF-Root V5.0 or newer.
What should i do? Really didnt know how to search for this so sorry if there already is a thread about this.
Please help me out guys
Dont wanna ruin my phone because i didnt know better
Thanks in advance!
Keep calm mate, don't worry.
I just wonder if your phone is properly rooted or not. If it is ok, you can download and flash CF-Root for LA4-v5.0 here http://download.chainfire.eu/140/CF-Root/SGN/CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LA4-v5.0-CWM5.zip
If not, you can read clearly this topic, thanks to CF to solve your problem:

If you have use PC odin to get LA4(and seems you did it), then simply, you have lost Root + CWM.
N LA4 is not necessary b4 Rocket ROM.
If above is true, you have just option to downgrade n Re root + CWM
Oh, didnt see the replies before i edited it, i solved the problem just like u described in ur post taycuong76
didnt scroll down enough to see that there was a CF-root for the LA4
thx anyway love to see the great support and that everybody wants to help even if there already is a thread about this. Just makes me more satisfied with switching from the toy iphone 4 to a real phone
Got rocketrom on my phone now, just amazing that there are so many custom ROMs to choose from
Thanks again guys
EDIT: "unEdited" my thread for anybody that find themselves in this sitauation
Just dont panic like i did
I know this is a very stupid question but I just want to make sure flashing with CWM is viable.
For the leaked stock ics 4.0 rom I know I should use odin to flash, but how about custom 4.0 rom like Romow? Should I use CWM to flash the zip file?
Thx~
ps: I am currently running rocketrom v19 with CWM
use CWM n flash zip

There are no instructions in romow's thread and that's why i am here to ask for any further instructions. I bet flashing a 4.0custom rom is similar to flashing Gingerbread rom. Am i right?
Also, some ppl claimed that I need to first flash the stock leaked 4.0 rom then have my phone rooted with CWM installed and finally flash custom 4.0 rom with CWM. Is that really necessary?

There are better roms now than ROMOW's one i think, try flashing Rocket Rom, or the new AOSP
From the instructions given in [02/24/12][Team Rocket ROM][open beta ICS v4.0.3][v1.5][15Tooglebar] daily ROM now! , it seems I really have to flash the leaked ics rom first before installing the rocketrom 4.0.3 rom, is that true? That means I cannot directly install the ics rocketrom from any gingerbread custom rom?

Just have to ask it right here as well...I went to romow yesterday for testing reasons (just flashed the zip in cwm) but I have to go back since there are too many bugs imao atm.
Just tried to go back to my CWM Backup....now I´m stucked at the bootanimation!
Do you guys know what could be the reason here? And what I could do to get my nandroid backup working again?

Did you flash 4.0.3 directly from gingerbread rom? BTW I've heard many people say their phones were stuck in the bootscreen(The samsung N7000 with no boot animation) when they tried to go back from ics to gingerbread. Seems this is a common problem....

Yes, I came directly from GB!
If you can load the boot animation that means ur phone is not bricked. You should try to download a stock gingerbread rom from dr ketan's post and flash it by odin pc.

When going back to GB, i kinda 'restart' the whole process by going back to Stock ROM via Odin, and redo the root and CWM.
Else, there are strange quirky issue ex. CWM just hangs while wiping the phone.

Should be this one(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997).
Firstly, download one of the roms from [Older ROMs (Directly Rootable)].
Secondly, follow the [Installation Guide For Older ROM ], the one using odin pc.
You may see below another flashing method using mobile odin, but that doesn't suit you since that one requires your phone rooted before and will keep your root after flashing. The one with odin pc will wipe out all your data and apps(of course not your SD card) and also unroot your phone. That means your CWM and root will all be gone and you have to follow another post to root it again(now this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360)
this one(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997)teaches you how to flash a rootable gingerbread rom, but not rooted. This one(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360)shows you how to root your phone and install CWM. I think these two posts are the best tutorials you are looking for.
I think you should download this >>http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=907734&d=1329574136
This one is better organized.
Thanks mate! Saved it to my desktop...but finally i was able to manage the problem by simply flashing a *fresh* RocketRom again (?!). I thought it would be worth a try...
Anyway: Thank you very much for your support, it´s good to still meet that friendly kind of people with patience here on the board (it´s getting less these days) hope i´ll be able to return the favor in future

As far as I remember I made my very first steps with odin after I reveived my note (root, cwm)...rocket has been flashed by using cwm. But yes, my binary counter increased definitely...
...I do have a USB Jig, but in some was I am kind of afraid of going trough this! To fumble around in pure darkness...hmmm i don´t know
Have you tried it yourself?
Actually I've got a yellow triangle together with increased binary counter as I followed another tutorial guide(I should follow dr ketan's guide before).
I think removing the counter with a jig is way too dangerous for me so I don't want to risk it. Simply remove the counter only when you really need to bring your phone to samsung because maybe you don't even have to claim the warranty at all.

1. Install Mobile Odin
2. Flash REPACK_LP1 CF
3. Let Rom Boot
4. Go to CWM and flash LiquidSmooth
5. Wipe Data, Wipe Dalvik/Cache

As the install guide says you are meant to flash the repack and then go into recovery and flash the rom. You will likely need to flash a gb kernel via obin and then do as hia install guide says

Well i am not 100% sure, tbh your safest route would be to re flash a stock gb rom then root it and then try again just to make sure theres no issues, in which case you can download a gb rom from the sticky in the dev section (make sure its a older rootable image!) and flash using odin while your phone is in download mode
please start at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 then/or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
i am hoping of course, that you can still somehow manage to get into download mode.
I has almost the same issue! I am running speedmod kernel and i want to put back the cf-root 5.3 kernel so I flashed the tar which was included the zimage via mobile oding and after reboot the phone gave me a blank screen and no recovery! only downlaod mmod where I can manage to flash speedmod again via pc odin...
why is that happend?
Come on mate have you even read the opening page for the liquid smoother rom on all opening pages it tells you to the letter how to install and yet you don't follow it and wonder y you have a black screen. Have you installed clock work recovery after rooting your note if not search how to install cwm on you tube cursed4eva is a brilliant guy who spells it all out for you- . Please don't use the fact you a noob as an excuse as I'm probably newer than you but can read and follow instructions to the letter as the developer knows best.
W00t! The phone came back to life! Thanks alot.
Now, what i dont understand is that repack_lp1 thing. I downloaded I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK.tar ... now do i flash this one using mobile odin? Will this install the CFM?
Look for cursed4eva on YouTube watch the video were he shows you how to install clockwork then read the op of liquid smooth rom simple !
Please do some more research before randomly flashing files without having any knowledge as to what they do.
Before you start fiddling with repacks and leaked ICS based roms, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633938
If you still think it's a good idea to flash anything based on the leaked ICS builds, go to the thread of the rom you want to flash and read the instructions. Again, read the instructions and then to be sure read the instructions once more.
Then follow the instructions step by step and you're good to go.
From my rooted GB Chrack's rom I just used PC odin to flash AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar then I flashed Liquid Smooth rom without problem. However you should follow the instruction from their website.

plz what ics leak mean ? i am new to android world
what is the difference between ics leak and repack and stock and other expressions?
what is the difference between kernel and firmware expression ?
give me example ( stuuner and canyon and lpy and lpf and gb )...
i asked this noob question as i am noob at flashing and i read alot about bricks and emmc bug for leak and repack ICS
now i am using lpf rooted ics + supersu
Ics leak is when the ice cream in the ice cream sandwich is almost melted and starting to leak. In all seriousness a leak is when a company accidentally loses a firmware version for a phone and it goes public.

The first ICS Roms for Note were buit on a DANGEROUS Kernel which came from a "leak". That kernel was responsible for bricking many devices due to its eMMC bug.
Now all the new ICS Roms are "fixed" by using new Kernels, but the problem continues if you go from an old rom (leak kernel) to a new one. There is a specific way to do it. You can read all about it in many threads.
If you tell me which Rom you want to flash and on which Rom you currently use i can give you more detailes!

You can at least post link to other thread with comment moved comment to seperate thread.
Do a flash back to stock gb throught pc odin, perform data factory reset through dialer, google for code ending something like 3855.
Root it and put cf kernel on it, perform factory reset from recovery, wipe caches and dalvik cache. Then reinstall rocket by flashing the zip in recovery.
After this do not recover apps just redownload from playstore. Do it one by one so you can eliminate which one is responsible. If thats case.
You loose data but also lingering crap from past that can cause fc an reboot. Now you can best disable keep device backup in Google cloud.
Last read all post in rocket thread. Should it return, there areprobably others with same problem. Check their fixes lmao

Ok go to first post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
All should become clear reading this thread. Its a sticky in developement with sceenshots on how to install. From development you can also find cf root.
Recap
Download odin, shut down kies and start it on pc.
Download your rom of choice, unzip it.
Turn phone off, turn on and push volume down, home key and buttun at same time, it should go to download mode, Its tricky, may need couple tries.
dont wait to long, connect to pc, watch added in odin, select extracted tar. Md5 file, the largest, put in pda, no repartition no clear efs.
Press volume button up to initiate download mode and select start on odin, if your download was ok, it should flash and show pass on odin.
If I were you I would dl gb rom, because from gb rom the samsung factory reset I mentioned earlier is safe. Usually this fixes bootloop itself, however on ics rom, custom, leak or official this is not safe. (except cm9 with xplodwild kernel)

Hi Guys,
I wondered if any of you (more experienced, long serving) users are aware of any Gingerbread ROMs? Preferably a CM or any 2.3.7 based, but if they don't exist, any build will do... It needs to be a safe build, a non eMMC bug version, or DeOxed (is that the term)?
Sure, you're gonna say, why bother.. There's JB and KK now, but I like GB and wanted to see what it's like on the N7000?
All help gratefully welcomed..
Thanks, Lister
all GB kernels are safe to wipe data (only stock ICS kernel is unsafe)
i advise you to try Checkrom HD v6, still my favorite GB rom

Hi @ASMI1,
Thanks for such a fast reply.. I've been to the main website where I can download it.. One thing I'm worried about, I've seen in this ROM and mentioned in another GB based ROM for our phones is: CSC?
the CheckRom v6 features "Multi CSC" what does this mean, and is it dangerous?
Do I flash Philz Kernel, and install with that? Do I need to flash another kernel afterwards? Does this room raise the counter or anything?
I'm OK flashing JB or KK, but not done a GB ROM and worried in case summit not aware of, don't want to brick this...?
Thanks, Lister

CSC means customer service code. Multi csc means that this rom is not locked to any country or carrier.
Yes you can flag it under philz kernel.

Hi @kaborayyan / @ASMI1 / Guys,
I've flashed Philz original Recovery/Kernel first, and then do all the usual wipes... Factory Reset, System, Davlik Cache (and even tried Pre-Load? after first failed) and same result each time.
During the flashing process it seems to backup the EFS (even though that was the first thing I did when I got this phone, so hope it hasnt over written my original EFS backup) but then gets stuck. It seems to stay on Flashing Modem for ages, and progress bar doesnt move... And then the phone goes black, and it reboots... But then gets stuck on the white Samsung splash screen "Samsung Galaxy Note - GT-N7000" and stays like that, unless I reboot....
I reboot, but notice CWM 5.0.2.7 is installed (not sure if thats a safe one?) so I flash Philz from within that, reboot recovery and then do all the wipes again... and the phone seems like normal again. However I dont know if I've done anything wrong, or if the phone is still safe or if I've killed it any way??? lol
Cheers for any help/support.
Thanks, Lister

Reboot into recovery again if you found the touch colored recovery then you're on philz kernel. If not be sure that you selected the suitable philz kernel.
If I helped hit the thanks button.
Hi @kaborayyan,
Yep, I'm certainly on Philz Kernel.... when it's loaded, its kind of a pink/purple-ish colour.... (not sure what version, but something like 5.1.1.1) It's the first one I downloaded when I got this phone a couple of months back, that I used to root/and then flash custom roms with... (namely, JB).
However, I fancy seeing what GB is like on it, but get stuck... it seems to hang on Flashing Modem, sits there, and then reboots without finishing by the looks of things...?
Its a UK Vodafone, N7000
Thanks, Lister
Did you try to flash a stock GB ROM through Odin? May be you get better results. Then root it and flash whatever you want of custom GB based Roms.

yeah like kaborayyan said, try to flash any stock GB rom using odin3 v1.85 only (you can find instructions and download links in the sticky thread in the orginal development section, you should look for mirrors because hotfile is down or just download chainfire prerooted stock rom)
After you get a stock rooted GB rom installed on your phone, install checkrom using the recovery after wiping data, cache and dalvik.
as i said stock ICS roms are unsafe, other roms are safe... just keep a backup of your efs
and be careful when using odin3.
btw, hitting the "thanks" button is easier than writing it
cheers

Go to www.samsung-updates.com firmware section. There are a few 2.3.6 roms available. Stock though. These roms might be non root able. Not really sure as there are not many methods of rooting GB (check Dr ketans thread for more info) . It could also be possible that for rooting again you will need to flash an ICS or JB rom again using Odin.
If you just want to taste the ginger then stock GB rom is quite fast.

Hi Guys,
I wondered if any of you (more experienced, long serving) users are aware of any Gingerbread ROMs? Preferably a CM or any 2.3.7 based, but if they don't exist, any build will do... It needs to be a safe build, a non eMMC bug version, or DeOxed (is that the term)?
Sure, you're gonna say, why bother.. There's JB and KK now, but I like GB and wanted to see what it's like on the N7000?
All help gratefully welcomed..
Thanks, Lister

Pristine LC1 is a good option. Its in the OP of the pristine thread. All GB kernels are safe, as above mentioned.
There is no 2.3.7 or CM based N7000 rom

Hi @ASMI1, @kaborayyan, @nokiamodeln91, @AndroidSlave,
Thanks guys, with you're help.... I've finally made it !!! It appears CheckROM HD v6 does not want to flash under Philz (or some other recovery, cant think what now??) However I did manage to get it to Flash under Abyss Recovery Kernel (which is based on GB kernel, apparently).
So it has flashed now, not had chance to play around with it yet as am at work... But just by looking at it, it's bringing back the GB love....
Yes I know it's sad, why go back to GB?? lol. But sometimes it's just nice to go over, for old times sake... Used to do it on my ZTE Blade many a times...
So, (quick questions).
1) With this stock-ish rom, can I remove/tweak/clean up, and then package it (in CWM) as a flashable rom?? or do I have to backup/restore only in that version of CWM??
2) It safe to flash any version of CM9, without using flashing a seperate recovery afterwards... and still avoid the eMMC. It's only official STOCK firmware that killed them....
Thanks once again guys for all your support, I know its not normal (and frowned upon) to use older firmware... But just wanted to see what GB was like again...
Cheers, Lister

1) not really unless you use a new version of philz touch recovery, which wouldn't happen because on the n7000 the recovery sits on the kernel, thus you are stuck with an old kernel and old recovery. As such your best bet is to do a nandroid backup. Further - when you restore such a backup, I recommend flashing abyss again first so you are in the Ame recovery it was made in
2) yes. Just be concerned of Stock ICS (4.0.4) with a custom recovery. Never flash temporary cwm.zip. matter of fact, just avoid stock ICS at all costs. Newer versions of cm9 are safe. Avoid very old cm9 versions. My personal recommendation to you would be Paranoid Android cm9 ( I think it stopped at around .4a) that one was amazing.
