In threads in the Optimus2X development forum I often see posts that praise the battery life using new ROMs or basebands or RILs. The numbers always surprise me and make me jealous. I have read about some guy whose phone loses about 3% battery during the night, or some other guy who still had 75% battery left after 7h of 'normal' usage.
Today, I unplugged my phone from the charger at ten in the morning and 3 hours later, I had 80% battery left, with the phone only resting in my pocket in standby. Now, about 8 hours unplugged from the charger and less than normal use (15 min browsing, one GPS localization, two SMS sent) I am 25% battery.
I have disabled WiFi, decreased display brightness to the lowest value, always disable GPS & bluetooth unless I need it (which is very rare).
I am currently on owain's CM9 build 62, baseband 313 and RIL 218. I have also tried BB 725/RIL 725 (which caused big problems) and BB 420 / RIL 1120. Both did not give me a noticeable longer battery life.
Whats up with my phone or battery? How can I extend my battery life to the numbers said in the beginning?
battery
buy a bigger battery
i have a 3500mAH battery
more then 2 day on 1 charge
look on dealextreme
12 hours 30 mins, with 25% battery left
Over locked to 1.4ghz
Screen on 2 hrs
Calling 2 hrs
So yeah , I guess its pretty heavy use...
It also goes alright (;

i would say something is definitely wrong with your phone, rom or kernel. i use my phone even to play, games like dead space and more, and my battery always lasts for 1 day at least, also oc'd to 1.4 ghz.

I had the same prob, But I solved it,
now my phone survives a full day with normal usage.
Receiving/sending mails tweets facebook post G+ browsing the web etc.
try to drain your battery until your phone shuts down by itself
then fully recharge it after that unplug it and start it up again,
I hope it helps it did so for me.

How long does everybodys battery life last here on average? Because its starting to become a hassle for me to keep a charge on my phone... I unplug y phone every morning at 8am, on my way to work, I plug my phone up to a car charger for about 30mins, then when I'm at work around noon I plug up my phone for a hour... and yet I still manage to kill the battery by 3-4pm... the battery wont even last a full work day, even with getting juice for 1 1/2hrs... thats rediculous in my opinion, 8am-4pm = 8hrs - 1 1/2hrs charging = 6 1/2hrs battery life...
At that rate, I need 4(!!!) batteries to last a full 24hours

Strange, mine lasts about 24hrs (approx) without charging, that's with moderate web usage, games (for about 1 - 2 hours) texting all day and atleast 3 - 4 hours talk time. I'm using the battery my kaiser came with.
Although I have used an assload of tweaks in regards to battery life (turned down brightness, turned off all LED notifications, +used most of the power saving tweaks used in kaiser tweak, then again my sound + vibrations are almost always off except for when i'm sleeping or when the phone is charging, and more i can't think of)
This has been discussed before, so it's worth searching.
Battery life has many variables but if yours is un-usually short then investigate your mail settings, checking every 5 minutes obviously uses more than every 30 minutes.
Check if you have the band switching problem and the solutions for that
Are you killing running programmes, including Active Sync.
Does the phone feel warm (around battery) when it's off the charger. (a sign of an application running but possibly blocked)
So do you kill wifi after using it or if you don't use it then is it running abyway - that will kill the battery. etc etc etc
The above is not a full list but should give some starting points for searches. In general I would expect around a day of low to medium use. If you only get a couple of hours then check the things above.
Mike
How much are you using the phone for bluetooth or wifi or 3g? If not much, then you're right.
I have Alex'x WM 6.1 beta2. It's been a full work day and I still have about 75% battery. I had the stock at&t rom then tried stock HTC rom. The HTC rom had pitiful battery life. I kept it for 1 day in airplane mode and it still died in about 8 hours. The at&t rom lasted about 14 hours. Alex's may last 3 or 4 days. His WM 6.1 gives me the best battery life out of all of his or anyone's rom that I've tried.
hmm well I use an exchange server, so I cant really configure how often it checks mail... I guess it checks constantly... I'm on the phone for maybe 2-3 hrs during work, if even that, i do text alot, and use OctroTalk IM client... Thats about it, i dont play music, i dont watch movies, and I dont play games, dont use bluetooth, but I think it uses the 3G all the time, I'm not sure, it allways says 3G up in top bar...
If flashing it with a new rom can help the battery life, I might consider doing that, is there any other befits from doing so? Over all I've been pleased with the over all performance of the stock rom... except this battery issue.

2-3 hours on the phone!! and constant mail checking!! I don't know about anyone else but for this type of phone I think your battery life is probably normal. I mean that's not far off half a working day on the phone!

We in the field in the army have no place to recharge the battery, so i have a second spare. After the first battery out, second battery i should calibrate or simply change it? Milestone generally maded to hot replace the battery? Second question: The battery is terribly wasted when data using. when browsing in the internet in dolphin 6.1. Even if 2g on and i in im+ messenger. A couple of sites get away even 1%-2%. An hour in nonstop browsing can drain 60%. YouTube has to look at all when the phone charging for viewing video over a length of 5 minutes, eats about 6% of charge. And i bought a new battery yesterday. And with the same old time of discharge. New battery calibrated. And tried to change the firmware on froyomod same. Right now sitting on the cyan 7 and the same flow rate. Last DSIfix 2..34.
PS. When data off - phone not using too much 2-3% when talking half hour. In the night can drain 3%.
You better calibrate the new battery after the new one charged to 100%
It calibrated already. Same ****.
I got same problem with my MS. Maybe it's high time to change to a new phone
Dieabolo,
What settings do you use for your display, your current frequencies with vsel, are you using this phone in areas with great reception, do you have programs that ate always updating running (Facebook, twitter, weather apps, Widgets, news /sports apps) ?
Also I do like dolphin HD but try the opera mobile browser it'll help by compressing data so therefore less data transferred which ends up with less power being consumed.

i know for a fact, because ive tested it, that i can pull 11+ hours out of my droid. what you need to do is port MIUI to it, then get a lowvoltage overclocking kernal on it. i have a kernal that is 18 slot, and it can run stable at 220 mhz/1.26 ghz on userspace. run it at 220 mhz/900 mhz. if you clock it lower, then the battery life will decrease because it has to deal with a larger load, therefore, giving you battery heat damage, which means no more battery for you! i found that if i run the hight at 900 mhz, then it will have a chance to deal with all of the load. if you put it at 1.0 ghz, then it will ahve the same effect, but if your going to game with the droid, then i would put it at 1.06 ghz. my phone specs: OG droid, OC to 220 mhz/1.0 ghz, running MIUI 108050 on android 2.3.4. have fun!
Two things I would recommend would be to perhaps try a low voltage kernel, and to make sure you don't have any battery-intensive apps running in the background (Ebay, Lookout, etc.). You can check this by going to Settings > Applications > Running Services and seeing which programs are running.
Also if you set profiles withing SetCPU or another similar app, you can have the kernel drop to a lower speed when your screen is off or when the battery drops below a certain percentage. Doing these things should help you save some juice.
EDIT: I just read on another thread that the milestone has a locked bootloader, meaning you can't change the kernel. If this is indeed true, that sucks.
I calibrate my battery with this method:
1. Plug the charger in the phone, and charge at 100%
2. Delete /data/system/batterystats.bin using Terminal emulator or whatever tool
3. Restart the phone, and when it start to boot, and before the soft keys shine take off the battery.
4. The phone will run without battery, after a few minutes (2-5) put the battery in.
5. Left the phone charge for another 30 minutes...
But with CM7 for Mileston RC13 my radio don't work, and I have to restart it again to have phonee signal.
Hi,
as I got the phone I already had bad battery life, so I made a factory reset, maybe it helps. It didn't, 1 hour of playing(not even 3d game) ate 40% of my battery, on 2g network and 40% display brightness.
I decided to put on the EURO open(jun 25) and root the phone. I uninstalled a couple of system apps(car home, unused apps, etc), and also put on minfreemanager on agressive settings(to kill background apps consuming battery).
It helped absolutely nothing. I disconnected the phone from the charger in the morning around 6am, and by now with approx 20 minutes of gaming, downloading it's only 75% left.
I also discharged my battery 2 times to 0%, and turned on repeatedly to kill the battery, and once recharged while it was on, once recharged while it was off. Helped also nothing.
some info if needed:
baseband: 1035.21_20110725
kernel: 2.6.32.9
build: FRG83G
LGE ver: LGP990-V10d
Please help, it would be such a good phone without this battery issue ((((((((

I installed it in the stock one, but it didn't help.
As I see I have problem when the phone is active, and I do something with it.
When my phone is sleeping it seems okay tho.
I played stupid zombies for 10 minutes just now, and it went down from 70% to 65%. This means every hour battery dies 30% which is actually 10% better then yesterday with the stock rom before this open EURO. It still is pathetic, that you can only play 3.3 hours and your battery is dead
My SGS was able to hold on at least until 5 hours with heavy usage.
I don't know guys my phone can last for 3 days only using for phone calls. Watching 2 hours of youtube can last 2 days.
Maybe because i don't use any Internet via mobile network.
I don't use task killers. After reading this http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
I always charge the phone when the battery goes to 0%.
Autobrightness is always on.
Always use 2G networks and Data is disabled.
Useing Modaco Fear edition 12.6.
with baseband 622.
with TW Launcher.
5 Homescreens full of widgets.
and useing Watchdog Task Manager for monitoring what app uses cpu most.
So im very happy with my phone with heavy use i can still manage 24 Hours (Browsing, playing, Youtube). And maybe 6-7 hours of max usage.
I had about 5 hours of battery life on idle when I first got the phone brand new. I'm getting about 40 hours on idle now with Fear 12.6. I'm still testing whether underclocking cpu while idle will improve battery performance. But i dont use any app-killer and do NOT use JuiceDefender, it doesnt work well with this phone. Havent updated baseband, using stock _20110405, make sure you have matching RIL to baseband, so dont simply update baseband.
Try cronos Tom, it has been optimized battery driver, I've just bought brand new 2x 2 days back, my battery was lasting hardly whole day with 2-3 hour wifi usage then i read somewhere its a known issue with with 2x, not same like ur case, then I try various roms the only rom that gave me longest battery life on my phone is cronies mod, try it

Alright, so the biggest complain to this phone is the battery life as we all know. Trying everything to stabilize the battery life, i have used many apps but no luck. One thing I have noted after trying to fix the battery with a calibrator (root required), I read my phone using 4.1V. This is strange because for a simple Watt calculation, you do w= amps x voltage. If the battery can only manage 1.5 x 3.7 or 5.55 Watts and my phone specifically is taking about 1.5 x 4.1 or 6.15 Watts, this means faster battery drain.
What I want to know if there is some sort of voltage control app or modification to the power management for the phone to remain within the V3.7 specified by the battery.
I will also say that randomly my phone decided to run no more than V3.7 on Feb 14 and this is what happened. I unplugged at 7:22 a.m and by the time 9:30 a.m Came, I was at 70%, but then my phone lasted until 6:15 p.m or 18:15 after that. And noted that i did regular texts (sent and received about 200) had a 15 minute phone call and about 1 hour and 15 minutes of bluetooth music playback (I use Bluetooth headsets **Jaybird SB2**) and some internet usage. Not 12 hours but better than the 4 hours most of us get.
What are your thoughts as well?
Juice Defender and/or Gingerbread
I use both gingerbread 2.3.5 and juice defender, still no luck. Just going to buy 3 batteries.
I wiped my internal SD and factory reset my phone, that did wonders. If you have GB and Juice Defender and your still having poor battery life there must be a problem that hopefully should be fixed with a clean slate, unless you have unrealistic expectations out of your battery.
I'll try what you have done and then ill let you know. But my battery is crazy bad. how many hours do you get? the percent drop is insane. its a little frustrating because my mind is always on battery percentage and my eyes are stuck to the notification bar looking at the battery instead of "enjoying" the phone.
I charge my battery every day.
I'm running 20C with Andida's 1980mah battery.
how often do you use it during the day? i have read that andida's 1980 only gives an extra hour
I used to get 18 or more with froyo and juice defender. Now I get similar on GB without Juice Defender that's with mild use like calls, texts, web surf. As soon as I fire up a game especially 3D ones ill charge immediately after just to be safe.
I play GTA 3 about an hour-two every day,and my wi-fi is never off
I flashed the Lestatious Biohazard Kitchen Rom after flashing the GB 21a baseband and my battery life is better than it's ever been.
buy a better battery
i brought an hyperion battery from ebay.... sure the battery is a little over double the thickness of a typical battery (it comes with a new back cover too) but the life of it is amazing!! i now can leave the phone (fully charged) for 6-8 hours while sleeping and wake up with the phone @ 97% and that's on the default rom.... best $18 ever spent
Hi,
I know there's a whole bunch of threads on battery life, but I cant seeing info that mentions the rate at which the screen consumes battery.
Anyway, I charged my phone from 1% to 100% last night and when I disconnected and started to use it, the battery had dropped by 4% with just 8mins of onscreen time (WiFi).
Is this battery depletion rate normal? (1% every 2mins, effectively around 3hrs)
Thanks
The battery doesn't actually charge to 100%. It's dangerous. The fact that it states 100% is just for show. It actually only charges to around 96% which is why it drops so fast at the beginning.

I have about the same battery discharge rate (1% for about 2 minutes of screen time with wifi). If it is on standby then it only drop 1% for every 2 hrs.

Just out of curiosity, why is it dangerous?

My Note does not fit this pattern. It takes 6 hrs on standby to drop from 100% to 99% and then 1% drop after that for every 2 hrs on standby.
I too charge to 100% or whatever 96% with my wifi on for 15 min and it droped to 97% no bad thogh

Wow, installed Juice Defender and have just reached the 24hr mark with moderate use.
Usage: 25-30% brightness, WiFi, GPS, Facebook, Web Browsing, Texts.
I still have over 50% battery life remaining
If consumption continues at this rate, I'll be able to get 2 days battery life which from a modern smart phone is pretty astonishing
Battery Life is too short
Didn't want to create yet another Battery Thread;
I'm getting lousy batter life.
I'll disconnect my SGN ICS at 7.30am and it's bellow 30% by 2.00pm.
I know I have A LOT of apps installed, but the Battery shows minimal consumption; it's always Display as the top consumer, with 31% responsibility.
My GSN has an unusual origin; it started with a CSC TTT which is from Trinidad and Tobago. I followed these instructions to the letter and got myself a working ICS SGN.
I was worried that by loading a European CSC would have adverse effects on an Mexican Network.
I don't know why, or how, but after the flash, I'm still with the TTT CSC.
The device performs flawlessly, except for the battery consumption.
Is it possible that flashing this ROM/CSC is responsible for the poor battery life?
I really enjoy ICS and would prefer not to go back to GB.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Yeh mt battery is kinda the same. I browse alot but not on my phone all day but i deffo have to charge ny phone once a day or even twice at times. Abit of a joke and im wondering what else can i do. I have updated to ics and no difference.

Juice Defender (free)
Gave Juice Defender a try.
the App recommends to allow for "a couple of days"; I'm guessing it adapts.
I've always been skeptical of "Battery Booster" apps.
Having said that, I'm pretty sure I have improved my battery life.
It's not "born-again christian" life changing, but there's definitely an improvement.
I'll try it for a week or so before I decide whether the ultimate edition is worth it.
I keep switching my cellphone off while not using, and same goes for wifi. Using it as a secondary phone as well. It lasts only 4-6 hours.. :S I keep closing background apps, and kill app once im done with it..
