Since upgrading will take you off the upgrade path, I was just wondering if there is something on the new build that isn't working.
Like camera, video, data etc.
Honestly, I wouldn't jump on it unless you really need it (I've heard it makes GSM work a lot better). AFAIK, it hasn't even been rooted yet, which means you are giving up a LOT just to get ICS, which you can do from the stock rom and safestrap.
If you root just before flashing and use voodoo rootkeeper you can keep root. I unfortunately forgot to re-root after I needed to flash SBF (wouldn't update). So far everything works for me. Well except root that is. But to tell you the truth. I only used root to change the build.prop and have write access to system (notifications etc). Owh and freeze apps. But thats it.
So far so good! The battery won't last as long as on 219. But by how much I'll have to test. On 219 I ran in 2G mode all the time. So it isn't a real fair comparison. Yesterday I turned off all sync and push and disabled some applications. So we'll see how long it will last today.. I took it off the charger around 07:50 AM. So don't expect an update 'till tomorrow. It's only 08:50 AM where I live .
For the gsm users i recommend this update if you can go with no root
The rom is actually more responsive and most importantly, it dun drop the line that often
And ics with WORKING camera & video, not much is missing actually
According to this, you can keep root if you install OTA Rootkeeper, back up root, temp unroot, restore root, and THEN apply the update.
I updated and kept root and am very impressed with every aspect of performance on this build.
Battery life the first day was excellent, above average considering I was playing with the phone a lot.
Radio performance on VZW's network with this new baseband is exceptional.
Data throughput and transitions from cellular to WiFi and maintaining data connection were all distinctly improved. I am in a marginal 3g only area where I live and work 90% of the time, but I can go a few miles away to get LTE coverage.
While I cannot openly recommend flashing non revertable leaks to anyone, I cannot say enough about how much I am enjoying this build right now. I have yet to find any downside beyond the fact that we have no full firmware files for this build yet.
This is a superlative build and anyone willing to accept the risk should not be disappointed.
25 hours later there's 30% battery remaining. Made 5 1-minute phone calls. Played about 20 minutes of 3D games. Used internet a couple of times (checked email, whatsapp, some internet apps) and I would say at 90% 3G connection. So that's not so bad I would say.
Stuff not Working
For me, my Facebook app (built-in) is not working, and constantly crashes. I finally disabled the app completely to stop getting the crash pop-ups.
Also, built-in MotoCast disappeared, and it does not show up for me in the Play Store (probably because they have not released an ICS version of the app for non-tablets yet in the Store).
Other than those 2 so far, everything I have tested and checked works like a dream come true.
Everything is working great for me. The ota rootkeeper worked as well. Im running the leak with root.. the facebook app that came on the leak needs update. Its an older version. May be the reason

Anyone else have problems with the headphone jack not working?
Everything seems to work fine for me so far.
Motocast is built in to "My Files", "My Gallery", and "My Music" now. I just installed it and seems to work fine.
Negative. Just drove 20 hours with headphones on.

Please be more specific about the headphones.
I haven't had any issues with Klipsch X10 headphones at all, but mine is only a 2 prong headset, without microphone or call control features.
I've had some odd headphone issues and I am NOT on the leak.
I'll plug in headphones, but the phone won't switch from the loudspeaker to the headphones. Unplugging and replugging the headphones in usually fixes the issue. Kind of annoying, but I use headphones so infrequently on my phone anyway that I haven't done any hard investigating on whether it is a software or hardware issue.
I'm leaning towards hardware though, because IIRC it happens on stock and the GB-ICS frankenbuilds.
This may be a stupid question but does anyone know if there is going to be a way to reverse being taken off the upgrade path? Im new to the forums and I just started getting into rooting and flashing roms. Im running a nightly build of the aokp ics with cm9. Im happy with it so far but would love to use my camcorder again lol. Are there any other issues with this version of ics?
I dont know about reversing the upgrade path but i do know that everything works really great on my d4 running the leaked ics.

You SHOULD be able to get back on the upgrade path using the same method others have used to go from the .200 ICS leak to the .206 ICS leak. That involves a partial flash of the .219 fastboot file to essentially trick the update into thinking you are still on .219. But there are no guarantees.
I see. Thank you for your input. One more thing does anyone know if the gummy rom has been updated? I was using it for a few days but decided to go to the aokp for better 4g functionality.

A test/stock anykernel for CM6 inc is up on rom manager under the Koush section. Please test it out and let me know how it compares. I am working on tracking down some instability issues.
Having issues with built in tethering says error. Pre 9 seems to work however after toggling wifi.
Anyone else?
Used it for a day...
I'd have to say one of the biggest downfalls was that it didn't have most features within the kernel enabled. I didn't notice any immediate problems even with the stock kernel, unless what I ran into (described below) might be involved.
When trying to initially download the new kernel via ROM Manager, I was in a location where cell was -120 dBm (basically non-existent) but I had Wifi. Wifi always seemed to take forever to link up, unless I went into settings (then it'd find the AP immediately and connect). ROM Manager basically said it couldn't do anything, despite having Wifi. I don't know enough about the inner Android workings to know if that's unrelated or not.
With the new one I noticed mainly I had very few governors to work with. TBH I only spent a day with it because I couldn't stand how often I ended up having to charge it. I don't OC so that sort of thing has never been an issue - just UC
Edit -- I should mention I'm using 2.15.00.09.01 baseband and CyanogenMod-6-09202010-NIGHTLY-Inc build. Haven't tried newer dailies yet.

At the moment, I'm using Miui but wanted to note that this is the only kernel which allows Pre-9 Wifi tether to work on Miui (in my hands, King's #1 and #2 AOSP kernels gave me errors with Wifi Tether). Thanks for providing this kernel, Koush. Will give it a try with CM and see how that goes.
I had a soft reboot last night with this new kernel while I was on facebook. 0 wifi used.
Radio 2.15.00.07
Not sure if it's the kernel or just the latest nightly, but I'm loosing my data connection quite often. Otherwise, its running great.

Funny, I'm running the test2 on Ruby as well. Been rock stable for 4hours. Practically a record for my phone on Ruby. Hope it makes it through the night.
Using the "test2" kernel.
Built in tethering works for me.
I'm running the 9/27 nightly.
No other issues so far.
P.S. I would love if internal memory was mounted properly in Windows.
Does anyone know if this new kernel is underclocked?

#2 is running at default clock.
So far looking good on test#2 for me (9.26 nightly). I just had a meeting in a location where the phone has frozen up nearly every time I was running CM 6.02 or any previous build and it worked fine. If I make it out to lunch, then back home later today without a freeze I think we may have a winner. Or at least I'll have a winner...
I grabbed the test kernel on friday night via the ROM manager, am I running the latest test, or is there a new one with the same name? In other words do I have to redo it to get the test #2 I am seeing comments about?
I am running test2 and my only issue is with wifi cutting out and erroring out when running things like streaming media in the background, but no reboots. Tt just cuts out the wifi, and resumes relatively well upon turning the screen back on. For some reason the screen being off sets off a timer that cuts out the wifi after a while. I've tested this with both Pandora and Slacker. No cut outs when running over 1x CDMA (3G doesn't work in my office) except when my signal becomes nonexistant.
My Droid 4 seems to have issues maintaining a wi-fi connection to some networks.
At home, it will connect and work for a while, but eventually stop passing data. It will still show connected, though. It will stay in this state until I turn wi-fi off and back on again.
At work, it often has issues connecting and will show "authentication problem" even though the credentials are correct. With enough trying, it will eventually connect, but won't stay connected.
iPhone, iPads, PCs, Macs and other types of Android phones work OK on these networks.
My old Droid 3 had the same issue.
On some other wi-fi networks, it seems OK.
What gives?
I'm currently a recent build of CM9, but it did the same when it was stock 2.3.6.

Ugh, me too and it was driving me absolutely crazy. I'm on AOKP now (think the build from a few days ago) and it (WiFi) works perfectly now. I know this, because mobile data keeps dropping (argh) but I'm still getting e-mail, etc (but I can't send MMS at least).
Most days I am in solid WiFi coverage, so I am dealing with dodgy mobile data in exchange for stable WiFi. Anybody know if eclipse fixes this issue?
Edit: I'm glad you made this post so I know I am not crazy. Part of the changelog for the 219 update was a WiFi fix, and I was very disappointed when it didn't seem to help...

I've been on Eclipse since it was first ported and I have never had any data issues on 4G/3G or wifi. But I've only connected to 2 or 3 wifi networks so I could just be lucky there. 4G/3G connectivity is perfect.

Yea, I really do have to check Eclipse out. The only thing holding me back is that I'm getting (what I consider) stupid-good battery life with AOKP. Plus, I just did a factory reset on ICS to fix notifications, which means I just set everything back up
Have you spent any time on Wifi using the stock ROM? I'm lucky to get half an hour of Wifi connectivity before it just dies (but still pretends to be connected). No problem with wireless tethering (AOKP or stock). Sometimes I am convinced they don't actually test these things before pushing them out...

I never had any problem with stock either. I would run it on wifi all day at home on a Saturday and never had any drops. I just set up a new router last running dd-wrt so we will see how that goes.
You should definitely check out Eclipse. You lose a few of the ICS goodies but it's totally worth it in my opinion not to have to worry about data dropping out. Battery life has been phenomenal for me on Eclipse. I've been getting through a whole day with 40% - 50% battery left when I finally plug it in a night.
Just backup up your current ROM in safestrap that way, if you don't like Eclipse, you can just restore your backup and your back on AOKP with everything just as you left it!
I've used AOKP for over a week and I don't recall having wifi issues. Which build were you on? I used nightly 29/4. Now I'm back to stock because of BT and Camera. Other than that I had no issues.

I haven't really tweaked it or anything. No undervolting/underclocking or anything like that. I have the 4G toggle installed and switch 4G off when I'm sitting at my desk at work and I'm connected to wifi when I get home in the evening. I don't do anything special other than that. I am still running version 1.3.7 as a couple of people have reported that 1.3.8 broke auto capitalization and not having that would drive me nuts.
Guess I wasn't clear enough. Both on AOKP 29/4 and stock 219 I encountered no WiFi issues. And I use it a lot. I have to because when I switch to 3G for faster internet I loose audio (GSM 3G not working yet). So what I mean to say is, not sure what your problem with WiFi is or where it's coming from. I ran AOKP for at least a week. And I've been running 219 since I got my phone (except for that specific week that is). Not once has WiFi stopped working or glitched for that matter.
Hello fellow droid people.
Ok here is my question/questions. I apologize in advance if some of these questions are redundant with others, but I am at work at the moment and my search functions are limited due to web lock downs.
So I know a bit about what I'm doing in terms of flashing and backing up with safe-strap (v3.05). Currently I'm running MiniMoto v1.6 on a 5.7.906.xt862 system version on the Verizon US network.
My first question is what are the benefits of swapping to the xt833 over the xt862, if there are any at all.
My second question is dealing with the 3g vs 1x connections. I usually get a 3g connection just fine, but soon as I switch to any heavy internet usage, steaming music, downloading/updating from the play store etc, it will drop down to a 1x connection and my data will slow down drastically I grandfathered into the unlimited data from Verizon so idk if its a cap thing or what.
My last question is that when I turn on the GPS it takes a drastically long time to find any satellites to be able to do navigation. I tired installing the GPS status app which seems to help a bit but still takes a long time to connect that first time after its been off for a while.
Lastly, not really a question I suppose, but I am looking for suggestions too on ROMS to run. My biggest issue, as I'm sure with most people, is batter life and looking to get the most out of it. I do run Juice Defender Pro and with the minimalistic approach of MiniMoto I do get a lot of battery life. I guess what Im looking for though is something that is VERY bare bones, no extra stuff at all, not even gappps, at least on a fresh install, and with the features to customize what I want to have on there, almost like a build your own capabilities. For example I notice most ROMS I've tried (Ive run CM9 a long time ago on an x2, Steel Droid, v3 i think, and now MiniMoto) and they all have things like the Flicker Authorization on it, I have no use for that personally. yes I know I can freeze it with Titanium Backup (which i have also) or rename the .apk file to like .apkb or something, but I am looking for something where its just not there, if its out there.
Thanks for making it though this wall of txt and look forward to participating on here after a long time lurking and using the forums for info
Another question that just popped into my head, if someone can point me in the direction of how to apply the build.prop things that get put out, Ive seen a lot of things about them, but never been able to find how to apply them it would be appreciated.
-Waff
-Droid x2 - returned to get the Droid 3
-Droid 3 .906 x862 running MiniMoto
-Asus Transformer 300
1) The 883 radio/build.prop is used to unlock GSM in the USA. Totally unneeded and will disable your CDMA part of your radio from my experience unless you want to unlock for T-Mobile/AT&T.
2) The 3G/1X switching may be you needing to do a *228. But you can force 3G by *#*#4636#*#*, Phone Information, EVDO only. Note: You won't get inbound calls or texts, as those use 1X.
3) Minimoto is about as barebones as you can get. If you want more battery life play with the overclocking and keep it at 1 GHz but change governors and stuff. I get through the day just fine. What are you expecting? Maybe you have apps that you download that are killing it (like Words With Friends is notorious for me).
Thanks for your response MrObvious
As to the 3g/1x thing. Ya i don't want to force 3g that way as i do still need to receive calls and such. I have tried the *288 a few times and its doesn't help at all, I'm thinking its just a bad location in my office as that seems to be where I have the most issues.
For the battery thing. Its not that I see a big drain on it, far from it when I know I'm going to need to be maximizing it I can just use Juice Defender to cut the pushes and radios that aren't needed to a minimum and I can easily get a full day plus of standby. I was just looking for a way to maximize what I did have already.
It is two two eight not 288.

before you add the gapps from above, might want to upgrade to 1.7, he just put a new version out a couple of days ago with some fixes and more removal of things. and it requires a full flash, not just an update.
My girlfriends D3 has gradually been getting worse with poor reception, dropping calls, not being able to make/receive calls or texts.
Data seems to work fine. This weekend it just finally stopped being able to make calls or send texts from our home.
If i drive a few miles down the road or to a higher elevation i was barely able to call *228 to update roaming.
I can still use the browser over 3G and Wifi, just no tethering, phone or text.
The phone shows 3G and a full signal, but as soon as i initiate a call it drops to 1 bar.
Another thing we noticed this morning is that when calling the phone it goes straight to voicemail.
I had tried changing the Network mode from Global to CDMA yesterday and at one point got an error message saying "No CDMA networks were found. Would you like to switch to Global Mode?"
Phone has been rebooted and battery pulled along with some other diagnostic tests that the verizon techs did over the phone yesterday.
The only thing i had done to this phone was i applied the TBH tethering hack without root over a year ago. It worked fine up until now.
The phone has the latest System version 5.7.906.XT862 and the latest Baseband N_03.18.32P.
Im thinking of reverting the TBH Tethering hack back using the instructions in this post
I spoke to Verizon tech support yesterday and they said there was some trouble in our area, but my Droid X is still able to connect so i doubt thats the issue.
Does anyone think that an OTA update from Verizon may have screwed something up due to the TBH hack being applied?
The GF is frantic about getting her phone back. I can take out insurance for 6.99 pr/month and pay $100 to get her a new phone, but if reverting the TBH hack and maybe rooting and installing a new ROM might help, im all for it.
Any thoughts? ROM advice? Was reading up about the AOKP Build 40 ROM, but wondering if all the hoop jumping will help or if the D3 has a hardware issue that has just got progressively worse.
Wont you help a poor guy keep the peace with his lady please?
I don't think it's that. It's possible that the 3G in the area is good but 1x is crap. 3G is just used for data while calls/texts are used on 1x. What is the PRL versions your phone and her phone have?

Just tried updating them both and the PRL's stayed the same.
About an hour ago i was in the middle of backing up her phone and it started ringing. I was able to answer the call and now im able to make and receive texts and calls. There must have been a tower issue. The signal still drops to 2 bars when i initiate a call, but at least its working again.
She says its been flaky for quite a while with dropping calls and texts not getting sent. Im all backed up and was thinking of rooting and trying a ROM on this. Not sure if itll help with signal issues, dropped calls or texts not being sent or received.
She was also complaining about the thing pocket dialing, and other random stuff happening like her browser launching and texts being sent etc. I saw it this morning. I picked up her phone to bring it downstairs and saw that there was a text reply box open with a bunch of jibberish typed in it. She says that sort of thing happens all the time.
Think maybe a good stable ROM might help?
After a little more research i came across Minimoto here at XDA. Minimoto Link
Seems to be the way to go if im sticking to a GB ROM. I see you contributed some to it. Would you happen to know where some step by step instructions for getting it installed on a non rooted D3 might be?
1) Root it.
2) Install Safestrap 3.05.
3) Reboot to it, create ROM-Slot 1.
4) Factory reset and wipe cache and delvik.
5) Flash the ROM.
6) Set her up with goodness.
Though if random crap is popping up, I suspect the digitizer is flaky.

Have you heard of digitizer issues with D3's before?
Any recommendations on which rooting method to use?
Do i have to remove the TBH Tether hack before rooting, installing Safestrap or Flashing the ROM?
So i take it your in agreement that this would be a good choice for a stable no frills GB ROM?
the random stuff can be from from a bad digitizer, dirt/grime on digitizer/edge or a software conflict
try cleaning screen around the edge, and/or flash rom/sbf
you need to remove bootstrap before safestrap, tbh hack should be fine

Thanks sd_shadow I think ill stick with minimo most likely. Too many dam ROMS to choose from!.
Ok so from the hours of reading i did yesterday, i found a working link for motofail. It appears it is the best (or only) way to root the D3 if on 906.
From there i thought i could just install Safestrap 3.05 which i managed to track down as well.
I never installed Bootstrap, so does this even apply? Is there a factory bootstrap included with the D3?
I believe i read that minimoto has its own tethering feature included. So are we sure i dont have to revert the TBH tethering hack?
Some great links in your signature by the way. If the digitizer keeps acting up, i may try replacing it. I did clean it last night and will see if things improve.

Just install safestrap on your safe system after root don't worry about bootstrap.
Is there a factory bootstrap included with the D3?
No
I believe i read that minimoto has its own tethering feature included. So are we sure i dont have to revert the TBH tethering hack?
No you do not have to undo the tether hack it is a hardwear hack not a software hack and will work on any rom no matter if the rom already has tethering in it.
Some great links in your signature by the way. If the digitizer keeps acting up, i may try replacing it. I did clean it last night and will see if things improve.

replacing the digitizer is a pain
some [how to] links in my list
Tried 10.1 no external mic/voice deal killer. Cm9 no 3/4g radios deal killer, CM10 no gps deal killer. So There are no updated roms that that keep ALL of what I consider core functionality? So I'm on 3.2 any suggestions on the best 3.2 rom? I've re-flashed at least 5 times looking for the "perfect" rom and I'm really sick of entering all my info/apps only to flash them away....
10.1 was great but losing the mic/voice interface is unacceptable. Also the voice interface on 3.2 seems similar to "google now" but not quite can it be upgraded to full functionality?
I'm currently StreakDroid-HD7R3-4G-105 tried r8 first and it wouldn't boot so any thoughts on r4/7 or is the anther rom family to that's better? Thanks for you input..
Stick with what you have.
Microphone is an easy fix, we just haven't gotten around to it. We have lifes to live

Thanks I tried to work around with a bluetooth headset, no joy. when I open voice search it crashes, am I wasting my time there? And thanks for all you efforts, it just that I'm an idiot buying a t-mobile 4g etc. I thought it was also PHONE! Stupid me, but for $120 I"ll beat it with a hammer until it gives in or dies.. So I'm trying correct my ignorance, and get either real or voip phone calls so a mic is kinda important.
Hey scott, you mean 10.1 has 4G band working? Ive been using R8 since thats the only one I know that uses 4G band for sure. Even tho the icon is broke. As for your R8 not booting, did you nvram flash R2 1st then cwm to R8?
I ended up back on r8, I tore everything out and started from scratch and it seems to be working pretty well now. I don't think I redid the partitions when I first rolled back from 10.1 the first time, and that caused all kinds of access errors.
Restore 2.2 found here was invaluable in rolling back all the way to 2.2 for a fresh start..
