just currious what folks who have run both think? which one performs better?
At this moment Cm7 off course. If we get an official fully working Honeycomb then off course Honeycomb.
CM7, easily.
The HC ROM is cool, but isn't from source. CM7 is your best bet for everyday use.
CM7 is working great as long as you don't use the built in video/music player(codec problems, rock player is a fix).
Full market access isn't working either and some apps too(pandora).
Flash websites work great and the rom itself is very smooth.
HCv4
For everything other than video (which doesn't work stock in CM7 either) I use the Honeycomb emmc install.
HC is fast and stable for general web browsing.
This is just my .02
Dan
Like everyone says CM7 is much more stable, and because of the nightlies we are likely to see most of the major issues resolved within a week, however once HC goes AOSP its a totally different ball game, for now CM7 is your best bet.

CM have had Gingerbread for long enough to know how to tweak it, I'd expect it to take a while for Honeycomb to get up to the same level.
Any word on if there will be a version of CM7 that we can boot off the SDCard? Would be great for those who just want to check it out before flashing.
Another vote for CM7 or some type of froyo. HC ran waaaaaay to slow for me. Even non-technically savvy people were like "man, isn't that really slow..?"

I seriously doubt it. CM, as far as I know, is strictly off the emmc.
There probably won't ever be a CM7 from the nightly builds that you could write to a bootable uSD but it certainly should be possible to create one. It is even mentioned in the FAQ from the [USER] CM7 General Discussion thread.
Q: IS THERE AN SD-ONLY "BOOTABLE" VERSION?
Not from the nighty builds. However-- should someone want to create such a bootable SD-- (warning: Slightly technical answer all it would take to create one is a new uRamdisk file with the partitions in init.encore.rc pointing to the correct partitions on the SD card.

I'd try creating one myself but I have too many projects going on and trying CM7 isn't really high on my list.
For right now, CM7 is fine. Once someone from this great community ports over the "real" HC, then I will be 3.0!!! Everything else will be obsolete!!!

well my HC setup is about 95% complete(i have just a few market apps not showing up but its no bother) and a side from no HQ youtube and flash(which i can wait the xoom wont have flash support on release as well) it runs smooth off the emmc and its really stable so i recommend honeycomb
I have been running HC4 since it came out and love it. Quad scores of 1700. Same probs as other ROMs with no Flash and no HQ YouTube, but very stable. I haven't tried CM7 and prob wont just because I am at a good place witty my NC on HC. Can't wait for AOSP version! I don't think u can go wrong with either one, tho.

I have spent the past couple days trying out all the available rom's that are in the dev section. I have tried HCv4, Froyo, CM7 and Stock.
I really liked honeycomb the best but for some reason a few apps I need were force closing on me, namely IMDB and Aldiko(yes I still use my nook primarily as a reading device.) I didn't spend too much time trying to figure out why they were closing, if anyone has an answer to that it would be appreciated as I will reinstall honeycomb in a heartbeat. At this point hopefully it won't be long until we see a new version based on the SDK so might be prudent to wait for that. I didn't run v4 long enough to judge battery usage so can't comment.
Next up CM7, I liked this rom as well but found it had high battery drain which kind of irked me a little, I guess not a huge deal but was annoying. I believe it is something to do with not going fully asleep from what I learned but reading through the threads, I am sure this will be worked out soon and this will be a viable option.
Next was latest version of the customized Froyo. This is another nice rom which I am currently testing out on my NC. All apps I have tried seem to work fine so far. It was a little tricky getting market working on the newest version. I think the problem is the newest version uses EXT4 for system/data but still wants to use EXT3 for cache and this seems to cause some initial issues. I think it could be resolved just by changing the cache mount command at startup to mount as EXT4, maybe this will be sorted in the next release. Other than that so far so good. Also I haven't been running it long enough to gauge battery usage yet. Also does anyone know if you can remove the softkeys app? Uninstall is greyed out for that app for some reason. I remapped my hardware volume keys to menu/back so I don't really need softkeys any more.
Lastly the stock rooted 1.1. I ran this for about a week(I have only had my NC for a little over a week). I liked the stock but found I didn't use the B&N factory apps much if at all so figured I may as well try some of the other versions out and this is what lead me on the adventure above. Battery usage seemed great on the stock 1.1 root. It would easily last me a 2-3 days with normal usage for me which includes a couple hours of reading during my commute to work and a little web surfing and such in the evening and possibly throughout the day at work.
For now I am going to run Froyo for a few days to see how I like it. If an SDK based Honeycomb comes out I will definitely try that and once the bugs are worked out in CM7 I may try it again as well.
Kevin
I'm running CM7, I'd love it if I could get Youtube to work period. It would be nice if I could get apps to stop force closing on me all the time too. Once these issues can be fixed I'll love me some CM7.
Another vote here for CM7 on the SD card. I'm not yet completely comfortable with flashing my ROM on the Nook just yet and I like trying out different builds till I find the one I really want to stick with.
CM7 sounds pretty impressive though, I'll admit.
I can see that CM7 has a clear majority of votes...but HCv4 has work flawlessly for me. I run the 1.1 OC'd kernel, and it is very fast and very stable.
I suspect it depends on what apps you like to run, and while I have installed quite a few from the market, I spend most of my "nook time" using it as a reader. I use the B&N reader. Kindel and Aldiko, and all three work perfectly for me.
Having said that, I also understand that not everyone has had as satisfactory an experience as I have. While it was not all that hard to get up and running, it was also not a simple "press the button" install. I used the first version of the flashable eMMC package that samuelhalff put together a couple of weeks back, and "way back then" there were a number of small tweaks needed to get things like ADHOC wireless & Market running.

Hmmm I tried out HCv4 last evening and had trouble with Aldiko force closing on me pretty much as soon as it started up. I got the Aldiko 2.0 logo and then it would FC. I tried both the Free and Paid versions. Did you have to do anything special to get it to work?? I also had the same trouble with the IMDB app. I would go back to HC in a heartbeat if I could get Aldiko working properly. I also use my NC primarily as a reader so Aldiko is very important.
Thanks.

Hey guys. I am totally new to this tablet so please bare with me
I have knowledge in flashing android stuff (I have a galaxy S and I reflashed it more times than I can count till I found an ICS version that suits me) so I know what I am dealing with, but just don't seem to get it.
Now I am at the stage of not seeing CyanogenMod in the moboot menu (followed this tut http://liliputing.com/2012/01/how-to-install-android-4-0-on-the-hp-touchpad-cyanogenmod-9-alpha.html ) but I will solve that tomorrow.
Until then, please tell me which ROM is the MOST STABLE and the SMOOTHEST available ( I don't have any preferences. May it be ICS, GB or whichever)
Thanks a bunch
I am also interested in this as I am getting quite bored with my TP on webOS...
the latest nightly of cm9 is your best bet.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
Not to sound rude or anything, but there's a SEARCH function that works wonders on the section of HP Touchpad.
This question has been asked MANY, MANY times over, and each time people ask the same thing - which is best, which does THIS or THAT.
The only answer anyone can give you is pick one and try it. I suggest you start with the official CM9 nightlies, as they're the most recent and up-to-date. From there, try something else - AoKP perhaps, or CherryKANG, or even stick with WebOS (which is the smoothest and best-working of them all, just not Android).
So please, in the future, SEARCH before asking this oft-asked, always-answered-the-same question. Please. I beg of you.
I like webOS and in android the CM9 official nightlies. I used to use cherry Kang until the dev stopped updating it. The best os, in my opinion, is webOS. Battery life is much, much better than android. Unfortunately, there's not much selection for apps But for just Web browsing, email and music it's hard to beat. And Skype works fully.
has n1 got a stable ICS?
i have not been on the N1 scene for some time, had a quick look and the ics section is very messy, seems to be many roms i just want to know are of these stable. i find it hilarious how devs are working on jellybean when we don't even have a stable cm9.
any links would be appreciative.

First of all I would like to say that developers work for free and are therefor free in their decision on which project they work or not. I really appreciate their work in general and you should do so, too. Instead of questioning their decisions.
Indeed there are quiet stable ICS roms. The most popular are Evervolv's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366897) and SpazeDog's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813744) ICS. Have a look at the single threads for its tradeoffs.

Go for SpazDog rom. There is nothing hilarious in it. It is a very solid and very stable rom.

I've been running the TexasICE a4 ICS for several months and it has been quite stable. I average maybe one SOD or reboot a month. I've heard a6 (most recent) has data connectivity problems going back and forth between WiFi and cellular, so I never installed it. It's quick and minimal. Installed the Gapps manually to maximize internal space (I don't use the VideoEditor or YouTube apps, for example.) This keeps about 28MB free on the /system partition and about 42MB on /data. I do have trouble with Play Store updates to large apps (>20MB), even if they are installed to SD because the Store seems to need about 2x the app size in /data in order to install them. I don't blame ICS for this though. This phone wasn't made with 20+MB apps in mind. Since I have an N7 now, I mainly just use the phone for calls, calendar alerts, GTalk, and podcasts. I have very little non-essential stuff on there anymore.

Could you teach me how to connect wifi with WPA2? Cuz spazedog can't save the password I entered hence unable to connect.
And can't enable r mount after installation using su m2sd tmount <enable>.
Other that these two factors, it's a very smooth rom.

Welcome to the TouchPad community, jerryatherton. I've been messing with TouchPads for a couple years now, but I'm pretty new to XDA...
Anyways, to answer your question, both Schizoid 2 and Evervolv claim to support the camera and microphone. I'm assuming that's all you'll need for Hangouts. However, neither ROM supports Bluetooth, so you'll have to make that sacrifice. I haven't tried either myself, but the people who have seem to rate both rather highly. Head here to check them out.
Also, this thread discusses a patch for the microphone in CM10.
Good luck!

Thanks, Camera worked in both, but I am going with Evervolv, it is simple and seems smooth. Schizoid is awesome but I get lost in all the options.
Currently running CM9 on my Touchpad. Use it for web browsing, few games, mostly apps, and occasionally BT w/ my HP keyboard. Not sure if I should upgrade to KitKat (CM11) or go with CM10.1/2, or just stick with what I have. Any suggestions and breakdowns of what each version is best for, in regards to what I use mine for and stability/performance are welcome.
Also, if anyone has any battery information, that would be great. I know CM9 is alright, but it still drains fairly quickly. Thanks guys.

Use to CM10 for now. I've been using CM11 for a while now and it is really hitting a rough patch to the point it is nearly unusable. CM10 is pretty mature and you will like it much more that CP9.
Good luck!

Don't agree with that. Using Flintmans nondata cm11 and its fully usable IMO. No freezes, keboard bt works. I liked the straight update with this nondata rom, nothing to change except system partition size from 300 to 600MB.
If you want cam to work, go for 10.2 though, Milaqs rom seems nice.
i like the non-data media roms since I want to maximize the space I can access on both webos and android easily.
I use JCSullins 4.2.2. Battery drain is great, doesn't even lose 1% in like 5 hours sleeping. Not a data media build which is good as I think they're pointless.
I am using CM10. I used CM11 for a few day and went back. My kiddo uses it for netflix and dish anywhere, so it needed to be a little more stable.

Which date is that build from, it you don't mind?
Also, in general, which builds tend to be fastest? CM10 or CM11? Or does it matters more about the kernal?
Thanks,

Everything is subjective, you really have to try them yourself to see what works for you and read the comments in the individual thread's to help you make a decision.
But you should have loads of fun trying them.
All the best.
I also use JCSullines 4.2.2.
It is CM10.1 on Kernel 2.6. I believe it is an early January 2014 build ( you can find it by searching for Tenderloin Jellybean with Bluetooth support)
To answer the OP question, each build has advantages.
CM7 was bay FAR the most responsive, and was always able to play local amd streaming content flawlessly.
CM9 provided android 4.0 and the UI enhancements. However it had lip sync issues on local video content. It did however allow very easy updates through "OTA like updates" in the system settimgs options
CM10 -- unknown, didnt try it.
CM10.1 (k2.6)-- basically is CM9 fixed... Mostly. It plays videos well and less battery draim (gone are the days of zero batter without waening and the fear it may be bricked). The issue is that it gets slow with time, perhaps hours or a day.. But youll need to reboot before to long. Videos can lag pretty bad, particularly streaming HD content.
CM10.1 (k3.4) -- unkown, but hopeful. Faster responce, low battery drain, yet possible issues with BT amd or audio/HD videos

Will be moving to CM11 for 4.4.2 support. Had CM10 for a while and loved it, but need 4.4.2 for Xfinity TV support. Can't wait...
Echoing what others have said, I use Milaq's 4.3 rom (cm10.2), which works well for me: stable, relatively low battery drain, BT, camera. It even supports OTG which I use with my DSLR. Great rom. I am planning on experimenting with jc's 4.4.2 on another TP.

I've been using JCSullins 10.1 for a while and just went to his 11. So far the only downside is the current version of Netflix doesn't work correctly. Both bluetooth and camera seem to work correctly though which, if I recall, is a plus over CM9.
I've been using CM9 since i bought this tablet. But its starting to become very unresponsive, there is noticeable lag, it often freezes, so i have to reboot or wait for a really long time and it's very slow for everyday use like browsing etc..
I just updated to latest version of CM9 (only wipe cache and dalvik). What may be the cause of this, since I know that CM9 was much faster when i first installed it and how can i make it responsive again?
might be just the case that you've been installing too many apps
i'm on the last cm9 nightly, and everything works (audio, video/decoding, bluetooth, camera, wifi etc), and everything is as fast as I remember it
additionally, i've flashed the modified kernel that you can overclock the cpu/gpu, so games and whatnot are faster
i've only installed things i actually use, have greenified to hibernate everything when not in use, and go to deep sleep mode after 1 min of screen off
anyways, i sorta want to upgrade to cm11, just because it's newer, is there a version that has everything working and stable except the camera, that's the one thing i never use (i also very rarely use the bluetooth, but i like syncing the ps3 controller to play games)
I'm gong with cm11
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I was on CM9 for a long time and quite happy but decided to make the jump to CM11/4.4.2 and have zero regrets.
The updated look and feel is well worth it, the interface and UI is super responsive and much quicker than CM9. This may be due in part to having to do a full uninstall of CM. Battery life is great.
I am on 20140409-SNAPSHOT-jcsullins which is a data media build and frankly was not hard to setup. AcmeInstaller takes care of everything and the only real additional step was resizing the partitions which was super easy with the .zips, I highly recommend mpgrimm2's guide and if you can find it Roland Deschain's guide. Give it a couple of reads and it's really not hard.
Netflix won't work out of the box but again, the fix is super easy, use method #2 from this thread and enjoy, just one .zip to flash and just make sure you are on Netflix 3.2.1 and do not have autoupdate on.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405995
I highly recommend spending about 15 minutes to read through the setup guides, then another 20-30 minutes to go through the uninstall and fresh install of CM11. You will not regret it.
I was using CM9 for a while and recently went to CM11. While others are sharing great success and how great things are running, I haven't been too happy with it. Apps that would normally run are now lagging like no other. Waking up from sleep seems to be an issue. Random reboots. I also still can't access the sounds setting without settings FCing on me. Eh, best of luck to whatever you choose! :good:
