For some reason my Galaxy S+ seems to want to use Mobile Data instead of Wifi. This started happening a month ago. Around night times it will just swap to using Mobile Data, but Wifi is still turned on... I don't understand why it's doing this. I am not going out of range of Wifi or anything. It says that my Wifi is connected in settings but the phone isn't using it. There is also no icon for it, just for Data.
It has nothing to do with my network because my Galaxy S 2 doesn't have this issue...
Also the phone goes on Silent by itself too... and no, I have no program that makes it do that automatically... so I have no idea what is going on.
Are you absolutely sure that you don't use any app like Tasker or something? That simply sounds too strange. Or maybe Juice Defender? If I remember correctly, there is a night profile option or something.
List the apps you have installed, if the phone is doing this each night it is definitely a profile set.

Some SGS+ roms (even stock) have known issues with wifi drops. If you want to keep using your current rom I think you have to install KQ1 wifi drivers...
In any case the best solution is to flash a rom without any wifi bugs such as KQ1 or KQE.
This is the link for KQE thread in the android development forum... In any case you can download all roms in sammobile
(I'm using KQE and don't have any wifi bugs )

Hey all,
since a couple of days I have a problem with my wifi, it keeps switching on and off (I can see the checkbox activating and deactivating, every couple of seconds, at the moment it is unchecked and says "error")
as I said, the wifi worked before
I am running cyanogen 7 (http://android.doshaska.net/cm7) on Milestone
- But I have also tried MIUI, with the same problem
does issue sound familiar to anyone?
Maybe it is an app which force turns my wifi on/off, is there any way to check which one it is (as far as I know I don't have an of them, eg juice defender, tasker installed)
Many thanks
Have you tried other WiFi networks? Because the same error being reproduced across two different ROMs seems a little unlikely.
Well, the problem is that my wifi doesn't stay on long enough (just a couple of seconds) to scan/connect to any network.

So it isn't a problem connecting to a network, it's a problem of the wifi not even being able to turn on?
Well "technically" it does turn on, but it switches off immediately

wow, i just logged in to search for this issue myself. I have that same issue across multiple roms also. The one that did work was the Telus Lite Eclair. I liked that one, but of course I wanted to check out others. Each one was the same as you describe. Wifi scans, disconnects, scans, in a loop.
I have done searches on google for wifi disconnect loop android, and seen some stuff about kernals and stuff that is over my head at the moment. If some one has an idea on how to get it working that would be great.
I wipe before any install, I've went back to stock and it works, everytime I went to the Telus Lite one it also always worked. I dont know if theres a clue there or not?
Im on an Telus milestone in Canada, on Telus network if that makes a difference.
And since I think this is my first real post, Thanks for the work guys.
Not sure if this would work, but this is the first result that popped up: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/koush/75782-wifi-disconnect-loop-cm6-final.html
EDIT: People are saying that Hidden SSIDs and MAC filtering can cause problems when trying to connect to the WiFi network. Try forgetting the network, making the network visible(protected if you wish) and reboot the phone and try again.
ok, time for a stupid question...
where do I find suitable kernels?
I can't find anything about this (roms and kernel tweaking is a is pretty well documented though)

As far as I know, you won't be able to change the kernel on the Milestone at all, due to the locked bootloader.

a little update, I checked my settings on my router and there was nothing really out of place. For poops and giggles I installed Shawdowmod, and it works with out issue with my wifi. Go figure. Anyway, think im keeping it.
Thanks for the help.
hmmm, good to hear you figured it out.
I just went back to stock and guess what? still nothing
maybe I'll try that rom and see
Hello all,
I have an old Samsung Captivate laying around that I have turned into a media center remote control. There is no SIM card in the device and there likely never will be in the future. I have loaded Slim ICS (gotta love ICS!) on it and it runs great, but what I would like to do is COMPLETELY disable the cellular radio. I have no need for it and I know that having the radio active, even if it is not connected to an AT&T network, is still draining battery slightly. I want to know if there is some modem out there that I can flash that will be able to shut the cellular radio off totally, or at least give me the option to turn it off. I know this may sound dumb, but please bear with me. I basically just want to eliminate unnecessary hardware. I would also like a way to physically disable GPS if possible, but that's another topic for another day.
Thanks in advance to anyone who even takes the time to read this thread
-Steve
You can use airplane mode.
Or can't you just delete the modem?
Sent from my ICS Samsung Captivate
Here is a ROM that was the same idea.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093696
A guy on the last page says he just uses TiBu to freeze all the MMS and Phone stuff in Sliim ICS.
Just deleting modem will probably disable the wifi. That rom listed above had the basic idea. You could just use airplane mode and have working wifi.
Ok random problem for me..
Using the note since December last year with no problems... Until now!
Have tried most custom roms now but have recently stuck with stock as I like to use the sky go app so I can watch the F1 at work.
My problem is with any ICS Samsung based ROM my wifi keeps dropping and then reconnecting but the strange thing is only with my virgin media dlink router. If I connect to my BT home hub its fine (but so slow on YouTube etc and my PC is hooked to the virgin line which I use for all share)
Is there a fix for this? I don't want to go back to GB even though the connection problem doesn't occur there as I'm one of the few who actually likes stock ICS. I have done a search and there are a lot of complaints threads etc even with the s2 but no definitive fixes. Any and all help and suggestions appreciated
Cheers

OpenWrt
Have the same issue with Stock SGN ICS and routers with OpenWrt. Still dont know what causing it.
Regards.
Yeah, I´ve been experiencing that too. I have been working abroad recently, and when I was at home it seemed fine so I assumed it was the network rather than the phone. Using it side by side with my ipod, the ipod is working more consistently, so I wonder if it just has problems holding a connection when the wifi signal is weak (all the routers here are wireless G, while at home I used a newer N router). I noticed, in particular, that when the ipod was reporting very poor signal, the note was giving good signal, but was not able to connect, and then lost connection altogether.
Do you still get drops if you have your phone very close to the access point?
I get less frequent drops if im closer but it still loses connection then auto reconnects. I just never had this problem with GB.
Well i thought i'd try a couple of the custom roms.. So far King Droid 4.2, AllianceRom V1, Cassies XLR and now on RocketRom v7. They are all doing it. Im at my wits end.
So im now gonna try a few different kernels.. If i remember rightly the kernel handles the WIFI?

Flash A New Kernel Like Francisco Or CleaNote, You Be Home Free.
Hi Everyone,
As title says, a few weeks ago I noticed that my wifi keeps dropping no matter what I do.. this being as i surf and not in sleep mode or anything like that.
How did it start?
when it happened this is what i did, went to GB rooted rom, flashed up to JB room paranoid android, all worked fine except i noticed wifi kept dropping, tried another jb rom ,same thing, tried ics kingdroid rom, same thing. So then I decided to go back to original official stuff GB, same thing.. wifi dropping, went to official ICS, still wifi keep dropping.
What I have done to try to fix it:
Tried different roms, networks, all settings in Wifi settings. Googled like 3 days straight, mostly this seems to be a galaxy s3 problem not a galaxy note problem. A few people said they solved it by giving it a static ip which wouldnt work for me as im on like 3 different networks, and by changing sleep settings to make sure it doesnt shut off during sleep mode, which i honeslty have no problem with. Someone solved it by switching rom, nothing i find applies to me..
So what do I do??
I would honestly appriciate any suggestion, this is a great community so I got high hopes Sorry if my question has been answered before but I dont belive so, i posted in noob thread any noone had suggestion so I hope I dont do anything wrong with this post.. cheers :victory:

The operation of Wi-Fi is a core responsibility. Try changing the kernel. Modem is responsible for the connection to GSM. If you change the kernel does not help, you probably have a broken phone.

well i have weak wi fi signal.. Most of the modems don't work for me.. Ddlp4 is the one i use..and no the kernel has nothing to do with wifi signal strength
Check your router and see if WPA Wireless network encryption is set to AES, if it is, change it to TKIP., see if you can connect after.
Usually it's nothing to do with the ROM, modem, kernel, android or even the phone itself, it might be your router setting that needs a change.
Know it was long since I made this thread but I wanted to report result, it was as above poster said. Rouer settings, finally found compatible ones after sooo manny roms, modems and other fixes were attempted.

Hey guys! I have only just joined XDA Developers so please excuse me if I have posted this thread in the wrong area. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance (GT-I9070) running stock Jellybean firmware (4.1.2 ITV) but as you all know the stock firmware for this device is full of bugs and freezes often. I successfully rooted my device and installed Team Canjica's CM10.2 ROM (4.3) from the thread on XDA Developers but the WiFi wasn't working. I then installed Maclaw's CM11 ROM (KitKat) because I thought that might solve the issue but it didn't. Here are the details:
Device scans for nearby wireless routers.
I type in the password for my home router.
Device saves router. "Saved, Secured" message displayed.
I tap on my home router in the list to connect.
Device says "Connecting" for a couple of seconds and then goes back to saying "Saved, Secured".
I browsed through the forums and some users suggested switching WiFi Frequency to Auto and turning off WiFi Optimisation but neither of those methods worked for me. The ROM was installed successfully and all other features are working properly so I don't think that is the issue. And my router settings are also alright since I am able to connect to it from my Nexus 7 (2013) properly. Can someone please provide me with a working solution for this issue? I will start receiving very high data usage bills soon because my data plan isn't unlimited. Thank you!
Is your ssid hidden (not broadcasted) by any chance? i had those troubles on hidden home network. Sometimes it worked after a while, sometimes it didn't. What helped me is to broadcast ssid for a moment, get connected with phone, remove broadcast (it will reboot router so phone will lose wifi for a moment). Then somehow it got connected normally

I just checked my router settings and SSID Broadcast is enabled. I tried flashing OmniRom 4.3 thinking that this may be because of a problem with CyanogenMod but the problem still persists. Is there any additional kernel that I was supposed to install perhaps?
CyanogenMod 11 version ?

Just a detail to those who have not upgraded to JB stock and think it is impossible to use it without problems:
All bugs and freezes in Stock JB currently are perfectly finished.
I use STOCK, only with modified kernel (cocore 8.2) without freezes or bugs in months of use.
Enjoy the developer's work (cocafe), because without it JB probably would be impossible in SGA. However we have JB 100% functional and bug-free.
About KK and WIFI bugs:
The only KK (or based) ROM that used without WIFI bugs was RR 20140313.
In fact, the only issue is incall vol. in my experience.
WiFi Direct, Camera -> Panorama is laggy , Screen Recorder not working Not Tested
I also noticed that the battery is worse durability.
But I went back to JB Stock -- personal preference.

Actually I did try that method. Flashed Samsung's latest stock firmware I9070XXLQL (ITV) and then rooted and installed CoCore. To be honest overall performance was much better and UI smoothness was improved. But after a couple of days of regular usage with just a few basic applications such as a note taker, train arrival time, WhatsApp etc. the device started freezing up a couple of times a day again. I admit it worked much better than before but freezes and hangs were still quite frequent. Running OmniROM 4.3 now with no issues so far except for dialer FC, laggy panorama and non functional WiFi hotspot.

WIFI not working with cm-11-20140521-UNOFFICIAL-janice and cm11.0_janice.nova.201406
Same wifi problem with cm-11-20140521-UNOFFICIAL-janice and cm11.0_janice.nova.20140601. Wifi not connecting even after giving the right password (used to work correctly with jb4.1.2 and still works with desktop) only showing saving and connecting wifi. Then the wifi connection is shown to be saved. If wifi does not work with cyanogenmod11, then what's the use of upgrading?
Is wifi is not working in any custom kitkat Rom?
Please suggest a solution.
Try couple times to connect. I remember sometimes I had to reconnect 2-3 times before it gets connection. And the problem with kernel was about WIFI not turning on at all, it was not even search SSIDs.
