You can install custom ROM
You can NOT install custom kernel

If it's made compatible with stock kernels, then sure, go right ahead try GingerDX...safest GB Rom for stock kernel

You can unlock your bootloader, but not for free.

so much confusion about custom kernel !!!
custom kernel is independent or dependent on bootloader ??? for to have custom rom we need custom kernel also ???
1. Custom kernel is a different base for your rom. Custom kernel requires unlocked bootloader. Custom kernel and unlocked bootloader provide some performance and capabilities benefit.
2. It depends on the type of the rom if you need or not to flash custom kernel. Many roms DO NOT REQUIRE flashing kernels, while some DO. You can find if rom requires custom kernel in the thread that the rom is posted...

[Q] CWM on Locked bootloader??

I am not a dev so have no idea if its plausible but on my Xperia S it was possible to flash CWM on a locked bootloader.
So has any Dev tried? Or can someone explain why it wouldn't be possible?
Here is the CWM I am talking about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187363
apparently works on Xperia Z as well?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2237084
Please don't hate if its a silly question!!
We have this recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235228 but this doesn't mean you can flash cm10.1, you need unlocked BL to get the kernel, so this recovery is only for roms designed for locked bootloader, which for now is only deodexed stock roms like zaiben

[Q] Please Help in Installing JellyBean

I have Sony ericsson w8 and I have flash it with x8 kernal (2.0.0.A.53) and installed GingerDx. Now I am putting Jelly bean but the naA jb kernal or Ics kernal is showing 'flashing aborted' while flashing . Neither ICS nor JB is installing on my X8. Now i am running gingerDx..
So please help me in installing JB or ICS custom kernal with full procedure.
Thankyou....
Easy method,
1. flash nAa jb 05
2. flash any jb rom u want as mentioned in thread
3.flash nAa jb 06
Or you can workaround by editing the rom zip but above method is easier
Happy Flashing JB
work hard, play hard

use s1tool to check bl status. if you're flashing naa's jb kernel the first time you need to format data cache system apart from the wipes, then flash a compatible rom.

Can my phone sony ericsson has already bootloader unlocked. is it possible??
no, sony ericsson hadn't been that much of "friendly" to AOSP, you need to check it first with s1tool then if your mfg date is 11w29 below you can unlock it

Thank you in advance!
Cordially.

Pardon me it's doomlord's advance stock kernel, mistyped it.
Are you on unlocked bootloader? If yes then only flash the kernel or else you will brick the phone

I have locked bootloader but I plan to unlock it, this is why I inquire about the compatibility of the Kernel with a custom ROM.
(I want install DooMKernel with Cyanogenmod or else.)

If you are going to use it on unlock bootloader then use the DOOMkernel for Xperia SP.
Unlocked bootloader supports various features and tweaks on doomkernel, skip the doomlord's advance stock kernel flash

You can install custom ROM on your stock kernel too as long as bootloader is unlocked.
Unlocked bootloader opens access to more ROM's and can help in flashing Kernels.

If you are following the guide, the custom kernel was intended to give you an access to a recovery. Once you flashed the ROM zip the custom kernel will be gone and you will be running the kernel that was packaged with the custom ROM that you have chose to flash.
