Just wondered how things were moving forward in terms of an Alpha3/beta release for CM9 Touchpad. I haven't yet rooted my TP as I've been waiting for a bit more progress. However news seems to have slowed since Alpha2 went nightly and from what I've read, it seem they can be a bit hit or miss form night to night.
Look at the roms mentionned here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438158
in my case the nightlies have always worked great, with no issues except for the mic/camera of course.
you just have to remember, the people who have touchpad issues are the ones who post, and there are thousands more cm9 users who don't.
I guess I'm just trying to say, go ahead and try it. its pretty stable and alpha3/nightly is just a name.
dalingrin said somewhere on his twitter hes considering the nightlys as beta.
I am running the May 17 OaT's ROM and it is very stable with WIFI working. That was a problem other ROMs. still comparing it to my Acer A500, and while stable, I think I prefer the Acer in many ways.
i can confirm this. the nightlys are very stable

I second that for awhile I was using one of the april nightly builds (can't remember exactly which one) and I found it to be more stable and responsive than Alpha 2. At least on my TP with Alpha 2, if I tried to shut it down it would reboot even though I touched the shut down button but that hasn't occured since moving to the nightly. Recently, I flashed AOKP build 36 and I have to say I am enjoying it and am planning on sticking with it unless one of the nightlys fixes the camera or microphone. I like the extra customizations AOKP ROM control adds and it so far has been just as stable as the CM9 nighty I was using. It's definitely worth checking out.
I've been using the nigthlies since they were released, and now they are hugely stable.

I'm running the nightly from 07-07-2012 and it has the microphone fixed, but still no camera. And I third the nightly's ... they are very stable. I had ClassicNerd and AOKP before and my Touchpad would constantly reboot and the touchscreen would become unresponsive. Ever since I flashed the nightly the Touchpad has been running like a dream. I haven't even overclocked it considering how well it's running.

I dunno I seem to remember there being Nightly's and stable releases. Now we have Unofficial Nightly's. Why? This isnt going to continue is it? Eventually we will get back to just Nightly's and Stable right? Not that its a big deal just seems unnecessary.
As I look through the threads I see there are a good number of people running these Unoffical Nightlys so maybe someone can explain to me the difference between Official and Unofficial. Are they that bad that they cant be official? If they are that bad why are so many people running them? Seems to reason that the unofficial is stable enough so cant we just make them official for god sakes. I mean really whats the worst that can happen? Its not like Cyanogen is going to be sued. Its already assumed that official nightlys are not going to be stable so whats the problem?
Official is being built by the Cyanogen servers and released at their discretion. The unofficials are users creating their own builds (usually with modifications) and being released separately.
That being said, CM7 has been in development for a while so there are both nightlies and stable releases. CM9 is still in early development, and Cyanogen team hasn't been releasing nightlies yet. The ones you see are users releasing it on their own.
You're either not very smart or a terrible reader. Unofficial simply means private individuals are taking it upon themselves to regularly post private builds that they made themselves, for others to take for a test drive. Official builds would come directly from CM, which has not happened yet.
Get a clue.
Perhaps your highness would be kind and gracious enough to direct us to a place where we could read that explanation (assuming, of course, that we can read such lofty material)..
Tongue firmly in cheek.. but.. hey Dude.. lighten up.

I'm kind of confused due to your confusion
What "Unofficial Nightly's" and "Official Nightly's" you are seeing?
Don't tell me that you are confusing the Official Nightly's of CM7 and the Unofficial Nightly's of CM9.
Two different things.
Im sorry! Im trying to keep up with the development of the Nook Color, HTC Droid Eris, and the Galaxy Nexus and I lost it. LOL Not too mention my search for the perfect router to finally rid me of that god awful Linksys WRT54GS combined with the overkill Smoothwall finally ended. My home network has been in shambles till recently. Again I apologize. Its purely my mixup and clearly nothing to do with the information provided at XDA. I just needed to search a bit more. Or I could have asked like I did here but maybe in a more positive tone. Im sorry for that as well.
So I recently purchased the GNEX and I love ICS. OMG I cant tell you how nice it is to finally have a proper smart phone with polished Android Goodness. I want the same for my Nook. From what ive read so far the "Unofficial Builds" seem to run pretty good. Users reporting it runs as good as CM7. Is this true? I mainly use my Nook for watching Netflix and Hulu. I do some light browsing as well. Would the latest build work well enough for me to hop in now?
Thanks for your help and understanding!
I don't know how far but CM9 is far from stable as CM7

Awesome. Reading comprehension skills FTW.
CM9 is nice. Personally, I'd wait for solid wifi and any true resolution on HW accel.
CM7 had 'official' stable releases and 'official' nightlies built by the CyanogenMod automated build process. The last stable was 7.1 but there were nightlies after that which continued to fix some remaining problems.
Back in mid November 2011 the build process suffered from some hardware failures and the nightlies stopped appearing. At the same time ICS was being released and the devs switched their attention to that (CM9) and, although the build process got repaired, the CM7 nightlies were never restarted.
There were some outstanding issues in CM7 that had got fixed but never built by the official process into either a stable or a nightly. That is where the 'unofficial' builds stepped in and built new ROMS from the source incorporating the latest fixes and including some other improvements. The most common of these is the MiRaGe build found in the thread in development and that has been very stable, gives great performance and is often referred to as 7.2
CM9 is effectively still in an alpha form and does not have official nightlies or 'stables' yet. The developers did encourage people to learn how to build ROMS from the source and some have now made these 'unofficial' nightlies available.
Some find these unofficial CM9 nightlies good and stable enough for daily use; I am one. There are trade offs; the CM7 ROMS are generally a bit snappier in performance and there are one or two limitations in CM9 functionality (e.g. hw video acceleration) but this is balanced by a significantly nicer user interface and functionality in CM9. You just choose based on what is important to you.
Nandroid backups are always your friend and allows you try out various options at low risk and just a few minutes to fully restore to a former point.
Thanks for the summary and info.
But how well does Hulu and Netflix work? Right now thats the most important thing.
Im currently running CM7 stable with the processor clocked at 925. I see alot of people running overclock kernels so when you say CM9 isnt as snappy to which are you comparing to. Low end or high?
Either. I'm running CM9 at 1200 right now and there is still lag (haven't done any tweaks though, working on other things). Besides that, I don't think Netflix is working on CM9 yet. If you are wanting stability, smoothness, and more application compatibility, CM9 isn't quite there yet.
It's funny how the people calling the OP clueless seem blissfully unaware of the situation with nightlies the last few months, but bobtidey broke it down well. The automated system for CM7 nightlies is broken, but the updated source is still available, and some people are sharing their builds from source (MiRaGe being the most reliable atm).
If Hulu and Netflix are your priorities, CM9 is probably not for you just yet. You can try it out a number of ways,
As bobtidey said, back up your current build, flash CM9, and if you're not happy go back.
Set it up on SD--there's a link in my sig for that, just grab CM9 and a compatible gapps instead of CM7.
Repartition the NC and set up a dual boot like mine (also linked in my sig) with MiRaGe's CM7.2 and Samiam's CM9.
If you just want a fresher flavor and don't want to mess around too much, I'd say go w/ MiRaGe's build.
Blah! It is what it is. As stated things have been pretty hectic around here. Now that I think of it things are always hectic. So I overlooked something and needed correction.
I just may dual boot. Ive wanted to try MiRaGe for awhile now anyways. I hear great things. Should be a nice upgrade over CM7 stable right? Thanks for info!
Hi i just bought a new Hp touchpad.
I want to know what is the best rom for it.
I know that there are cyanogen 7 and 9 ports.
There are things that are not working on some of them , so if cynogen 7 is working and stable i think i would install that and wait for cyanogen 9 to become stable.
Can you give some advice , what to do , which rom shoud i install.
Thank you , and sorry if this is a noob question
CM9 alpha 2, its stable and actually running better than cm7
There are also several "kang" builds in the Dev section. I've been running CherryKang lately, with good results.
Thans guys , so have you had any problems with these roms?
Except the camera are there some other quirks?
And do you know how long is the period between releases ?
Thanks again

The cherryrom still doesn't have Netflix working but has HD YouTube working (it states that in his top post). The nightlies have everything working from alpha2 with only a couple changes that will be merged into the next official release anyways. The cornerstone ROM is really slow and bricked ROM hasn't seen public releases after alpha2. And there's protekk's AOKP and classnerd, neither have Netflix working either.
I say go for the nightly. And I guess development has slowed because everyone is waiting on dalingrin for new stuff. I'm guessing the kernel is going to be updated to 3.0 and or they're working on audio.
Samsung Captivate CM9 - Glitch Kernel | HP TouchPad CM9 - Bricked Kernel
I honestly haven't tried Netflix (I guess it's not working), and only a few games. There are a few notable ones that don't work, but for normal stuff it's all good. The main problem that I've had with CM (I've only used CM9 and skipped CM7), is that the TP will essentially lock up, often times when charging on the touchstone charger. That said, ever since upgrading to the latest CherryKang (0.9), I haven't had a single issue (knock on wood). I have tried Bricked and the official CM9 alpha and both did the same thing, so I think it's just a Cm issue (there are a few similar issues going around, it seems).
Go for AOKP.
M4 has working netflix and youtube.
I personally haven't found a rock solid rom , but there are a few that are really close to it. I'd say try the new cherry-kang v9.2 with o/c , HD youtube' + netkflix etc. Syn(3.10.2012). Its fast and reliable. I have to reset my Wi-Fi the least with this one.
I'm running aokp and nextflix and YouTube work no problem for me

I'd have to agree with the above post, the latest CherryKang (standard cm9 version, not the bricked rom) has proven the most stable for me. Unless you expect to be using the camera/microphone a great deal on the TouchPad, I would definitely suggest taking the jump to CM9.
I did just flash the Cornerstone 1.1 rom w/ 120 DPI patch, and although there have been a couple of very minor glitches, it's performing fairly well so far. (I was forced to reboot my TP-audio distortion- and my wifi reconnected without me having to use the forget the network/reboot rescue method. I haven't personally tried the AOKP Milestone 4 rom, so you might want to check out that thread and decide for yourself.
As for your question on release dates, other than the nightlies, they come out whenever the developer has something new to put out. Since I've been following these forums, it's generally taboo to openly ask a developer for the next release date. Doing so may make you susceptible to verbal reprimand from other members. Personally I'm not blasting you, but I don't want to see someone else fire back at you in a more harsh manner in the future.
Good luck with whichever rom you decide to flash!
HTC Thunderbolt - Shifts3ns3 3.1; HP Touchpad CherryKang v9.2;
I've recently been running AOKP M4 with great results, I like it
CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 2 is also fantastic
I wouldn't really suggest any others though.
I have cm9 on mine and Wifi doesn't reconnect a lot after waking from sleep. Ill check out this cherry one I guess.

I'd vote for AOKP. Its running really well on my touchpad.
Alright guys, first let me make this absolutely clear I'm not trying to bash Cyanogen I am only asking if others have similar experiences or if maybe there is something I can do to resolve my own issues with CM roms and hey, if there appears to be some recurring thread possibly help them out.
During CM7 I didn't really have many problems in regards to speed.. CM7 was at least as snappy as any other randomly picked rom. Even if I updated nightly to the newest nightly. If I had a problem, flash back and everything was good to go.
When CM9 rolled out at first it was alright especially because I was very accepting of quirks in alpha roms and up. After a while though, my phone just seemed "slower" eventually I just found a stable enough version and stuck to it since it worked "well enough" but, it never really felt complete.
Flash forward to yesterday when I tried an unofficial CM10 alpha rom with "none of the frills" and now my phone is moving faster and over all smoother than it has possibly ever moved. I've been wondering if anyone had similar experiences or heck even the opposite experience and had any idea as to why it's happening.
Even after reinstalling almost all the same apps that I'd use on a daily basis, I find that the alpha "no-frills" CM10 is still running more smoothly than any version of CM9 I tried.
A
I am finding that CM10 has currently been much more enjoyable to have than the versions of CM9 that I have been trying out. But since I've only had CM10 on my phone for only a day, I don't know if I can give much criticism on the issue. It has been, however, the first ROM that I've flashed that I have actually done clean (wiped all data), so that could have helped speed things up...
Hello,
I have installed CM10 some time ago and i've notice that the device gets really slow to the point that it takes a few seconds from any app to come up once "clicked"
Anyone can recommend a fast ROM for this device?
Thanks.
Any CM7 flavor will get you there. It is up for debate as to whether the MCROM, Mirage, or official CM7.2 is faster, but I think it's mostly splitting hairs.
I don't know if CM10, when finally finished cooking, will ever be able to match the speed of CM7, but I doubt it.

For me the CM10 seems faster than the CM7 - CM10 is stll being worked on, but for me it is stable and fast. Screen draws are quick.

I'm currently running CM9 with V6 supercharge scripts enabled and it cooks along at a good clip. No lag or any issues at all.
The current CM10 Alpha is pretty fast

I've been doing my own builds of CM10 for a while, and it's easily twice as fast as CM9 right now, even in alpha. Bit stuttery, though.
CM10 is a bit better than 9, but 7 is clearly the fastest. I think 512MB RAM is just not enough for Android 3/4, and these OSs are clearly also more demanding on the CPU and GPU.
I don't know which one is fastest and I recommend you try them all. We have many excellent developers working on ROMs for the Nook.
I seem to be having very good experiences with the latest MiRaGe build from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873 and the updated Kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649390.
M-Rom has some very nice eye-candy if that is what you prefer and of course CM9/CM10 add all kinds of nice features.
I hope this helps.
Personally, I'd actually recommend trying the newest CM10 Alpha that's been going around. It's quite stable, minus the lack of OpenGL (hardware acceleration), HD YouTube, and Netflix. Although, if you can, I'd build it from source. A lot of bugs have been fixed since they have gotten CM10 up and running, including the n button bug in the thread.
For me, it feels like every time I update my source code and build, it gets faster and faster each time.
First of all, great job to all the devs and all the people that are still working hard on the old but yet always renew Nook Color, I appreciate the non stop hard work.
I'm loving what this new baby CM10 alpha is doing with my Nook, it is faster, more responsive and so far more stable than the ICS builds that I have tried. Wonderful job guys. And I know it is just the beginning.
I'm running the eMMC dual boot by Taosaur. I'm running CM7 on the alternative partition and CM10 alpha on the primary partition and both are running great. It is the beat combo yet.

I went from CM11 M12, which I was never really happy with, to the Nov 2015 CM11 nightly about 3 months ago. I've got the HD. At first it was fine and seemed to run better than M12. Lately, it's become a little quirky and I'm wondering if the 3 later nightlies and that available will improve things. Looking for comments from anyone who's on one the more recent CM11 nightlies to chime in. FWIW, my main apps are Chrome, Amazon (shopping and Kindle), NYTimes, Overdrive (lets me download and read e-books from my library), and Facebook.
Thanks.
I just stopped using CM 11 (nightlies) and moved to Marshmallow. I originally went from the snapshot (like you) but moved to nightlies to see if any of the bugs I had were fixed. So far things have been better... it's also less buggy and more secure (patched with latest security updates). So I would say go for it based off of experience with a back up beforehand, of course. And since the Kitkat nightlies are basically over, you won't get many (if any) new features by now since Kitkat is now over 2 years old. So Kitkat nightlies seem plenty stable to me (especially recently... some of the "glitches" are going away for me). But if you're adventurous... I would recommend going to Marshmallow or Lollipop. They are surprisingly stable and more efficient for me (for example games run smoother (even a little faster!) on Marshmallow than Kitkat... and no screen "glitches" which I had. Plus it's more beautiful ) Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/development/marshmallow-nook-hd-hd-t3239269 .

Thanks. I think I'll try the latest CM11 nightly and if it doesn't improve things, give Lollipop a shot first.
Running amaces CM13 and they're pretty solid. Just did the switch this weekend. A lot better performance, so far.
