.wma media player? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Anyone know how to play .wma files on this phone? I've tried the stock players and winamp but get a message the device doesn't support this file type.

convert it to mp3 or flac format ? idk because i dont have any wma media files since i just switched from an iphone

Thanks for the thought but this won't work for me... unless the converter is an android app? The .wma files I'm trying to open are voicemails from work that come through my email and thats the format our exchange server puts them in.

No changes yet. The demo was for whats to come in a later update. Theres absolutely no change in froyo.
No change in Froyo. The new music player is for the Gingerbread update.

That is a shame, if google put as much effort into the music player, as they did the gallery, they would be set.
Mine didn't either

thnx I wish they would sooner because the music really SUCKS and is flat on there
Nope, no sign of the Music player demoed in the keynote. I suggest Cubed, it's a very slick music player.
I like mixZing too. Automatically makes intelligent choices on what to play next based on your current music queue

are you sure look at when that guy transfers music onto his phone from a computer the controls look different unless he is using another player?
apk path has to be different, because i tried to apply the music mod that was available on 2.1 (allowed you to put a decent looking widget with album cover on a screen)
now i have two copies of music :/ my headset buttons control only the froyo version, but not the music widget i want.
sucks, lol
!!
Hey guys if your having problems playing some music files here's what you do:
Put the music that you can't play on your sd card.
Get "Astro file manager" from the market.
open the app and find your music.
select the song click and hold it...
select "Edit" and then "Rename"
delete what ever is after .
(for example, song Iloveyou.wma)
(delete the wma and type .mp3
and your all SET!
I cant play .wav files, I get voicemail from my office (exchange) in a .wav format and I cant play them anymore (used to on 2.1).
Runing 2.2 now, any suggestions?
I contacted the developer of btunes and he said he doesn't even have permission to develop or put an equalizer on his music player whatever that is supposed to mean? lol

Same here. My voip carrier send voicemails as GSM6.1/wav email attachments. My N1 cannot open play them. So I have no suggestions but would love to be able to play them on the phone.

I am looking for a way to fix this as well... but I have not had any luck finding anyone with a fix.
I suppose it is just not as important to very many people... but it sure would be nice to be able to listen to my voice mail I get in my inbox.
Hmmmmmm...
I seem to be able to play wav files in the CM music app, Rock Player, and PowerAMP. Suggest trying one of those...

I had the same problem until I upgraded to Gingerbread (using micromod777's ROM). Now all of my music has been recognized again.

Read music on my computer using Wi-Fi ?

I'm looking for an application that can read music and use playlists located on my computer in Windows Media Reader, using Wi-Fi. My files are all MP3 and WMA.
Can anybody help me ?
Skytunes works via wifi, or 3G

Thanks for the info. Skytunes looks interesting and uses Adobe Air and seems to be able to stream music using WiFi. Unfortunately it does not handle WMA files and a good chunk of my 60+GB of music is WMA...
Here's something interesting...
I just navigated from my phone to a folder on my PC (using EStrongs Explorer), and clicked a WMA file, to see if I could stream it. The file played after about 2 seconds, but the screen was blank so I've no idea what was playing it...?
I'll keep digging...

For rooted phones with custom ROMs (or just custom kernels with CIFS support), and for users that know a bit UNIX and aren't afraid to use Terminal:
Search Development forum for "CIFS mount".
I've been playing with Twonky to serve media from my PC to my Revue. There's also a Twonky app for Android, and so I can now stream from PC to my Nexus...
Works great, kinda expense for PC client (I'm still using demo), and no idea of supported formats, but maybe worth a look?

Subsonic is a good app.

Mp3 vs. Wma crisis

So I have all of my music on my phone from my computer and it only plays the mp3. Most of my music is in Wma format. I've looked for music player apps on the marketplace but none of them are playing Wma. What do I do??

Convert your music to mp3.
How can I do that? Lol I'm a noob
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
just doing a market search on WMA shows me a few players claiming to support the format. If not just google WMA to MP3 convertor, I'm sure there are plenty of those available.
Try this. It's a good program and should do the job. It's called Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Transferring music from iTunes

As a noob to Android as well as the Atrix HD, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether I have to convert the mp4 music file format iTunes uses to mp3 before I use Welcome Home to transfer the music. I'd like to do this in one swell foop if you know what I mean. I also have no idea if I can transfer the ring tones I made in iTunes to this phone and if so, how do I do it? My phone will arrive today and I'm so excited to finally leave Apple and the closed OS ecosystem.
Also if anyone has any tips early on, I'd love to hear them. ATT has some good tutorials and the Atrix manual seems good too.
Thanks.
Have you looked into doubletwist?

Download Google music on your computer and sync with iTunes and boom music.. I have 30gb of music without having one song on my phone

My laptop runs WinXP and I installed Music Manager and it seemed very buggy so I couldn't upload my iTunes. I also installed Double Twist and it easily imported my iTunes music but all the files show the lock (DRM). Are you saying that once Double Twist is installed on my phone that the Atrix running 4.0.4 will play the music without any problems? I was looking at the online manual for the phone and I see that Moto/ATT offer the Welcome Home apps for both PC and phone so that also may be the solution. I'm just trying to figure out if I need to convert the music files in iTunes from mp4 to mp3 so that they will play on the phone.. Any ideas?
Thanks folks.. much appreciated.

[Q] Downloading music

I have had all three versions of the EVO and have always been able to download free mixtapes with my phone and use a file explorer to transfer the files to my music folder and they were instantly in my player. With the HTC One I can download them and move them and even play them from e'sfile explorer but my music player never sees them. If I connect phone HTC one to my computer and put the same songs in my music folder they show up instantly... What the hell is going on? No SD card problem?
Appreciate the help in advance
You need to rescan the phone for media. There are apps for that. I think one is even called rescan media

If you are downloading legal music via mixtapes etc why not just go to mixtapetorrent.com and use the utorrent app to download the music. You can use utorrent to direct the music to the spot you want it on your phone. Thus no need for the file explorer etc.
Are you serious that this amazing phone requires a 3rd party app to recognize mp3's in the music folder? I can do that but it really doesn't click with how advanced this thing is. My old HTC phones didn't need that.
I have no issues with the Music player seeing music in the music folder..

No, it doesn't need another app to recognize the apps. It's just not triggering the operating system to rescan for media files. Android scans the entire storage on boot or between mounting the storage for new media files (pictures, audio, video, etc) and then adds them to the libraries they belong to. Certain actions can bypass this scanning for new media. This app I suggested manually tells the system to scan for these files. It's nearly instantaneous when you do it. I've had to use it before on other devices, you literally open the app and you're done.
For some crazy reason I can not get any of four albums to show up. Rebooted phone, ran rescan media. Even pulled one song out of it's sub-folder and put it straight into the music folder.

Example: 08 Orianthi - Another You.mp3
10-orianthi-highly_strung.mp3
01 Lights Of Manos.mp3
From 3 albums that worked on my OG Evo this morning.
I had the same problem and after getting the music player to play the song it said the format wasn't supported. And these were songs I played on my galaxy nexus fine. And astro file explorer plays them fine too...
