[Q] update bootloader with mobile odin pro v2.35 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
my phone currently have stock ICS LPY. i want to use latest ALBA release. the release has a new bootloader that I need to update with odin. I tried using mobile odin. when I chose the rom file it added it under category param and I flashed it. now before I update my rom to the alba rom how do I know if it worked? I mean.. I googled and found several old posts that say that people should not update bootloader with mobile odin.
is it still the case? I must use a mobile odin on a regular pc ?
my phone works.. does it mean that I didn't break anything ?
I'm asking because I don't have a windows machine available and i really don't know how to even properly compile and execute the Heimdall frontend and I never even used it so I prefer to ask here first.
thank you!

[Q] Rooted on KK9 - Can I safely OTA to KL7?

I apologize in advance if this has already been asked and answered, but I did search and couldn't find a definitive answer.
I have a "German" Note which came with 2.3.5 initially, I did one OTA update (to KK9) and it appears that luckily for me, I was still able to use the ZergRush exploit and root it and get the custom CWM, etc.
Now as I sit on KK9, I see that there is another OTA update available to me (KL7?) that clocks in at about 71MB.
With root, custom CWM, and CF-Root 5.0 at the moment, I don't want to lose that in an update.
So, is it safe to OTA or should I download something else and flash it via CWM? If so, what should I download and how should I flash it?
Thanks! Just don't want to brick or loose root.
-Rob
(From memory only
You can "safely" update: that is, some users have reported no problems but I've already read issues with backup managers not being able to unfreeze apps, boot loops, and keyboard/random apps crashing when you try to open them.
KL7 is a stunning update (my battery now lasts forever). I'm going to root later in the summer once everything becomes stable.

After update, you cant root it with zergrush exploit as previous. Better you download full rom, install mobile odin pro, n flash it with 'ever root' option. So will get root during flashing
Thank you!
How can I confirm that the update being offered via OTA from KK9 is indeed KL7? Is that the most appropriate and current update path to follow? I know there are many different builds for potentially different devices, and I just want to make sure I am on the right path, and am merely assuming at this point that KL7 is the next step for my Note.
Thanks again, your advice makes much sense, and with already being Root and having Mobile Odin Pro, this seems like a much more intelligent approach. I want my device to be rooted, but rock stock and absolutely stable otherwise.
Regards,
-Rob
I can only say 71MB is almost exactly what I remember the KL7 update being. Other than that, I don't know how you can check (alternatively, you could download the update from XDA, apply it, then check for OTAs to see whether or not it was KL7).

So, what if you have CWM installed? Can I use Mobile Odin still? Or will this get rid of my CMW recovery and/or screw something else up?
if you use cwm still u can flash it to kl7, but again same, u cant root it. So using mobile odin pro, u can root kl7 during flashing by selecting 'eve root' n again u can cf root n get cwm for kl7 as you did it b4
Edit : yes with installed cwm still can use mobile odin, n remember u need pro version of mobile odin

Got the pro version. Thanks!
So just to make sure, coming from Stock KK9, rooted + with CWM:
Flash KL7 w/ ever root option Odin Pro
Re-install KL7 version of CWM.
Should all be set?
This is non-wipe too right? So everything should remain in tact?
Exactly, and when v dont select re partition box, it shud remain intact.(here also v dont selecting) But always keep backup b4 these kind of stuff.
Edit: I was able to get my phone flashed and updated to KL8. The process I used I descibed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21153439#post21153439
Ok, I'm using Mobile Odin Pro to try to flash to KL7 from KK5. I have root + CWM in KK5, use Mobile Odin according to the instructions to flash KL7...but I always get stuck at the "Samsung Galaxy Note" boot screen. No matter how long I leave it, it will stay that way. To recover, I have to use Odin on PC to reflash KK5 and then reroot. Any suggestions on what else to try?
I couldn't get flashing with Mobile Odin to work correctly. I ended up getting the update to work by using CWM to flash the KL8 firmware, while pre-rooting. I then had to fix the keyboard issue by flashing the CSC, as mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997.
Once I did that, I installed CMW Manager again using the method found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360. With the firmware updated and the radio working (phone wouldn't work in KL7) I just restored everything from a Titanium Backup file and it's all working.

I'll be interested to know if upgrade works with mobile odin. And also if root can be kept this way.
BTW, downloading too.
Is it multi-CSC?
Thread in General, poster said mobile odin from CM9 -> root achieved! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25911144&postcount=89
Careful, people. You might not be able to revert to any other Rom if you flash it straight away.

ICS STUNNER ---> ICS STOCK premium suite??

Anyone got a easy step by step guide to go from ICS Stunner to the GERMAN STOCK OFFICIAL that is floating around in the forums???
Do i have to go back to gingerbread and then do upgrade or is there a easier process to go from stunner to stock Germany?
Thanks in advance i am sure there are others that are thinking this same thing as the ICS STunner was the popular rom with ICS

Just use good old mobile odin and flash the rom, make sure you use the wipe settings to
i was also on ics stunner 1.4.26.1 i just downloaded the stock rom copied the tar.md5 file and flashed it through mobile odin pro, these steps worked for me, but however there is a problem with my samsung keyboard whatever keys i type it only shows null null ... changed it to swype keyboard there is no problem with swype but however there is a problem with samsung keyboard in this build
so basically install mobile ODIN, Put the tar.md5 file on sd card, point mobile odin to the md5 file and use wipe settings and thats it?
sounds easy downloading the file now hope it works if i am wrong in this procedure or if anyone can add extra things i should do before i flash let me know thank you!!!
Do not use mobile odin to flash from a rom that uses the leaked kernel repack;
Use PC odin.
You risk permanently bricking your note.

Can you kindly give me a step by step then if possible? some say use mobile some say dont? what is best way to flash [email protected]!!!
You can use Mobile Odin but it's not recommended if you're on a leaked ROM/kernel. Use PC Odin and flash it from there.
Just follow the short "guide" here.

Flash the ICS ROM that is already prerooted form this thread, it's stock ICS with only root.. Flash it with PC Odin and you're good to go..
Ok guys here goes.
I downloaded one of the stock ICS roms. For Premium Suite make sure its bigger than 600MB. There is various sources.
I flashed using PC Odin (V1.85) then did a full wipe after flashing. Its all running buttery smooth now. Enjoy!
(First boot will take a while. Just wait it out. Any longer then 15 mins, get worried!)

Note : If you have i9220 bootloader, dont use pc odin, mobile odin will work. There is no way to remove bootloader till now .Chaifire have brick his device due to this. AFAIK i9220 repack LP5 only have this bootloader

WRONG
I am talking about kernels, not bootloaders.
If you use mobile odin, it will use the bugged kernel to flash the mobile odin kernel, therefore risking bricking your phone.
The risk is a lot smaller then using CWM recovery to flash a rom, but it is still there.
I do not know which extra steps to take if you have a different bootloader.

Do not confuse people with incorrect information.
Only those who somehow managed to flash Chainfire's original LP5 repack have said
bootloaders.
Since that flashing procedure is so complicated, I doubt there's more than 1-2
users who managed to do that.
And don't use red fonts to post panicky and false warnings.
so dumb question i have the international version of note in USA - can I use the german rom or ??

Help on upgrading to ics firmware

i have a unit with UBKK1 baseband version, which i learned was a brazilian rom. Now i currently live in the Philippines and i cant get an ICS update thru kies here because of the rom. i went to the samfirmware site and found a Philippine rom, my question is can i flash this rom over the old GB brazilian rom using odin without any problems? my phone is currently unrooted thru the one click method, it was previously rooted thru the same method.
Ive also read you can change the country code, if i change it to the Philippine code and update thru kies will it work??
if you change the csc then yes you should be able to upgrade with kies tho i always download the rom i want then use pc odin its just a personal preference
Why don't you download Stock ICS ROM directly.... And flash it using pc odin??
can i download any stock ICS rom and just flash it with odin without any problems?
Yes you can.
Ive just now rooted my note on brazilian rom (stock GB rom), if i upgrade to the taiwanese rom using pc odin will i still retain root? and do i need to uncheck the usb debugging before proceeding with pc odin?
No you wont keep root.
Yes uncheck usb debugging.

I would buy Mobile Odin Pro from the market, and flash this rom from here http://www.hotfile.com/dl/156659405/b6c3080/N7000DXLP9_N7000OLBLP6_XTC.zip.html . This will flash the correct rom and keep root.
thanks for all the helpful replies, i was able to successfully flash taiwanese ics firmware update using pc odin. and you guys are right, i did lose root. now the only problem is how to go back on root as i've frozen a lot of apps on titanium backup before and those apps aren't showing after the update. it seems like flashing over to a newer firmware didnt reset the phone. all my previously installed apps are still there.
Guys, after updating to ics, i couldn't install apks using astro file manager or even the stock file manager.Pressing the install button won't work. Previously on gb stock rom everything works. Is this an ics bug?

need a little help flashing a ROM

My wife asked me to put her phone back to stock Samsung firmware as she didn't want CM10.1 anymore (yes, I said she was silly)
Anyway the problem is.....My computer will not recognise her phone, It's running Windows 8 are the i9000 incompatible?
I have Kies installed and it recognises my phones fine, both Samsungs.
So....I was wandering if either there is anyone that knows how to sort this out as I have tried everything I can think of. Or are there flashable ZIP packages anywhere of stock firmware I can flash through recovery?
Thank for any help

Use task manager to kill any Kies tasks that you find running, install i9000 windows driver (google search) than flash desired rom (preribly stock) via odin.
Yes, I did that just yesterday running Win8.
You can find stock roms over HERE
---------------------------------------------------
phone: i9000
rom: CyanAOSP v0.5.2
kerel: Semaphore 2.9.7s
Thanks for your quick response! I always kill kies when using Odin so that wasn't an issue. However I was under the impression that installing kies gave me the drivers so thank you for your advice I'll install i9000 drivers separately and hopefully sus it out.
Thanks mate
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
If I can I always flash using Heimdall on Linux - I don't have to worry about drivers.
