CM9 till month same issues? - LG Optimus 2x

Hey guys,
I already tested the novaHD and some other ICS CM9 roms for our p990
But i see no Progress, but why.?
Same issues all the time Media Acceleration Video etc. Not working.
I googled and did not find any Information
Why is there no Progress?
No drivers?
Greetings from Germany.

No drivers. Its not the devs fault.
sent from my wii remote

The developers are doing a awesome work with ics. We should be glad that cm9 is working as good as it does despite lack of drivers.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk

Looks like CM9 support has been dropped: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/16278/1/vendorsetup.sh
For how long who knows.

Ahh, then it depends on LG ?
sry that it sounded like i criticized the devs, it was not so meant.
For other devices (working) ics roms are available, because the drivers were released from the Manufacturers?
Thx 4 your answers

It is not entirely LG's fault for this, nvidia hasn't release the proper ICS binaries for this processor if i'm not wrong.
And somehow none of these devices having this processor has released ICS yet.

Read Ricardo Cerqueira google+ post, around the date of ICS Kang release. You will find lot of information and nothing have change.

Thx 4 all your answers.
I Read some Threads --> Google TEGRA 2 ICS or P990 ICS Drivers
And i got one question :
Does nVidia not give the drivers to LG
or is LG not allowed to give us the drivers ?
or nVidia doesnt have any ?

Well, there is no Tegra2 phone with an official ICS ROM at the moment. Make of that what you will.

a500 has ics, and kernel source was released last week.

It is not the same tegra 2. One is Harmony and the other is Ventana.

That doesn't even make sense. Harmony and Ventana are development boards, not chip types.
Phones have an AP20H, tablets have a T20.

this piece of news says that this update will be out in 2 or tree weeks... i hope its true.
still 2.6.32.9 kernel according to the picture
so its the same bastardized bullsh** like the G2x ...
well done LG, like selling a Windows 7 themed Windows 95 ~.~
I aint so sure about that. That kernel should contain all the functions GB need. Correct me if I'm wrong
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
As long as you stay with the stock rom, it doesn't make any difference at all I think. If you want to create/hack something else it would have been better with a newer kernel version. Nvidia cleaned up and standardized lots of stuff in their 2.6.36 version so it would have made it a lot easier to modify for proper usb/bluetooth/etc support.

Arcee called the G2x Gingerbread bastardized, because it is simply Gingerbread hacked around Froyo drivers and user space. It may run and look like Gingerbread, but lots of benefits which should be introduced with gingerbread will be left out.
Like I said, Its like running Windows 7 with hacked XP drivers.

agree with you, you'll miss a lot like better battery management, more i/o scheduler, maybe new cpu governor except performance/powersave, something like that will be offering with new kernel... offcourse LG can patch this feature to existing feature, i think that will more not cost effective because there maybe some pre requisite that need to be match..
will cyanogenmod and miui profit from the upcoming release?

It is possible to compile for armv5, and as far as I know armv5 is compatible with armv6. I don't have enough powerful PC to do that (it would take like 30-40h to compile on my PC). So maybe someone could do that.

First of all i'm not 100% sure about i'm about to say, but:
NVidia will probably never publish source codes of their drivers. They never did and they never will. Only phone manufacturer (LG in this case) can ask NVidia to make for them a specific kernel (or HAL?) with all required drivers. As far as i know LG is planning to do it becouse they want to give us official ICS "soon".
And about taking drivers from other devices...
It's quite complicated. In simple words hw video drivers are connected to specific kernel and somehow with other drivers (f.e sound, radio) which are diffrent then in f.e galaxy R. Samewhere on Ricardo Cerqueira's Google+ page was a discussion where someone explained how does it work and why it doesn't, but i can't find it atm.
Sorry about my english

What would be the purpose of Qualcomm releasing user-mode driver binaries for Adreno 2xx GPU on Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich if it wasn't possible to integrate them with AOSP for any Adreno 2xx GPU?

Ok, i have no clue how it works, but still - HAL uses libs that are in kernel (HAL is dynamically linked with them). If other kernel version has diffrent structs, HAL simply won't work with that kernel. I thought that diffrent devices have a bit diffrent hw related libs (maybe some phones like O2X do?) in kernel which is messing up with HAL.
Taking into account Your post, at this point i have no idea why HAL is or is not related to specific device.

Well, as far as I know, Android uses slightly modified Linux kernel. Starting from 3.X.X Linus T. started to include Android code into Linux. Anyway, conclusion is that provided code and binaries probably can be used to build fully-functional kernel for ICS, but it would be quite hard task and need a lot of effort. If LG will provide theirs plan to don't upgrade O2X, it looks reasonable to start such project, until that happened it can be waste of time.

Obviously, it may need to develop kind of adapters between provided drivers and interfaces required by ICS. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of details regarding interaction between android (dalvik) and kernel, but according to my understanding it is possible.

HW Accelerated ICS Roms

Anyone know an ICS Rom that has HW acceleration? I've tried Nova and Hellfire Sandwich but neither has that. Suggestions. Currently runnign stable CM 7.2.
The ISC drivers that are needed for acceleration are available, but are useless until LG releases some sort of Kernel to work with the drivers to my understanding. They are obligated to release the kernel and other stuff needed for developers to build a Complete and stable rom, but no one knows when. It should be soon tho, my guess 1week-1month maybe even sooner.
Here is the website, not sure if its official or not. As you can see, the kernel currently on the site is for v20(Gingerbread I think) we need v30 which is for ICS
http://code.google.com/p/openstar2x/
Since we don't have the drivers, we can't have hw accelerated roms.. so you'd better wait for lg official update..

@Dimension 2035 Thanks for the explanation. Is it safe to assume that when official ICS for p990 drops (its out for su660) then the dev team will have the kernel they need to work with?
@Byteater Definitely won't ever do an official LG update. When I tried upgrading to official Gingerbread my phone got bricked past recovery, luckily the guys i bought it from sent me a new one and so instead I just flashed CM 7 the next time and it works great... prolly better than official LG ICS when that comes out.

NO!
we have to wait for the sources otherwize we wont know what to do with the binaries, also, 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 didnt suffer such drastic changes as its made obvious by the very small difference from 1 to the other, theyr both 4. something, so theyr almost the same except for some optimizations in jb if i didnt understand wrong. bottom line is, as soon as we get the sources well have a fully working cm10 rom in very little time, drivers are all thats missing since only camera doesnt work properly now... (at least in the cm10 rom im using(tony. p's hackfest)
I'll be waiting patiently for the developers to work their magic I guess!

Hi.
I'm using Nova HD rebuild ICS CM9 ROM on my Optimus 2x and i'm very happy with it but I'm missing HW support. It was said that the devs couldn't do anything until LG releses update for ICS. This is what I found on internet:
"Android 4.0 now available for LG Optimus 2X... in South Korea, anyway" (sorry I can't post a link...it's on engadget.com)
so would this help or are we still just hopping nont to be stuck on GB.
Tnx for answer.
