I was previously on HTC desire hd rooted and bought Rom manager.
Now I've got a new note and pc odin flashed lpy the 638mb one.
I then rooted by copying the zips of su busybox and cwm to use in recovery. Not chainfire.
Recovery install from ext sd. Cwm then su.
That went fine. Have root.
But no clockworkmod installed.
Rom manager offers but asks which phone I have and the note isn't there! Just galaxy s1 and 2 atandt stuff etc.
Id like to flash other stuff in the future and feel naked without cwm.
1. Please what do?
2. Should I pay for mobile odin now? Is Rom manager not good. this board talks Always about mobile odin.
3. What's this I hear about super su? What's wrong with su? She getting old droopy woman?
The method you used will only give you a temporary CWM, and after you reboot your mobile (as what you did), its back to stock recovery without CWM.
If you really want CWM in your recovery, the only way is to flash the kernel with CWM. You can use mobile odin to flash the ZImage file (kernel with cwm).
Good luck.

Hi all
I am using a Galaxy S I9000 International running stock 2.1.1.
I have rooted my device using super one click (psneuter exploit).
As far as i understand it, this is the process i now need to complete:
1) Install ROM Manager
2) Using RM, flash CWM Recovery ROM.
3) Boot into recovery, and create a Nandroid backup
4) Flash Darky's / CWM / Cyanogen ROM for everlasting happiness.
I am having endless trouble with step 2 and 3.
In RM, i flash CWM Recovery ROM. But then when i boot into recovery, it still runs the old stock android recovery <2e>. I've repeated this flashing & reboot process 5 times with no luck.
Please will someone provide me with an easy noob approach, and please try to explain tech jargon if you use it.
MANY thanks!
FORGET that i read your post wrong

personally I have never used rom manager to flash CWM I always use odin and do a kernel flash you should find kernel files (.tar's) at around 6-7MB which included the CWM mod) all you need is the pit and the kernel all done in a few seconds simply reboot to download mode and use odin to falsh the new kernel.
the file I regularly use is called CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.tar flashed it dozens of times it's never let me down I found it on this forum somewhere.
once you have that on you can install pretty much anything from recovery mode in CWM.
First off i am kind of a noob and haven't flashed any rom ext.
I have a rooted captivate on stock 2.3.5 and wanted to know how to get ICS.
Any advice on the easiest way to do this or ROMs that you recommend would be great
Thanks
If you have cwm...ask you need to do is, factory reset and format /system in recovery and flash the ROM, when that's done it'll probably boot back into recovery (which will probably look different because its the ics kernel recovery) and flash the Rom once more, and you're done.
Thanks, but what is cwm and how do I get the ics rom on my phone
Also how do I back up the phone so I don't lose all of my data?

Cwm= clockwork mod recovery.
How did you root, a custom kernel swap? If so that's got cwm.
you can transfer the ROM via usb...or download it directly to your phone.
backup your contacts to your gmail and/or Sim card (i do both)
Download and run titanium backup to backup your apps.

First, back everything up like studa recommended. If you are not on a custom kernel, download the speedmod kernel and odin in my attachments. Then download an ICS rom that you like. Put the rom on your phone. Open Odin on your computer, and select the speedmod kernel in the PDA section. Put your phone into download mode and flash the kernel. After the flash is done and your phone reboots, remove your battery to turn off your phone. Reboot into recovery and navigate to install zip/install custom zip and navigate to your chosen rom. After it installs, install it again from the new ICS recovery screen (it's probably different colored). Then, reboot your device and wait a few minutes for your rom to start. Afterwards, the apps, contacts, etc. can be restored.
Facing big problem:
- Over a stock phone: flashed SGN_XX_OXA_KJI using PC odin.
- Flashed CF root kernal + CWM using BAT file. (KJ1)
- Phone was rooted and CWM installed.
- When it says flash CF kernel by placing on SD card, it think i did a mistake and using mobile odin I flashed KJ1 kernel again (I dont know which kernel to be flashed and where to get that).
- Seemingly phone got bricked and wont boot.
Somehow I managed to access the download mode.
- Flashed stock firmware GTN-7000_CPW_Blah
- Phone came back to life
- flashed SGN_XX_OXA_KJI using PC odin again
- Flashed CF root kernal + CWM using BAT file. (KJ1)
- Phone was rooted and CWM installed.
- Straightaway rebooted to CWM, did a full wipe and installed ICS stunner 1.4.19
- Phone booted.
Now the problems:
- Can't access root. No mobile odin, no CWM.
- Can't copy files to int/ext card. Phone hangs/PC hangs.
- Am able to access the download mode though.
- Please help. In case someone from India can share his phone number with me and guide me how to come out of this.

Flashed rooted stock odex GB
Now root checkers are confirming that phone is rooted
But can't copy any file in system folder
shall i go ahead and patch the abyss kernel?
Edit:
Was able to copy files in system folder using x explorer after granting r/w rights to the system folder.
Shall I proceed ahead to patch abyss kernel.
abyss kernel patched successfully with CWM. Installed latest stunner. But cant get tablet functionality. :-(
Please help.
Never ever ever ever trust root checkers. The only way to know for sure if you really have root access is to try and paste a file into /system folder. If you can do it, you have root. If you cannot, you have no root, it's as simple as that.
This means that you never had GB root in the first place, hence you ICS root problems.

I was able to copy paste in system folder in gb after granting rw permission. Now in pics able to do the same. Anyways can someone summarize the entire steps that I should take from scratch that will bring the desired functionality. Do post the file links along. I ll really appreciate.
Hi
I have here a Galaxy Mini running stock Froyo 2.2.1 without an USB-cable.
My goal is to flash CM 9.
I rooted the phone with an update.zip containing Superuser.apk and the su binary. (I needed it for Titanium Backup)
I want to install CWM too but I can not use Odin (no USB cable). I downloaded CWM Touch 5.2.0.8 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439751, named the file update.zip and flashed it with the stock recovery tool. - This seemed to be sucessful.
But now the devie is stuck at the "Samsung" logo everytime I try to boot into recovery. Booting the normal Android works fine.
Is there a way to flash CWM without using Odin now? (probably using linux "dd")
I would like to have CWM before I flash CM9 beacuse I want to create a full backup first.
Edit: Ok...I might have overlooked that this CWM is for Gingerbread.
Thanks
flashing through stock recovery may not work
you have to use odin to flash the recovery
one more thing is that you cannot backup stock rom
you must upgrade to gb to flash cm9 (bootloader incompatibility)

A full back up of what ?
If you try to back up your current ROM app data, then restore it on cm, there'll be bugs potential.

For some time ago at rooted the my i9001 using the stock recovery to install Root-i9001-Signed.zip
After this, I installed CWM 6.012 recovery.
All was well for some time, but now I have lost root acces, and can not get it back,
by installing Root-i9001-Signed.zip with CWM.
Also CWM 6.012 and CWM 6.019 have never been able to finish a backup,
they reboot before completation.
Is it only possible to root the phone by using the stock recovery to install Root-i9001-Signed.zip?
