just curious if the Iphone charger or official Samsung host adaptor could be easily modified to work for galaxy tab charge/data.
I think you'd probably just need to swap the 30 pin connector, the USB may just be standard. Could be completely wrong of course!

So I built a USB OTG adapter by shorting the ID pin to ground on the USB connector. This makes the Note go into host mode and start providing power out so it can talk to memory sticks and mice and keyboards.
Can I somehow through hardware or a custom kernel charge the note while in Host mode?
I want to build a little custom circuit for my Note that lets me charge it while in my car cradle but still talk to various USB devices like my OBDII adapter.
Yeah, nerdier than most Q&A, I'll try the development section if I do not get an answer.

I'm modifying an HP Ipaq keyboard from its ipaq interface to micro USB for my Note. I'm planning also putting in a powerpack and tiny powered USB hub to make the power connection.
If you got a small USB hub and gutted it then would that help?

I'm not sure if it will work but I plan to find out once the ebay sourced parts arrive

Dude, there is a small (but non-zero) chance you could permanently screw up your note doing what you describe (which is why I am asking the question instead of just hooking up a power supply and seeing what happens.
Most likely, nothing bad will happen but it won't work. You'll have two voltage sources fighting each other trying to push current in opposite directions but the relative difference in voltage will make for very small currents.
Worst case is you will fry something in your USB OTG chipset by shoving current into a system designed to push current out.
Second worst case is your battery pack goes boom because the Note is pushing current in to a regulator trying to push it out (unlikely).

So... PurpleMelbourne, what happened?
He killed his Note

Bump, I am still very much interested in this. Any help appreciated.
I have a HDMI cable that works perfectly in a Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note II, so I was certain there would be no problem using it on the Galaxy Camera, but it seems to be a proprietary port which is a fraction smaller than a micro USB.
I am a bit angry about this, as it means a (probably expensive) Samsung branded cable needs to be purchased. Considering how expensive the camera is, Samsung should have at least provided one.
The other problem is finding a retailer that sells one. I can't seem to locate one as yet.

Hi there, with regards to the HDMI port on the Samsung Galaxy Camera, I believe it is using a standard micro-HDMI sized connector. These ports have been in use on Android devices for a while now so you should be able to pick one up for a reasonable price rather easily. Here is an example of a cable that should work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-HDMI-...=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item1e6125af08
Good luck in your hunt!

Thanks for the info, I guess I was so used to a phone's multi use Micro USB socket I forgot that the camera has a separate HDMI socket and that it's pretty much standard! Doh!
I shall now buy a cheap one off eBay.
Thanks again.
I bought on ebay an HDMI cable compatible with GS2 and Note, but with gCam does not work. Does anyone know tell me a compatible model, tried in person? Thanks

I know that Samsung HDMI cable are not compatible betwwen S2/Note and S3. I believe Note 2 and Galaxy Camera use same new format that S3 and it's probably why it doesn't work for you. but not 100% Sure.

Samsung uses 3 different types of connectors in their devices.
there's the regular mhl connector used in the note 1 and S2 which I think is a 6pin connector.
The note 2 and S3 use a Samsung mhl connector which has 11 pins and also allows you to use usb for sync/data transfer while outputting video.
and there's the regular old standard micro sized HDMI port which is used in the galaxy camera.
It's a tiny little port next to the battery, which requires a $0.50 adapter plug to get a full sized HDMI cable plugged in, or you can just use a cable with HDMI micro on one end and full sized HDMI on the other.

today i tried again with another TV and suddenly it wasn't work! it only charge my device and even the message "HDMI connected" didn't appear
what should i do? is there any certain setting?
1. Buy one made by Samsung.
2. Return the cheap Chinese one you have.

i don't know if it's fake or not because i got it pretty cheap, around 18$

Are you sure its 11pin not 5pin?
When that happens with my Note 1, I power cycle it and its adapter starts working again.
How can you tell if is 11 pin?
My old mhl still works on note one, htc sensation and skyrocket doesn't work on note2

Look at the MHL micro usb connector. You will see a 2 step connector. 6 pins on the lower step, 5 pins on the inside step. You can also look at the Note 2 micro usb plug and you can see the 2 step connector pins.
Lol it was fake

Did you get a Samsung one?

Is your Samsung MHL adapter like this...
Mine cuts in and out (both video and audio), and wiggling the entire set of attachments seems to bring it back. I've replaced the hdmi cable and power adapter / cable to no avail. Also, the power plug into on the MHL adapter seems very loose at the pin connection. But even with the charge indicator on, the video/audio signal cuts in and out randomly.
Will I need a powered Y cable to use a usb keyboard in OTG mode with CM10 on the original Galaxy Tab 7 ?
Are there any particular usb keyboards that are power thrifty enough to work without extra power?
Thanks for any ideas!
No. You only need the otg cable to connect any usb device. The keyboard is powered by your Galaxy Tab. I ordered one myself on ebay but I don't like it, I'm always afraid to damage the otg connection of my gt2. I ordered a bluetooth keyboard instead, completly wireless. The otg cable is only 2 dollars on ebay.

Thanks for the reply theriado but the original Galaxy Tab does not supply full power to the usb port like the Tab 2 does.
In fact the otg drivers were never official unlike the GT2 someone hacked them together.
In any case I will find out maybe this weekend if my cable ever arrives.
I was hoping there was also a hack to turn on otg without an adapter like some devices can do but no-one has ever replied about that one either.
Hi team,
I just bought an HDMI cable to connect by phone to the TV. The problem is that the cable just wont fit in to Note1. However, it works perfectly fine with Note 2.
I can use the same charger to charge my Note 1 and Note 2. But the HDMI cable port just wont fit inside Note 1 as if its not meant for it. I tried to push it but it refuses to connect.
AFAIK, HDMI cables are universal and can be used on any phones which supports this feature. I may be wrong.
Any ideas what is causing this issue?

Don't know how it looks on Note 2, but all Note 1 has is USB port into which fits only USB.
Sending screen to other devices is done with MHL converter, which has USB plug which goes to Note, USB port for external power and HDMI port for connecting to TV. I'm sure more info can be found in accessories forum.
PS. I have a vague feeling that questions should generally be posted in Q&A forum...

The man is bang on, there's no hdmi port on any phone AFAIK... Mhl ports vary pins on generation of phone, so the note2 matches the s3 and I think the s2 matches the note, but it usually states on the product page which models they fit.

Hi there, It looks like a Y shaped cable. One end goes into the phone (charger port) and on the other side, there are 2 wires (ports), one goes into the HDMI port on the TV and the other goes into the USB port on the TV. The USB port does the job of charging the phone simultaneously while the HDMI does the job of extending the screen from phone to TV. There is no MHL adapter. The cable does all the job.
On the package, it says for Galaxy S3 so I guess it will work only with S3 and Note 2. I need to buy one more which is compatible with S2 and Note1.
My only question is that since the charging port on Note1 and Note2 is similar, how come there is still a compatibility issue with Note1? I was under the impression that the cable/port would be standard for these Samsung android phones and if it fits into Note2, then why note on Note1?
That's called an mhl adapter. The port in the phone is micro usb, so the signal is converted to hdmi.
