I've had the galaxy note for a while now, tried many roms and so on. But I just cannot get the speed out of my note like my sister's stock GB S II. Her phone is SO fast and snappy it's mindblowing. My note feels super slugish compared to her phone and she hasn't even done any mods! What can I do to speed my phone up? I've tried touchwiz and non touchwiz roms they just all seem to lag. I have never tried any gingerbread roms though. Is there a CM7 rom for the note?
If you refer sluggish as in the screen transitions, that is probably because the GPU has to push out a whole lot more pixels (640000 to be precise), both phones use the same GPU, this also applies to desktop computers, laptops and whatever uses a graphics card. for example you can play lets say Diablo 3 at FULL settings in 720P, now if you change the resolution to 1080P and keep FULL settings you will see the game stuttering and frame skipping and what not.
My advise would be try changing the screen density, but I doubt that'll help since the Mali GPU still has to push out more pixels than on the GS2

Yea I figured it was a GPU issue. Anyway to overclock the GPU?
Also, anyway to switch to 24 bit or 16bit colors?

hello all
i have a standard xvid clip (640x272) that can only play @ 20.8fps on core player(stock rom) (with itje 10.1 ROM i get 21.3fps)
the same clip plays @ 23.8fps on the touch HD and 24.3 diamond 2(stock ROMs)
i tried so many other clips as benchmarks and its evident that the x1 is constantly %18-%20 slower than other HTC devices with identical specs (cpu and resolution)
can anyone explain this phenomena? i sure hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel
What do you have installed on it? Perhaps some background processes, like panelmanager?
come to think of it, its not just the video that is constantly slower on the x1. its the whole ROM in general (navigating between various wm programs, switching between applications....etc) is clearly much slower on the xperia even though it has the same CPU speeds (just look at an video review of the tp2 or td2 in youtube and you can clearly see how they are much faster)
even the fastest x1 cooked roms are noticeably slower than the HD,td2 and tp2 stock roms
hope SE can do something about that and i hope and i hope our chefs can eventually close the performance gap.

its actully a fresh flash (itje 10.1) with only core player installed now not even emails or contacts are added yet
do you get better performance on reasonably good quality XVID dvdrips (close to 640x272 resolutions)
What coreplayer version did you use to test? I can try installing the same and see what I get. Also, what settings?
Same problem here, videos always cease in the first seconds.
By the way, which coreplayer version is the best to use for xperia?
im not facing a bug like F-Styla as it does not suffer from the stuter i just have constant low performance compared to HD and td2
i just benchmarked the video on an ancient HTC macian and i got 39fps!!!!!!! (on qvga resolution though)
using full version of coreplayer 1.3.2

Since I discovered this great app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467590) never had a problem viewing any video. Great resolution, small size of files, no lags.
However, I heard somewhere that coreplayer can't use hw acceleration on X1. Do not know if that's true also for HTC, but that could explain the performance differences

reencoding videos is not really a solution if you ask me
-my understanding that full qtv support is coming with ver2.0
my problem is that why the heck is the x1 so much slower (in everything)than identically specd devices like the HD. is there an easy way to varify that we are runiing at the FULL 528mhz and overclock in case we are not

Somewhere here in this forum I read that actually the X1 is NOT running at full speed. I know, I have not been really precise... but with a little bit of search you can find out the thread I am talking about.
I think all HTC devices except the original XDA have video sync/playback issues. There are tons of threads on this. Get yourself a PMP to enjoy quality videos.
X1 runs at 400 mhz currently, although the processor is in fact 528 mhz. The downgrade is made in order to save power and lower heat levels. You can check the current speed by installing an app like HomeScreen++.
I would like to see what the X1 can do with the full 528 mhz, but I haven't seen any solution for it so far.
I enjoy perfect quality after I downloaded the app from the front page.

i got a program that can change clockspeed .. up to 528 , with nice settings like , lower it down @ backlight off , lower it down @ power button
it can still play mp3 at only 62mhz badass phone lol

I experienced the same slowness using Coreplayer, I am using v1.2.5.
After I put a non Touch-flo on the SEX1 I did not have a slow Coreplayer anymore, so I would suggest try a different ROM and see if the problem is still there.
I am using gtrabs wm6.5 rom and I have no problem playing video on Coreplayer without reencoding the video.

its says im already @528 (not 400mhz). i changed everything to 528mhz on all settings but that did not help in fact for some dumb reason in getting even less performance now @19.18 fps
-installed home screen ++ but im not sure where the settings is to show current speed (will look more after i reflash)
-turned off touchflo3d also didnt help
-this 400MHZ thing seems like a major problem with the X1, are you sure its true? i would imagine a lot of noise and complaints if it were true ?
-will go and flash into a beare bones rom now to see if it helps

Thanks! That works to make it feel quite a bit snappier (I know its not scientific, but haven't benchmarked anything)
I am also having a video problem, rather than make new thread I post it here.
Well, not a single HD video plays on my Xperia now, Coreplayer tries to but its so choppy and insane which I now know doesn't use hardware acceleration.
Now after converting the video with Touch HD video converter software, WMP says "The source filter for this file could not be loaded."
I also found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365381
But still nothing at all.
Any solutions? Must I change ROMs to play HD videos?
weird I don't have any problem with video performance, I'm using coreplayer and they just flies!!!!!!!

can you make sure of the resolution of the file. also did you use the benchmarking tool in core player

I had a similar issue when I messed up my video drivers with something I installed. The only solution was a hard reset.
hi, i just changed my galaxy s2 for this lg p990 because i needed some money. i love this phone but current software lacks of full hardware control. for instance on sgs 2 tegrak apps and kernels provide a full customization in frequency and voltages (cpu and gpu). if you can find a lucky phone like mine was you can undervolt gpu from 1,1 to 0,75 volt at full frequency with a great battery life improvement. i love small but powerful apps like
-voodoo control
-tegrak apps
-chainfire 3d
and i paid for all of them! so i will buy also a nice app to control gpu and avp of my tegra 2 lg p990! i don t care about need of reboot or aomething, i will just watch my full hp movies on hdmi without lag or frame skip!
Hello!
What you want is available - to a certain extent.
To UV you need a OC/UV kernel to do this and you could use either one of kernels like i.e. spica(Horse Power kernel for stock rom), dr4go(fps kernel for stock), SetiroN(ironknL for CM7) or vodonka (KANG kernel for CM7).
Then use i.e. Pimp my CPU to customise under-volt over-clock...whatever...
But if it is possible to undervolt GPU independently in Tegra 2 chips - I don't know. You could ask any of the kernel devs above!?!?
Chainfire 3D is available - if you bought it just install it - it gives some performance but MSAA customisation isn't supported by the Tegra 2 - if you are looking for this...
Voodoo sound control is available and still under development - right know their are only some basic features - but it works and brings some dynamic range improvement. IMHO it is a noticeable improvement.
BTW: Watching video with full HD up to 1080p is possible out of the box - no need to OC or to OC GPU for that.
hi, thank you for your answer! i flashed cm7 and now i don't cry anymore for my ex sgs2, but a friend of mine gave me an hd file for test and it was 1080p with low bit rate ( 2,5gb for 2 hour lenght) but impossible to watch properly on my hd tv. and i was very disappointed when the encoding speed was almost the same switching beetween hw and sw decode ( on mx player). i don t think tegra 2 sucks as it seems. i manage clock speeds on my mobile with pimpmycpu but it is not very reliable and still don t have any control on gpu and avp clock. so what i think that really lacks on p990 sw
environment is a gpu/avp control. i home cm9 will bring any improvement on this side

The last thing i heard was that CM7 and HMDI 1080p and 720p playback didn't work 100%. on stock, that should work..
yes, it played well on stock gingerbread....not like sgs2 but something lile. dual boot on lg dual (italian name of lg 2x) could be a good idea also
Hello!
The Question is if the used codec that was used for encoding the video is supported by the hardware.
BTW: I use moboplayer, but my TV only supports 720p with this phone (don't know why - while it supports 1080p with my laptop) and I used 720p sources from OnlineTVRecorder.com for testing - this works without glitches...
Hi guys,
I have a Nook HD+ running 4.3 stable. I've downloaded the Flappy Bird game (latest version) and it runs slow as hell. I compare it to my iphone 4 and my friend's galaxy tab 3. Both of them run very smoothly. Is there something wrong with the game or the Nook? Is it the GPU or the screen resolution?. I used to have the same problem with Candy Crush, but when I unchecked the Disable HW overlays in Developer options. It's much better. But it isn't the same in Flappy Bird. Do you guys have a solution for this? Thank you very much!
Possibly over simplification of game's graphic settings. Games should scale for various gpu's but if the user has no way to do so some devices will have bad fps.
Sometimes as in the case of hw overlays the few android options work but otherwise the chance should be greater that it needs to be fixed by the developer.
Some games allow setting tweaking in a roundabout way and sometimes there are apps that make it easier.
Not to mention any other problems....
Weird.
The HD+, despite it's processor struggling to power its REALLY REALLY high res screen, is still really strong. So it's strange that the device can't play Flappy Bird. I'd understand if you tried High graphics on Asphalt 8, but.
Maybe try verygreen's EMMC CM11?
As Game Tuner has been discontinued I can no longer get some games to run at higher resolutions. They made an excuse of an integration into Game Launcher which now only lets you limit the frame rate and "lower" resolution without any specifics. It's hard without direct comparison but I suspect some games are being rendered at 1080p even when the screen is set to WQHD+. For example Real Racing 3 has this issue most phones I've owned, where the graphics are rendered at <720p on 1080p phones. On Oreo for Note 9 I could get around this using Game Tuner, and if I have performance issues I could also overclock the phone. Usually games still have sloppy antialiasing but I still prefer them running at full resolution. After the Pie update Real Racing 3 really looks awful since I have no control over its resolution. The third-party RR3 graphics app only helps with rendering quality, not resolution, and back on Oreo, it actually looked better at medium settings since there was less aliasing.
Also, on Oreo you could force a 16:9 game to run at full resolution in the navbar options, is there any way to do this in Pie? I can't find it in the game tool settings. Even though some apps don't have proper optimization, many of these still work fine if you forced fullscreen on Pie (for example Horizon Chase and Smash Hit).
Are there any alternatives for changing resolution/hardware performance on Pie?

The huge improvement to Bluetooth latency in gaming is well worth the update. There's almost no latency with most headphones now. I don't know what took Samsung and Android so long since my ASUS Windows 10 laptop doesn't have this problem.

The full screen option is moved to the "settings - display", search it there... I liked it more in the game tools, but atleast they kept that. For the other part of your post - I agree, a lot of missing features this updates, my biggest pain is the multiwindow that was literally toned down to the google default implementation and it's super basic and bad... then there are a tons of bugs or clearly rushed features and that's sad given how much months that update was in development.
Does not work for me with TSTO The Simpsons Tapped Out. Since Pie and without Game Tuner no possibility to launch it in WQHD+.
System settings are ignored.
I Found A Solution To Fix, But It Will Work Only Once. Set The Resolution To HD+, Then Launch A Game, Then Go To High Performance, Set The Resolution To WQHD+, And I Hope It Worked For You. Note: That Will Work Only ONCE!!!
You can use WQHD+ resolution in games by disabling Game Optimizing Service, Game Launcher, Game Tools.
You can search the way on web with 'how to disable galaxy bloatware'.
And yes, device settings - display - full screen apps is 16:9 <=>21:9 setting.
So I just updated my Note9 to latest Pie about a week ago. I like a lot of things, but found a couple really annoying problems. First is that when connected to Bluetooth in my car, when using YouTube Music app, 8 out of every 10 times the song finishes and starts the next track...I get no audio. I have to play/pause or hit next/previous to get audio back. But that's a different issue than this thread...
Second issue I just found is that Game Tuner is now gone. I used Game Tuner before to force some games to use full resolution for a much sharper visual experience. I primarily play Clash Royale and noticed that my game was looking a little blurry again
I found the settings within Game Launcher, but they aren't as good...and don't give you as much control over resolution. Everything is set to highest performance, but I can easily tell that the resolution isn't full as some of the graphics/text in the game are not nearly as sharp as before.
Any way to fix this??? Super annoying... The game doesn't require that much battery as-is and it's annoying that I can't make use of the awesome screen resolution.
The only way is by disabling Game Optimizing Service by using 'Package Disabler Pro ( Owner APP) All Android' in Play store.
Disable it and reboot.
Then all games are now just apps, you can't use Game Launcher/Game Tools. You may disable them too.
But the apps (once games) are now show in full resolution.

And that's the only way to do it at this point? Seems so dumb...
What other negative implications does this have, if any? The obvious one I can think of is that any options for battery savings are not available any longer (which I normally don't really care about anyways).
And I assume this process is reversible, so you can just re-enabling the Game Optimizing service and rebooting to get back to original state again??

The update doesn't seem to change anything... There is an option for disabling/enabling the low resolution. But I get the slightly blurry output regardless of what I set that switch to.
To be fair, when I say it's blurry...it's actually fairly subtle. A couple of my less picky friends couldn't even tell the difference at first...but after looking side by side with a phone running native resolution, they could tell.
I'm picky about visuals/screens, so it bugs the crap out of me. If I have a great screen with high resolution, I'd like everything to look as good as possible. The slightly soft graphics are super annoying to me.
Not happy about this. I haven't tried the previously suggested option for Package Disabler because it seems like a slightly more involved process than I was inticipating...

Do you know of a package disabler for the snapdragon note 9 running pie, stock phone not rooted? Seems like no matter which ones I try they no longer function since Oreo went to pie. If you know of one could you share the play store link as I could use it big time. Much thanks in advance.
