hi ,
I am totally new all this , and i am trying to root my phone and i am stuck.
I searched some tutorials and following the instructions.
Its written that i need to open odlin and them go to download mode and root
But odlin is a aplication and download mode is something you do when phone is off ?
How will i open odlin when phone will be switched off ?
and when i open odlin i get error that you need to have super user.
I installed super user but i don't know how to load app in it ? it says no app in list....
and how do i use that jv6 flash file ?....i am confused.. Please help.
these are 2 guide i was following
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966 - its written that you go in download mode and open odlin , how is this possible ? when phone is off and you can open any app ?
bump.....still need this help
Im guessing this is the first time flashing/rooting. Take your time coz what your playing with can mess up your phone.
Firstly, to put your phone in download mode. Do this by:
-First switching your phone off
-Now hold down these buttons at the same time: Power button + Home button + volume down button
-Hold them all down till you see the yellow triangle icon
-Once u see that, your in download mode
Now its important to follow the steps given in the guide about using Odin
nvm its rooted now , i found out that odin is a windows app not android.
Thanks stil..

Some later phones dont have the 3 button mode automatically enabled. It sounds like its stuck in a boot loop. Try pulling the battery and see if that works. If not connect it to your desktop and see if the computer detects it. If it does you might get out the woods yet.
If it does go to this page and download the applicaton.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...t-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-with-a-single-click/
Run the app and select root for 2.1. Hopefully it will reboot into Recovery mode. From there you should be able to apply the update.zip and reboot.
Good luck

I have an SGS with
BB:
I9OOOXXJPP
Kernal
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build
Froyo.XXJPO
I am trying to install darkys rom V7 which looks pretty promising.
I have found out I need to install a kernal which has 2e recovery to which I found out I need to use the 3 button download mode?
I have tried every combination of button presses to get this working and nothing works
How do I enable the download mode? I Cannot find any answers in any posts just questions and more confusing jargon with no real explanations
any help would be appreciated

Some SGS sets have their 3-button recovery / downlaod modes DISABLED by the manufacturer. IMO the carriers ask the manufacturer to do so for them because carriers don't want us to install / flash new ROMs.
You need to modify the secondry bootloader of your SGS, if you want to permanently enable your 3-button recovery / downlaod mode.
To change the secondry bootloader of your phone, you need to put your phone into download mode, use Odin to flash the modified bootloader and you are done.
You will wonder how to put your phone into download mode when your 3-button recovery is not working !!
The solution to this problem is by using ADB (Android Debug Bridge). It is a piece of software which communicates with your phone at low level and can force the phone to boot in Download mode.
Well this is the overview what you need to do. For a step by step guide, you can search here or pm me. I can send you links on how to do it.
I have tried every combination of button presses to get this working and nothing works
Hold down Home button that's the middle button + Hold down volume down button that's the bottom end not top .With these buttons held down press and hold the power on button until the Samsung logo appears .
Release Home Volume then Power button .
If you do not now get the yellow download mode icon you do not have download recovery .

thanks i'll have a go at it
Hi,
I bought galaxy ace a week ago... updated via the latest gingerbread 2.3.6. (official way). After few days of testing the phone I found out that it is quite slow therefore I decided to root it... there is the problem, I cannot enter to recovery menu (home + power), even to download menu (home + vol down + power), everytime I hold the above mentioned combination I got soft reset of the phone... no menu, no nothing. I could not find anything on the web.. Could you help me how to enter to recovery menu OR how to root to CM7.2. a CWM without entering to recovery menu.
I believe the recovery menu has been blocked with new gingerbread 2.3.6.
Thank you.
I don't think so (about the blocked recovery) ..u go on trying dude ..recovery mode is a bit tougher to get in stock rom ..u should get it on the 10th attempt ( at least) I believe ..btw there are rooting guides in this forum ...check them out
Proud to own an ANDROID
Prouder to be a part of XDA
does it mean that i should hold power + home for 10 soft restarts?
I think so here's a tip press the home button first ..keep it pressed and then press the power button UNTILL THE SCREEN COMES ON...recovery mode is tougher to get in stock rom(well at least for me )..in cm7 its nothing ..

I tried to soft restart 10 times no luck... even with your tip...can anyone else help me please?
only odin can help you as if you are not able to get into any kind of recovery and want cwm then odin is the only path for you .. do backup contacts, sms if you want
all other things will be lost..
and if you don't want to loose things then choose to skip rooting and love what you have now
and 2.3.6 haven't blocked recovery btw as i am using it
I cant use ODIN as I cannot access to download menu (vol down + home + power). Anyone else who can me advice?
turn your phone off!
Now without pressing the power button!
Hold the center button and plug your charger!
Still does not work, any other solution?
Try this if you have root access then install ROM toolbox from the market and try going into recovery via the app

Dude read the post properly I guess he's on stock rom and the only way of rooting gingerbread is the update.zip method ( correct me if I'm wrong ) ..so there's no way he could have root access ...

HE CANNOT ENTER RECOVERY MODE!
If you bought that way you should take it back show problem and let service take care of that!
Say that you were trying to do a factory reset when you found out that you coudn´t enter recovery mode!
I'm on stock ROM, just flashed this morning using ODIN. Even root will go then. To go into recovery press the home+power button till the phone turns on, leave the power button not the home button. You should land up in recovery. If that doesn't work then try using ADB. Go to adb with your phone normally on:
adb reboot recovery
but try flash recovery again
to enter fastboot:
adb reboot bootloader
And if You've worked with ODIN then download a new bootloader and flash it using ODIN.I think (not sure) the problem is with secondary bootloader (SBL).Put the phone into download mode using ADB:
adb reboot download
This will put your phone in download mode. Check Odin now, and if ID:COM has turned yellow, you’re good to gnce you’re satisfied, press the Start button on Odin. The flash will take couple of seconds, after which your phone will reboot automatically.
That’s it. This should fix your download and recovery mode 3-button combo issue. You can now apply any mods with the normal procedure.

You had mentioned updating to 2.3.6 in the official way? Kies or Service center? If Kies then did you get the download mode when it was updating? And No, Recovery is not blocked on 2.3.6

If even adb isn't working
I would take it in to the service center and tell them you can't access (stock)recovery

I had the same problem, but luckily I found this thread.
I can enter to recovery ONLY with adb reboot recovery command, pressing home button does nothing.
Hello everyone,
I've been using this community for a while, but this is my first post. One or two months ago I successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 and installed Imaginary ICS Final along with CWM Recovery 5.0.2.6. Everything worked fine but today I decided to update to a 4.4 custom rom. I installed CM 11 from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2659269, but after selecting my language a popup apeared which said "The setup aplication has stopped working", so I looked for another ROM. I found this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2684893, but it required TWRP Recovery to be installed. I downloaded it, copied it to my SD and tried to install it form CWM 5.0.2.6.
Now, my phone goes into a blue screen whether I try to boot normally or into the recovery menu and I don't now how to solve it. Since I can boot into download mode, I've tried using Odin, but it doesn't recognize my phone. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks a lot in advance.
PS: I'm using Windows 8.1 x64.
EDIT: Now Odin recognizes it, but it gets stuck in "<1> setup connection...".
EDIT 2: I've solved it flashing through Odin with a PC running a clean installation of Windows 7.

You usually get the "setup connection" error when you are in the Emergency Download Mode instead of Download Mode. You go to Emergency Download Mode by holding down Volume Up + Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button in which it loads a screen that says "Emergency Download Mode" and you go to Download mode by holding down Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button in which it does load the correct download screen with the yellowish message that say "Downloading…". Please make sure you are going to the Download Mode. Then try to flash again. Do post the result. Hope I Helped
Phone should detect in odin if you've Installed proper drivers for your phone.

You're right, I was entering Emergency Download Mode (the one which says ARM9 mode). However, if I enter the normal download mode and plug my phone, Odin doesn't recognize it and Windows shows a message in the traybar which says "Can't recognize USB device".
