I was trying to update to AOKP on my Captivate. I was running GB 2.3.5. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I installed ClockWorkMod Recovery, then I added the zip file to the SD. Rebooted into recovery, and then tried "install zip from sdcard". It said that it was installed. I backed out and then tried to turn on the phone. Now I'm stuck at the AT&T logo. I finally turned the phone off after 2 hours of that. I can still get to the recovery menu, and still install zip from the sd, but I'm still stuck at the logo.
I've tried Odin, but it hangs at file analysis. Did I mention, I didn't back up anything? Only thing important to me is contacts, and they're backed up through Google.
Any ideas on how I can fix this. Point me to right thread if this is already covered.
Reboot into cwm recovery, Wipe Data/ Factory Reset, then install rom. If it boots afterwards to another cwm recovery, don't reboot the phone, just reinstall the rom from there and u should be good to go.

Still stuck at the at&t logo. According to CWM Recovery, SlimICS was installed. I'm really at a loss. Any other ideas?
Flash a stock, one-click, no bootloader, odin or heimdall package, and try again.
I was able to load stock ICS 4.0.3 Phone booted like normal. I was starting to freak out. Thanks for the help.

First of all I hope this is in the right place: I did do a search but still couldn't find any help.
Here's my problem:
After getting a (delicious) taste for customisation after rooting and lagfixing, I decided to give custom ROMs a go. Hours of indecision passed and ultimately I settled on Doc and Stefunel's magical ROM. Due to currently being on 2.1, I chose to follow the set of instructions provided on the page for doing so.
All was well up until the very final step. When rebooting the phone through ClockworkMod Recovery, instead passing the Samsung boot screen into the Android system, the phone boots into CWM recovery. I've tried doing another factory reset, and reinstalling the ROM to no avail. I've also tried mounting "/mnt/sdcard" in order to place another ROM to flash from, but I keep getting a message telling me to insert a disk (what happens when you don't mount).
That's pretty much all there is to it. I'd be massively grateful for any help!

If you have made a backup of your apps then flash the JPY with Odin and then make factory reset in recovery mode. Then root with CF Root 1.3 (Or something like that) and flash CWM Recovery. That's what I would do.

from the recovery menu try wipe cache and dalvik, and reboot
I rooted my phone using the SuperOneClickMethod and then installed ROM Manager and flashed clockwork mod recovery onto my phone. After this i tried to backup and install a new rom onto my phone and when i would do that it woudlnt allow me to backup and it wouldnt let the rom install. it would just bring me to a recovery screen and i would have to reboot my phone. i tried unrooting, formatting the SD card, doing a system wipe and then trying it all over again and now when i try to boot into recovery it just shows a trangle with a cell phone laying down next to it. it doesnt let me do anything i have to pull my battery to reboot it and then it goes back to normal. What do i do to fix this?
PS: my Volume Up is broken so i cant even attempt to boot into stock recovery.
If you can't enter on recovery.
I think you will need to install the original ROM, just using RSD lite.
Or search for froyo version if don't need base.
I have CWM 4.00.15 installed and I tried to install Ryyu's Rom (Wipe) by putting it on the SD card and rebooting into recovery, then selecting the zip file and hitting apply. When the installation tried to update my kernel, it just froze and rebooted. I was then stuck on a boot loop between the Galaxy S screen and the CyanogenMod boot screen. I know that Ryyu's did not install correctly because the CyanogenMod boot screen was still there. I had to use 3 button recovery and erase cache, davlik cache and user data before trying to install AOSP Essence, but same problem happened. Installation dies and phone keeps rebooting in loops. Finally, gave up and went back to CyanogenMod Nightly and it worked.
Why can't I seem to install any other ROMs besides Cyanogen? I know I am doing something wrong, but not sure what. Any advice/help appreciated. Thanks.
Have you tried starting from a clean install?
Try starting with a stock rom and then to activate Cwm flash a modded Kernel.

Hi,
this is what I initially did to get Cyanogen on:
1. Used Superoneclick root to root phone
2. Check that 3 button recovery and download mode works. Recovery version was 3e, so installed superlagfix from android market. This automatically installed ClockworkMod Recovery as well.
3. Use CWM and flashed recovery for Samsung Galaxy S i9000
4. Reboot into recovery and select the CyanogenMod zip file and click apply to install.
To install subsequent ROMs, I just put the zip file on my SD card, reboot into recovery and repeat step 4 above, after clearing cache and user data. It is after that I get stuck on boot loops.
I did do a Nandroid backup before my initial Cyanogen install so I can go back and restore it, but it would be Froyo.
when coming from CM / MIUI - Samsung based ROM
you MUST flash a 3 file firmware with pit and re-partition.
Cyanogen and MIUI use different partitions than samsung ROMs so this is why you are having issues.
Ok, just managed to flash Darky's EE 10.2 using Odin. Not sure if Odin is the ideal way, but it worked. Really enjoying Darky's. Thanks folks!
Hi,
i have GT-N7000 with RocketRom v1 and CWM 5.? recovery.
Today i installed ROM manager and clicked on flash CWM recovery (at the time i did not know i shouldnt do that). Phone worked ok. I tried to make phone image/backup but it failed twice.
Phone rebooted but did not go to recovery and i didn't get any new files. So i went to recovery and made backup from there. I rebooted and i had this image files. Then i wiped data and tried to install back this backup. All went fine except somewhere in the midle phone rebooted by itself. Since then phone only boots to the "logo screen". I left it like that for 30minutes and it was still the same. I can go to recovery and download mode but i can not flash rom from recovery. I tried and it starts instaling rom but after few minutes of inactiveity phone reboots. I flashed recovery via ODIN and it is still the same. I also tried to install stock rom but i get error that phone can not read from /sdcard/ROM.
I realy need your help because this is company phone and they will kill me :/
I just tried to install AlianceROM and it started it installed and all it allso sayed that install was sucsessful but still nothing. When i start phone i see Samsung Galaxy logo and nothing more.
use PC odin... put the phone in download mode and install a stock GB rom.. if successfull .. before it boots .. reboot into recovery and do a wipe data factory reset, wipe cache, and wip dalvik.. then reboot

So the phone tunred black screen when 1 day i was trying to turn off the wifi( if i remember correctly),
and then i started it again using power button, after showing the logo and boot animation, sunddenly it(sometimes during the boot animation) turned black screen and dead.
I got to recovery successfully and installed again the last custom rom(paranoid rom 3.x) and gapps i installed couple of days ago, and then reboot , same thing happened, couldnt get past the boot animation,, done factory rest, wipe everything and installed the last rom and gapps, same thing. (it's the only rom i had on my internal /sdcard which in the recovery i can browse through with no problem)
i tried to push another rom to /sdcard/ using adb, i can see my device under "adb devices" fine but it gave me "unauthorized devices" error.
then i downloaded the latest stock rom(4.1.2) and flashed using odin, flash completed successfully but still again same thing happens, cant get past the samsung boot animation.
----
after flashing the stock rom, now i cant even get into recovery,... and it seems there's no flashable recovery tar file for n7000.,...
any ideas?
thanks in advance

thanks for the reply!
i flashed the recovery using odin, but still cant get into it
then i accidently found that i can get into recovery mode when usb plugged in,,, but if i try to flash in that recovery mode, it will fail and end in black screen..
guess im completely fked and maybe it's due to some weird, hard-to-replace, unexpected, hardware problem,,,
In the Philz CWM recovery, are you able to format data and cache partitions?
