How to port desire roms? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says how hard is it to port a rom from desire to our n1? I want to start experimenting can anyone point me to some guides?
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium

It's pretty easy
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224311
So...
for example:
-you wanna port an hybrid rom (2.1 + 3.0 )
you can/should/must download the madflapjack ROM for base and your target rom ( to repack all files and folders, i prefer use 7zip)
-if you wanna port a sense 2.1 download cool sense by Race55
- If you wanna port a sense 3.0 / 3.5 rom (i've never tried) i think it's the same tip
i you want to have a look to the result, you can try my rom Reflex rom
in the last page i've ported Revolution 4.0 ROM from desire
very fast
You should print the page, like that you can tick all you did
It's veryyy easy to port a rom indeed

Just curious how much this would differ from a cm7/9 rom?
Can't wait to give this a go thanks! =)
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium

fast as a cm7 with Hardware acceleration
I love sense rom, it's fast; beautiful; not too much bug (some freeze)
Which rom will you port ?

Thanks for the link xeloni.
Sounds very easy. I will give this a go, too.

From desire to nexus on you will have to just pay attention to the syatempartition size, they have exactly the same hardware and need the same drivers.

Why there are no Custom Roms?

Can anyone answer the question?? No Cyangogenmod, Villain and all the other cool custom Roms.. What is the Reason/Problem..?
Sent from my GT-I9000 (XXJPK) using XDA App
Actually there are a couple of them in the Dev area based on the beta versions of Froyo.
For the most part I think everyone is waiting for the final Froyo to be released before investing the time in a beta rom.
my 2 cents
But this all not really Roms.. They are themed an they removing/install Apps on the Stock Rom..?! :/
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
what do you consider a Custom ROM?
there are many skinned Custom ROMs if you check inside the Development area
They are working on Cyanogenmod (starting with Vibrant first though)
I mean with a Custom Rom a full themed flashabel Rom.. Like Cyangogenmod, Villain..!
Like at the HTC Phones..
But thanks for the Information with the Cyngogenmod
And another Question..
How to Install another Bootanimation?
Thanks for the Answers ;D
No working BootAnimation for i9000 till now.
Why there are no Bootanimations? Anyone know?
the OS has been hacked by samsung, and the files works slightly differently
and no one has bothered to figure out how to make it work on the SGS yet, that's why
it's in the low priority list

[Q] HD2/Desire ROM on Nexus One

Hey Guys,
This may sound like a dump question, please bear with me i'm pretty new to this
Is it possible to flash an HTC HD2 ROM on the nexus one ?
If i'm flashing with Desire ROM, is the Sense UI same as in HD2?
thanks in advance
1. No.
2. No.
3. Learn to use your phone, then flash one of the ported Desire ROMs if you want Sense UI for some reason.
Thanks for the reply Jack. Can you please suggest a stable desire ROm for nexus one?
It's not good to suggest something that one has no first-hand experience with, and I didn't ever test Desire ROM ports for Nexus, I don't like Sense UI.
If you go to Development section and look there for ROMs, I believe you'll find Desire ROMs there. Here's one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730290

[Q] Android 2.3 with Sense 2.1 from Wilfire S to be ported to Legend?

Is there a way to make Wilfire S ROM work on Legend? It would be great!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974481
There is already a thread about this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11785892#post11785892
However, that originally referred to porting the Desire HD ROM rather than the Wildfire S ROM.
I know but Wildfire S is almost the same as Legend (same processor and mainly resolution for the new sense port)

He he, I don't really get it either. Gingerbread isn't all that different tbh
But new Sense is
...more SENSational? Well, IMHO it's a gimmick. Nothing more.
Lemme see if it's got Serbian cyrillic translations
EDIT: Well, it doesn't. It's got latin ones tho but those I already managed to port from Desire HD
i am not expecting a cup of coffee in the morning.but new wildfire s rom gives us gingerbread daily
I like the new ways of customization in the new sense!

Isn't the software number from the leaked wildfire s rom 0.91 or something? In my opinion it seems that this one isn't the finished and to be released one, so it's probably too soon for a port

It's never too soon for a port..
Remember.. We made Froyo Sense WWE before it was released from HTC

This ROM is leaked HTC Confidential and isn't finished yet... Can't wait the final one!
Android version: 2.3.2
HTC Sense version: 2.1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.10
Working:
- Calls
- 3D
- 3G data
- Camera
- GPS
- Vibration
- Headphones
Not Working:
- SD card
- WiFi
- FM Radio
- G-Sensor
I think some of the not working hardware can be fixed very easy, but this ROM isn't final, so it will be waste of time.
P.S.> The new Fastboot works perfect!
P.S.2> No screen-off animation like CM7...

And I think I got a method to make wifi works, but I didnt manage to make my rom boots.
G-Sensor : /system/lib/hw/sensors.legend.so
Could you mind uploading ur rom and I may check it out?
@ogo2: SD card and sensors are working just fine. Wi-Fi tho isn't working coz WS isn't using TI but BCM chip. BT also doesn't work...
Download link?
Download link for what? For my Legend? My Legend can't be downloaded coz it is in physical form.
Damn! xD
Lets try again, download link for the rom you used?

Recomended Rom+Radio

Hi,
I am a new owner of a Nexus One, and I would like to install a new rom in it. Which one do you recomend?
Thnaks.
As enomther is gone (havn't read all the posts lately on his thread) I'm on cyanogen 7 RC4 currently (since 2 days) and I'm really pleased for now. Nothing that bad happened and I got most of the features I liked from enomthers rom. I'm not sure if it's right but it seems to me that cyanogen is currently the way to go (at least for me).
Maybe this thread isn't located right here, has nothing development related, general would be much better I think.
try this one http://www.evervolv.com/
great rom, fast, stable, works great for a day use without wonk
you can flash with it darktremor beta 4 and a new kernel from inetersecraven
Reading is your friend. And as far as time go try them till you find one you like. Simple.
Also wrong section. Should be in general. This has nothing to do with development.
If you want sense than use MODACOS Desire_port... of you want gingerbread use cyanogen rc 4! Very stable and fast!

Use MM HTC Desire HD v1.7 ROM, it is by far the smoothest ROM and the best UI using HTC Sense. The ROM can be further modded and tweaked to maximize your Nexus One.

The thread of MM is VERY confusing! Which is the neweset version, the 1.7 final or the 2.14? Is it based on desire or desireHD? Is it possible to get the stock look of htc sense? Is that ROM smoother than MoDaCos original desire port?
Stock ?
No-one prepared to stick up for stock Gingerbread ?
I am, was on custom ROMs all of last year but now dropped onto stock 2.3.3 & enjoying the speed, stability and features. You can always add themes and apps to change it around.
I am struggling with the Radio - it takes a long time to pick up the GPS signal, need to look for a Radio fix somewhere.

For Desire HD port, the v1.7 is Final and you can flash just that.
For the earlier Desire port (non-HD), the v2.16 is the final version.
Flashing either one will give you the stock look of HTC Sense by default (except for the 3G and battery icons) when you first boot into the ROM. The theme and skin is basically changeable, so you have choices of stock look or another theme/skin.
Yes, I have tried MoDaCos and ALL the other ROMs and have compared them for almost 1 week non-stop. The smoothness of Desire ported ROM cannot be beat. It may not be the fastest ROM, but it's very smooth and stable (and you get the beautiful HTC feel). One main thing I like about HTC Sense UI is that it's got many useful phone functions when you use it as a phone on a daily basis. Let's face it, the best smartphone should also act like the best phone. I am currently on MM Desire HD v1.7, and if you want the stock 3G & battery icons back, there is a guy that posted a modified framework-res.apk that can be flashed to get the stock icons back. Everything works in the ROM except for HTC Locations which I just cannot get to work. Built-in WiFi Hotspot does not work, but there is Wireless Tethering included in v1.7 which will provide you the same function. Also, make sure you flash 5.12 radio for the best signal performance.
Good luck!
So... you made me curious
So the Desire Port (2.16) is smoother than MoDaCos ROM and the desire HD port (1.7) is even smoother than the desire port (2.16)?
Do one have to create an ext-partition o sd-card?
The only thing that bothers me is that HTC Locations does not work

[Q] Best ROM for INCS?

Anyone able to tell me which is the best rom for the incs?
I really want cyanogenmod but there's the camera problem being so laggy and im always getting late txts and people aint able to call through even though it says I have full reception is there a fix to this issue besides flashing a new radio cause im unable to do that atm due to my hboot being ver 1.16.0000
Im currently using Android Rev HD and its ok but battery life fails. any roms better than ARHD?
Thanks
Its been asked befor, and the threads usually ends up beeing closed because its the same as asking: what color is the prettiest?
You can't answer that becuase its a matter of personal taste and not fact...
And then there is the whole matter about Sense or no Sense, speed or battery life, new features or stablity...
arhd: most stable..
u can try nik's rom: very cool visuals and sense 3.5
rcmix rom is released too try that one too

you are gonna get various answers from people because everyone has different preference/taste. for me, arhd and vu2.39 have been rock solid. it's weird that you're having battery issues with arhd. it's one of the best roms in terms of battery life. there are numerous things you can do to improve battery life. i'm not gonna go into it here since it will take all day and it's been discussed to death. go to the first post in the arhd rom thread and scroll down to the faq section. under the very first question, there are a couple of links to guides that will help you improve battery life.
I'm using CyanogenMod at the moment, but if you want a Sense ROM, I've had great experiences with Nikhil007's Sensation XL.. It was super stable and I got great battery life out of it.
the virtuous team just released their sense 3.5 rom: virtuous affinity. you can find it in the dev section. i've been using it for the last few hours. it's awesome. as expected from the virtuous team.
there are a couple of things missing when comparing to VUv2.39 though...crt animation, extended quicksetting. therefore, my vote for best rom still goes to VUv2.39, only until the virtuous team adds the features i just mentioned to the new rom
Yes, I am a big fan of Virtuous Unity v2.39. I install that, then use ROM Cleaner to scrub off traces of useless HTC stuff, then use OC/UV Beater to underclock (245 Mhz to 998Mhz) and undervolt. My battery drain when idle as reported by Battery Monitor Widget hovers around 19-22mA, which is great! Note that current drain for IncS seems to be reported wrongly using Battery Monitor Widget - we can't get values like 4mA or 6mA compared to other phones like DHD. Cheers!
---------- Post added at 12:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:57 PM ----------
Going to try the new Virtuous Affinity ROM in a couple of days after seeing what the other users have to say about it. And there's a new ROM from RCMix3D too! So many roms to try.. =)
Actually there is no best ROM...But there are few most famous ROM... like ARHD, CM7, Nik Trinity Sensation XL and bla bla bla...
Is totally depend on personality, some people like sense some people not...
So ask yourself what you need?
Pretty look? Long Battery life? or what....
If you like sense... maybe can test it out Nik ROM... is cool and i am using it, so far stable and smooth, battery life for me is good too...
Trust us : Nik_IncredibleS_TriNiTy_SensationXL v 1.5.

to determine this question... is just simply ask yourself.. what do you want..
Ram?quadrant score? CM7
HTC newest sense? with 3.5rom
just for root and want to get a better 2.1 sense?
there is a lot that which requires your preference..
I dun think CM7 is very smooth.. just similar to those adjusted sense rom by yourself with suitable kernel.
Try Nik Rom

Main question u wanna ask urself is do u want sense or not and if so do u want the latest sense? Personally one of the reason's I bought an HTC is HTC sense, otherwise I would have bought a Samsung or Sony Ericson or something like that. Sense= ehab, VU or Niks Trinity xl which is what I'm using...new version out very soon..No sense=arhd etc. Flash a couple, back them up and switch between them to see which u prefer. Whatever u decide, this will become very addictive!
