[Q] Upgraded to AOKP from Overcome 7 but now no 3G - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in Australia using Optus and 3G was working fine with overcome 7, after I flashed AOKP and entered the APN setting, 3G is not working (internet connection not available), I have tried to reset it and use the default APN setting but still no go.
Is the AOKP not working with Australia Optus 3G network?
BTW, the time cannot be changed too, so it has to be the default system time..

Try this setting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637898
But for us, we just didn't get 3G, no no internet.
Do you get signal bar strength at all?
Do this if you know how to use root explorer or ES File Explorer.
Get the JPZ modem.
Unzip it and extract out the modem.bin
Explore to /radio and delete the /radio/modem.bin
replace it with the JPZ you extracted.
Reboot to make sure.
You should get signal.
Then to to the APN setting and set it exactly like stated in the thread.
About setting time, mine has always manually. Don't use the phone provider time.
I always find it wrong.
I manually set my time and time zone, then use ClockSync software to sync.

Working Perfect Now !! Thanks and you are my life saver !!

[Q] APN Settings, where?

Where are the APN settings stored? I mean the file or whatever. Can I backup them?
Thanks.
They are not in the phone. You should add it manually. You can contact your network operator to configure it correctly or you can find the settings on your network operator web page.

Actually, they are In some database, or something...
You can backup and restore them using an app on the market ("APN backup and restore", or something like that, not using it personally...)

Mine are set up automatically, I don't have to do anything
well, thx for that I will have a look in the market ... I thought they are stored in a file or whatever, on the phone.
cause I need to enter them after each flash
Edit: got the app --> http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.riteshsahu.APNBackupRestore
File with APN is stored on "apns-conf.xml" somewhere, i dont know exactly where, sdcard or root (cannot serch, charging my galaxy with power off, right now). I have same file from cyanogen firmware, but dont know prepare for our device, always have some error. This file have APN data almost from all world operators.
Best regards

yes I saw those APN of the other operators. after backing up with the app I looked into this .xml file which is generated by the app and I got 60 entries. but i see only mine in the settings pane on the phone, how come
That was me strange too. But i think, maybe when you etc. go in roaming or chnging SIM card from other operator, connecting with this other operator, we got other APN points in Settings panel. I was make this, and have APN , hanging from wich operater sim card is in my galaxy...(T-Mobile Croatia, VIPnet, and Tele2)

The market is ok on wifi. In 3G, i can browse the net, but not the market. It always gives me the network error. Any idea why?
I get the same exact thing -- It looks like the 3g is actually disabled when the android market is open. The 3g logo actually disappears from the task bar when the market is open. I have to go in and kill the market in the task manager to get the 3g working again. It is really annoying. I am on AT&T if that matters.
The AT&T tech rep I spoke to told me that I would have to call Samsung. (I'm having the same problem with my Galaxy Tab).
i finally got my market working in gingerbread thru 3G! thanks to noxxious for the great help!
try this procedure:
1. backup your data and apps, and your network's apn settings
2. get the sec_csc JQ1.zip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13936755#post13936755 (post no. 47) and unzip it.
3. overwrite the csc folder in /system with the csc folder you got from step 3 (use root explorer)
4. using your dialpad, enter *#272*your_tab_IMEI#.
5. select "XTC" and press "install" (XTC is the international sales code that works on any country).
6. step 5 will wipe your data. if it fails, then switch off your tab and go to recovery mode (press the "on" key and volume up key at the same time).
7. select "wipe data".
8. when your tab restarts, it will propmt you again for setup (your sim card should be in the tab). when you're asked to connect to packet data, click the checkbox next to it. after setup, when i checked the settings\mobile network\apn settings, the tab automatically created the apn settings for me (if not, then manually create apn settings). switch on 3G and access the market!
it worked for me! hope it works for you, too!
This is GREAT ! I had the same problem before and now it"s fixed !
THANKS to noxxious and to vince_junior ! ! !
Market Update
Does the above solution work even after the update to the Android Market is applied? Obviously, wiping the tab will return it to the default apps, including Market.
I can go in to the "App" manager and uninstall the Market update and then it works on 3g but as soon as the update reinstalls (automatically), then the 3g is disabled again.
Thanks
Strange. I have the stock gingerbread but i don'have that problem over 3G. Vodafone in my country have 2 diffrent data plan, "Mobile Internet" where i have no problem with anything, and "Internet on Mobile" where i can browse over the web, but i can't receive calls from Viber or Tango. Those 2 apps work great on " Mobile Internet", so maybe is your data plan who make that things. I have tryed right now on Mobile Internet to open and browsing the Market and is work like a charm.

the sec_csc file in the above post is for philippine carrier networks only. though you could do something similar with a sec_csc for your carrier networks.
Is there any other fix for this? I don't really want to start from scratch on my Glaxy tablet.
US based--at&t carrier.
same problem here. just flashed to overcome hermes and the market does not work on 3g. us att tab. im not really exited about reloading everything- i just finished. perhaps there is another solution?
i have an SGT-P1000N and flashed GB and now my dial-er does not work i am on US T-mobile, i was able to check my voice mail after i did the update, now it goes back to home screen when i hit the call button. any help. or or help going back to Froyo. Thank you

[Answer?] GingerDX Wi-Fi disconnect problem

Hi, I think that the wifi disconnect problem of GingerDX is that the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-wlan0.lease has no "User" permission..
Someone having that problem can confirm it? just have to install a file explorer (I thinks it has to be Root Explorer), go to that file and set User permissions for Read, Write and Execute..
wifi probs is fixed! u just have to forget the network and and connect it again newly!
I tried that so many times with no luck, but when I did that the problems seems to be gone.. So I want to confirm that.. I have seen that other user have that problem too, but I can't post in development forum yet.. u.u

i looked for the file but the dhcp folder is empty. maybe thats why my wifi is not working.
My wifi also sometimes disconnects but it quickly re-connects and everything is ok. Wifi on stock 2.1 was much worse. When it disconnected i even had to restart my home router. I think it is problem with my home wifi device. Maybe yours is broken, either?
get the wifi files from freexperia project.
that file is supposed to be created automatically when you are connected to a wifi network, I deleted it and was auto-created again..

Ad-Hoc with HC S7 4 G?

Can someone who has upgraded their 4G to HC please tell me if it will support Ad-hoc WiFi connections?

I had to root it and with Root Explorer change out the wpa-supplicant file... if you are asking about Ad-Hoc I am taking for granted you have heard about this fix for the Streaks... If not just do a little searching for the file...
Once you have it, you go to /system/bin and find the original and rename it to *.bak or *.old, doesn't matter, just something so you don't lose it in case.
You should have your new wpa_supplicant file on your sd card... move it to that same folder, toggle your wifi off and on a couple of times and reboot... and when you come back you should be able to see ad hoc networks

You are unable to connect to your Ad Hoc network?
Little more info please... does your Streak see the network? If it sees the network and is not connecting, then it's more than likely a problem with your computer and not the phone...
I always set mine up with a simple name like Toshiba which is my laptop brand and I just leave it as an open network because I only use it for a moment so I don't have to put in a password... but still, gimme some more info on what your phone is doing while it tries to connect

Ah ok... so lemme be sure you did this right... you went into /system/bin and found your wpa-supplicant file and renamed it say wpa-supplicant.bak just in case (at least I hope you did) Ok, now you should already have the new file you downloaded on your sd card correct. SO you browse to that file and copy it to the same folder /system/bin and paste it in there...
Then go to your wifi and toggle on and off a couple of times, reboot the phone for good measure and when you come back it should work, if NOT, then rename the new file to wpa-suplicant.new I guess, and the original file, remove the .bak or whatever extension you used and restart your Streak to see if you get connectivity back, if so, then there's something wrong with the file you downloaded

aw man really, so you were putting the whole zip file in the /system/bin?
Well I hope you get it goin!! See it's usually the little things like that that wreak havoc.
YES, it works! I think you helped me realize to unzip the file. Thanks so much!
Ok, I just upgraded to HC on my Streak 7 Wifi. I went and changed the supplicant file like I did on 2.2.2. My Streak connects, but when I connect to the internet I loose connection. Are there any other workarounds for connecting to adhoc wifi?

Not that I know of, but I haven't heard of your problem either, with the file changed out my wifi works just fine
Dell Streak 7 WiFi Rooted - Honeycomb - I also changed my WPA Supplicant and WiFi did not work right either. I had to go back to the original file.

You have to get the correct APN (Access Point Name) for your provider to make data/MMS to work, you should not require the XT883 firmware. Just try google with your SIM provider followed by APN settings.. such as "Orange UK APN Settings" or check their website, or give them a call for the correct APN settings. Some SIMs have the APNs locked into the SIM, some of them do not include APNs (You might check a phone from the SIM provider for the APN).
When you find the correct settings, go to Settings > Wireless & Network settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Create a new APN and enter the info you found. Also check Battery & Data Manager > Data delivery to ensure data is enabled.

On Stock and Blur based roms, there's a little line in the build.prop that Verizon snuck in.. that makes any GSM network appear to have bad reception (only 1~2 bars) but if you check under status, the reception is actually good. You can fix that by editing this line in build.prop;
ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1
Change the 1 to 0 and save, then reboot, this should fix the 'reception issue'
A free root browser would be JRummy's Root browser lite, or ES File Explorer (you can enable root browsing in settings).
Build.prop is in /system
IF YOU INSIST ON FLASHING XT883 (Only required for using AT&T/T-Mobile/Other USA GSM networks)
Open a root browser; copy the build.prop you have to the SDCard or somewhere safe. Copy the build.prop (after you edit the line I mentioned before on the PC, you can use notepad). After you put it in /system MAKE SURE YOU FIX THE PERMISSIONS. Most root browsers just long-press build.prop, then tap permissions (ES is Properties > permissions) Check only Read (on all three, user, other, etc) and Write on Owner ONLY.
Then use the fastboot instructions to flash the XT883 radio. THIS WILL BREAK VERIZON CDMA.
