i tried your cwm.zip last night on my LPF ICS stock galaxy note HK , and everytime i went to select things inside of CWM it would just reboot CWM and stick me back to the top of the screen. i had to flash a newer version of CWM using a different Kernel. plus the STOCK ICS Rom for HK version of n7000 uses up to 1.5GB of space on internal (not SD ) but physical Internal Card. even after doing a PreWIPE before installing the STOCK ICS fw.
i will wait for a custom Rom. after all the BS settles.

[Q] Pleaze help! Update.zip Clockmod recovery???

Hi,
I miss read a guide to upgrade my phone from darky's 8.0 to 9.3 and deleted the update.zip file on the root of my phone and put the rom on the root of my sd... is it the right thing to do or should have I kept the upadate.zip? should I rename the new Rom to update.zip (the tutorial doesn't mention it...)?
I know i'm new here but I made some research and didn't find nothing about what happen when u delete it....
Thanks in advance for the quick answer!
Edit: I think I got it close thread thx
Its fine to remove update zip . As for the rest its a Darky so i have not got a clue as to what his instructions are .
jje
once you have clockword-rcovery there is no use for update.zip...
BTW, when do you use apply update.zip on CWM?
Thanks
only once when you are rooting phone. and for flashing roms choose "install zip from sd card" and than you choose your zip file and flash it.

[Q] How can i change the Kernel in NOTE?

I'm a x10 user who changed the kernel, baseband and of course ROM of my little 4 inch x10... all with xrecovery and flashtools.
I'm now with the wonderful Galaxy NOTE and I read that here I should use CMW, stock recovery and other like ROM manager.
but I haven't seen anything that matches with my kernel KJ8... so
can I change my kernel to KKA OR KK8 OR SOMETHING ELSE???
IF THAT'S THE CASE... HOW DO I DO THAT?
THANKS 4 READING AND LOT OF THANKS 4 ANSWERING ME...
yes you can use a kka or kk9 kernel without a problem.
First you need to root and accordingly flash a kernel.
In developer section you can find how to do so.

THANKS
I'VE ROOTED MY NOTE. EVEN I'VE INSTALLED THE CWM RECOVERY.... I FOUND THIS TRHEAD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371007
BUT THERE'S NO "HOW TO"
CAN U TELL ME PLZ??
THANKS 4 ANSWERING ME X:3
Enough with the capslock.
1. Boot into recovery.
2. From recovery mode, select wipe cache partition
3. Installed zip from SD card
4. Navigate to the kernel and select it to flash it
5. Reboot
Never under any circumstance flash the KK8 Kernel just yet since there's no way to ROOT it.
@georgegon60 You mentioned that you where on KJ8 and that's why you could ROOT it.
Cheers!

[Q] Is it possible to flash Cyanogen Mod by renaming the file to update.zip?

My aunty recently gave my sister a Samsung Galaxy S. I find it laggy and so I want to flash a good rom. I already rooted it. I tried to flash new rom through rom manager, keeps force closing. Stock 2.3 with odin and download mode. Download doesn't work. Apparently it is because my phone is from Optus Australia. I am currently running Android 2.2 Froyo. I have always been a fan of Cyanogen Mod and so I want to flash it.
And so I enter the ClockWorkRecovery and to flash new rom, it has to be called update.zip etc. The ROM file for Cyanogen is update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS. Is it possible to rename this to update.zip so I can flash rom through ClockWorkRecovery? Will it work?
Link to ROM: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/32492-cyanogenmod-7-for-the-samsung-galaxy-s-v710-9-oct-2011/
you can try as in this order...
1. rename the ziped rom file as "update.zip"
2. put it on the root drive.(do not put it in any folder or not in the micro sd card)
3. now go to CWM by pressing vloume up + home + power button
4. select "apply /sdcard/update.zip"
if your CWM does not show it on the main manu ->
5. select "install zip from sdcard"
6. select "apply /sdcard/update.zip"
7. select yes
done it should work...
I dont understand....
Why do you can' t flash it normal?

I dont really know about renaming and flashing it, bit i deffinatly recommend you to flash stock gingerbread first, runs better on gingerbread bootloaders + battery life is way better

Totally agree: flash with Odin the last stock firmware for your area and then root with CF-Root. Now you have the CWM Recovery and are able to flash your file with any name.
You'll need to get into download mode (try adb reboot download after enabling usb debugging on the phone.) If that works, then you can flash the 3-button combo fix, and then flash an alternate firmware using ODIN.

Highly recommend you fix that first. Download mode and 3 button recovery is highly convenient and essential in case a flash goes wrong.

Both don't work for me. Tried. :/
Is there a way to fix it? Apparently it's because I am from Australia Optus... :/
i thought you can choose to install zip from sd card and choose directly which zip file you can use?
in CWM = install zip from sdcard ------choose zip from sd card ; something like that

Tried. Install Rom Mangaer, flash ClockWorkMod. Rebooted. Click install from SD card. The green bar goes to half way then shows up with something aborted. Failed.
Seems a corrupted file.. Have you checked the md5 hash is correct?
Maybe a JIG would help you to run in download mode if it is your problem...
I also think that first of all should be flashing a stock gingerbread using odin, next flash with odin a gingerbread kernel, semaphore, talondev... And then go into recovery and flash the rom you want

[Q] camera not working galaxy note

Yes I know I am a NOOB at 46 but I still can't resist messin with **** that isn't broken. Loved the NOOB video.
The probem is I think I flashed a dodgey ROM app and got scared half way through and tried to reset the phone to factory.
This is my Galaxy Note GT n7000. I have done a factory reset 3 times and believe I am well on my way to bricking my phone if I do this again.
All is good so far except the CAMERA.
I have downloaded the necessary HOTFILE STOCK ROM for NZ from your site but am now scared ****less to flash it.
Should I just give it back to the manufacturer and say DUH I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED and let them fix it
I also have GINGER BREAD 2.3.6 ROM Should I just flash this and hope for a fix
I also have ICS 4.0.4 XXLRG Should I Flash this after 2.3.6
Just need a little help and direction, as this is all quite new to me. Yes I'm sure this has all been done before and as I yell at my kids for doin stupid **** you deserve the same latitude.
Cheers ****
flash gb first.. after flashing the gb do a factory reset and then check your camera if it's working or not.. if you got lucky and got it working then flash a ics otherwise take it to manufacturer for repair.. don't mess up when you don't know what you are doing
Ps: if everything goes well and you flashed a ics rom then please flash a modified stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191

you can go ahead and flash ICS 4.0.4 but donot do a factory reset on stock recovery/kernel..

Thanks for your reply, but if you look at the other reply it says to flash ics and NOT to do a FACTORY reset and you say to do the factory reset what is the risk of doing the factory reset
Not to sure which version of PHILZ modified Kernel to use Can you help with this
If you choose GB, it's safe. But ICS kernels have a bug which can brick the phone if a factory wipe is made. What abhinav said was to do a wipe in GB. Which is safe. What I told you was you can directly install the ICS rom but refrain from wiping till you install a safe kernel.
Go to OAD forum of note and you will see Philz thread. Download any ICS kernel like DDLRB and place on external SD. Then boot in to recovery and choose "apply update from external storage". Choose the zip file you downloaded. Once done boot into recovery again. Yubwill have Cwm. Now you have a safe kernel. You can do a factory wipe.

Thank you for your help. I have fixed the camera with the GB update and went on to update ICS XXLRG, but this still isnt CwM.
Im not sure which Cwm to use There is an XXLSC-XJB which is close. Should I use this one or does it matter
. PhilZ files were unavailable for download as well is there another place to get this file and what is the easiest method to install
Choose as per your rom build number.

My wuild number after flashing ICS is IMM76D.XXLRG but nothing is the same the clsing osest on Philz is XXLSC XJB
Could I flash this using ODIN from my laptop?
Thanks
PS where is the thank you button for my responses I like to say thanks but cant seem to find where
You have an ICS rom. You can use any ICS kernel by Philz. Use xxlrt or ddlrb
Flashing via odin will increase the counter and yellow triangle at boot. Best is to flash via recovery. Place the zip version of the kernel on ext sd card and boot into recovery

Thanks again
I used modified ICS kernel PhilZ cwm6 XXLRG DBT 3.99 signed zip version but when I boot from SD it stops and says that it can't verify the signature and wont install
Do I need and unzip app? If I install this update will I have root access to run apps like Titanium Backup?
Or should I use the tar file in ODIN?
I do appreciate all your time and effort
What option did you select in recovery?
This is what you need to follow
1. Download the signed zip version of the kernel and place in external sd.
2. Boot into recovery and choose "apply update from external storage".
3. Choose the file you downloaded.
4. It will do the magic.
This will give you root access and yes apps like TB can be used. Also you will get CWM and it's a safe kernel too.
Dude he has done everything correct i know.. The v.3.99 of ics kernels are not built correctly when you flash them in stock ics recovery they always give a verification failed error.. But the older versions are ok to be flashed in stock ics recovery

I just flashed the ddlrb 3.99 and worked just fine. Where did you get this info?
Use the tar method only if u are confident enough
And yes you will be able to run applications like titanium backup
And for the flash counter just use triangle away
Search Google for it
All is well that ends well

[Q] How to install CWM manually

Hi all,
I want to install CWM on my rooted SGS however there appears to be on CF Kernel that matches my JVN Kernel so using the CF method is not an option from what I have read.
So I installed ROM Manager and tried to install it that way but I now get signature verification errors when I go into Recovery.
Next I downloaded the recovery image from the CWM website but I cannot seem to find any information on installing it onto a SGS.
If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be appreciated.
TIA
Greg
Edit: Firmware is 2.3.3
Why dont you just flash JVU then Root it
Comes with CWM ....
As I am guessing you want CWM to flash a rom yes?
If so most Roms require ...from my knowledge a clean install of JVU with ODIN before flashing a New Rom

Download this "update.zip". Place it in your SD card. Power off and boot into recovery with the 3 button combination (press power, volume up and home button till you see the boot logo) and select "apply sdcard: update.zip". DO NOT DELETE THIS FROM SD. You should have CWM installed now. Let me know if you have any problem.
You need to root your phone first with update.zip for i9000, download the latest CWM.zip, put it in the storage. Then go to recovery and install the CWM.zip Goodluck flashing!

Can you use any version of JVU? eg: Europe, Asia, Australia. Or, should you only use one for your region, in my case Australia.
I have an Australian verion of JW6 (2.3.6), would that be acceptable?

Thanks for the UPDATE.ZIP, I note it is just a renamed CWM. I did not know you could just rename them and then install them. Thanks.
So, my plan at this stage is to update to 2.3.6 (JW6) and then install CWM via UPDATE.ZIP. Should this work?
TIA
Greg
Yeah you can upgrade first. Flash a firmware or upgrade OTA. You should root your phone first before flashing a custom recovery such as CWM.
