Video playback - Motorola Droid 4

I am going to keep firing away some comments and questions. This board seems a little inactive especially compared to the Galaxy Nexus forum that I came from
Overall I am really digging this phone, great built, great keyboard, great reception.
One thing I noticed though when streaming Netflix last night was that the playback seems choppy at times. Anybody else notice that? Does ICS or a different ROM fix this?

This might be specifically a Netflix compatibility or internet connection issue. I streamed video from the Xfinity TV Player yesterday and the quality was excellent.

[Q] Video playback in stock internet browser.

Hi i bought my DS7 a while ago and I upgraded it to HC.
And I've noticed that under HC the video playback in internet browser i really choppy it used to be like that on Froyo as well but on HC it's even worse.
Sometimes video just stop for about 5-7 seconds and just skip forward after a while. The sound is fine.
I'm watching a normal quality 360p/480p straight from the webiste.
While I'm using YouTube app everything is fine even in high res videos.
Everything is smooth.
What may cause it ? Any ideas ?
My internet connection is 14Mb/s.
And I always connect via wi-fi cause I've got the wi-fi only model.
I really like that tablet but the choppy video playback is killing me.
And I don't want to sell it just because of that.
What websites are you watching off of?
Flash on android can accelerate some types of video, but not all.
I dont have any issues streaming 480p / h264(avc)+aac to my s7.
I would assume it could take up to 1080i/p if it wasnt for the fact the screen cant display it at all IF the video is in a format that can be accelerated.
Youtube switched over to h264 a while back as the iphones couldnt render vp6(or whatever it was) at all; so all but the oldest, unupdated videos are h264 which is accelerated.
Other websites can use whatever codec their flash video player allows, which potentially means you're watching a video in a codec that isnt accelerated on android = choppy even at low res.
I'm reading lots of websites.
Mostly www.gamezilla.pl, www.ppe.pl, www.gadżetomania.pl, www.ps3site.pl
These are polish websites about games and gadgets.
Could anyone try them on yours DS7 ?
I hate iPad and other 9/10 inch tablets but when I go to the mall and I try one of them with my favourite websites and it's always so super smooth I think more and more about buying one and selling my precious DS7 ...
If it's Android's fault or tegra's 2 then all I can do really is to buy a new tablet ;/
Can you provide a specific example?
I opened a random video and it works fine, it's also 720p
http://gamezilla.komputerswiat.pl/filmy/2011/39/guild-wars-2
Generally if it doesnt work on android it wont work on ios either as android supports more stuff (mainly via flash, non flash is equal)
Bummer ... Maybe I've got to much trash on my device.
I'll try to reset the whole thing to factory settings and I'll try it on fresh and clean setup. If that won't help then I'll look arround for different device I guess.
Thanks for trying anyway
If you can find a working example odds are it wont work on any tablet.
If that's the case only thing you can really do is yell at the website because they're using codecs that arnt favored by any platform (pcs can get-by by brute forcing their way though)
Let me see.
I watched this news today and it was really choppy all 3 YT videos :
http://www.ppe.pl/news-12500-PlayStation_Vita_wyladowalo_w_Japonii.html
Hmm strange, it's slightly choppy if you watch though the miniplayer.
But if you click the youtube button it loads and is completely smooth, so it's not the video itself. There's a possibility it's the miniplayer not behaving.
The youtube site player is a HTML5 one i believe, so it might either be flash or the player itself that's the issue. In this one example i'd say to just watch it though youtube, but that's not applicable on other sites if they're also giving issue.
From what I know if this happened on ios you simply end up with no video at all if it doesnt have the HTML5 version available. Assuming you dont watch it though the youtube app (which would still be recommeneded for both platforms if possible)
The reason i like to watch straight from the webiste is that its much more easy, less taping etc.
Just one tap and after watching I can carry on reading the news.
Thanks for help.
Have you tried Dolphin Hd browser. I stopped using the stock ds7 browser for the same reason

[Q] Problem streaming video

Just got the HTC One today and so far everything has been going well with the exception of video streaming. Whether it be from YouTube or Netflix, I can't seem to buffer my videos up to a HQ/HD quality. I compared this with an iPhone 5 at the same time and that played videos perfectly.
Anyone know what the problem could be or if there are any settings I can tinker with?

Chromecast and new Nexus 7, YouTube issues

Hello,
I am using Chromecast with my new Nexus 7. I have issues with YouTube, since it plays perfectly the first video I start but always timeouts on the next one I try to play. I have to disconnect and reconnect to be able to make YouTube video streaming work again.
Any ideas of what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance!
I haven't noticed this on my Nexus 7 (2013). I will check again tonight and will report.
Mine is very seemless. I tried creating queue And they played all without any glitch. Check your internet connections?

Screw Google Chromecast
Yeah, the chromecast sucks. Don't buy one. I was excited, but it just goes to a spinning circle all the damn time. A 6 minute 480p video took 25 minutes to play. That's 19 full minutes of the buffering circle.
Before you jump on my ****, I do IT for a living, it's got 2 bars, and all 10 other devices have NO issue playing youtube (on the same wifiN router), so don't go there.
Yes, that's more or less what happens to me. Resetting the device makes it work again, I assume it might be because Chromecast gets very worm, I can't find any other explanation than cheap hardware.

Yeah I was disappointed that this thing didn't have an ethernet port. For wireless, I noticed it doesn't even run on 5Ghz. At least not properly, I don't think. I need the router in the same room for it to run ~smoothly
Otherwise, when my brother leaves the tv on while I'm up in my room. I play scary youtube videos with loud noises to wake him up.

As an IT guy you should understand that every situation is unique. The good news is that there's almost always a solution. The times when problems can't be solved are rare. I would encourage you to look at other avenues to solve this so you can help others when they need it. Your blanket statement that it's a bad product and doesn't work simply isn't the norm. Most experience the opposite of you.
I did have problems with my Actiontec router but found a solution. My daughter, who also has an Actiontec router in her condo just plugged it in and it worked. She's a doctor and, believe me, her technical skills are not that great. It just worked for her. Another daughter of mine, a school teacher, had the plug and play experience also. Just works.
Like you, I work in IT. I manage 80 IT folks. The one thing I stress on my staff is a little message that a Calculus professor used to tell us when I was an undergrad at UCLA: "There are so many ways to solve the problem you can't help but get the right answer." So, I challenge you to keep trying and don't give up. I'm sure there's a solution for you. Once you find that solution your skills will have been enhanced and you'll be better able to help others that come here with similar problems.
Good luck

This appears to be a glitch not resulting from any sort of connection. The issue isn't signal but some sort of failure in the code. What happens is it plays a video, goes to queue up the next one, shows the banner and dies. A fix is to toggle the app to play on the device and then back to the TV but it clears your queue which is annoying. Once its toggled it immediately plays for me.
Hoping they fix it soon. But it isn't a deal breaker by any means.

Yes, by switching device / tv then video plays. I really hope it's some coding bug and not heating related, since code fan be fixed.

Every IT situation is unique, sure. But this device can't keep from constantly buffering even at 480p. It's ridiculous. And no, it's not the router. I have 5 android phones, 3 laptops, and 2 android tablets that all play youtube without EVER stopping in the middle of the video, and most of them at 1080p. 2 of those phones are really old ones (model escapes me at the moment, I don't use them much these days). It's the device. It's not either of my routers, it's not my 30mb down connection, and it's certainly not user error or network congestion. Probably the NSA backdoor google installed in it is slowing it down.
F Google, and F this broken crap device.
Oh, and additionally it can't play side loaded songs from my phone in Google Play music. It can't even stream an mp3 WITH NO VIDEO. This is not just bad hardware, this is outright crap design.
"Connecting..." in YouTube
I'm seeing something similar too... I can playback the first video fine, the tablet then displays "Connecting..." in the YouTube app - but I can't control the video or add new videos to the queue. I have to kill the app to play another video. BTW, same thing happens on my Nexus 10... but I don't see the problem if I'm using a PC+chrome. I've got another Chromecast that should be coming in a few days... so will compare to see if it is a hardware issue or something else.
I was watching YouTube on my Chromecast yesterday and had something very similar happen. The first video I watched had no problems but every video after that had buffering problems. I even tried re-casting it, leaving the app, and restarting it but the problem didn't go away. I thought it was a heat issue so I disconnected it and haven't tried it since but am going to try again tonight. They were long videos (about an hour or so each) but I doubt that has anything to do with the buffering issue.
I know it wasn't my internet because when I played YouTube on my laptop and my PS3, it could stream at the highest quality no problem. It seems to be only happening on the Chromecast.

Haven't really played around with it but I can agree with you on the fact that it WILL NOT play side loaded music which is just crap. What's the point of having it connect to your device to stream music if it CANNOT play it?? Stupid if you ask me, I hope that GOOGLE is planning on fixing their device. Why put a plug in from people rooting the device and being able to make the device work the way they want it to? Sorry your device doesnt work either..

I am still having this issue. Basically with YouTube not being able to stream 2 videos in a row the device is crap. Still waiting to be able to stream local pictures and videos, Google please hurry.

Audio stuttering from YouTube and Play Music

So, casting from Netflix seems to work fine, but anything from YouTube or Play Music results in audio so choppy it sounds like a toddler trying to learn to be a DJ. Video from YouTube plays fine, with no hesitation. Any ideas?
Local files seem to be okay as well. Netflix audio stutters a little at first (maybe 1min),but eventually smooths out. It still does it long enough to be annoying. Kinda regretting my chromecast...
Really, no one?
no issues like that here. well once a youtube video did after i resumed from pausing it reloading the vid solved that issue.
Local files? you're still able to play them?
Yeah, dropping a file into Chrome and casting the tab seems to work. When casting a tab, I'm assuming that a mild delay is typical, right?
To some degree as that is still in beta. Network conditions also play a bigger part when casting via chrome

Well, someone (on another site, obviously) suggested it might be a bad unit, so I returned it. Grabbed another today...and same thing. Is there a particular wireless security type that it doesn't like? I'm on a 2.4Ghz router. Is there a particular channel that's better?

Use WPA-personal/WPA-PSK is sufficient.
I'm using WPA-personal. And all WiFi Analyzer seems to be telling me is that I have great reception. The channel I'm on fluctuates between 9 and 10 stars, but a couple seem to hold on 10, so I guess I could switch, but it doesn't seem to be a big difference.

Bluetooth Audio Stutter / Skips

I have received my T-Mobile Note 4, and I have the infuriating problem of random Bluetooth streaming skips / stutters. Does anyone else have this issue? I know it was a known problem on the S5's, and it never really got fixed...
Does anyone have any solutions for this? I checked out the ViPER EQ mod, could that help?
Currently I am 100% stock (latest version, got the T-Mobile patch right away), and I only use Spotify for music. I have experienced stutter in my Nissan, a pair of Sennheisers, and a Monoprice Bluetooth adapter. What's also upsetting is that the stock Samsung music player often starts playing when a Bluetooth streaming device is connected...
Any advice?

I am having the same issue. I really don't know if this is an issue or not. I drive charger and my M8 was the same. It's annoying I feel ya. hopefully someone can tell us how to control this thing.
i've had that issue since HTC One...
not sure if i ever saw a way to fix this issue.

It's funny because I'm coming from the M8 and it was flawless for me. That is was running 4.4.2, whereas this is 4.4.4... Any correlation?

I really don't know if this an issue. My M8 4.4.3 and had same thing. But to be fair Note 4 is more superior inside my car. I am able to listen to my text msg. Voice commands works really good on note 4.
I have this issue from time to time on my Nexus 5. I have to reboot it to fix it. It happens maybe 1 out of 30 times I use BT headsets. Enough to be annoying but not a deal breaker. I am beginning to think this may be an Android issue and not Samsung. Those that have the issue on Note 4, does a reboot fix the problem?
Every now and then when I play Tunein Radio Pro, it would be a hick up. I already did the 30 sec buffer. But usually it works. Is this what you mean?
In my Jeep Wrangler I have BlueTooth. Every few months when I get a new device, I always have to call my mom for the BlueTooth test. The Note 4 has been the only phone to pass. For whatever reason my mom's phone would always sound like I was in a tunnel with the exception on the Note 4. Even the LG G3 failed this. In my 2012 GTI I had issues with some devices as well as my 08 WRX. It always came down the the BlueTooth stack for phone call quality and skipping and sometimes just dropping/crashing out of BT all together. Hope you guys get yours resolved. I know this is a huge problem. Heck when Note had its recent update, I was worried it would break something its just been too good so far! Best of luck guys.
I believe its a kitkat bug. It happened on my note 3 as well
Might warrant a return.
This is so annoying. I'm coming from an M8 (and previously M7) and use bluetooth for everything. Wireless headphones at the gym, wireless speakers at home, media in my car, and a Moto360.
Never had any skips/stutters on previous devices through any of these. Moreover, sometimes the music just STOPS and drops the connection and I have to repair the two devices in the middle of a workout. Is anyone experiencing the music STOPPING? Might return/exchange mine if not.
This happens through any media app - GPM, Milk, Netflix, etc. Want to throw my device.
I am having this issue in my Outback, but it is not happening in my WRX. I was thinking maybe it just doesn't like one, but now I see this is a larger issue. I haven't had this problem with my S5, so maybe it'll clear up when some Roms are released.
I'm having the same issue with my wireless Bluetooth headphones. I thought it was because I was too far away from the phone, but I'm having the same problem when I'm close to the phone also. My Note 3 does not have this problem.
I used my like at least 6 years old Bluetooth headset for like the 4 hours and in that time I barely had skips it only skipped when I left the room and went a few feet away also
Sent from my SM-T210R using XDA Free mobile app
same here
I'm having the same problem
I find this happens when the screen is off. When it's on, no issue. I hope an update fixes this soon.
This stopped after I went to Firekat Rom. Not sure why or how, but Bluetooth is smooth now

Just wanted to verify if anyone is NOT experiencing this issue? If there are Note's out there that are not experiencing it then I might exchange mine. If this is a software issue for all notes then this blows.

As I reported before, I had a similar issue on my Nexus 5 and rebooting would fix it. It was a rare occurrence but it would happen from time to time.
I have not experienced the issue at all on my Note 4 in the 8 days I have had it. I use BT quite a bit with my Heart Rate sensor and BT headsets while running and also connected to my stereo in my Sonata. Has been flawless so far.
This might have something to do with S-Health. Audio skipped for me every 10 minutes or so. Didn't matter the BT equipment. Yesterday, I decided to Disable S_Health. Today, at the gym, about a 90 minute session...no skips. The guy above using FireKat, by any chance that rom has S-Health disabled/uninstalled by default?
