I have received my T-Mobile Note 4, and I have the infuriating problem of random Bluetooth streaming skips / stutters. Does anyone else have this issue? I know it was a known problem on the S5's, and it never really got fixed...
Does anyone have any solutions for this? I checked out the ViPER EQ mod, could that help?
Currently I am 100% stock (latest version, got the T-Mobile patch right away), and I only use Spotify for music. I have experienced stutter in my Nissan, a pair of Sennheisers, and a Monoprice Bluetooth adapter. What's also upsetting is that the stock Samsung music player often starts playing when a Bluetooth streaming device is connected...
Any advice?

I am having the same issue. I really don't know if this is an issue or not. I drive charger and my M8 was the same. It's annoying I feel ya. hopefully someone can tell us how to control this thing.
i've had that issue since HTC One...
not sure if i ever saw a way to fix this issue.

It's funny because I'm coming from the M8 and it was flawless for me. That is was running 4.4.2, whereas this is 4.4.4... Any correlation?

I really don't know if this an issue. My M8 4.4.3 and had same thing. But to be fair Note 4 is more superior inside my car. I am able to listen to my text msg. Voice commands works really good on note 4.
I have this issue from time to time on my Nexus 5. I have to reboot it to fix it. It happens maybe 1 out of 30 times I use BT headsets. Enough to be annoying but not a deal breaker. I am beginning to think this may be an Android issue and not Samsung. Those that have the issue on Note 4, does a reboot fix the problem?
Every now and then when I play Tunein Radio Pro, it would be a hick up. I already did the 30 sec buffer. But usually it works. Is this what you mean?
In my Jeep Wrangler I have BlueTooth. Every few months when I get a new device, I always have to call my mom for the BlueTooth test. The Note 4 has been the only phone to pass. For whatever reason my mom's phone would always sound like I was in a tunnel with the exception on the Note 4. Even the LG G3 failed this. In my 2012 GTI I had issues with some devices as well as my 08 WRX. It always came down the the BlueTooth stack for phone call quality and skipping and sometimes just dropping/crashing out of BT all together. Hope you guys get yours resolved. I know this is a huge problem. Heck when Note had its recent update, I was worried it would break something its just been too good so far! Best of luck guys.
I believe its a kitkat bug. It happened on my note 3 as well
Might warrant a return.
This is so annoying. I'm coming from an M8 (and previously M7) and use bluetooth for everything. Wireless headphones at the gym, wireless speakers at home, media in my car, and a Moto360.
Never had any skips/stutters on previous devices through any of these. Moreover, sometimes the music just STOPS and drops the connection and I have to repair the two devices in the middle of a workout. Is anyone experiencing the music STOPPING? Might return/exchange mine if not.
This happens through any media app - GPM, Milk, Netflix, etc. Want to throw my device.
I am having this issue in my Outback, but it is not happening in my WRX. I was thinking maybe it just doesn't like one, but now I see this is a larger issue. I haven't had this problem with my S5, so maybe it'll clear up when some Roms are released.
I'm having the same issue with my wireless Bluetooth headphones. I thought it was because I was too far away from the phone, but I'm having the same problem when I'm close to the phone also. My Note 3 does not have this problem.
I used my like at least 6 years old Bluetooth headset for like the 4 hours and in that time I barely had skips it only skipped when I left the room and went a few feet away also

same here
I'm having the same problem
I find this happens when the screen is off. When it's on, no issue. I hope an update fixes this soon.
This stopped after I went to Firekat Rom. Not sure why or how, but Bluetooth is smooth now

Just wanted to verify if anyone is NOT experiencing this issue? If there are Note's out there that are not experiencing it then I might exchange mine. If this is a software issue for all notes then this blows.

As I reported before, I had a similar issue on my Nexus 5 and rebooting would fix it. It was a rare occurrence but it would happen from time to time.
I have not experienced the issue at all on my Note 4 in the 8 days I have had it. I use BT quite a bit with my Heart Rate sensor and BT headsets while running and also connected to my stereo in my Sonata. Has been flawless so far.
This might have something to do with S-Health. Audio skipped for me every 10 minutes or so. Didn't matter the BT equipment. Yesterday, I decided to Disable S_Health. Today, at the gym, about a 90 minute session...no skips. The guy above using FireKat, by any chance that rom has S-Health disabled/uninstalled by default?

So I paired the One with my QED uPlay at home and I'm having issues. The phone has to literally be 30cm away from the receiver or the audio will start getting distorted until it eventually cuts off. I have two uPlays, issue exists on both so its not tbe receiver. Also my iPhone 4s has no issues either. I was hoping the One had better audio than the iPhone since it has aptx, but its quite the opposite. Has anyone tried bluetooth music streaming? Is it just a faulty phone?

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi both use the 2.4GHz channel. Asus had issues with the Prime because of its all-aluminum design where they had to greatly amplify the Wi-Fi signal and use diversity antennas to get through it. HTC uses the latter on the One. When used together, the Wi-Fi signal can overpower and interfere with the BT signal. Try turning off Wi-Fi and see if your connection quality changes. You're the first one to mention a BT issue so it could be unique to your device. Time will tell.
I have had a problem with bt connecting to my car (audi a1) I can hear the call but the other end cannot hear me. Going to delete connection and try again tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies. I switched off WIFI, re-paired the device and bluetooth started working perfectly, so it makes sense it was interference. Strange thing is I turned WIFI back on and bluetooth was still working fine. I'll do further tests in my car tomorrow see how it goes. If I'm not convinced I'll just get the phone replaced.
I have also had issues with bluetooth paired to my hands free car kit. Issues have surfaced when streaming music and also when making audio calls via bluetooth.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
The One X had a similar issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
It could be that when I was first trying the WIFI antenna was stuck on high power, which caused the interference, but when I reset the WIFI it reduced its power and no longer interfered with the BT. I have changed the WIFI at home to run at 5 GHZ, but work still runs on 2.4.

Apparently 1.29.709.4 has been officially released in Taiwan by HTC, so it shouldn't be long before the update arrives to the rest of us (hopefully).
got the same issue...some times I got no lags in audio streaming, but sometimes they are there...until it (maybe) will be fixed I'm using a widget, my cousin has coded for me yesterday . Quite simple solution. If I press the button, wifi turns off and bt turns on...works fine for me, so far

I am having a problem with my note 4 edge and my car stereo. Here is a little background.
I have a 2012 Subaru STi with the stock stereo and Bluetooth capability. When I had a note 2 there were *zero* issues with the device automatically connecting when I got into the car and resuming where I left off.
When I traded my phone for the note 3, I lost the auto paring feature and had to go to my stereo every time I turned the car on and select my device. ( I did lots of trouble shooting here... stock, rooted, un rooted, different ROMs) and no mater what, I could not auto pair. Additionally, there were often times where in order to play a call through the stereo I had to go to the phone, select Bluetooth settings, select pair voice with car.
Soo it is time to get a note 4. I figure it cannot be any worse than going from a note 2 to the note 3. Boy was I wrong!
The note 4 does not auto connect either.
I use spotify for streaming the music and have the files downloaded locally to the phone. Without rhyme or reason, the music will simply stop playing and my car will show "BT-A (blue tooth audio) Paused as if I hit the pause button on spotify. When I look at the phone, the song is still playing without issue and is not paused as far as spotify is concerned. I then have to hit the back or next track song to resume playing music.
it is very random.. for example, 5-10 seconds into a song it stopped and did this about 10 times. The drive home yesterday would let me get about halfway through a song before this, and the day prior would always freeze a the end of a song.
I have reinstalled spotify, factory reset the phone without any luck.
I know the next step for trouble shooting is to start trying different media sources and comparing (holidays/work have made that hard).
has anyone had issues with their note 4 and their car stereo? I will likely just be buying a new stereo because this is starting to be frustrating.

Was there a change from functionality from the note 3 to note 4 regarding Bluetooth? If the autopairing is the issue, I understand that. However, once connected, I cannot figure out why it hiccups and stops.

Interesting. Man this was unexpected! Thank you very much for your info. I guess I figured this was not a Bluetooth generation issue since it still pairs when I manually do it.

so many changes it not worth buying a head unit cause you still gonna need to modify the phone with the new files as long as it does not need new hardware. if your note 3 worked maybe see if a dev is willing to downgrade ur bluetooth or teach ya what you need to move around.

Well I think a new head unit is in the future regardless, the STi is fast but lackluster with comfort features such as sound. Would it be safe to assume that any mid-top shelf head unit would be compatible? I have looked at a few, they do not seem to state a Bluetooth version with them.
I may just go toy around with some at the store and decide from that.

Have you tried using your phone with another bluetooth device example a bluetooth speaker etc?...The reason I ask is I have hands free bluetooth with my 2014 Nissan Titan, it worked fine with Note 3 I had previously, connected with no issues but when I received the Note 4 for some reason it would disconnect from bluetooth. I than decided to pair my wireless bluetooth speaker I use to listen music from my phone and it didn't work. So I had to get a replacement Note 4 as bluetooth was the issue on the Note 4 as it didn't work, so you might have the same issue.
Damn... i think you are right. Does the new note 4 work fine with your car? I jus thooked this up to my A33 bluetooth speaker and it does the same thing... cuts in and out, plays weird and not right. I already paid 25$ for the screen protector to be applied... im going to be pissed i have to return it.
Did you get a new device or refurb?

To throw another variable in the mix...
I have no issue with streaming Bluetooth Netflix to my Beats headphones... with spotify messing up with my car and blue tooth speaker, perhaps it is a spotify issue.
I will get another streaming app to test out.
How could it work with my headphones without issue, but not with other devices and result in a hardware problem for the phone? This is now making me think it is more likely an issue with spotify

And another thought!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnYFs6OpGGs
Shows some interesting ways to mess with my car's stock head unit. One of the comments mentions there are two ways to pair a Bluetooth device and only 1 is meant for the owner which includes auto connect. I am going to see if that is my issue and post back!
I use BT at home daily for listening to music and netcasts. I have a couple of different BT speakers as well as the awesome Panasonic Link-to-Cell phone system for those who have dropped their home hard-wired phone lines. I also use BT constantly when I am in my car.
With my LG G2, BT connection was seamless and immediate, all the time, for years now. It connected to multiple devices as soon as I walked in the door and with my car audio as soon as I started my car.
With the N5, it always needs to be re-paired manually - especially at home where there are two devices waiting to pair with it as soon as I come home. It'll pair with the Panasonic phone, but when I select a speaker, the N5 disconnects from the Panasonic and then I have to re-pair with it. It will work once I spend a moment managing connections. In the car it often pares immediately, but sometimes not.
Another observation is that the N5's BT range is short, and it will drop if a line-of-sight gets interrupted momentarily.
In an attempt to fix, I have wiped the cache for both Bluetooth apps that come with the VZW N5 - that didn't help. Then, I wiped the system cache, also no dice. I wonder if this is carrier-dependent (I am on VZW) or something to do with older BT devices and the newer BT protocol that the N5 uses. I've read that the N4 has similar BT issues.
Overall, it's usable, but not as good as my old G2. Anyone else have these issues? Fixes??
This issue persists to this day. I can accommodate it with some manual intervention when I want to connect to my BT speakers.
Looking to get a BT 4.x speaker to see if it's just a BT version issue.
I only use Bluetooth in my car and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. Always connects as soon as I start the car and never drops the connection or anything. It syncs my contacts and everything just fine as well. I don't use Smart Lock however. Maybe try turning that off?

I think that's the case. For some reason samsung's 4.1 Bluetooth protocol is not backwards compatible. Ever since the s4 Bluetooth meta data has stopped working in my 2012 Mazda. Works fine with my N5 (nexus 5) and my LG G4. If I had to bet I think that's the issue with you. I could be wrong. Just thought I'd share.

Note 5 always works with my car, does not drop or anything but it has an unstable connection to my samsung gear circle headphones. I believe it is the 5.1.1 update, because they work with my wife's note 3 just fine and they used to work fine before the 5.1.1 update.
Did you ever resolve your issue? looks like some are successful after getting their device replaced and others are not and say the problem comes back. All seems to be related to the 5.1.1 update..

Thanks for writing. I found out that if I disable wifi, it connects a little better, though not as good as my wife's phone, Note 3 (my previous phone)
I tried to find ways to change the frequency it connects, but google was not helpful. Maybe some of the experts here could be helpful, I do not know.
Anyways, I tried to connect to our smart bulb yesterday. It would pair, but would never connect, wifi or not. On the other hand, the Note 3 connected to it immediately.
They keep updating the gear circle software but it is the phone fault, since gear circle is able to connect to my laptop from even another floor!
It's not the BT device... I have terrible luck with expensive purchases and my note 5 was no exception. I upgraded from a galaxy S relay (love keyboards) and about 1 month later my Bluetooth stopped working from all through my house to needing a DIRECT line of sight and max range of about 2 feet. Netflix, hulu, audible all pretty much useless with this issue.
I returned it and got a new one (not referbished) and I noticed a slight lag in key strokes. About 2 weeks go by and the bottom half of my screen is going haywire. Trying to scroll a Web page and it would click everywhere. Typing like I am now would result in 100s of extra letters I was never close to pressing. I returned it and got a referbished one and same thing... my 4th one which I'm using to type this just started doing the Bluetooth thing and I'm so mad.
It's not the Bluetooth device because I tried my old Plantronics I used for 5 years, my new Plantronics, my car, and these weird speakers that have water pumps in them and the issue was the same. I love this phone but it seems to hate me...

Quick question, do you have android 5.1.1 or 6? I still have 5.1.1 and thats when it started with the problems. It was all fine and dandy with android 5.0.
My wife has a Note 3 with 5.0 and the same headphones are just fine with it.
I have been waiting for android 6 to see if it works out.
My Note 5 upgraded itself to Android 6.0 and all my bluetooth problems are solved magically. I cannot believe how they can manage to screw up things for so many months and we have to wait for the new OS to have it solved. For Samsung Gear Circle none the less. I know I am not buying bluetooth watches or anything in case they screw up bluetooth again in an "update".
As soon as I updated to Marshmellow I instantly starting having issues with my audio quality via bluetooth car. On 5.1.1 voice quality was fine, but now it sounds almost like it's out of phase and skipping badly. Is this a known issue, if so, is there a fix?
Thanks!
I use BT in my truck every day. I haven't had any skips that are consistent. Every once in a while, I might hear the audio drop for a split second, but I don't find that it's worse than it was before. I use mine for music and voice calls. I never have any trouble with voice calls. I've always had those little random split second drops with any phone I've had, so I figure it's my stereo.
This sounds more like someone put the whole car underwater and is trying to speak with their mouth full of water as well. I had no problems before when I was on 5.1.1. I've tried a customer 6.0 rom and it has the same problem. I'll try going back to a 5.1.1 rom and see if still does it.

I saw issues where there were bluetooth connection issues where there would be no audio, but not specifically my problem. Do you have any documentation so I know what to look for in the future?
Audio streaming from something like Spotify is not affected, just when the car is used as a headset.

Thanks for trying. I went back to Lollipop and the issue is gone. Definitely a bug in Marshmallow.
My experience was opposite. Bluetooth sound quality was horrible on 5.1. After updating to 6.0 all problem went away. I was extremely happy with their fix.
Hi,
I'm having a strange issue with audio over Bluetooth when Mobile Hotspot is on and I was wondering if there is anyone who can help me out.
When my Mobile Hotspot is on and I'm listening music in my car over Bluetooth there is sometimes a random stutter in my audio.
The stutter (no audio for small amount of time) only lasts ~300ms but it totally random. Sometimes there are a few stutters in a few minutes of time, but sometimes it can also a just one stutter within 15 minutes.
I've got a dashcam in my car that I want to have connected to the internet when I'm driving, so that's why I'm using my Mobile Hotspot in my car.
The data flow is as follows (simultaneously):
4G connection => Deezer music app => Bluetooth => audio.
Dashcam => Mobile Hotspot => 4G Connection.
I've got a feeling that the stutter is happening when some network activity is happening over the Mobile Hotspot, but I'm not sure.
When I disable my Mobile Hotspot the stutters are gone.
Your help is appreciated!
Edit:
After more testing it has nothing to do with the Mobile Hotspot, but with Bluetooth in general. Especially when receiving a notification while streaming audio over Bluetooth gives me stutter.
I have the 8GB Exynos (512GB) edition
I'm getting the random Bluetooth hiccup without hotspot enabled.
Also me even when I connect one Bluetooth device
Hm, yesterday was the first time since this phone releases that my Bluetooth connection also sometimes stutters, even without the Mobile Hotspot enabled. It's a lot less than having Mobile Hotspot enabled but it still happened.
Very weird, my Bluetooth connection also stuttered on my previous phone, the Samsung Note 3. Only on the stock rom though, when I used LineageOS the stutters were gone.
I was getting audio stutter over Bluetooth with music and notifications causing problems. My phone is being sent back Monday though.
From the op I was maybe thinking some crossover signal interference, but with a number of you saying the same and now I've just tried my Bluetooth ear buds and they stutter a little too, I guess it's a more general issue. I doubt it's a hardware problem as Bluetooth isn't exactly a new thing, I can't see Samsung using shoddy radios. I assume software as stuttering seems worse with screen off, maybe some power saving feature misbehaving, or background processes not getting priority, I don't know. Hopefully an update fixes it.
Are any of you on custom ROMs and experiencing it?
I'm going to flash one as soon as my memory card arrives, I thought woohoo 128 GB, no need to buy yet another card for another device, then read all the development forums that say in the process you need to format data haha, so a card is needed after all ? But once I'm done I'll test Bluetooth again.

I just went through the list of apps and disabled battery optimizations for Bluetooth and the Deer music app. I also have disabled battery optimizations for Mobile Hotspot, in the Hotspot settings.
Next week I will try to test this and hope there will be a difference. If I can't notice any differences I think I will try to contact Samsung about this.
I know when I used CyanogenMod and LineageOS on my Samsung Note 3 the stutters were gone, but I don't want to flash my new Samsung Note 9 yet.

Yes I have done similar but not had chance to test it yet. I wouldn't waste your time contacting Samsung, they'll either fix it, or they won't, regardless of what anyone wants haha

Hmm, I've tested more today but disabling battery optimizations doens't do anything.
And I've noticed that these stutters are happening when receiving notifications, as mentioned above. So I think this has nothing to do with the Mobile Hotspot.
I hope Samsung fixes this, I'm not the one having this problem.
Im having B/T issues too. Random disconnects and reconnects, stuttering, etc.
Others on the Samsung forums are having the same issue.
There is something wrong with the bluetooth stack. This is undeniable.
I guess I'll hold on to my note 8 for now; reading alot of weird stuff about the 9, and a new flagship shouldn't have all this going on with it right out of the gate..

Do you happen to have a link to the Samsung Forum topic(s)?
Thank you!
No issue here
I have Exynos 8GB
No issues here. Tried with multiple headphones and the car too. Exynos 128.

What happens when you receive a notification when streaming audio over Bluetooth? no stutter at all?

No. Just a pause, notification, pause and back to music.

No issue at all. I stream youtube to my car aux bluetooth. I receive multiple notifications as well as calls.
Weird, some have stutter and some have not.
Will try to have the screen turned on while stream music, see if that makes any difference.
Or maybe changing Bluetooth settings in the Developer Options will do something.
Hmm, have the screen turned on while streaming dind't do anything and changing Bluetooth settings in the Developers Options didn't do anything as well.
