That's what I'm working with right now. I had many roms before I decided to come back to the stock version listed above. Now, I'm trying to get the gps going and the GPS Test shows that the phone doesnt connect to any satellites. I tried some other gps programs and they don't seem to be working either, due to no satellite signal. Any ideas?
Thanks.
EDIT:
GPS test found 3 satellites in the area, but it won't connect to any...
Update to UCKK4 then we can help you
where can i find it? it doesn't seem to be posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
edit: just kidding, didnt scroll down. silly me
Updated, still same thing. What do u think? I also tried the use of wireless networks and still didn't help. Ideas?
Did you factory reset? Maybe your GPS antenna isn't working... When did this start happening?
It's been like that for quite a while. It's hard for me to estimate since I've never really used gps. I didn't do a factory reset, I used the "I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, NO Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe."
^
For the GPS... Turn GPS on, go into Angry GPS (*#*#3214789650#*#*). Under Settings/ Supl Settings/ Change the Server to supl.google.com and change the Server Port to 7276 . Select Done. Then hit back twice and select Delete GPS Data. Then hit back twice and u should be home. Install the free GPS Test app from the Market and check it. U should be a whole lot better now.

Okay, seems like we're getting closer to solving this. After doing what 4-2ndtwin said my phone started to lfind more satellites in the area, although it's not connecting to any of them. Am i suppose to somehow connect to them, im guessing it should be automatic.
Edit: Nevermind! I had to wait a second. Thanks to both of you. Problem solved!
still no gps
I have the same problem as Satis1994 ... no satellites under gps test app ... I also used I the "I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, NO Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe." . I did what 4-2ndtwin suggested but... nothing! GPS icon just keep flashing ... and that's it .... please help!
Under Settings/ Applications/ Manage applications, go to GPS Test app and clear data, clear cache, force stop. Back out to Home and try again. If not successful afterwards, then u may need to try another modem.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
thanks for your fast reply ... I followed those settings but nothing ... it doesn't even find a single satellite. You mentioned that maybe I need to try another modem ... sorry but I'm kinda of a newbie ... how you do that?
U can use Odin3 v1.83 or similar to flash a modem. Run Odin on ur pc, select the PHONE tab, and navigate on ur pc to the modem.bin file of the modem of ur choice (must be i897 based because u r running an i897 firmware. [there is a modem stickied thread in the Dev forum]), connect ur phone to ur pc in Download mode and select Start. Modem will get flashed. Phone will reboot and u r done.
Or if u r running corn kernel that has cwm recovery, u can simply flash ur "cwm modem.zip" file through said recovery.
There are probably several videos on the youtube that u could check out. (i made a short tutorual a long time ago. Look in my signature link below if u r on a pc, there is a link to it there, as well as other videos).
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
thanks! I'll try some of those modems ... by any chance do you know which one will work better @ CT ? And how do I go back if the modem that I install doesn't work ??
There is a map in that modem thread that shows where people have posted where they live and a good workin modem for their area.
And u can go back to the original modem just like u flash any other modem.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I think that I'm doing something wrong cause i don't see any pins in the map ... I'll check it later ... But I really appreciate all your help ...
Ok. I've tried different modems and still doesn't find any satellites. It's strange. Is it possible that my gps is just not operational?

Hello all. If you are as tired of this ODIN method as i am, than you on the same boat. This sucks. But its all we have. So i have made a visual guide to odin. Attached below. Its a JPEG. Feel free to download it, rather than flip from pages to pages to find it. Thanks again. Any other requests please email me [email protected]
Here goes.
REMEMBER PEOPLE I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DECIDE TO BLOW UP THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL, WARS, FIGHTS, and in NO WAY responsible for bricking if
Trust me, i have been in this scene 2 years now, since the g1, and i can bet that this phone will continue to blow peoples minds with its capabilities. This ODIN, is pre-historic. But the best way. I know there are 45 other flashing programs, guides, but none of them helped me like i bet this will help you. If you need any more screenshots of the process shoot me an email, or gtalk. Thanks again guys/girs.

Glad i could help guys. Anything else, let me know.

Thanks Groid!
I have not used Odin yet as I am new to Android, but I am positive I will at some point.
One thing that would really help this guide would be all the necessary files that you reference. I know they can be found via a search.... but it can be pretty nerv-racking when trying what you need when your device is dying.
Just a suggestion.
Thanks/ Andrew/
You might wanna also add that you need to remove both your sim card and memory card in order for Odin to flash your phone.

+1 It is not necessary to have odin flash your kernel.
maybe mixed results? for me, i cant flash back to stock nor can i flash the kernal without removing both sim and memory card. if i have the sim and memory card inserted it gets stuck at the "zimage" part.
I've had it stick there before too, but I usually just close odin, unplug my phone, open odin again, and plug my phone in again. usually after that it works

They say so, i do, but once did with them in, and i was okay. But better to be safe than sorry.
And i will be posting the links to the various files, or the page that has the linkage, it is in the Bible along with this guide. Anything else let me know.

Thanks for this. While I felt like I had the steps in my head right for flashing ODIN...It was super helpful to have a pic reference.
does anyone know what the differences are between the 512 pit file and the 803 pit file floating around? Im assuming there different partition size layouts but whats the deal? I guess people have flashed the 803 pit file and it works the same as the 512 but what really changes i have yet to find??
please delete. answer found.
You justg saved my butter! My Bionix butter that is. Thanks guys, you guys are the best
the difference i do know is that the 803 pit file changes your entire system, and the way it runs. It sets it up differently, thats why you need it for generally most Froyo's or deviations of the i9000 2.2 (803.pit).
So other than a number, and a file system change .. not a thing
This was working just fine until I installed Master Rom 1.1 Now I can't use Odin. It'll load like it always did, I go to download mode and get everything set right on Odin and it Go and then it hangs. I've tried this process now 20 times to no avail. Any ideas what's hanging it up?

Hello people,
I have just updated my SGS from Foryo 2.2 JPP to 2.2.1 JPY with Kies and Registry patch using XEU product code.
But now i have a problem with the GPS fixing, using GPS Status, it's find around 6-10 satellites in my area, but it takes very long time to fix on around 15 min or so.
Try to get an answer for my problem, i found that changing the pool server for my country or for europe my solve the fixing issue. Now the pool server is set on north america by default, i want to change it to europe.
Is there any way to edit gps.conf without to have to root my phone? Some kind of update.zip file to install in Recovery mode?
Thanks in advance and I'm sorry if i posted in the wrong area.
No ideas for me.. maybe with ADB but i'm not sure.
You can root your phone with z4root.. and unroot it after if you want
I don't think z4root is working on JPY. But the idea is not to root my phone, cause i can simply go and root it with CF-Root.
I'm trying to find a way to work around.
There's no way. In Eclair, you could get around that using update.zip with recovery 2e, but that's not possible with recovery 3e. If without root, you can just go messing around with system files, that would be security failure. So you need root, if only temporarily, to edit it.
Z4root non permanent root?

I think you can do it from the SGS Tools application, there's somehing like gps fix that changes the conf
I had the same issue with Froyo 2.2 on my SGS, and i solved the problem using the app GPSbooster. Now the fix it's very fast (about 20-25 sec.) and the signal it's quite stable.
The app cost it's 1,99€ and you can find on the market.
P.S: before to purchase the app, try the free version and see if work for your device ( i have done in this way).

My mistake .
I actually edit the gps .conf file myself before flashing the rom as even the official UK firmware that came with the phone had usa nt pool .
jje
Playing with the settings under LbsTestMode, i managed to make it fix for a while but it's still really unstable. Sometime it's fix right away, in about 5 sec. Sometime it's take ages to fix
I think the only solution for now is to modify some how the gps.conf file.
Could you post which gps settings you use? Standalone/ms-based?
Im using MS-Based now, but is almost the same with Standalone, maybe MS-based it is a lilttle better.
The only way I can see you being able to do it is with adb push

2016! OMG hope it helps
Yes, u can do it! with ADB and Custom Recovery without any root permission or app.
start your phone on recovery mode, in TWRP go to Mount and check SYSTEM, leave it checked and go back. Now in advanced, file manager you can change or delete any file.
Just put the files you need in you Ext-SD and then copy/paste. Always backup before changing anything.
Here i try to upload 2 gps.conf files working for xperia z1 C6903 with stock rom-non rooted. and Samsung galaxy S3 Sgh-I747 with CM 13.1 rooted. (but i cant because i'm a new user)

Because you cant push a launcher or get into any settings menu, my only suggestion would be to flash a new rom. And assuming that the rom you just flashed (being completely stock), you wont have the 3 button combo although I suggest you try it. (Im not sure about the combos for 2.2 roms).
If you cant get into recovery/download through any method, my next suggestion is to buy/build a JIG and force your device into download mode, by which you can use ODIN to flash a rom.
You can make a jig for about a dollar or buy one for about 10. (Best purchase i made). Just take a look around the forums for more info on this.
yes i can get into where it says reboot system now, reinstall packages delete data ya know. not much experiance
and i can still get the usb modes when i plug in usb. kies media player mass storage.just an amature
Not sure if it would work...but odin3 v1.0 had a option for enable debug .could he just do that? Then adb push /system/app/launcher.apk? See pic

Be careful when flashing ROMS, be certain to read the instructions carefully and read the thread too, usually you will find all the information you need, any problems to expect and how to recover from these problems. Good Luck and happy flashing!
