[Q] DT's a2sd on cm7 - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hey guys, I just recently switched from Galaxy Y to Galaxy Mini and I flashed cm7 last night. How can I use DT's a2sd on cm7? and anyone have the zip cuz the link from DT's is broken. Thanks.

Try s2e (simple2extension)
search for it in the market, it's free
only works on cm7 roms
works as well as dt's a2sd
you can use rom manager to partition your sd card
just don't move app data to sd, that will slow your phone way down

Thats what I'm using right now, I'm just used to DT's. Thanks bro.

[Q] Darktremor apps2sd problem

I followed the instructions on this site and did a 2GB partition. I downloaded the a2sd app from the Android Market and moved the Dalvik cache to SD-EXT. It seems to be working because on the A2SDGUI app, it is showing "Apps are on SD!" and "Dalvik Cache on SD-EXT".
I seem to be able to download a lot of small apps from the Android Market without any problem. However, when it comes to larger apps such as Angry Birds and Pocket Legends, this is the error I'm receiving: There is insufficient space on the device.
I have a Samsung 8GB Class 6 micro-SD Card with almost 2GB free space left. Here is a Screenshot of the System Info on the A2SDGUI app. I'm supposed to be having a 2GB partition but it is not being recognized for some reason. But I do not know if that is normal.
I'm using Squadzone's latest CM7 RC5 with all the 3 updates.
That's because your /cache partition stays the same - ~25MB.
1) You can use this script: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/45530921/30mountcache.txt
(Put it in /system/etc/init.d/ and set persmissions, allow execute - do backup... just in case!)
2) Or you can use Amarullz or Ungaze scripts.

So, if I use the script you provided, I will not have to disable Darktremor's a2sd and reflash the rom?
If yes, I will have to:
1) Download the "30mountcache.txt" to sd card.
2) Move to /system/etc/init.d
3) Rename it to just "30mountcache".
4) Set permission for Owner/Group/Others to execute.
5) Reboot.
I'm not very good at this.
30mountcache will not disable your a2sd. Put it there, rename, permissions and done
It's working. Thanks.

[Q] Partitioning and CM

Hi,
I constantly run into "not enough space" problems and the phone starts to get really slow due to this.
So I tried everything possible with my rooted nexus, removed apps with Titanium and so on.
But to no use, Dalvik Cache alone is over 60MB.
So I read that you can partition your SD-Card and move stuff from the phone over like the cache and app-storage.
Also I want to install CM for the first time cause I like to have additional options with the kind of kernel. Like support for battery calibration.
I'm a bit unsure about all this.
How many partitions do I have to create on my card?
What size should they be? (card is 16 GB)
How do I install CM with all this so it uses the partitions?
Is there a DAU step-by-step tutorial for this you can recommend?
Usually a 1GB ext4 partition would suffice. Some use smaller, some bigger, but 1GB is about average.
You can use Gparted to format it if using Linux. Otherwise I'd recommend installing 4ext recovery on your Nexus and use that to partition your SD Card. You could also use Amon Ra recovery if you have it, but avoid using cwm recovery to partition as it can cause corruption.
Finally what version of CM are you using? If BCM CM9 then that has mounts2sd built in.
If CM7 then you can try a multiple of options, including s2e, links2sd, darktreamer or even mounts2sd.
Everyone has their favourite, but I'd recommend you start with s2e which you can download from Google Play. It has a handy GUI.
Ensure you take a full backup of your card before partitioning it. Especially unsure you have good backups of your photos and music.
I use titanium backup for backing up apps. Use this before backing up your SD Card, so that your backup contains it.

Thanks for your reply.
It is my productive phone so I need a stable and fast rom.
Thus I plan to use the latest stable cm which happens to be 7.2 if I'm right.
I'm running Ubuntu on my desktop so I will def. use gparted
So do I get that right:
- wipe my card and partition it with gp
- then wipe my phone and flash CM7.2
- then install s2e (or else) and setup to use the partition

That's right, but imo it would be easier if you install another recovery and do all steps directly from your phone. Also its not necessary but recommended to fully wipe your card, you can just create the ext partition and maintain the other things you have.
what recovery can do all this?
There are lot of them, but I like 4Ext recovery
Okay what I actually did was:
- install ROM Manager
- install clockworkmod
- install Cyanogen via ROM Manager
- clear all caches and storages via the clockworkmod
- partition via clockworkmod (no swap)
- reformat the partition from ext3 to ext4
- install s2e
- choose mount-to-ext4
- reboot
- select what to move (no download cache)
Thanks to all!

Try do download an app from Google Play or update an app when using S2E and see you have any problem (e.g., reboot or can't update error message). I had problems with S2E when using CM7.

I really recommend you to stay away from Clockwork. I had a lot of problems with partitioning.
I thought I was a faulty SD Card ,so I threw it away but I was the recovery fault.
I have been using 4EXT Recovery for a while now and I still have encounter my first problem.

Yes I read that too somewhere else, that is why I formatted with gparted again.
Works fine so far, no problems.
i can't restore a file back up (back up by 4EXT) by CWM 5.0.0.2.
It don't work "restoring sd-ext....."
Use 4ext recovery to restore your 4ext backup

Still works good except it killed my 16GB card. I'm now on a 8GB. Hope it doesn't die too.

[Q] why i cant use S2E with Democracy rom?

everytime that i use S2E the phone restart everything good but when i have to install an .apk file the phone restart itself and when i flash a2sdgui script the phone does not start :S what i have to do? thx... and sorry for my english
You could try something else.
What you will need: root, ROM with initd folder (like democracy), sd card (class 4 or better) with ext partition
1. Download this: http://d-h.st/1zz and put it on the root of your sd card so you can flash it.
2. Reflash the ROM of your choice (after full wipe)
3. Reboot and wait for the sd card check to finish
4. Reboot to recovery and mount data, system, and sd ext
5. Flash downloaded file (cronmod d2ext+)
6. Reboot system now
7. If you have to flash gapps or anything else you can do it now (after sd card is finished loading and error checking.)
8. Never worry about internal memory errors again! Don't worry about moving apps, linking apps, or anything, just enjoy your ace.

As you can see the step 17 is mount data. Why did you reboot system? Maybe the installation aborted because you didnt mount data & mount system as abhi922 instructed. If you didnt found mount data or mount system option in cwm, maybe youre using old cwm. Try using cwm from mindcr rom thread.

Well, let's start!
You should be root and you should have CWM 5.0.2.6 Fixed flashed
Code:
1. You'll need a coustom rom or a stock with a custom kernel (to get init.d support folder)
2. Your sdcard should be partitioned, use partition magictools to do it.
3. When you'll get It ready, download int2script in the link I posted avobe
4. Boot into recovery
5. Mount and system >>> mount /system
5. Mount and system >>> mount /data
6. Mount and system >>> mount /sd-ext
7. Mount and system >>> format sd-ext
8. Go back and install the zip
9. Reboot
10. Done!
BE CAREFUL FORMATING THE SD-EXT AND NOT YOUR SD CARD!!!
