I cant tell you how frustrated I am with this phone! I HATE IT! Ughhh.....
Sorry had to get that out.
Anyways I have been trying to configure some tweaks this past eekend with my phone. I used the Smurf tweak pack and really liked it. The only problem I didnt really know how to configure the settings optimally. Basically Im running into the problem where whenever I reboot my phone it is fast as lightning, then as time goes on throughout the day it gets soooooo slow and unusable. The only way to fix it is a reboot. Any way to fix this, maybe I should try another tweak?
Settings
What settings did you use on your revo for the speed and heap size? I originally had the same problem as you after using the script, however after following the advice of another user on here, I changed my speed size to "light speed" and my heap size to 128 mb. My phone has since been running very smoothly with these settings.
Also, have you tried any other scripts like thunderbolt? That is another script that I really like and has made my phone much better.
Hmmm I did the Ludicrous speed with a 64mb threshold! I will try and change the settings. Should I wipe data before changing the settings?
You don't have to. Can't hurt and it would give a baseline to know exactly what settings work. I do a cwm backup then wipe then do the dew. but remember every phone is different. my wifes phone likes light speed and 128. my revo likes ridiculous, iirc the one above light speed, and 64.

How do I know if my sd is EXT 4 formatted?
I've always said no. Iirc, I read somewhere that for ics everything had to be ext4 and the Revo wasn't. Idk I could be wrong either way I said no and it set the default sd read speed to the 4XXX. At least that's what ROM toolbox says it just saved me from having to set it manually.

I've been using CM6 for a little while now. I had a huge problem with the battery life, but that somehow just went away on its own and now I'm having just one major issue.
Over time it slows down a ton. I can barely take calls, I can't use some apps just because of how slow everything gets, I get some force close errors, etc.
Eventually it gets so bad that I have to reboot the phone, and then everything is nice and fast. But I have to reboot at least once or twice a day for normal use, and I don't see that it's necessary.
Is there any way I can find out what's slowing down my phone, or any way to fix it? I didn't get this problem in CM 508. It was slow, but it didn't get slower.
My exact ROM is CyanogenMod-6-09232010-NIGHTLY-DS
Only two questions to you:
1) Why do you use nightly builds if you want a stable OS?
2) Do you have swap enabled (which I expect, you have)? Read about swap space and thrashing, I expect this will answer your question.

I figured it was far enough along that it wouldn't be an issue
I don't have swap enabled
If you don't have swap enabled, you should try to clean caches. Go into menu / application management and order applications by size. Try cleaning caches, especially GenieWidget, Market, Browser, ... Most likely it will help

hey!
i can think on 3 things you can try...
1)Get swap enabled
2)set a bigger swap
3)try the above with a new card (make sure you buy a fast one category 6 i think they are called)
good luck
Im having speed problems also i might go back to a donut rom
Hi, im new to rooting but i have a question about music players and my rooted hero. I'm running aospCMod latest version with everything updated. My phone has only been rooted for a week but it just started happening yesterday.
The music player im using is called SongBird Beta, its a new player that might not run friendly with rooted devices but it was working till yesterday, and i've had to force close the app or pull my battery because my phone wouldn't respond. i WOULD post this in the aosp thread but i dont have enough posts lol..
is it just the app or is it my rooted phone?
I'm also running aospCMod and alot of times the devs will tell you to raise the minimum cpu setting from 176 to 264 or 352 and try it. It usually fixes the problem. Check under settings -> cm settings -> performance.

I am also having those troubles. (older version, newer version)Pandora, Music Player and Double twist. Through Bluetooth, head phones and speaker. Skip, Freeze you name it. I have tried raising/lowering the settings and that has netted me the same result. Performance, Interactive, Ondemand, Userspace.... Tried it. Jit on and off... tried it. Flash, reflash, format, reflash... tried it. I am going to go through my notes today and try to flash a sense rom and do the media card scan fix to see if that works. IDK... Could be just the end of the Hero's life for me.

Try reflashing your recovery if you have not already. Try a new/different sd/card. Also you can try a nand of a rom were you weren't having the problems and TB the app+data then restoring it to your current rom. Also you can try a fastboot erase system if your s-off to have a definite clean start. "Warning" fastboot will erase everything. That's if you haven't tried it already. Well good luck
Yea it's Me Again With The
Modified Hero
Thanks Laie!
I did flash AOSP's latest recovery then back to Jason's then to the original 3.0.0.5 and back to AOSP's latest. Funny thing for me is that Pandora will play for about 5-10 songs then is will chop and freeze the phone. After a battery pull the Pandora is choppy but wont freeze the phone up until later. So I cleared cache, tried uninstalling and reinstalling and Nand. Same deal. I am going to test my songs on the SD card next just to be sure.
Then, new card. Phew.... This is fun... I am having fun... I think.
So question with regard to the streaming of Pandora. Is there a timeout setting for the phone to go wonky on Data? I am now wondering if the 3G or Data is dropping the ball. The screen sleeps fine and music continues. Then after about 10min (on average) it skips and locks the phone. I have sync and bluetooth disabled for now. Hooked up to the head phones.
692/276 no jit no frills. Hell I didn't even configure my mail yet.
Hmmm..
Figured I would isolate one issue at a time. Sorry for the hyjack of the thread OP. Maybe this will help you too.
Make sure you don't have a task killer running that's killing it off. I personally don't use them. They kill apps I'm running and eat up more battery imo. Just food for thought that one could be set too aggressive.

Good suggestion but not using any either.
There is a setting in pandora to keep it happy, can't remember what it's called, but it's there. I also can tell you if you tried ondemand again, it would work. Also raising the min to 352 no matter the governor. Both of those methods have worked time and time again, try it. Edit: also, the new "purge assets", or vm heap, or compcache setting could affect it, but I doubt that's the issue.
I used fastboot reset device and let it reboot. Turned on Pandora and it's been playing strong for 45Mins. Here is run down.
Re partitioned 4 times using 1GB, 2GB, 4GB then back to 1GB. 256Ext size always. Re flashed fresh. Interactive 691/264 no jit. Crashed once. Rebooted, reset using fastboot, reboot and it has been playing through headphones for 50 Min now. Bluetooth is the next test. Thanks Duce and Laie.
I will add this is the first time in about 3 weeks I have been live for longer than 30 Mins. I tried CM7's and AOSP's. Much prefer AOSP's, less bloat and Zeam are a must for me.
EDIT: 1 Hour Headphones, VanHalen Channel
My plays stable with 19-691ondemand

k im gonna try setting the cpu setting up, thanks for that suggestion.
and has anyone got the equalizer to work right? it seems to not work very well on the hero lol
I don;t know what is wrong with my captivate.
I have flashed a lot of roms and no matter what I am having this issue.. I install a ROM, set up only my email, and only 1 or two apps.. nothing special
and everything seems to be slow and laggy and just not very usable.
any ideas on what I can do , my last resort is to try to install just a stock rom and see what happens.
its getting me pretty mad really.
ideas, help, i have searched and found this issue with other phones, but not with the captivate.
Hmm weird, probably try getting back to stock and then master clear and then again flash back to the rom of your choice.....!
note:master clear will delete everything on your internal memory card make a backup of imp data before clearing.
Try installing a cutting edge rom with voodoo lagfix. If this doesn't work, you can always just send it back to At&t for a new one if your warranty is still valid.
Its always a good idea to ODIN back to stock and/or Wiping data, cahce and Dalvid cache a few times.
How slow is slow? Quadrant is not always the most useful, but it might be nice to know what your score is for the sake of a baseline.
Just fyi, my current setup gets me around 1700, but stock was pretty solid at 975. If you are getting decent scores, then try using a system monitor to see if a service or app is chewing up your CPU cycles. If your scores are very low, then you may have a lemon.

it just seems laggy and almost unusable. example: a compleatly clean phone with no data but Gmail set up, when i go into the market it seems really slow to load the market, then i insall Facebook, its slow as hell, laggy no matter what i do.
there is nothing installed on the phone
i will try odin back to 2.2 stock and see what happens.
SuperCharger made a huge speed difference for me. Unfortunately I still have occasional stability issues, so I'm considering installing ThunderBolt!, which uses Supercharger's script but with their own LMK/ADJ/OOM.
Hello Community!!
I am seeing a problem with my Revo, and I'm putting it out here because you guys are good at finding answers.
I am running Gingervolt 1.3 with the blitzkreig kernel installed. I have previously tried Hicks' little ICS responsiveness script.
Here is my problem. Most days after little to moderate use, Phone/text, I have to reboot my phone by either soft reboot (power button) or a hard reboot (battery pull) because nothing at all is responding. By nothing I mean, touch the screen..nothing, open a program...nothing...etc.
It is a slow degrade sometimes where (and my wife has mentioned it using my phone) that the touch screen is really really laggy and non responsive, especially when using a keyboard or even trying to play angry birds.
I have done a full wipe including data, cache, dalvik. I have formatted my internal and removable SD card, I have not used previous backups, instead resorted to downloading programs and installing from scratch.
This is a very frustrating issue. If it was a computer I'd say either the processor was overworking, or the ram was used up. But since we don't use program killers in GB I'm kind of at a loss. And I'm tired of having to wipe my phone every few days just so I have meh performance (and no, I'm not hating on the phone, or the rom or any of the developers, nor do I have any interest in changing phones, etc)
I'm just looking for suggestions/solutions etc. I'm sure I missed something in my troubleshooting steps.
Thanks in advance for those who read through this and try to give a hand. I appreciate it.
Wow. Since you've already gone to extreme measures, I'm at a loss. My suggestion would be to freeze the apps you do install to look for a culprit there. Or, don't install any and see how the phone performs.
I restored a nandroid prior to Google's 10ยข apps promo and my phone is back in fine form. It was lagging badly before that. I was rebooting daily. Now I go for days and the phone's solid.

I was experiencing similar issues about a week after updating to blitzkrieg 1.0. I restored from backup and it's been stable since. I just installed 2.0 today, so I'm curious to see if it'll have the same effect.

I can't say yet whether or not 2.0 has added to or taken away from the response type issues. I did have to do a couple of battery pulls yesterday just to get firefox to do anything. I'm going to uninstall that one. I may, just for S&G's do one more factory wipe and put all the tweaks and mods in place before downloading anything but the most essential programs. I did this phone, but the unresponsiveness sometimes can be a real pain.
What do you have it clocked at? I have issues at 1.9 so maybe back it down a bit. I get lots of screen freezes and have had some rebooting issues at 1.9

Currently I have it at 1.7, before when it was really bad, the oc wasn't sticking and I was at 1024, so not overclocked much. I am sure its an app that is causing the problem, but I'm not sure what.
I've never had this type of issue using Blietzkreig or any of the other tweaks so I'd guess you're right in thinking it's an app. Since you've pretty much tried everything else I would say maybe try going back to complete stock then rooting again? That just seems like what I would try if I had tried everything else and nothing worked.
And yeah you definitely don't want to overclock too much because it could definitely damage the hardware of your phone since it's not meant to run at that level. But you said you had it at 1.0ghz so it doesn't seem like that is the problem unless the damage was cause when running at 1.7ghz. I had mine at 1.9 and didn't see any issues except my phone randomly started to vibrate for a while then just restart. It did that twice when i first flashed everything but it seems fine now. I brought it down to 1.0ghz just cuz i'm not really using it now and I don't want it causing any problems with the hardware.
Thanks for the Feedback everyone. I am not sure what the issue is/was/going to be. I think Firefox was a big part of it and I have since removed it. But I am still getting random freezes, almost like the deep sleep while the screen is on. Oh well, maybe I do need to go back to complete stock.
Hello guys, it is great to finally find some place like this online!!!
I have a LG Revolution by Veriwon Wireless, and as you can see in my nickname, I really hate LG Revolution because I cannot delete any of stupid bloatwares that have been installed on my phone nor call or go to different menus within two seconds.
The phone is getting slower and slower and I'm almost about to have a mental breakage... I once thought about throwing this #$#$ out and get a free, txt and camera (no video) only LG Glare or something....
Guys do not direct me to weird codes and all that but can any of you here help me through the process of rooting the phone and putting? flashing? the ROM please? T^T
I once tried to do one-touch rooting or whatever but my phone kept on connecting back and forth while after I ran the one-touch rooting program.. and nothing worked. My phone is just too slow to do anything and it takes 5 seconds to actually go to a call function.
I paid freakin 300 for this and I wanna get some use of it.....
How do I root this and put on gingervolt or whatever???? T^T
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SAVE THIS POOR KID!! T^T
And just FYI.. I have a Windows 7 64bit Desktop which I tried to root my phone with but ended up failing.

Sounds like this is your first smart phone. To try and help speed out and stuff get Advanced Task Killer this will help kill the apps once you're done using them. Use the link the guy above me provided to root it once you're done You'll be able to get into CWM once you're in there make a Backup before you do anything. Once you're there then you can install a ROM such as GingerVolt which the link for this is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326542 For the first couple of days after you've flashed GingerVolt your battery life won't be as good as it is now until the Phone is use to the new settings which you should notice more battery life once this is done sometimes worse.
Yeah, root it (follow directions EXACTLY !!!), and then Gingervolt it. NO Bloatware & once you have done both, you will have the confidence to use the Stock app installer to replace anything from the stock ROM that you want to.
Ed
I did mine for the first time last week and if you follow the directions its a snap. You will be amazed at how the phone will perform one you install gingervolt rom.
Just be patient and follow every step. Don't be like me and forget to put the phone into USB De-Bugging and Internet Connection.
Welcome. This is a great forums, and most people are here to help. Good luck with rooting, as mentioned, if you follow directions to the letter it is very hard to break anything...and if you do, these guys are awesome at getting your phone back and running in no time at all....

Follow this, except don't use a task killer. It will actually just kill performance because your phone will just restart everything the task killer closes, which drains the battery and lowers performance. Task killers are evil and for people who don't understand how android drops apps into inactive mode when they're not displayed on screen and doesn't use much of the phone resources (unless of course the program has been killed and the phone has to actively restart it).

It all depends on the permissions that are set for the app. Like I play Cut the Rope on my phone once I'm done I'll kill it with my task killer but it won't restart itself since the permissions aren't set to re-run the app once it's killed.
If worried about apps restarting get Gemini and change the startup permission. Have to be rooted though.

I'm not worried about them restarting, because 90% of the apps that a task killer would kill are apps that I use on a regular basis anyway, so they would be restarted by me launching the app. My point was that if a program isn't on the screen, it's dumped into the memory and remains idle until you go to use it. It uses very little phone resources, so killing the apps doesn't improve your phone much. Using gemini prevents apps from starting automatically, but they start and continue to run when you open them. But since it wasn't idle in the background, certain apps take forever to start, and that's even more annoying. Bottom line, root your phone, add GV2.0, don't use task killers or gemini. They're just a hassle, drain your battery, and provide no improvement to your phone.
I still use GV and my phone starts to get laggy. I use Gemini to kill apps and clear my cache alot.

I posit that doing that is why your phone gets laggy. I'm on gv2.0 with zram enabled and using rom toolbox pro to set min/Max to 245/1501 with smartass governor, and i have had 0 lag since flashing 2.0. I flashed it within a few hours of MT posting it too

My phone isn't laggy at all and I use task killers to kill apps frequently on a daily basis. I'm on GV2.0 1501/546 or something not sure of the exact number for min. But my phone runs perfectly fine when I kill apps with a task manager.
Anybody recommend a certain app to set Cpu with that's free?
So after you are rooted, and swap out your ROM with something decent, then lastly I suggest a name change...
