Is there a way to change where the ICS Camera saves its images to, preferably to the external SD card? There's no option in the camera itself. Is there a hack?
There is. Change Storage from "Phone" to "Memory card" in Camera Settings.

I'm referring to the stock ICS camera that comes with an AOSP rom, not the Samsung supplied camera. If there's a setting in the stock ICS camera, I'm not seeing it.
I have an AOSP ROM and I can't find the default storage for the camera. I know that the images goes to my Internal Memory but when I removed my SD Card, the camera won't work because it cant detect my SD Card.
Update:
After posting my answer to your query, I check my camera app again and somehow I got the asnwer. Change your mode to Video. Then the settings for the storage is in it. I choose mine from SD Card to Internal. However you still need the SD Card for it to work. The system requires an SD Card first inorder to function.

Yes you are right that there is no option in Camera Setting of Android 4.0 ICS. Answers in many forums about this problem are wrong that " Go to settings and change storage location" .... this can not be achieved in ICS 4.0.
But solution exist. Just delete DCIM Folder from internal storage and remove SD Card from mobile. Go to camera and take the snap.... this time it will store in internal storage bcz there is no SD Card. In the 2nd step .... switch your mobile off and insert SD Card into mobile. Switch on your mobile and now take the snap. This time Android OS will take this newly installed memory (SD Card)as its default location. Check this trick....

when i tried taking a picture using the main camera yesterday it said something like "camera failed to capture image" i finally got it to take a picture by selected the internal memory so it looks like its something to do with the external card. i can save other files (such as mp3s) and use them fine. is there a special folder that needs to be made on the external card or has someone heard of this problem before? ive got the R2A generic rom that recently came out. thanks
usually the phone creates a folder /Storage Card/DCIM/100XPRIA. Try to create it manually if it doesn't happen.
yeh ive got that folder. actually, ill try deleting it, possibly its got corrupted or something. ive never tried taking a picture before so dont know if its something thats happened after i put on the new rom
EDIT
lol that seemed to of done the trick! i deleted it and now it works.
have the same problem using the R2 rom .... could somebody help? tried the above
it's only happen to me after changing from 4gb to 16gb card. I think something to do with memory card.
i have a 16gb card too. i set the camera to save to the internal memory, then deleted the folder from the memory card, then set the camera to save to the memory card and let it create a new folder. it then worked fine.

How can you change it to save to the memory card?
Kind regards
Just look in the settings of the camera itself. It is ajustable to storage card among other options.
I had the same problem - fixed it by formatting the card something must of got corrupt
Hello all,
I'm new to this forum
I had Darky Rom (android 3.2) and just went to Slim ICS (android 4.0.4), after installing CM 9 nightly build.
But on both ROMs I can't seem to mount the sd card. Sorry if this has been asked before. Am I doing something wrong?
File manager says "this folder is empty" and camera says "mount usb storage before using this camera." but when going to the settings and mounting it. It says "Preparing SD card", but then nothing happens and everything stays gray.
So basically my external sd doesn't get mounted and I can't access it. (also I can't view the files of my internal sd if I'm not wrong?)
In ICS roms EMMC is your external SD card.
Thanks! Found it
Another question:
So this sd card is in another folder now. But what about the apps that access it? They say I have no sd storage now. Like the contacts app of Google, when I want to import my contacts. Or the camera app.. Read somewhere this was a general problem. But how is everyone using this mod then if this doesnt work?
Well a lot of apps have updated so it does work definetly not all though. In some ICS roms like ics333 I can pick where my camera saves to within the camera app (it calls it sd card still but saves to emmc. I would just search with google if you are looking at a fix for it. I know there was some sort of fix for Game Loft apps that I read. I also read there was a mount SD as internal storage type fix. I just haven't needed it. There has to be other fixes but might be rom specific. I haven't used any of these fixes so can't help further with that
Thanks Shooper! I think the issue is different here. For more info I made a new topic about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657623
How do i change the storage location of the pictures i take with the android 4.2? The camera settings don't show where i can do this. I want to change the storage location to external sd card instead of internal
Thank you

Hi, everyone.
I have a question if somebody is able to copy or move applications to external sd card either with rooted stock or custom rom. What applications or mods did you do to enable such option?

Im having the same problem as well. my Internal storage is half way getting there and None of the apps that I installed does not have the option to be transferred to ext_SD
Ok, after 2 days of searching over the web and forums I found a workaround for moving apps on external SD (working only on rooted phones).
1) Download and install FolderMount program from Google Play store.
2) Open the program, tap on "+", enter name (any alias), source folder of the app, and destination (external sd with the same folder already created or choose automatic method), then tap on check mark.
3) Wait till the program copies the application to external sd and creates link. After you need to tap on pin icon and it'll turn to green.
If you get some notification, just click "Yes".
P.S.
Don't delete the folder with the moved app in your internal memory, as it'll also delete the app from external SD. If you want to check if the program moved, unpin the program and browse to the app folder in your internal memory and you won't see the files there. FolderMount creates the link to the application in internal memory to trick Android. Every time Android requests the application, it passes the request to its internal memory and after goes via the link to external SD. That is the only trick that worked for me.
I read on the butterfly 901s/e forum thread and it said something about fat32
I have Kingston 64gb formated in FAT32, don't know if Android works properly with exFAT or ext format. You can't format 64gb SD card in FAT32 with Windows, but you can install other partition wizards like Minitool Partition Wizard to format it.
Does the old setinstalllocation trick work here?

If you mean "set pm install location" command, then no. I tried that trick, however programs didn't even install on internal memory after I used the command. I left it as default "0".

Thanks a lot. I think I can do everything I need to do with foldermount so it should all work out.
Also got a 70mbps read SD card! Phone comes in later today!
Does the micro SDXC work in the butterfly s
Sent from my HTC Butterfly using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes, works with microSDXC up to 64gb in FAT32, couldn't manage to use external sd card in other formats like exFAT or NTFS.
Hi, I can't post in the dedicated forum yet but maybe my question can be raised here:
I flashed the "Switch SD" Mackay kernel ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2532813 ) on top of the normal one and indeed my external SD card of 32Gb shows up as "USB-Storage" and all apps seem to work OK.
In the proces the original internal storage has gone missing, how do I get it back?

I don't think you can get it back. I've never used the Switch SD kernel but I think the whole point of it is to replace the internal card with your external card. If that is the case then the internal card might stop working.

In recovery mode the internal card is visible and can be mounted via usb but in normal mode the only thing present is the external 32 gb card.
there must be a way to make use of both but in reverse order.

Maybe it's something wrong with fstab.aries. If that's the case then you can't do anything because changes to fstab.aries are done before compiling the kernel. Ask kasper_h about this. He might be able to help you.
