Hi Guys,
I was trying to update my rom some days ago and something went wrong, my phone was bricked. Now every time I try to flash a rom, I keep getting can't mount errors.
I have tried pretty much every method for fixing these, but every time I fix one error, another pops up, and it goes in a circle.
For example, I was getting can't mount /data, dev/block/stl10, can't mount mmcblk0pa, and soon. I tried installing a kernel, flashing different roms, flashing stock roms, repartitioning, not repartitioning, I installed a kernel with CWM Reovery and that worked well enough, but when I flash it goes back to the can't mount errors, any help is appreciated.
Have you tried going back to stock via Odin?
I have tried many stock roms (At least I think they are stock), same problem.
Had this problem to! I always flashed with odin. But when i flashed with Heimdall that issue dissapeared.
Dont know how but it helped for me!

Ok, I've been trying different things and now I keep getting this error no matter what I install, please help, this is getting very frustrating, no phone for a whole week.

Probably best to flash stock GB using odin and pit file. If you have download mode, you should be good.

I've tried flashing stock roms many times, no result, can you guys suggest some? The last thing I did was put CM9 and Slim ICS Rom, and that worked, then I tried to reflash and it died.
Also, I went to format everything cuz I thought that may solve the problem (/format data, /format emmc, etc) if that help give any clues.
Right now I tried Darky Rom Resurrection 10.2, it goes through but I still get:
Installing Multi-CSC…
Can’t access to ‘/system/csc/XSG/system/’.

then it loops if I restart, clearing data / cache didn't help.

/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 is your data partition
I have had this issue before.
The way I resolved the issue was to flash stock (darky 10.2 will do) WITH PIT file and Partition ticked. If this fails try the stock rom for your phone/carrier/region from samfirmware.
You can't keep trying the same ROM/Firmware expecting a different result
Once I was back on Darky's I flashed to the ROM of my choosing

Hi guys,
just to preface I have read through the readme's and done searches but I can't seem to find a fix for my problem.
Was originally on JH2 and flashed via ODIN to JM8 successfully with the intent of getting to JPM. When trying to flash JPM it freezes about halfway and fails, however reflashing JM8 via download mode/odin works again. I also noticed that somewhere along the line i've screwed up my recovery mode somehow getting the errors:
multicsc:can not access to /system/csc/OPS/system
and
can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (invalid argument)
what do these errors mean...and how can I fix them?
Currently JM8 works, but I can't use recovery to wipe data/factory reset or wipe cache partition.
I've tried flashing without the re-partition but to no avail.
I feel as if fixing this can get me onto froyo.
Sorry but i'm a bit of a noob at this, got this far through extensive reading.
If not specifically answering my question could you at least please direct me to the right sources/threads which can help with my dilemma?
cheers
Try clockwork mod. With that factoryreset should be possible

worst time for this to happen, keep getting the android market download unsuccessful problem so can't download ROM manager. Any other way to get the apps onto my phone without the market?
ALso, how is this lkely to fix my recovery mode issue when it seems the current 3button recovery mode is already screwed up?
U should flash a kernel that includes cwm. Like 'superoptimized jp6-jpm kernel' that should enable recovery again.

My problem is really complicated. Things first: My phone didn't work for the last 3 months properly. I mean it booted and everything worked, but I could only update 3-6 apps and then I had a kind of lock (apps downloading, but no more installing). The solution for that was to go to CWM recovery and to clean cache, fix permissions and reboot. Now I could update the next apps until it locked again. Today I was really upset with that and tried some different things. I can go to download mode and CWM recovery (2.5.1.3) is still there but phone doesn't boot anymore. I can flash other firmwares with heimdall (using only linux) without errors, but the phone doesn't boot (stuck before the big S should come). If I go on CWM mount and storage I can't mount /system and /data, think thats my biggest problem right now. Is there any possibility to delete the whole SD card? I mean everything? Already tried flashing XWJS5 with repartition ticked, but it doesn't change anything. Tried now also to flash an old 2.1 firmware, no difference. Any idea how I can fix that problem (adb recognize the device)? Can't go to samsung centre because CWM is the recovery and they will know I rooted the phone...
Comprehension: Can flash other firmware with heimdall without errors, but the phone won't boot further then Galaxy S GT-I9000. The big S logo doesn't appear. In recovery can't mount /system and /sdcard
I tried already so many things, so I'm very happy for any advice!
Try flashing an older stock rom like jpy or js3 or your official rom, with repartition. As far as i know js5 rom is not a full package as jpy or js3 which also have the bootloaders. Those roms should also restore default recovery.

Reflash FULL firmware
*EDIT- rechecked the error code*
I'm pretty sure "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0" error = Bad SD Card
try to flash it back to stock so you get the I9000M splash and bring it back for service.
you can try, just make sure it's stock firmware:
flash a full firmware (pda/csc/phone/pit w/repartion), it might recognize the drive after re-boot.
good luck
flashed to JS3. updating now. Gonna see if it works again or if the installation bug is still there... Thanks for helping lilraindon
EDIT: Back on darky again. Problem is that my error still exist. Sometimes you can't update or install any new apps, needs to go to recovery and to wipe cache and fix permissions... Pretty annoying. Bought the phone in Germany and I'm now in Vienna Austria for studies. Do I need the warranty and bill (both in germany) or will they take it to repair without any of them? Can I sell this phone on ebay and buy from the money a Nexus S2?........ last one just kidding, just pretty annoyed my sd card is somehow broken. Any possibility (like an sgs tools script) to wipe cache, fix permissions and mount /data with phone on? With that I could live...
Hello all,
I have an issue with latest CWM 5.5.0.4 recovery. It says the following error:
E:Error in /cache/recovery/last_log
(Read-only file system)
and other similar errors:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
and I'm unable to reflash GalaxianSoup ROM nor restore the original backed up 3.2 factory rom.
What actually happened ?
Once bought, I managed to root, flash CWM 5.5.0.4 recovery and install the latest GalaxianSoup ROM. Everything based on the guides in development forum and successful (all latest versions). All cool! System was working fine.
Yesterday, I was using tablet, installed few apps, nothing special and later left tablet turned on and charging. When I came back, it was turned off. Okay, tried to turned on, but the system never booted and always looped (seeing only Google logo and moving gears). I rebooted into recovery and noticed the error (see above).
Now, I'm basically unable to do anything. I tried to wipe data, cache and Dalvik cache several times, and reflash GalaxianSoup again (Galaxian + Gapps) or also restore the 3.2 system backup that I've made (always fails).
I've read on some other forums that it might have something to do with damaged SD card partition or something.
I'm out of ideas. Can anyone help me pleeeeease?
EDIT: I've got european Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 16GB WIFI version.
EDIT: I must correct myself. After rolling back to factory rom, I was experiencing the same issues, seems there some hardware issue. I sent the tablet back for repair, seems now it had nothing to do with GalaxianSoup. No need to worry, keep up the good work.

Flash your recovery again through odin..
Then reflash your galaxian soup..
If not success, use odin and flash stock rom..
Dont forget backup your file from sdcard just in case if you need reset factory..

Flashing of CWM didn't help to fix the issue, installing of GalaxianSoup didnt work at all (corrupted ZIP file error...)
Thanks God, reflashing of stock ROM via Odin did work, tablet is up and running. GalaxianSoup is definitely not stable enough yet, I'll stick to the stock rom fora while. Thank you!

Galaxian Soup is more then stable enough. Bad flashes happen and you just said you had it up and running.

To be honest, it is kind of stable, but not enough, hence the beta label. Some further optimizing will be done once the team has ICS source. In my experience, it was stable, but sometimes it would turn off when in fell into Deep Sleep state. Now, the AOKP milestone 5 is giving me issues with the screen rotation. I've experienced both sides, AOSP and AOKP in their latest versions. Obviously there is more room for improvement, but I'm afraid the team is kinda stuck without source. They've done miracles without source though.
Hi guys, i ran across a very annoying problem today.
I failed to flash the latest version of cm10 on my i9000 and soft- ricked my device.
I thought flashing a stock rom is a good idea, but after flashing successfully i get an error, because the partitions are no longer rfs format,
they are ext4.
What should i do now, i dont have any roms on my device to flash them via cwm.
I was wondering if there is any way of changing the partitions back to rfs is possible via odin,
Or if i can flash a rom that supports ext4 via odin instead of cwm.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for not being specific
I did not mention the type of error.
It shows me: cannot mount partition;
This error appears several times coloured in red.
At first i ignored it but get into a bootloop where the galaxy s boot animation starts over and over and over....
The boot sound its played only the first time if that helps you with something.

In CWM, use usb mounts and storage to copy the ROM you initially used to convert your partition to ext 4, to get it back

Not possible and you could lose your internal SD card
hi guys
this is my first post on this kickass site and i hope that someone can help me with this rather strange error :victory:
as the subject of topic says , i get this error whenever i boot my friends sgs into recovery as normal booting goes on loop forever.
this is the error i get in the recovery of stock I9000XXJVU:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--Copying media files...
E:failed to mount /sdcard (file exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media:can't mount /sdcard
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions

what happened is this:
my friend had a sgs and i wanted to flash it with cyanogenmod 10 (android 4.1)
the stock firmware was 2.2 iirc.
i just rooted the stock and flashed the 4.1
it went ok but i saw the mounting error back then sometime that i rebooted the device with 4.1 on it but didn't get that error all the time and it would boot just fine.
then the error popuped more and more.
so i decided to flash stock 2.3.6 ,rooting it and finaly go back to 4.1.
after i flashed the device using I9000XXJVU it goes on loop.
recovery and downloading mode works.but the recovery give me that error i said above.
i guess a hardware issue but i don't know for sure
i'm lost here :silly:
help me plz
Thanks in advance

i did what you said and its still in loop and same error in recover.
why my internal sdcard isn't mountable?can it be hardware failure?
Same errors?

yep same error as before.
after flashing is done and it want to install the package,it get stock and give me that mounting error.
i just want to know if this problem is software or hardware
I also had this problem. Was on stock JVT with semaphore, partitions converted to ext4.
I decided to reboot my phone for no particular reason (was working reat) and when i powered it on kept boot looping without really getting past the samsung gt-i9000 white letters / black background screen.
CWM recovery said it was unable to mount any partition. External SD mounted fine, just nothing from the internel sd. No system, data, whatever. Got me thinking i may had my internal sd malfunctioning.
I just flashed it with odin and my stock branded operator rom (2.3.3) and done nothing more. No repartition. Working great. Was probably some ext4 error.
Before that i had been using cyanogen stable. Started giving FC like mad, so i flashed that stock JVT. On hindsight it may only had been the data partition that had run out of free space but i had no way of knowing when it happened and needed my phone running.
Reflashing got mine running again. Maybe try with Heimdall if odin's not working for you? Be sure to get a complete rom, with bootloaders and such. I'd suggest your operator's stock one. That way you can also send it back to samsung if it still doesn't work.

See problem 11 exact same problem described
thanks for the help guys
i tried everything that came to my mine and used this topic for my errors but still get errors
problem 11 and 12 are the ones i get flashing different roms
even tried a Rescue kit from here but no go...
why this is happening to me?
the failed to mount as i have come to understand is internal SD card failure you will have to give external SD card a try
