Got a woot deal on a 32GB Touchpad for $200 which I want to geek it out to one of these custom ICS roms. The Classicnerd ICS Butta HD rom sure looks solid and popular but most of the guides I found show how to get a Gingerbread rom on it and not an ICS one. I use Cyanogenmod for my mobile but they dont have a stable rom for the Touchpad, so this Butta one looks good and is updated often.
Can you do a custom ICS rom on a fresh Touchpad? Was going to use this guide:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ57i2d7NBY
But it seems out of date, plus I saw some posts about the ACMEInstaller2 now...sounds like I need that one?
I've been root/recovery/rom'n mobile phones since my G1 days but this is my first tablet and I want to make sure I get it right. Any guide/advise for this tablet noob and I would be very thankful for that!
Nice, a new ROM. can't wait to try it out.

Go easy on him, he is new to XDA. Just for future reference, try posting new threads general or Q & A if your not a developer or posting some new development.
it's going to be the same but you need to use acme2 instead of 1, and i recommend using the CM9 latest nightly (see the other touchpad threads) instead of whatever version of ICS that video shows.
You can use acme installer 1 to load CWM recovery and moboot without a rom. ( confirmed I have done this). Before you do make sure there is rom on a webos file of your choosing and flash it once you have CWM. You could download a rom into a designated file on webos later too but if you have one ready it would be faster. Butta, cm9, AOKP all good roms.

As much as I love CM9 and AOKP from my Captivate days, at this moment in time, I cannot recommend them over "regular" ICS Roms.
Performance from my most recent test is still behind ICS not to mention missing features like MHL.
I currently prefer this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365587
As soon as CM9/AOKP gets there, then I am of course moving to those as I expect them to be just as good as they were on my Captivate

I prefer the paranoid android rom. It's the best thing that I have ever run on my note.
if you like the stock Gingerbread launcher then stock ICS for the note is great for you.
ofcoarse you can put different launchers i had Apex on the UK ICS release and it was very awsome but.. not as smooth as how Apex runs on CM9
And if you use the SPen functionality which i really..as hard as i want i cant really see my self in using theres an app that functions very much the same as SMemo..
is just called memo just check the Themes and Apps section.
it is pen sensitive is amazing..as good as the SMemo so really..no more missing that extra 1% functionality
also another reason why cm9 is that much better is that...
4.0.4 as oppose to Samsungs 4.0.3
i cant recommend enough..
but make sure if you're coming to either one stock or custom i recommend
for stock UK ICS
and custom CM9
make sure to follow the instructions for installing CM9 ..as you need to revert to a rootable GB rom (2.3.5) and root from there and install CM9 from there..
so read read and..after that read more the install instructions
OP, I don't think you've given us a shred of info about what would make a good ROM for you.

I was on almost-stock GB for a long time and never really used S Memo.
For me, the S-Pen is a great tool for illustration, but to take quick notes I still much prefer to type everything instead.
As such, CM9 and any of its derivatives for me (currently Paranoid Android).
Have to agree, tried all kinds of roms gb and ics, stock to modded, but the best thing I have come across is paranoid android.

Paranoid Android will always top the chart for me
I love the smoothness in Tablet mode! While accessing Citrix from Tablet mode, everything seems to be in place and perfect zoom! Whilst on phone mode I struggle to read my applications..
+1 for Paranoid Android!
I'm currently running KingDroid. This has the new Touchwiz 5.0/SIII look, which in my opinion is much better looking than the old.
The KingDroid also got all of the S Memo/ S Planner apps.

I am rooting the phone for the first time so I want to know which is the best available ICS rom which has least bugs. I need basic things to work such as wifi and bluetooth. I want all the steps to complete the procedure. It will be really helpful if any one could give me some links. I could have searched but I have no idea which one is the best so please help me.

I have not yet started I need links to begin the process right from the scratch.
All ICS roms have bugs. Look in Dev thread for CM9 or AOKP.
Spend at least 4 hours reading how to prepare and install, 2 hours reading what to do when unexpected things happen during/after flash, and 1 hour being sorry wasting your and others time on such impossible question usually followed by biased opinions.
Don't flash ICS. wait for stable JB rom

In terms of which ROM is best, unfortunately there is no answer.
Each rom is different (obviously) so people prefer different roms that fit their different needs.
I'd personally recommend something like SlimICS, TiramiSLIM, or DarkyROM Black Edition.
Slim ICS is a cut down version, no extravagant features.
TiramiSLIM has an easy installation process (if already rooted) and has lots of customization options.
DarkyROM is one of my favourites, but I just upgraded to Jellybean.
You want to know all the steps to installation?
One of the best guides I've found is for the Team 3xtr3me ICS333 rom.
Link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25722239#post25722239
It goes through installation of a rooted Gingerbead (2.3) rom via odin, which is the part most ROM installation guides assume you have already done.
From there you should be able to follow almost any ROM's guide for installation.
Hope this helped.
Don't flash another thing than Cyanogenmod nightlies.
Maybe AOKP. But prefer cyanogenmod. Accelerometer still broken on AOKP. No point of it. (Please don't comment temple runners.)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
As kernel, flash latest devil kernel. Don't think another choice. Every kernel is nice. Semaphore is as nice as decil. But devil has more customization choices.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
When you're a bit into the flashing thing you coult try RemICS, which has best design for me and is very smoothe and fast as well.
CYANOGENMOD 9 !!! The best of all no bug no problem very fast and I use it for months with devil3.99 kernel
Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592131
Hmm... to lazy to find out how to root, what's the difference (if significant) between roms, what to do when that pesky bootloop happen,.... so just start yet another thread for the bragging hordes?
"...... rom is smooth, bugfree, snapping fast, will make you breakfast? , has looongest bat. life,... "
Advice you to spend your time more wisely and enjoy the vast amount of knowledge already posted here at your disposal.
I prefer a plain vanilla ice cream
sandwich with maple syrup, the rum is an acquired taste, but captain Morgan is great for starters.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
I use DarkKnight 5.5 with DevilKernel and I found it very stable and smooth. For me it is the best ICS ROM for SGS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510940&highlight=dark+knight
You can try AOKP. I've been using it since a month and I can say that it's quite smooth and well developed. Try it and u won't regret.
My personal favourite. Slim ICS
But look at this benchmark thread and decide for yourself.

Good stuff mate. After almost a year away, I am going back in to flash one of the old girls now.
This is the official "which is the best ROM for the Touchpad Thread"
In lieu of all the threads recently being created, asking the same question "which is the best, fastest, least trouble free" ROM for the device, this thread has been created.
Notice, all other threads asking the same question, will be deleted and re-directed here. This is in an effort to keep the number of new threads lower, and to enable better searches for people looking for an answer.
Thread Rules
1. No Flaming and no arguing. Everybody has a favorite.
2. No links to external Sites. The ROMs must be linked at XDA
3. No linking to Non-GPL
4. No Profanity (or acronyms used to cleverly disguise such words)
Keep it clean people.

Er...you may be in the wrong forum...
I have found the CM9 nightly to be the most stable for playing games. I've tried the CM10 and others but as soon as I launch a online game, the TP will generally freeze up.
I play a game called "Tanked" which is online and a great tank killing game against other players. Lots of fun...great graphics, and addicting.
If someone has a suggestion as to a more stable, yet fast rom for this type of gaming, please indicate which you use. I will try and load it up and give you a quick review of stability vs the cm9.
Thanks

Same here. My kids love playing games and I have problem with the T-pad crashing on CM10. I've tried every CM10 ROM available. Each has it's own unique advantanges, but hate seeing Tp constantly crash to mboot.
After rolling back to CM9 nightly, I am not longer having this problem. It's not as smooth as CM10, but kids are happy.
Thanks the Dev for trying to port JB. Hope they continue to get things fully straighten out.

I'm surprised there aren't more posts in this thread..BUT...

You may use RandomROM OR Schizoid OR AOKPCM10REMIX_DEC_0412.
These are all the most stable that I have tried
I am using CDMoncrieff 's CM10.1, AOSP version. It's good enough that I'll be using it as my daily driver. I don't use Bluetooth (as far as I know, it's the only thing not working), so that doesn't affect me.

Got it to work, although the preview is upside-down. However, that is already a known issue acknowledged by CDMoncrieff. I am loving it so far.

Battery life is incredibly good.
Hello, I just decided to put Android on my touchpad, but I don't know which ROM to go with first. I just want something with the best features available while being stable, I don't know if I should go with CM9 or CM10 since from what I see the CM10 ROM's seem to be more buggy? As-well as which Android version, since the latest is 4.2.2 but it still seems to be in its early stages of development.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the answer, I flashed it on my touchpad, however I noticed that flash is really buggy on CM10, it just gives me some horizontal lines, and when I full screen it theres only like a 10% chance of it working, since most of the time its just a black screen or it just flickers over and over and freezes, sometimes its even crashed my touchpad. Would it be best to go to a CM9 rom, or is there some work-around for this problem?
I'm thinking of getting a Touchpad for my girlfriend, it already has CM10 installed on it. She likes to play some of the Flash games on Facebook and other sites. Can she still do this using on CM10 etc?

It appears to be a Touchpad specific problem (graphics drivers maybe), since flash works fine on my Bionic running CM10.2. On the Touchpad running anything CM10 or newer flash player acts weird, like the graphics are messed up, its basically unusable.
Evervolv is a pretty good ROM, the nice part is it doesn't require repartitioning beyond what ACMEInstaller3 does. But this rom still has adobe flash issues.

Flash support past CM9 is hit and miss on the TP, I doubt your GF would mind using CM9 or notice the differences. You can try a variety of different Web Browsers to see what works best for flash games on Android. It might be best to test it out before committing to a purchase. Devices other than the HP TP work better for flash using newer versions of Android.
I use Boat browser and that can use the flash I have installed. Not sure about your game though.
