Hi All,
I need some newbie advise on flashing the hp touchpad. i got a 32gb version, still running native OS. i have not flashed it before, as of the battery drain issues.
I was looking at the instructions there are so many different ways, confused. im not sure which is the best / most up to date way to configure dual boot.
i want to dual boot webos and android.
i was think of the rom.

Anyone got a few tips / links as to what I need to install for first time and which ROM you recommend. I was hoping to have one which has working wifi, sound and fairly stable.
Yeah, that's a good ROM.
Most of the files you will need are at goo.im under devs/jcsullins. You'll need moboot, CWM 5, gapps, and a ROM of your choice.

I recommend this tutorial http://liliputing.com/2012/01/how-to-install-android-4-0-on-the-hp-touchpad-cyanogenmod-9-alpha.html

Hi guys,
So ive reached the point where its time to put a rom other than the stock rom that im currently running. Now ive looked on the forums here and can see that there are several variations floating around. Really id like opinions on what is considered a stable rom to run. I dont use my phone for anything fancy, occasionally play a game, listen to music and all the obvious stuff. Any suggestions/ opinions would be most welcome.
Many thanks
Jim

Cyanogenmod 7.Just flash it and use it.
Emanon ROM would be suitable for you; it's the closest one to stock ROM.
CyanogenMod is a completely different ROM than stock ROM; and maybe you'll have some difficulties in adapting to its features and bugs (if any).

if u like the looks and interface of stock rom use emanon rom
and if u want a completely new rom with extra features go with cm7 rom
Thanks guys, have used cm rom in the past on my x10 mini pro. So it would seem the cm7 would be the way to go! Many thanks for the input guys. I am assuming odin is the best way forward with flashing a new rom?

custom ROMs for the galmin are not flashable via Odin. Only stock ROMs can be flashed through Odin. Mininum requirement for CM7 is 2.3.4.. If you have GB 2.3.4 then you can directly flash clockworkmod recovery.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15626837&postcount=2
Choose ROMs from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1314
Please do follow special instructions from the Devs.. Happy Flashing!
A click on the Thanks button would be much appreciated..

I would recommend you read the various threads first and make your own judgement.

you have been here longer than i am, so i would think that you are supposed to read and use the search functions of this forum than just wait up for answers from other people that may not come at all.
if you are afraid to root, go no further. if you take the risk, then go all the way and test all the available roms and decide which one suits your taste. it's your phone, it's your risk.... do not blame anyone if something bad happens, because if somebody answers your question "which one would you recommend" and somebody does recommend a specific rom, and you BRICKED your phone in the process... you will curse whoever gave you that suggestion.
I found Rocket Rom v22 used with franco v6 kernel very fast and stable. I got my best benchmark scores using this setup.
Now on Midnote ICS and while very smooth it doesn't have the same benchmark scores. (Not that they mean much as it feels quicker in daily use).
To sync FB pics with contacts install FB app then go to settings/accounts and sync, add FB account. It will ask you what to sync eg all contacts etc

if u r brave enough ... try rocket rom ics beta v1.5.. but be very careful while flashing.. u need to be fully rooted. If you would like to stick to gingerbread go with chechrom v5
Thanks people!! if you guys got any opinions or tips on note please let me know thanks!
and anyone know how to show percentage in the battery icon?
check the thread with the imilka ROM AOSP which has the solution for battery percentage

tried all ics roms ,,midnote has been best so far smoothness everything working was easist to flash also and stayed rooted
I won't suggest you flash ics rom as the procedures are much more complicated than flashing a gingerbread rom.

Got a woot deal on a 32GB Touchpad for $200 which I want to geek it out to one of these custom ICS roms. The Classicnerd ICS Butta HD rom sure looks solid and popular but most of the guides I found show how to get a Gingerbread rom on it and not an ICS one. I use Cyanogenmod for my mobile but they dont have a stable rom for the Touchpad, so this Butta one looks good and is updated often.
Can you do a custom ICS rom on a fresh Touchpad? Was going to use this guide:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ57i2d7NBY
But it seems out of date, plus I saw some posts about the ACMEInstaller2 now...sounds like I need that one?
I've been root/recovery/rom'n mobile phones since my G1 days but this is my first tablet and I want to make sure I get it right. Any guide/advise for this tablet noob and I would be very thankful for that!
Nice, a new ROM. can't wait to try it out.

Go easy on him, he is new to XDA. Just for future reference, try posting new threads general or Q & A if your not a developer or posting some new development.
it's going to be the same but you need to use acme2 instead of 1, and i recommend using the CM9 latest nightly (see the other touchpad threads) instead of whatever version of ICS that video shows.
You can use acme installer 1 to load CWM recovery and moboot without a rom. ( confirmed I have done this). Before you do make sure there is rom on a webos file of your choosing and flash it once you have CWM. You could download a rom into a designated file on webos later too but if you have one ready it would be faster. Butta, cm9, AOKP all good roms.

Hi guys and girls!
Hope you are all doing well. Anyway, I rooted yesterday and am running a new kernel (speed mod k13 I believe) anyway. What I am after now, is as the title says, a light, fast rom with decent battery life. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or experiences and could suggest something. Would a CYANOGEN from work? When I had my galaxy s I was using 7 and found it really good. But are there others?
Cheers!
Oliver

cyanogen will indeed work as will paranoid android charack,s,rocket rom if its lite you want then look for a rom with aroma installer so you can install what you want
Cheers!, really liking the look of paranoid android, especially the hybrid roms! it has been a goood while since i flashed a rom, so need to figure out what i have to do again. lol, thanks, if you can provide any tips on moving to this rom from stock ics with speedmod kernel, it would be helpful! Thanks.

Yes, JB referred in the guide are all JB/CM10 based roms.
Check this thread, some one just flashed JB rom using above guide

As long as you are on safe kernel you don't have to worry about anything or to revert back to GB. Just keep flashing rom with full wipes. Its enough for you.....
So, i am trying to back up through CWM on hydracore, it gets soooo close to the end and then says there was an error backing up the data, any ideas on what this is or a remedy for it?
I dont really want to flash a rom without doing the backup... even though in the past, i have done (old phone) is it imperritive to make a backup?

What exactly you want to backup from old rom, apps? If so then use titanium backup. I never backup whole rom as it hardly takes 15-20 minutes to setup rom if you have backup of apps.

Yes, as with any AOKP/ CM9 based rom..
There are alternative apps that could be used.
Otherwise, there are some excellent choices when it comes to Touchwiz-based roms as well.
Some are available themed to the AOKP look, if you prefer.

I'm sure someone will be able to answer this super easily.
I'm new to rooting and ROMs, I just rooted my 4x hd yesterday and after being blown away at how easy it was, I'm now considering flashing a rom.
I've read around that you can get things that let you select the rom you want on boot. I was wondering if I could do this with the stock rom and cyanogenmod?
Do I have to partition the internal storage or something?
Also I'm pretty sure when you flash a new rom you loose apps and other data but can someone confirm this for me please?
And one final question. What's your favourite stable rom for the 4x hd? If I am able to switch between ROMs like that, I might add another I want to get close to vanilla if I can.
I am on version 20a stock rom android 4.2
