so im trying to use the all in one tool to do this. i cant seem to get the htc drivers installed, something wrong with my OS, are those drivers required to do this, cause it seems like vista can still see your phone couldnt it>? also does disk drive need to be selected or htc sync? i dont know what option on the phone to select for all this. thanks
also have you unlocked bootloader
The work instructions where done by knowcontrol they are very well written and easy to follow removed can get at wildchilds site
removed can get at wildchilds site
gotta fix root on it. For now, download SU from here\
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
put it on your external sd card. flash it in recovery.
so if i want to use this tool but put on wildchilds rom how do i go about that after im unlocked and rooted with this tool?
removed can get at wildchilds site
i had the same problem, your best bet is too relock bootloader run the att stock ruu unlock bootloader install wcx recovery download wcx rom and kernel and its easier to use the toolkit go into the folder then data and kernels and move wcx kernel into the stock one then run the toolkit flash the "stock aka wcx kernel" then flash the rom from the sd card

You cant relock it. Just take good care of your phone man and you shouldn't have to worry about it. Go into recovery and wipe the second 2 in the list and then either you can reflash cm6 or you can go download a stock rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744605
If you unlocked your bootloader, there is no way to relock it unless you have an S-OFF phone
What issues are you having with CM6? There is virtually no disadvantage against stock rom
I have an N1 that I unlocked and rooted and was running CM7 RC1 when I decided to try the stock Gingerbread. This switch went perfectly, but now I don't think I want to stay on the stock GB but I can't seem to get ROM Manager to boot into recovery to allow me to flash another ROM. Do I have to do something differently now? BTW, I do not have root on the 'new' GB.
Thanks.
Unless you flashed a pre-rooted version of Gingerbread, you will have lost root and your custom recovery...
If this is the case, you have two options:
1 - Flash a custom recovery through an unlocked bootloader.
2 - passimg back to an older version of Android and root again...

This is your problem. ROM Manager installs a custom recovery, but only when your phone is rooted. You need to re-root GB.
Can I ask them how people flash custom recoveries without having root? I see threads all over the place that say that you don't have to root your phone to run these custom ROM's.

You have to root, but you don't have to unlock your bootloader.
You have to do one of the things:
1) Root.
2) Unlock the bootloader.
Rooting allows you to bypass security mechanisms from within the OS, and flash the custom recovery from there.
Unlocking the bootloader turns off the security mechanisms, and you can flash whatever you want directly from bootloader.
Both achieve the same thing, but in different ways.
Root privileges in OS are lost upon official upgrades.
Unlocked bootloader is never lost.
Unlocked bootloader allows for an easy way to gain root in the first place, regardless of the ROM.
How does an unlocked bootloader allow me to flash whatever ROM I want? ROM Manager won't run without root? Am I missing something? I've read the wiki's and threads about rooting an N1 and they all just seem to stop at unlocking the bootloader, well, my bootloader is unlocked but I can't get it to boot into CWM so that I can select another ROM. Is there another way to do this?
ROM Manager is only one, and not the most successful nor most powerful, way to flash ROMs or recovery. ROM Manager was made for non-understanding people to make the process look and feel easier. The most powerful way is directly from bootloader - which needs to be unlocked to allow it.
If you read all the threads, you'll see that unlocking the bootloader is just a first step - you can look carefully at "installing custom ROM" guide in Wiki. Or, for example, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636795
Read the Wiki, look for recovery installation instructions using unlocked bootloader, execute. I suggest Amon_Ra's.
im useing ota 2.3.4 and ive tried everything to root the nexus one universal,z4,gingerbreak i have the bootloader unlocked but it will not root however gingerbreak did install su i thought my G2X was a trip this thing is giveing me more grey hair somew one have a solution
I had this problem and just managed to figure it out today (through the power of google). Superboot, oneclick and gingerbreak all don't work for 2.3.4 as of right now, so you have to use the PASSIMG method to flash an older version and root from there.
I found a good guide, but given that I've been a lurker for the past couple years as opposed to a regular poster, I can't link it. In lieu of a link, I suggest a search query such as "root 2.3.4 nd1razor"
Your bootloader is unlocked. No need for all that crap. Put the su zip on your sd card. Flash custom recovery via fastboot. Boot directly into the new recovery. And flash the su.zip from the recovery. You're rooted. The end.
you just need to flash custom recovery via fast boot or rom manager.then you can flash custom roms (which mostly have root along with tweaks) via recovery

I also unlocked the bootloader!
I put this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084726
But I still do not have root permissions ... Why?
You have them, but probably don't know how to use them. How do you check for them?
How did you put the ROM? Did you flash custom recovery?
Yes, i flash recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1.img
Now my rom is: MIUI-1.9.16
The strange thing is that I managed to install the rom and recovery without having root permissions
Not strange. You don't need root. You have unlocked bootloader......

How do for get root permissions ?
The ROM includes them. When you're inside the ROM, you have root.

basically your saying, due to getting your hboot update u now cannot get root?
you cant downgrade hboot...and without the XTC clip u cannot get s-off.
but by having the new hboot you should have access to your bootloader now, giving you the ability to flash CWM recovery. kanded knows this procedure better than me i believe as i already have s-off and original hboot with cwm.

unlocking your bootloader via HTC allows you to flash roms via adb (android-Sdk)
having s-off allows you to do all this without going through HTC like i did.
basically i used the XTC clip, which gave me s-off and unlocked my bootloader at the same time it installed cwm 4.
you have cwm5 and i use cwm 4 as my setup currently doesn't allow me to update it. why i dont know.
best way possible is to use you standard rom once you have rooted it.
in the post i left previous i listed a topic which kanded wrote on using data2sd script. See here for data2sd post> Data2SD
get root, follow that post to the letter! do not deviate from it, make sure you make a flash back up via cwm (backup and restore, makes a nandroid backup image of your current setup, which allows you to flash back anytime to what your using now)
and then copy your sd card to your computer.(image backup)
as this process will wipe everything stored.
as for custom Roms, thats your choice.....not allot around at the minute, i have 2 Chinese UK O2 Roms, both totally different, but both have memory issues, as for using the data2SD i still have to figure out why my handsets not allowing it.
so once this is working on a standard ROM, maybe it can be used on these other Roms i have.
personally stick with what you got and try kandeds data2sd method...see if that works for you.
i can be contacted via gtalk on your handset, type in [email protected]

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438804
u need adb and fast boot
i got cmw 5 using this and this was preety simple..
just run the commands in cmd prompt with ur device connecteded in usb debugging mode nd u will have cmw5
next inssert a memory card in fat32 format into ur phone and run the cmw5 recovery by holding the volume down with power button
once into cmw5 goto advance then select to partition ur mrmy card
u must create 3 partitions
1) fat32
2)ext3
3)swap
the size depends on your requirements
once dis is done
plug ur memory card into a pc and use MiniTool Partition to convert ur ext3 partition to ext2
(doing the above three partition directly on ur pc may not allow ur phone to read the card so i prefer doing this)
after dat
go to cwm recovery again, wipe data, cache and dakvik cache. Reboot.
Install busybox, and choose the version v1.17.1
now go to cwm recovery again.
flash htc-data2sd sdcard
reboot
and vooila u have increased ur internal memory space
Reboot
i have composed this using kanded posts.

Hello,
I have HBOOT-2.01.0001 RADIO-3822.01.08.14_M eMMC-boot and I'm running newest Cyanogenmod RC 7.2.0 RC1. Yesterday my phone was stock RUU and I went to HTCDEV.com and unlocked it. After that I flashed the recovery to Clockworkmod v.4.0.1.4 through ADB. Put the CM RC 7.2.0 RC1 .zip on the root of the SD card along with Gapps .zip file.
Then I rebooted into Clockworkmod recovery and installed the 2 .zip files and rebooted. It would not boot and was stuck on HTC logo screen. I found out that I had to separately flash the boot.img file from within the CM RC 7.2.0 RC1 .zip and then everything worked fine.
(Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I did do a backup from within the Clockworkmod before flashing the CM rom)
Ok, so I tested Cyanogenmod for a couple of hours and found out that it was a bit faster than the new stock Ice Cream Sandwich (latest update per 20 april 2012) and it had a lot of ekstra features, but the interface and layout is really low end in my opinion. I gave it a honest try and spent some time changing settings and layouts and even downloaded a couple of ADW themes. Nothing that was even near the new ICS.
Bottom line is that I really want to get back to the original stock RUU Ice Cream Sandwich and I'm unable to
Attempt 1:
I have tried to restore the backup that I made in Clockworkmod and it seems to install just fine. But when restarting it gets stuck on HTC logo Screen. So I thought, maybe this has something to do with the boot.img that has to be flashed manually. So I took out the SD card and put it in my PC using a adapter. Found the boot.img file from the backup inside the clockworkmod/Backup folder and flashed the boot.img file and I'm still stuck on HTC logo screen. It will not boot after recovering the backup no matter what I try.
Attempt 2:
After googling a lot I found the website Shipped ROMs and found my model which I believe to be VIVO (I have a HTC Incredible S from april 2011 in Norway (Europe)).
The only logical RUU i can find is: RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1_Radio_20 .2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_sign ed.exe
Since the other 2 RUU's listed are ASIA.
I downloaded the WWE RUU and ran it. I followed the instructions to the point and got the message Error 155 after about 30 seconds right after it is finished with sending.....
Now the phone will not boot again, stuck on HTC logo screen. And so I'm running out of ideas. In other words I'm stuck here
I reflashed the same Cyanogenmod rom and at least that works again
Anybody have any suggestions in how to solve this or any info at all to direct me into the right direction? This would be much appreciated
I'm thinking maybe anybody knows where I can find a stock ROM .zip file for this phone modell that I can flash the same way i do Cyanogenmod (as described above)?
Maybe even an older version like Froyo, but then I hope it is possible to update to latest stock RUU just using the built in "search for update" function in settings.
Yours sincerely,

You can only run and use a RUU successfully when you relock your bootloader. That is what the error 155 is telling out.
In the Development section there is a stock, rooted ICS ROM based on the WWE RUU as well as a couple of custom ICS ROMs based on the stock ICS. You can flash these in CWM like you did CM 7.2
Dude follow nonverbose downgrade technique .... I've gone through same problem...he will help u and he is the best

Thanx man, could you also provide me with a direct link? I´m unable to find this. I don´t get it. Whenever using the "Search All Forums" all this other stuff comes up. I must be searching wrong....
If you want to install stock RUU again, you need to relock the bootloader as some one already pointed out..
To relock the bootloader, enter your phone's bootloader, connect your phone to your computer --> enter fastboot in your bootloader --> fastboot menu should show fastboot usb once the usb is connected --> open command prompt/terminal on your computer --> type fastboot devices. if your phone is recognized, it should show the device serial number.
Then type fastboot oem lock...your phone's bootloader should be relocked...then install the RUU
Sometimes, you need to format the data and system partition for the RUU to work properly. You need to do this before relocking the bootloader through a custom recovery (i find this easy instead of using ADB). This is not mandatory. I ran into some problem once and formatting data and system partitions worked..But, as I said, it happened only once and it is not mandatory to do this every time you relock your bootloader.
Please correct me if I am wrong...

No, a RUU is a Windows PC App that you run on your PC and then follow the instructions to attach your phone via the USB cable when prompted.
It will install a stock Sense ROM to your IncS. The only version on HTCDEV.com is the final ICS 4.0.4 ROM with Sense 3.6.

The one in my signature is built from the 4.14.405.1 RUU and is a fully rooted version of this stock ROM.
You can flash it on an unlocked bootloader from recovery just like you would for other custom ROMs.
Since you have an unlocked bootloader, you would have to manually flash the boot.img file contained in the ROM's zip file just like other custom ROMs.
