You should flash GingerBread Stock Rom via Odin, if you dont have it already. You should connect phone with USB cable and put it to download mode (press Home button, Volume down and Power button all at the same time) Than flash ClockWorkMod via Odin again... than put the zip file of the Cyanogen ROM on the root of you SD Card... than reboot the phone in recovery mod (press Home + power button until the menu shows) than go to install zip via Sd card >>> choose zip from Sd card .... and choose the CM zip on the root of your SD card..... after it fully loads wipe data and cache and reboot...
ENJOY YOUR CYANOGEN ROM....

Hi I'm trying to install miui for my sister in law on her Galaxy S but I can't seem to install CWM.
I've downloaded rom manager from the market clicked on flash recovery (fist option) then from the list chose samsung galaxy s. The next I clicked on reboot to recovery but when it boots into it, it says at the top Android system recovery (3e)
What am I doing wrong???? :s
PS I don't have a memory card inside my phone trying to install via the internal sd storage. The also I don't have access to my pc so need to do it off my phone. Please any help appreciated thank you.

When you boot into recovery press the buttons a couple of times. Ie, 3button combo to boot, release all the buttons and press the 3buttons again. I have had the same problems on 3sgs's and this seemed to work on them.
No luck
Any one else have any ideas. Please any help is appreciated.

I have clockworkmod recovery installed and when i click on reboot to recovery or use the 3 button configuration it only boots into the android system recovery.
I can not for the life of me get the Cwm recovery to boot up.
Is there a kernel I can flash with rom manager to get cwm installed
Sent from my GT-I9100
It's definitely rooted? What rom is it currently on?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Darkys rom. Plus i have titanium backup installed and backed up my apps. Superuser is working perfectly.
I want to install miui the official rom.
Anyway I can without having to use a pc??
Sent from my GT-I9100
If it's on Darky's rom, it should have cwm already! Not sure if you can do it from your phone now mate.
Once you've got the cwm sorted (hopefully it's a gingerbread rom) you need to format system, data and cache, then flash Miui.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Ahhh.
Flash darky RE via Odin. But if you are running darky kernel you should have cwm. Uninstall cwm app and try again.

If i understand well, you can't use odin because you don't have PC,right? Well:make sure that your phone is rooted. Go to market and get that application : "sgs kernel flashar " the one by neldar.
Then download a kernel for your firmware, and make sure you download a tar file or obtain a zimage file. Flash it with the application mentioned, you don't need any cwm. After that you flash the new kernel you should have a cwm installed.
If i understand wrong I'm sorry.

I got it when i rooted my tab.
I think root access is required for cwm btw...
now i rooted by super1rootclick.
and now i can access recovery mode.
that's mean cwn is not require anymore ?
You can always access recovery mode.
The stock 3e recovery.
But you want custom recovery, ClockWorkMod recovery being the only one for tab.
Flashing cf-root kernel will give you cwm.
But staying on froyo is not so good, with some having protected boot loader.
Why not just find overcome rom in dev thread and flash it.
You won't regret.

ok i'll find it
now i want to test an AOKP ICS rom.
and i not sure if i flash it without cwm on my tab.

Thanks a lot for that link priyana! Now got a nice guide with pictures
The overcome guide works like a charm, used it on my GT-P1000. It's now running the AOKP ICS 4.0.4 build #36 nice and smooth.
After completing the full overcome guide you can simply flash the AOKP build with cwm.
Download this file:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/g-uW6vGt/CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v33-CW.html
Also download odin v1.7 (google it). Boot your tab in download mode (turn off tab, then hold power button and volume down button simultaneously)
open odin and select the above mentioned file as pda
connect your tab to your pc
start flashing
you will get a rooted tab with cwm installed
please thank me if you found this useful

I tried this as I too was having difficulty booting into Clockwork and now my tab won't boot on at all. Someone please help. I don't know where to go ?
Try this as per my post in the thread.
Post back if you have problem.
Btw, you can still get to download mode?

Basically you need to try flashing gb stock safe package from overcome using Odin.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi Priyana,
Do you recommend I do the following but with gb stock safe ?
1) download overcome 4.0 kernel tar file and keep it in your PC
2) download aokp build 38 and gapps-ics from the link in aokp post. Put both on external SD card.
3) read the guide and jump to the part that guides you to flash overcome kernel.
Make sure Odin can see your tab and everything looks exactly like in the picture.
4) flash the overcome kernel and the tab will reboot. There will be a female robotic voice. Stimpz0r recommend no need to wait for finish. Just force power off the tab.
5) power up to recovery by pressing volume up and power button.
I find it a bit tricky sometimes, maybe the way I hold the button. But you will get there.
6) from cwm recovery, choose to install update from external SD card and browse to aokp zip file and install. Some message about checking bml/mtd and you see the tab reboot.
7) you may get a boot loop, it may not boot into recovery, or it may go direct back to recovery. If it does that it is normal.
First time coming from bml to mtd will do that.
Just flash aokp one more time.
You will notice the cwm is not the overcome one anymore. It looks similar but it is not. You will have to browse to internal SD card instead, because this recovery somehow calls your external SD as internal SD.
8) so flash aokp again, and when completed, flash gapps-ics
9) when completed just reboot and sit back and wait till it is done!
I see you came across my old post.
Yes, that should work. But download stimpz0r AOKP build 40.
The post was back when 38 was latest.
If the AOKP failed to flash, you need to go for entire gb stock safe though.
Go ahead try as per this AOKP install post and let me know if you have difficulty.

Great , I am out of the endless boots I was having and now have Gingerbread installed. Bit behind the times though my tab is functional and bit more snappy then the old Froyo. If you have any ideas on how to install Jellybean or any other roms you recommend for GT-P1000 I would really interested. Thanks again champion you have saved me alot of heartache.
Go for AOKP!
you have the instruction laid out here, nothing stopping you.
And if you are bored you can try cm10.
From now on the steps are the same.
Boot to cwm, wipe data, cache, and dalvik, and flash the rom and the gapps.
Please note gapps for ics is different from gapps for jb.
Btw, this is the many times I see cf-root way fails while overcome method works.
Thanks to team overcome we have such a reliable method to get cwm recovery.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
I have the rom and gapps from this link http://www.androidauthority.com/gal...-4-1-1-jelly-bean-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-106995/ but I don't think I have clockwork installed as my recovery looks stock. I'm not too sure on where to go from here asthus where I kind of got stuck last time.
You have the 9 steps I wrote.
From step 3 to 5,
At the end of step 5 you will have cwm.
Which one you didn't get?
The guide? I was referring to Overcome guide.
Jump here for the kernel and the guide:
Here is the kernel (tar format for Odin, zip isn't the one you want I guess)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27801159&postcount=8
and guide here
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7k...EyNS00Yzg5LWE0MTktYmYyMjA1MThmYzQz/edit?pli=1
So, open the guide:
3) read the guide and jump to the part that guides you to flash overcome kernel.
Make sure Odin can see your tab and everything looks exactly like in the picture.
4) flash the overcome kernel and the tab will reboot. There will be a female robotic voice. Stimpz0r recommend no need to wait for finish. Just force power off the tab.
5) power up to recovery by pressing volume up and power button.

Thanks I will give that at a go now but reading through the guide I forgot to flash the modem file. Am I able to do this seperately?
Don't worry.
The modem was for non mtd.
Once you flash AOKP and the mtd conversion takes place, all partitions are wiped out.
On second flash the rom is installed and jpz modem is included.
It will be just a file in /radio/modem.bin in MTD rom.
If you need to replace the modem in the future, just unpack a modem package and use root explorer to copy and paste the new modem file to overwrite the one there and reboot.

Fantastic From Froyo To JB !
So let me get this right, If I want to change Rom in the future.
All I need to do now is boot up CWM Recovery then Flash Rom And Gapps and if anything goes wrong Flash GB Stock Safe through Odin in Download mode.
Can I ask which Rom you are using/prefer ?
This JellyBean Rom looks good but is not as responsive as GB also I'm having difficulty rotating in home screen.
Thankyou for all the information you have provided me.
You did see me mention AOKP many times, right? that is my favourite.
AOKP and CM9 are ICS.
CM10 and Paranoidandroid 1.99 are JB.
Btw,
don't forget to flash gapps.
Yes, most rom for ICS/JB here are MTD rom, so just do the wipes and flash from cwm.

My friend's galaxy ace seems to get bricked.
I can't access download mode. It stuck on the booting screen.
All I have is just a disabled android system recovery like pics below.
Whenever I wanted to flash another rom, it got error "Installation aborted" with status 7.
What should I do?
I have searched and read a lot before I create this post. I am sorry if there is any part I missed to search.
Please help me.
Sorry for my English.

Its not hard bricked. You should be able to access the download mode. Please do some more research on how to access the download mode.
Don't be a noob. Be a newbie..!!
Details here.
Its not hard bricked.
its just soft bricked.
if you can access the recovery mode and you have any zip file of any Custom ROM,then you can flash the ROM using recovery.
Go to recovery,
select install zip from SD card and then navigate to the
custom ROM zip file and select yes when asked to flash and then you will be good to go.
be sure to watch tutorials on how to flash zip files using recovery.
Otherwise if you can access the download mode by pressing volume down+home button+power button then you can flash Stock ROM through Odin multidownloader and get your ace back to work.
Hi all,
I want to install CWM on my rooted SGS however there appears to be on CF Kernel that matches my JVN Kernel so using the CF method is not an option from what I have read.
So I installed ROM Manager and tried to install it that way but I now get signature verification errors when I go into Recovery.
Next I downloaded the recovery image from the CWM website but I cannot seem to find any information on installing it onto a SGS.
If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be appreciated.
TIA
Greg
Edit: Firmware is 2.3.3
Why dont you just flash JVU then Root it
Comes with CWM ....
As I am guessing you want CWM to flash a rom yes?
If so most Roms require ...from my knowledge a clean install of JVU with ODIN before flashing a New Rom

Download this "update.zip". Place it in your SD card. Power off and boot into recovery with the 3 button combination (press power, volume up and home button till you see the boot logo) and select "apply sdcard: update.zip". DO NOT DELETE THIS FROM SD. You should have CWM installed now. Let me know if you have any problem.
You need to root your phone first with update.zip for i9000, download the latest CWM.zip, put it in the storage. Then go to recovery and install the CWM.zip Goodluck flashing!

Can you use any version of JVU? eg: Europe, Asia, Australia. Or, should you only use one for your region, in my case Australia.
I have an Australian verion of JW6 (2.3.6), would that be acceptable?

Thanks for the UPDATE.ZIP, I note it is just a renamed CWM. I did not know you could just rename them and then install them. Thanks.
So, my plan at this stage is to update to 2.3.6 (JW6) and then install CWM via UPDATE.ZIP. Should this work?
TIA
Greg
Yeah you can upgrade first. Flash a firmware or upgrade OTA. You should root your phone first before flashing a custom recovery such as CWM.

Hi All,
I've tried to find the answer but cannot see one specific to what I am experiencing.
I followed the guide from wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
Semaphore's ClockworkMod Recovery was not working so I used the file from Replicant's recovery.img as per instructions at bottom of the page.
I followed the instructions. I rooted the phone, but I'm stuck. I can get into the recovery mode but I cannot mount the phone back to the PC so I can put the CM zip file onto the sdcard.
As soon as I turn on the phone, it goes into the CM Recovery menu.
Anyone know how to get the phone to mount to the PC and how I can get a CM image to the phone to install?
Thanks, please help. Need to get this phone working as I want to give it to my daughter to use in Italy.

Thanks, but I figured it out late last night. In recovery mode, there is an option to turn on USB mode. With USB on, the PC will see the phone. I downloaded the CM image (zip) to install. Put this into the root folder. Also downloaded the correct Google App as described in the link and put this into the root of the phone.
Turn off the USB. Leave phone plugged into the pc. With recovery mode, select install zip and select the CM zip file you put onto the root. This will install the CM. It will do this twice to convert the phone file system.
Phone will boot up and your in with CM. Now turn off and boot phone into recovery mode again using 3 button method. Select the Google apps zip file to install. This will install the Google Play and other software. Reboot and setup the phone!
Got the Galaxy S i9000 working again!
