Before I flashed to Eclipse 2.2, I could dial out and Gvoice would ask me to use my GVoice number to do the call. But since the upgrade it always uses the default dialer and uses my Cell phone number (instead of my Gvoice number) for all calls.
Tried changing numerous settings.
The closest thread I found was on a different site
forums.miui.us/showthread.php?2271-Google-voice&p=19790&viewfull=1#post19790
which said to turn third-party OFF, but I don't see that in Eclilpse 2.2.
Any ideas?
I am running Eclipse 2.2 with .902 and don't have that issue. I just went into Google Voice and set it to use it for all calls. Don't believe the Bionic has the "Third-Party on/off" for a call setting. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
And when you make calls, the other person sees your Gvoice #?
Because the Gvoice app allows me to change the setting, but whenever I make a call it doesn't use Gvoice, just the built in dialer and using my cell #.
Maybe it's a conflict with another app installed?
[update] It did end up being an app. Only problem is I'm not sure which one, I uninstalled a dozen or so, mostly games and news readers.

Has anybody tried getting SMS on your nook? I tried getting Google Voice to work but can't remember specifically but I ran into some roadblocks getting it to work. It was looking for local phone services or something. Has anybody got at SMS to work on the nook. I think it would be nice to send and receive text messages.
this would be awesome
I got Google voice am to work but I'm not sure how.
Magically transmitted across the interwebs by my kickass NookColor!
Google voice works great on NC for SMS
Thanks, I have to retry this. It was late when I was installing, could have missed something.
Make sure you have a Google voice number not just the account. I had to pick a gv number in order for texts to work.
Works great here too.

Google voice working here. Yes, make sure you have chosen to get a gv. Number and not just using your cell phone number with gv
Google voice downloaded from the market works on my daughter's nook. She can send and receive texts. Is there a way to get the contacts to show up? When she tries to compose, it seems the only option is to manually type in the number. I can't find a way to access an address book from within google voice. Am I missing something?
Thanks!
How do you get a number for. The nook.
I have gv on my phone already but how do I assign a number to my nook.

Just use the same credentials. You should receive messages on both devices. I have my iPhone 4 and nook set up for that. Unless you want to deal with another number there is no reason to create a new one.

Has anyone tried getting WhatsApp to work? It needs to send a confirmation sms to your specified number, I'm trying to find a way to bypass that portion. Google Voice works great in the mean time, but Whatsapp is great for sending multimedia.
I am sensing a little confusion here...
Remember folks, true SMS messaging requires cellular service, as it uses the cellular radio to send packets of information to the cell towers and through the service providers.
The only way to go about text messaging without a cellular radio on a device is to use a VOIP service (Voice Over IP) that also allows text-messaging. I'm actually not familiar with Skype at all, so I'm not sure if they also use phone-numbers, but with Google Voice, you have to have a phone number, which is one that is provided to you (you get to choice of available numbers).
The only other option for messaging over text, other than using a VOIP service that offers a texting feature, is to use an instant-messaging service (i.e. AIM).
Agreed. I completely understand the sms bit, which is why google voice works. But Whatsapp is also data based, which is why its so great. However it still requires an activation step but sending an sms to your number which obviously cant be done. However I'm curious of anyone knows of a way to bypass the activation portion altogether?

cant you tell it to send a sms to your google voice number?
I can't seem to get this to work. I DLed the google voice app from the market, it walks me through set up, I log in with the same gmail account that my gvoice # is assigned to, but then it only shows my mobile number, not my gvoice #. I select add a # and then the screen just stays put....nothing happens. I have to press n to go back to my home launcher.
Any hints?
Has anyone got a contract list to work with google voice?

what do you guys mean by this? I can't get mine to work. Like the other guy said, i downloaded from market, selected my mobile phone number (when I try to add a phone number it doesn't work). I can send text messages that send from my GV number but I can't receive any messages. I can't receive any messages on my mobile phone either, for that matter.
Any ideas?
I don't have Google Voice installed on my mobile phone, but that shouldn't matter, right?
Thanks!
GTalkSMS / TalkMyPhone
I've been using a neat app called 'GTalkSMS' (available on Market) that allows me to use Google Talk to send and receive SMS from my phone number. GTalkSMS works great when I'm at desktop and is also quite serviceable from the Nook.
You may have to first set up a separate Jabber chat account for the phone (if you're using Google Talk as the chat program). After that step, I've used it for:
- sending & receiving SMSes (after forgetting my phone at home/other side of the house (lol));
- looking up contact info on the phone (includes email & physical addresses as well as phone numbers);
- locating my phone with GPS coordinates and by setting it to ring;
- writing on my phone/sending links or clipboard content...etc.
I don't have Google Voice locally, so I'm not sure how it compares -- let me know!
TextPlus seems to work. (;

I've used GTalkSMS and Google Voice, and I prefer Google Voice, only because I don't have to set up a Jabber chat account to make it work, and it allows me to use the same number for SMS on all my devices. But if you don't have a Google Voice number, GTalkSMS is the way to go!
I'm using google voice for voicemail, but noticed that my buddy that also has a captivate can use his for texting. He's running stock 2.1, and I'm running di11i's v5.6 Stripped (an i9000 ROM). Where his has a compose button to text with, mine has a refresh. Any ideas why? Yes, I'm in the United States and have full Google Voice access.
Have you tried updating it in the market? I'm running a jpy rom and my compose button is to the left of the refresh.
Just uninstalled and reinstalled to make sure, I'm at the newest.

you might have selected your messaging app as your default after installing voice. Normally after you've installed google voice, your first txt message you try to send out via your contacts list. A pop up will appear asking you to choose an app to complete the action. it asks you to choose google voice or messaging, and an option to set whatever app is going to be the default. To get back that option you need to reset the defaults in your messaging app and not the google voice app.
The settings can be found under.
Settings -> applications -> manage applications -> messaging
pick clear defaults then try to send a txt message from your contacts list and you should see the pop up asking which app you want to use to send your txt.
using gv for texting works great, just make sure whoever you are texting has your gv number attatched to your contact because it sends the text from your gv number.
When I started using gv I sent all my most frequent texters my gv number and told them to use that number for me.
This allowed me to drop my text from unlimited to the 200 pack and saved me 10$ a month.

i hope you realize the difference between:
Google voice (for converting messages) and Voice Search by Google (for searching and inputting text into messages by voice like your buddy)
2 different things. and also not to be confused with android voice dialer. which works better as a dialer than google voice search (Which it is supposed to do also but doesnt work properly)
heres the offical youtube vid for what you want.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about Google Voice, the American app & service that us Canadian's don't get to use.
Trusselo, it let's you forward your phone to your GV account and use the Google Vmail service. It opens up a world of options compared to a carrier's vmail services. I have a GV account from when I was working down south this past summer, but you can't add a Canadian number to your account. So, until Google opens up that restriction I can't use my GV account anymore.
GV also let's you, if you choose, have 1 number which rings at any destination(s) you choose. Such as cell, house, work etc and then end up back in your GV vmail. I wish Google would open up the service to Canadians, especially since it was started by Canadians at Grand Central (Calgary company), then bought out by Google and shut down.

I read it as he wants to TEXT from his GOOGLE VOICE account, with the GV app. "that my buddy that also has a captivate can use his for texting". This is a feature of the GV app, if you select it in your GV account.
Ok that is quite possible then, either way, i dont have google voice.
I text by talking.
I use Voice Search by google to do what he wants and cant find.
many people have confused them before.

Voice search can't do what I want at all. I want to be able to text from my Google Voice number instead of my AT&T number. It's mostly for curiosities sake anyway.

I just tried that, and there were no defaults set for the messaging app.
Even on my google Voice web app, there is only a call button. Not a Text button.
I have both a refresh button and a compose button.
Dunno why you don't have both buttons.

The google voice app for the ipod touch natively detects that the device is not a phone and so you can't directly make call with it. Instead you can dial a number and the app will then initiate a call to the phone number that you have linked to the account and then call the number that you dialed in google voice. I need to make my nook color do the same thing. It doesn't work that way though. Instead it gives you an error and it force closes. I am using phiremod 5.3. Any help is appreciated
I also use Google Voice to do texting - wish I could get GV to work on the nook as well.
can you text using GV on the nook color?
You can text with it, yes.
-m
I do text with it using Google voice. I use my google voice number as my business number. I text people all day using my nook. It works pretty well (I actually wish that I could use handcent to text while still using my GV number, but that is another issue entirely). Occasionally though, I would like to call some of the people that I am texting. So I either have to call them with my normal cell phone and just type in their number, but this way they get my cell number on their Caller ID and so they don't know that I am calling them, or I have to do the whole process of dialing my GV number and going through the prompts to enter in the number I want to call.
All I want to do is click on a number in Google Voice and have it call my cell phone and connect through google voice automatically. Right now my only option is to use the web-based interface to do this. Even though this is exactly what the ipod touch google voice app does. (I totally know that the ipod touch OS and android are obviously way different things, I am just saying). I would think that there would be a way to work around this. If not, google should make it so that there is the option of having GV call my cell number to initiate the call.
Being relativley new to the NC . How would one use this for a call. Is there a way to get voice into the unit? I am interseted if it can work but everything i have read so far does not show voice capability.
Any feed back would be appreciated.

if you ever use google voice a lot you will understand the question. no you can't talk through the nook using google voice. to do that requires a "full" voip like Skype. he wants to use the nook as a fancy dialer.
As for me i've just been using the web interface which is slow and buggy

Thank you for the clarification
if you just wanted to text and google voice is not working for you - try textfree
According to the link below, the use of Google Voice (particularly with problems making outgoing calls) on the Note 5 may have been affected by the update to Android 5.1 in recent months:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/voice/7v4o62rCRfI;context-place=topicsearchin/voice/5.1.1$20update
After doing some reading it looks like the problem could be specific to the DOK2 baseband version and for T-mobile users (I'm on T-mobile and took the latest OTA update and my baseband is COKC). I'm just wondering if any of you are using Google Voice regularly, particularly to make outgoing calls with your with you GV number, and having any problems? I'm looking to port my number over to GV and want to make sure this isn't an issue first...
Hi, I have found only a slight work around, I've been having issues with GV on note 4 running DOK2. I get the "call not sent" error. The easier workaround I've found is to have your contacts text your Google voice number, make sure you're not using hangouts and have your Google voice text messages routed to your native messaging app. When you receive a text you will see a foreign number at the top. +123456789 save that number as the contact who texted you default number, then anytime you call that person it will ring using your Google voice number, as long as you use the + number
this device's Skinned OS has issues with Google Voice.....
it states "call not sent" when trying to connect using Google Voice app, and routes call through normal number
must use Hangouts for GV calling no integration with phone app,
gorgeous phone, that kills it
hopefully we can get CyanogenMod 13/14 for this thing.. :/
Yeah the lack of google voice support is a real pain with this device. As a dedicated voice user I've spent a lot of time searching and hacking around with it trying to get the best functionality I could. Here's the best solutions I've come up with
Voicemail
I have managed to get conditional call forwarding to work to push my calls to my google voicemail using mmi codes, the settings in the dialer app were useless for this. The following mmi code is what did it for me, it seemed that changing the ring delay was important too which is the last number in the code.
Open the dialer and type in the following code replacing the xyz with your google voice number. The phone should tell you it's running an mmi code, that it was successful and that the ring time was changed as well.
**004*+1xxxyyyzzzz*11*25# (replace the xyz with your google voice number)
Making Calls
So far there is no true solution for this but this is the best workaround I've come up with so far. Other than using the hangouts dialer app which uses data for calls (not ideal unless you're on wifi)
1. Go into settings > accessibility and turn on the toggle for power button ends call
2. Make sure google voice is set to ask on every call. google voice settings > Making calls > Ask every time I make a call
3. make a call as normal from the dialer but as soon as the call starts hit the power button to end the call
4. the gv menu will still be up asking you whether you want to use google voice or your carrier number
5. select google voice and the dialer will complete the call with your gv number
It's not the most convenient solution but it works until (hopefully) something better comes along
hey guys, not sure if this is helpful but I flashed the stock modded GV apk (you can find it here on XDA, won't let me post links). After that, using the GV interface if you go thru history and click on the phone # through there, it will work as intended and make calls using the GV #. I guess you'll just have to use the GV app as your contacts and dial thru there.
